This is my second favorite opening pit feature after 2016 (Force of Nature). I think the timbres they used in that feature fit so well with the theme, but that's just IMO. They have a GREAT show this year, and I hope they take it all!
It's going to be SCV vs. Cadets this year for drums. Cadets '18 bassline is probably the best in DCI history and the battery book is very difficult overall. SCV is perfect as usual.
TalkShowHost I don't know man. The Cadets are still being outscored by Crown, Bloo, Boston, and BD. I love their book, but they have a ways to go if they're gonna come even close to SCV.
That is the most ILL TIMED "WHAT" I have heard. Totally, unesscesary especially with the clessy silence given by the remainder of the audience. I am sure everyone else knew that for that time in the season SCV was demonstrating a superior level of musicianship!
I'd say he started very close to Brandon Olander's age of intro into BD. He's on the cover of DCI products, very rightfully. OHHHHHHH, BTWaaaaaaaaaaaaay... He started out marching TROOPERS, .... and second BTW, sooo did Fred Sanford start instructing with the Troopers.
Excellent everything in this video. Any change you can post the video focusing directly on the drumline the whole time? I wanna transcribe the rest of the book. One of my favorite Rennick books for sure.
Jason Givens Unfortunately I don’t have a static shot of just the battery...I was running two cameras at once so I was panning around a lot to try and get a wide variety of shots that I could edit together.
@@arfshesaid4325 "Bulbous skull"... that's what your drum corps history has taught you... Glen Crosby has a bulbous skull. Okay then... I love Glen Crosby too! Under-appreciated in DCI history. Always in the background in Sanford, Casella & many other lines. Crosby would be cool to hang with and learn from.
The fact that you take away the brass and still sounds like a fricking lit indoor show is pretty insane
This opening pit feature is... simply mindblowing.
DatGuyWithNoName always is, my favorite part
DatGuyWithNoName JIMMY HALPERT, is that you? Hehe
The opening pit feature is...simply sexy

Glenn Medina I love both so much, but I think being exposed to this one all summer made me fall in love with it even more😂
Pit. Is. On. FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fr
These tenors aren’t even using the system blue drums and hit less rim than the blue devils 😂😂 so clean
Yeah, but their tuning is shitty
Justify that?
Ryan Perez hahahahaha they know how to do it
Centrist Drummer at pasic last year Scott Johnson said “didn’t we take the rims off of the heads?” It’s not like the joke isn’t without truth 😂
@@chrisnguyen1186 and who do you think has better tuning? I think they sound divine.
That amount of detail vanguard puts into every show is underrated
Pedro Armendariz - No way, they definitely get the recognition and scoring for it. Would really be something if they had a 3peat percussion victory
i believe they've already done that, in '73, '74, and '75- but this could definitely be their second time!
this year aint it lmao
this year aint it lmao
@@Bleseddd1 Definitely was, it's their fourth year.
I have never been a percussion enthusiast but this is undeniable.. unparalleled musicallity.....
The bass pickup at 8:02 has my heart
Those snares are so clean.
8:23 xylo player is like "fuck this shit I'm out"
How does the front ensemble keep time so well, at the beginning omg.
One of the most beautiful openers to date. 10/10
6:02 This by far is my favorite percussion section of the show
john mapes coming in saying "this is the best thing ever" got me dead lmao
I played the ballad on marimba in my HS marching band’s front ensemble. Stuffs reaaally hard.
Weird question, but what damn marimba are these guys using? I’ve always just loved the marimbas of scv
Bergerault marimbas
Bergerault, who ever that is! Never heard of them, but I agree, i love them too!
Bergerault, which partners with Dynasty (battery uses Dynasty drums), with rosewood bars!
Bergerault: bergerault.com/products/field-percussions/performance-series-marimbas
I have a secret (they play really cleanly)
9:44 what???
Lonple 😂
no one:
random guy: what?!
John Mapes getting in the way lol
Dontavious Mason I think that's Glen Crosby.
At 6:33 is where he’s talking about lol. 😅
urmom5675 Of course, lol. Must have turned away from video at the point.
Hands down, biggest wind chimes in the activity
Absolutely insane
This book is next level.

Needs more Timpani

It’s more like Boston vs SCV
Edmand Hughley what YOU said. Although I will say, Crown drums are on Boston's heels. And that's a first!
It’s a super exciting year for drums can’t wait till finals
Yes, it's shaping up to be a fantastic year for percussion in DCI. I will be in the lots all night for the Atlanta show and I'm stoked.
6:00 pit
Literally in the open class I was in everyone in pit was trying to learn that
That is the most ILL TIMED "WHAT" I have heard. Totally, unesscesary especially with the clessy silence given by the remainder of the audience. I am sure everyone else knew that for that time in the season SCV was demonstrating a superior level of musicianship!
It sounded fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
9:45 lol
Oh my god the pit.
Drop the bass 9:44
That John Mapes cameo thou
ARBIES, WE HAVE THE MEATS!!! 9:44
3:50 u wot m8
Love it 👍
love the ouroboros drums
Is anyone else singing the brass parts?
Even as a percussionist, yes.
Constantly. My wife is ready to kick me out of the house cuz I am constantly whistling the My Body is a Cage.
Does anyone know the mallets SCV uses they sound absolutely amazing
innovative percussion! Marimbas are mostly on sandi's mallets here
@@isabellpercussion Thanks!
9:45 😂👏🏽
The drum major haha
Dat Snare Feature..
How old is the center snare ?
Riser 19

Where’s the learn the music video for marimba?

np. I'll find other videos to get it all. That drum break and the ending a sweet.
Jason Givens Hey! When you're done transcribing could you send me the tenor part? That would be amazing!
@0:54 omg is that the Ezekiel Lanser of the Front2Back ?!!
Is that Glen Crosby on the right of the wide shot?
certainly appears to be his rather bulbous skull
When?

you never count the Vanguard out!
Are the only cord to be in the final 12 each and every year!
Conflux Since that activities creation
Do they not have a drum set ?? Wait yes they do 🤦🏾♂️ tell me I’m not wrong if not holy shit yo their pit is killer
Snare Boy101 No drumset. Only a few corps actually have drumsets and some will have hybrid ish set ups in rack
A wild John mape appeared 😂
What is the opening song. It sounds like Seal.
Jerred Clardy Peter Gabriel - My Body is a Cage
...which is a cover of the Arcade Fire.
Why are they the only drumline that has not changed the wraps on their drums. Why use the wrapping from last year?
Fast cars Fast Women cause the designs on their drums aren’t wraps, they get new drums with a new design each year, which I guess takes longer
Jonathan Chu thanks. That makes alot is sense!
I think there's some blue devils marimba player who play on scv front ensemble now ;v
mmmmm i dont think so i think every marimba is either new or was there last year, but hey, could be wrong
Chris Mason ya maybe
Inside three were from last year and the outside two are new. I don’t know if they played in BD or not though
the girl on the outside left played for blue knights in ‘16 and the guy on the right is a rookout
Sorry everyone else. 3peat!
anyone tryna dm me a full show link?
lowkey im a year late but if u need one i got on lmao
@@scottcripps4412 i gotchu bro, search up dcicollection on instagram and if you go to the igtv posts on their page you’ll see babylon
Thomas Michelle Martinez George Moore Christopher
Uniform was ehhh but the technique and the playing was on point🔥
Are those the drums from last year?
Yeah they are. At the time, they didn't get their new drums yet
8:50
Brilliant book, worst uniforms ever.
I think the drum majors look really badass but the rest of the uniforms are pretty awful lol
GUTTERED Seriously? I disagree. It's a very clean look and HAS to be easier for the performers to manage and endure.
Joseph Nichols same here
One point on the design, they do have pockets so
@7 Angels 7 Plagues 8 months later and I'm still laughing at how he forgot that it is a square root.
