SCV's approach is so interesting to me. It looks like Paul doesn't really govern technique, like at all, he just lets everyone do what's comfortable for them. I think it's cool to see a line that just cares about the music, not all this superficial appearance crap.
yeah I saw that on their website during audition season, I thought that must be so stressful not knowing exactly what to prepare LOL (especially going in auditioning for the best drumline in the world)
John Adams that’s true. It should definitely be enforced by lower level corps, but these guys are the best in the world, I think they’ve come into their own enough as players to know what they’re doing. I do agree that it is important for those wanting to get to the top
I think Paul prioritizes quality of sound above technique. Obviously their techniques have to be uniform to a degree, but that is lower on the totem pole
THANK YOU!!! everyone has different hands- different length fingers... this is one of the best sounding snare lines I've heard since mid-late 2000's Phantom
SCV does the job that a line complimenting the band should do. Fact is nobody is close to judge your hands at Dayton. The sound you’re producing is what needs to be GODLY. SCV knows that and they’ve cracked the code on producing a true uniform SOUND. Do their hands look the best? Never. Is their uniform beautiful and their carriers nice to look at? Not in the slightest. But as a line, hands down, they produce THE BEST sound of every drumline every year in DCI. Coats definitely chases their tail with the amount of swagger they pull off. And nobody blasts notes like Boston. But SCV is the only line to consistently do the drumlines job THE BEST.
DolphinsWIthIgloos not just her though, any time there’s a girl in a World Class drum line, the comments are full of comments about that girl. just annoying and off putting for girls who just want to drum like everyone else
DolphinsWIthIgloos I genuinely don’t mean this in a rude way but my comment said it turns girls off from getting involved. so the people who haven’t gotten the passion for it yet don’t want to do it because they see that their presence would be accompanied by people catcalling them and that gets annoying.
Any comment about her in this thread is at best asking for her name, but mostly cat calling and demeaning language. Maybe she would enjoy internet comments if some of them were about her relevant passion, being an amazing snare drummer, and not just being a girl.
man... that cymbal section is pure ninja! Those dudes walk in lock-step everywhere w/ each other -- it's impressive to see how they carry themselves -- all business!! (I was at Rose Bowl & Riverside CC shows... I didn't see any of them smile once!)
Man this quality is awesome. You can hear one, like just one snare, is doing something different. I can't even tell what it is at 2:06 ... Like it almost sounds like a super soft buzzroll at the edge or something. It's obviously not that, but that's what it sounds like.
I like how whenever SCV reuses something, it's a cool throwback. But when BD does it, it's lazy. Granted, BD does it WAAAAYYY more but people need to stop viewing DCI from such a hypocritical lens. Understand that Vanguard isn't perfect. Neither is BD. Like at all.
Agreed. I loved when Rennick used motifs from 06 and 07 in his writing for this group. Plus, when you hear them play, you can't help but know that it's that signature Rennick writing. Timeless.
Their show for the 2018 season was entitled "Babylon". The bar codes spell out Babylon when scanned. I'm not joking. But why bar codes, I don't know why.
If you ask me their hands look disgusting. Before anyone gets butthurt i didn't say they weren't piss clean, i gotta give em credit there. *BUT* the only uniformity are their uniforms and their dynamics. An interesting way of teaching 'technique' without teaching technique.
Pretentious bullshit. Can't see their techniques from the stadium stands. You're right, they're clean. That's all that matters, as long as they're not bouncing up and down like HBCU drumlines.
Nick Edwards thanks for sexualizing a woman for literally no reason at all!! Love men like you who feel the need to reduce a woman to their bodies and sexual appeal :)))
@@user-dk7qf5if6d while I do agree "sexy" isn't an appropriate word to use towards her he was clearly talking about her ability to play. I think you're overreacting

I agree, it makes there teqnique look off and they look kinda stupid in my opinion, I also nicknamed them the square root vanguard because the v looks like a square root symbol, still some pretty bad uniforms

Ethan S-D Even when you audition, there's no packet. They ask you for the excersizes that you personally use. 👍

wow...this is by far some of my favorite book I've ever heard. Very musical and well performed.
David Fisk I much like last years more
6:07 I can't even tell what is happening all I know is they make a V at the end
0:14 still cant believe how clean this feature is.
Love that they still use traditional SCV visuals, even after all the changes. Jonez!

Putting crowns hornline with this would be amazing
Didnt scv get the 2018 brass caption?
@@mrpiklez3703 yup we did
I’m pretty sure they won brass and percussion
their hornline this season was crazy good tho

I think 2012 finally has been dethroned as my favorite line! Scv🤘
Magucci13 you liked 2012 better than 13/14/15/17? I agree with 16 and might even consider debatable 17.
there it is at 4:10
Those drum 4’s are perfectly in tune with eachother
when the cymbals come back late from their sectional

skaynekurtis I always slept on cymbals but these guys are BAD ASSSSS but why aren’t the cymbals in this vid if they drumline basically
2:10 star of indiana vibes
I take back my comment about SCV pulling their punches. The gloves are off and they're Throwing Down.

I thought I heard that too. Somebody's sounds like they're buzzing or coming in too early while everybody else is doing singles
Can SCV win back to back championships? We shall see.
I know that they’ll more than likely win the Sanford again at least.
Yep. Just made 0:15 to 0:27 my new ringtone.
lol why
everyone not in drum corps probably gets really confused
EE
How did u make it your ringtone?
Best I've seen them in 20 years
getting a bit of 2001 Crown vibes on this one! Was such a fun Lot to be at in person!
center snare here is my teacher now!!! we’re so happy
At the very end, did the Bass Drums do the same visual as the 87 Basses did at the end of the opener?
They remind me of 08' Phantom..19.7 - 19.85 they should land on come finals..we'll see
Speaking of Phantom, I guess they’re doing what BD did last year but with tenors.
Jon Williams yup, for the second movement I believe. They had it at the beginning of the season so it should still be in, unless it got cut recently.
Thats because Paul Rennick was with them at the time. And here he is 10 years later. Not much about his book has changed tbh. Not that that's bad.
actually not the whole battery, but the snareline and 1 pit member join the tenorline, basses stay
Jon Williams I don't think their ever gonna give out a perfect 20 in a music subcaption again
Pro Tip: *watch in x2 speed.*
Are some of the snare drums tilted slightly?
Yes
1:15 some of the cleanest unisons ever
I love the girl's facial expression at 4:25. She always does that during that measure.
people just do things without noticing i mean it probably helps her you never know
That’s creepy af bro
right
Guy beside her does it to. You just creepin bro
the second snare from the left looks like rob lowe, also really cool video
Best in the world I can’t deny but only for this season
those snare gocks are so loud, it hurt while i was listening on my headphones
bryce gardners face the whole time while he looks
Is it just me or do i get a 2014 snare feature feel from this years snare feature??

Why does bryce look like he just had a breakdown
Mercy...
Why they have barcodes on their pants?
Their show for the 2018 season was entitled "Babylon". The bar codes spell out Babylon when scanned. I'm not joking. But why bar codes, I don't know why.
Cause there show is around the idea of a society that treats human beings like robots
What are those harnesses jesus
Toaster Burns dynasty harnesses , we have brand dynasty’s and I kinda miss the Yamaha. Harness’s
Centrist Drummer yea I have but the padding wasint very good and the tubular harness dig into my shoulders

YOOOO gotta paint those little black lines poking out of the uniforms.... (the harnesses I guess?) Paint em white- would look so dope!
It seems the camera man likes close ups on Bryce and that cute Mexican girl on snare
Muffin Smith who doesnt love closeups on Bryce tho?
Yeah who wouldn’t want a closeup of her? 👀 lol you notice he cut away when he realized he was on her for too long
Dude careful what you say.
I'm pretty sure she's not Mexican...
