- Quick and Easy Instant Pot Boiled Peanuts is a quick recipe to make the traditional southern salty snack. What used to take many hours to make, boiling them in a pot now can be made in a fraction of the time. You can have an even better-boiled peanut by leveraging the power of a pressure cooker in under an hour and a half. That is why I am sharing this boiled peanuts instant pot recipe with you.
Boiled peanuts originated in South Carolina so if you are ever in the state and wondering what to eat in South Carolina, boiled peanuts are it. Boiled peanuts are actually the South Carolina State Snack food and are one of South Carolinas best eats!
Boiled peanuts are a super popular snack that is enjoyed by many Southerners. You can usually find them at roadside stands, many convenience stores or gas stations, or even the local grocery store.
The traditional way to make them consists of boiling them in a big pot with salted water for many hours. This process takes green peanuts and turns them into a briny soft snack that is simply delicious.
The salty water is what gives them that great flavor that you crave. They are a such delicious snack.
Boiled peanuts are enjoyed year-round, but their popularity increases as summer fades into fall. As the South turns its eyes to football season, this snack really raises its salty head on each game day. They are a true Southern delicacy.
If you do not have an instant pot, you are missing out. You can cook so many dishes in it in a fraction of the time.

How To Make Them:
EQUIPMENT
Instant Pot or another brand of an electric pressure cooker. You could also use a traditional pressure cooker.
Trivet
Pyrex Dish
INGREDIENTS
1 pound of green peanuts
1/4 cup salt sea salt or kosher
6-8 cups of cold water use filtered or distilled
INSTRUCTIONS
Preparing The Peanuts
Before making the peanuts you will want to wash them a few times. Peanuts are similar to potatoes in that they are tubers that grow underground. They may have dirt on them.
I like to fill up my sink, then add the peanuts and wash them around. Drain the water, then do that a few more times. This ensures you get all the dirt off them. Washed peanuts will result in the possible product.
Cooking The Peanuts
Step 1 Combine the peanuts, water, and salt in the pressure cooker.
Step 2 Stir until the salt has dissolved.
Step 3 Add the trivet on top and place a Pyrex dish or bowl on top of the trivet.
Step 4 Put the pressure cooker lid on and turn it to lock. Close the pressure relief valve to the sealing position.
Step 5 Use the manual setting on the instant pot and set it to 80 mins.
Step 6 Once the time has run out, allow the instant pot pressure to do a natural pressure release (NAP), basically letting the instant pot do a natural release. At this point, you simply do not do anything.
This will take 20 to 30 minutes to take place. Once the pressure indicator has fallen, it will be ready to open and enjoy.

We grew up on boiled peanuts, Ronnie. Love the Instant Pot version.
It’s just so easy to make in the instant pot! I did as well. So yummy!
Heck ya! Good stuff right there. Last time I made them I used a spicy seafood seasoning and it turned out pretty good. It’s nice to mix it up some. Nice work. Stay well buddy!
I totally plan on doing a few alternative recipes like Cajun and one more that I want to show. Cajun are so good! Thanks guys. I appreciate y’all.
I was lucky enough 40 years ago to have stopped alongside the road and bought some boiled peanuts from a guy who was selling them. He was using a 55 gallon drum he had cut in half and built a fire underneath.. I'll never forget the experience. I'm gonna get my Instapot out right now and make some!
That is part of the experience right there! I hope you enjoy them!
Great instructions! I’ve been looking for instant pot instructions for “boiling” green peanuts. I’m a South Carolina girl. I never knew you you could make boiled peanuts from raw peanuts in a bag! 🤪
Nothing like SC boiled pnuts is there? If you like them less salty you can reduce it a little. Yeah the raw pnuts are just dehydrated green peanuts. They just take a little more time to cook. I hope you like it. So simple and quick in the instant pot!
They can’t simply be raw, they have to be green.
They can be raw but are much better green!
I appreciate your video. I’ve made boiled peanuts all my life stove top, got tired of mess so I moved to slow cooker, got tired of waiting so I bought an insta pot (same one in video). Having to learn how to use it and I found your video. Pressure cookers scare me as I didnt grow up in a home where they were used. Fingers crossed I don’t get hurt 😅
You can do it. It has many safety features built in to protect you. Like it won’t start if the lid is t seated properly. You got this!
Love me some boiled peanuts! I do either instant pot if I want em fast or let them sit in a crockpot for a looong time just like a good gas station hah. I got plenty of raw not green unfortunately that I need to make soon, such a good snack. Hope y’all have a great week Ronnie!
Thanks buddy. Yeah it’s hard to beat them. I’m glad to hear you like them too. Are they popular in your area?
I love boiled peanuts, our favorite when drinking beer😂
They are hard to beat!
I lived in Hawaii all my life, we eat them a lot, and when ever we grave them with 🍺
Is this something that is part of Hawaiian life or did you pick it up somewhere else? I am from SC and from the research I have done, this originated here in SC. That is why I am curious. Thanks for sharing. @@robertawestbrooks9531
Hey Ronnie. Boiled peanuts are probably the best food during fall time. Hope you have been doing well. I’m holding up. Something new all the time but God is good
You got that right. I love eating them while watching the ball game! Thanks buddy. Glad you are holding up! Keep pushing forward.
God is good
All the time!
Love me some boiled peanuts. A church member gave us 3 or 4 pounds of the green ones that we boiled. They were really good. However, I think I will go lighter on the salt next time. After they sat for a few hours they sucked up a little more than I like. Hope y'all are doing well, Ronnie. Keep my mom in your prayers. She had another episode and had to go to hospital for a few days.
I agree they are so good. I tend to like lighter salt as well. This is the normal amount but I would put a little less in mine as well. I got a recipe I am going to share in a few weeks hopefully that is pretty good. It is boiled peanuts but a flavored variety. Thanks buddy and I will keep her in my prayers!
Well I’ll take mine the good olé way buddy but my wife absolutely loves boiled peanuts. I think they fall under the Spam category for me😜 Man you really nailed the lighting and exposure in this video Ronnie, you get some new equipment? It looked great I really like how it turned out! I can’t never get that kind of results indoors keep up the great work brother!
Yeah I bought a new camera and some wireless lapel mics. I am still learning it though as you can see the one part is totally out of focus lol 😂 I had to include it though because it was an important part haha. The camera is a older model I bought off of eBay though but it does really great video. It’s a Panasonic LUMIX G85. They run about 400. Then I bought a prime 25mm lens for it. I also have the kit lens with it.
But man these boiled peanuts are the bomb. I love them. So quick and easy to make. Thanks bud
Yeah it looks great brother I Immediately noticed a big difference in your video! Heck I wouldn’t worry about it it’s just going to take some time to get use to how everything works. But man like I said definitely a game changer for your videos.
@@swampstalkeroutdoors Thanks man I really appreciate that. Means a lot!
Heyyyy 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾Ronnie was just looking at some of your old videos are you all going to the Ashe County Pumpkin festival this year? Or do you know of any festivals here in South Carolina? Good to see you as always thank you for your content ☺️. Question what brand instapot do you have I’m thinking about getting one this year
We hadn't talked about it yet but I would love to. We are going to the Western NC in a few weeks but we are going to Maggie Valley. I may see if the wife wants to take the kids back to Ashe County and just spend one night there. I really like going there. There is Aw Shucks which is a really cool place in Monroe, NC. We have been there a few times. Also, Antioch Baptist Church in Lancaster has a Pumpkin Patch with some things for kids. Fall is the time for festivals so there will be a bunch coming up. One that I would love to go to is the Chicken Bog Festival in Loris, SC. As far as brand of Electric Pressure cooker, I have the Instant Pot brand. It is the Duo 7-in1 8 quart. It is the larger version. I just got it last year for Christmas and they have some newer ones out now that has more features. It is made really well with a stainless steel pot on the inside. I don't have much knowledge of the other brands other than the old manual type of cook top pressure cooker. If you do decide to purchase one, consider using my affiliate link that is in the description box of my videos. It helps me out and doesn't cost you anything more to use. I get a small percentage of the sale which helps me buy more equipment and food haha. Thanks for your support as always.
@@SouthernFoodJunkie ok is there something going on in Western NC and Maggie Valley?
@@waltonboys9438 We are just going because we like that area and it is fall time. My mom likes to go as well so we are taking her up there as well as my nephew and his Girlfriend. There is no really specific reason.
@@SouthernFoodJunkie gotcha you’re such a good son. Enjoy your trip ☺️. I hope to see some more videos from you soon
@@waltonboys9438 Hopefully will have more out soon!
Did you use green peanuts or raw peanuts? Do they cook the same way? Thanks...
I used green peanuts. Green are straight out the field. Raw are uncooked as well but have been dehydrated. The raw will take a little longer to cook. I prefer green if I can find them. Thanks!
@@SouthernFoodJunkie Thanks. I lived in Georgia for number of years and love the darn things. Since I came to Texas, no boiled peanuts. Might give the raw version a try...
@@DannerPlace Hey you are welcome my friend!
How much water did you add to the 2 lb of peanuts?
6 to 8 cups.
Here is a printable recipe if you want it: southernfoodjunkie.com/quick-and-easy-instant-pot-boiled-peanuts/
High or low on the cooker?
I cooked these in the instant pot. In the crock pot cook on low for about 6-8 hours.
👍 thanks
Anytime!
How much water?
Hey Robin,
Sorry for not saying that or putting that in the remarks. If you head over to my website via this link: southernfoodjunkie.com/quick-and-easy-instant-pot-boiled-peanuts/ there will be the full recipe and you can print it out if you wish! But to answer your question, you will need 6-8 cups of water.
I didn't see you submerge the peanuts with the grate and pyrex dish. Is it not that important?
No I didn’t do it. It’s optional as some people want to. I personally don’t think you need it but mentioned it incase ppl wanted to.
Thank you for the clarification. Wishing you and yours the best through the coming yuletide and New Year.
@AuLily1 Anytime!
You as well!@@AuLily1
Boiled peanuts originated in africa. That's where peanuts came from, and it is a southern tradition as such. Technically, they are from South America, but the Portuguese took them to their colonies in Africa, and then they made their way back to the southern United States. Wild.
Yes that’s true about the origin of them. The south, mainly SC, is credited with the boiling of the peanuts.
Mmmmmmm🤘
Thanks for stopping by buddy. I truly appreciate it.
@@SouthernFoodJunkie picked up some boiled peanuts yesterday at Flowers seafood in Edisto SC. Mmmmmmmmm
@@smoking_bears_ I need to go back to Edisto. It’s been a few years since we’ve been. That produce stand going in on the right sakes a killer Key line Pie!
@@SouthernFoodJunkie Kings Market, oh yeah we stopped hahaha
@@smoking_bears_ Yeah that’s it!
Isnt 80 mins too long?
They turn out great for me following these instructions. You can always play with the time.
Are you there??
I am here
@@SouthernFoodJunkie the process if I used a bag of peanuts from the store
Any idea??
You need to buy green peanuts from the store to follow this recipe. You can also use raw peanuts but they man take a little longer to cook. Check out my blog post on my website and it will explain further. Thanks 🙏
I thought boiled peanuts originated in Louisiana
Nope right here in SC according to the research I have done.
Boiled peanuts are big in eastern NC also
@@larrysmith6499 That is true. They are pretty popular all throughout the south!
Too many talks…
Thanks for the feedback.
