    Am I'm I the only one impressed with how they started. From what I can tell their cue came from the trumpet player reaching for his horn then reaching back in time. Very subtle yet very effective.

      Jason Phillips I usually only like RCC. Their playing is controlled and tasteful, their performance quality is genuine and and not stiff. Rhythm X is also very good. Great movement quality.

    So the “with or without you” ending with pointing at the trumpet I think was a sign saying that regardless of what anyone thinks they (RCC) is going to innovate and try new things like for ex. A trumpet. Hence why their show was “the sound of progress”.

    • @IrisuIlle
      @IrisuIlle 6 лет назад +8

      But the only thing is they are not the only group who did that. For example, infinity 2 with the flugelhorn solo during their ballad.

    • @brothaNblue
      @brothaNblue 6 лет назад +34

      I think whole point is that the activity as a whole is going to continue to envolve whether people agree with it or not.

    • @MrTallformyheight
      @MrTallformyheight 6 лет назад +8

      As others have pointed out, it's more about the activity as a whole rather than just RCC

    • @DrumlineArchives
      @DrumlineArchives 6 лет назад +11

      Agreed. And at the end, the trumpet takes its place in the back corner as a symbol of the continued legacy of innovation of RCC (along with all the other props from past seasons).

      RCC is going to turn wgi into dci

  • @joshpurvis3566
    @joshpurvis3566 3 года назад +34

    I've been thinking about this for a while and wanted to put my thoughts down and maybe get some input from other wgi addicts. I think this show references each previous show RCC has performed.
    -2002: far left painting (heartbeat), also fitting that the first reference is for the first RCC show
    -2003: jump and play stuff @ 4:20
    -2004: painting 2nd from the left (little squares) is the same design as the backdrops in 2004
    -2005: ghost notes at 6:00? 2005 had a cool ghost note/decrescendo in their ballad, so this could be a reference to that. There were also like 5 dance breaks in 2005, so maybe the dance break Landon starts is a reference
    -2006: ??? I can't find anything other than the floors being similar colors. Could be a hidden reference in the 2 paintings I don't have a show for (middle and far right) or some similar music from the pit, but I'm not sure
    -2007: little drum on the pedestal is referencing the end of the 2007 show when a kid walks out and plays some flams on a tiny drum
    -2008: black hat hanging in the white room
    -2009: sidestep drill at 6:03 is a well known part of the 2009 opener
    -2010: the repeated "running" visual at the beginning of the show is also used a lot in the beginning of 2010, it's a fairly common visual and fits -2018s theme so I could be reading too far into it. Right after the jump and play at 4:20 they have the same 5:3 rhythm in the battery that the 2010 show ends with, so maybe also that. I also feel like the pit has similar motifs in both shows but I don't know 2010 well enough to say for sure
    -2011: 2nd painting from the right (squiggly line) is the floor from 2011, plus various "flying" visuals
    -2012: folded flag on a pedestal in the white room, also cymbals at 4:50 when they lay on their backs (edit: tenors at 5:36 have a traditional grip prep, so that could also be a 2012 reference)
    -2013: snare visual at the beginning of the 6:15 Tenor feature is a repeated visual in 2013, mostly in the beginning
    -2014: bull horn on the pedestal in the white room
    -2015: little tree in back of white room. Also the lunge down at 6:09 could be referencing the final battery impact of 2015
    -2016: I'm surprised I'm having a hard time here, since 2016 is one of my favorite wgi shows ever. I think the left hand prep/fake out at 5:36 references the fake out in 2016 right after the tenors have the traditional grip feature towards the beginning. I'm sure there's a better reference somewhere. (edit: I just noticed tenors do this prep in traditional as well, so this is definitely a 2016 and/or 2012 reference)
    -2017: "wings" visual at 2:25 from the dudes running behind the props. Could also be a 2011 reference. I think cymbals around 5:00 as well, but I'm not sure
    -2018: the show ends with the trumpet being added to the white room, saying that this show is now part of RCC's legacy and history
    Observations: I see 3 eras in RCC's indoor history. 2002-2009, 2011-2016, and 2017-present. 2010 is left out because it's really weirdly in the middle of two eras and I can't decide where to put it. This also follows the drum brands they've used. The first era was Dynasty, in 2010 they switched to Pearl, and in 2017 they switched to System Blue. This makes sense, because there's a good chance that changing drums could've been caused by changing staff as well.
    I watched 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2010 for the first time to find some of these references

      One of the Basses got kicked. Don't know for what or why it's been to long and I only really heard rumors

    Not A fan of RCC or this show at all. But you'd have to be dense to say that they were not the very definition of PHENOMENALLY clean this season. That quad break near the end, that's rhythmically verbatim to what the Front is playing, is one of the most awe-inspiring passages I've ever seen in this activity. Give credit where credit is due

      So are you posting Pulse's? Or are there copyright issues there.

      I posted it on a separate account since the last time posted a finals run of Pulse, Box 6 deleted the video and banned the account. Check the most recent videos when searching WGI 2018 and you’ll find it 👍🏻

    This makes me so mad. The group I'm in used an accordion in our show and almost got penalized for it being a "wind instrument" now this group wins with a damned trumpet?!

      Melanie Rollings Sorry this is such a late response but WGI does allow non percussion instruments but the trumpet in this I believe is only judged for GE rather than the musicality. I think groups get approved for using them? I’m not too sure. I know for a fact that Pulse in 2018 had a string quartet that was officially approved by WGI (I think).
      I don’t what circuit you participate in, but depending on the circuit the rules could be different :/

      The new rule is any instrumentation is allowed, but the majority has to be percussion.

    Wgi is so weird. I don't understand it. First I thought it was just guard but it's also battery yet it has trumpet solos and other wind instruments

    • @unknownartist113
      @unknownartist113 5 лет назад

      This was just a show that had a trumpet in it. I don't think they normally have wind instruments in them

    • @Maya-ox8pw

      The trumpet is a featured soloist for their 2018 production.
      WGI is for mainly anything indoor marching: guard, percussion, and winds. For the percussion groups some like to implement different instruments as featured soloists that really add to the effect of the show. Not every group implements these soloists because they might just not need them for certain years.
