    Precook your lentils separately!! And drain the water, this will remove the starches that cause gas and bloating.

    • @dah_goofster
      @dah_goofster 3 года назад

      But what about the nutrients?

    • @Grymyrk
      @Grymyrk 3 года назад +5

      @@dah_goofster there are no nutrients in the starch. TBH these days I just wash and rinse the lentils thoroughly until the water is somewhat clear and don't bother pouring the cooking water off. Seems to work fine.

      @@Grymyrk yeah I wasn’t talking bout just the start he though the cooking water could carry some nutrients in it but who really know unless some university does a study on it. The whole reason I’m switching my diet to soups and stews now is for the collagen and to make veggies more bioavailable, that’s the only reason I was asking haha

    I’m no vegetarian but lentils are an awesome protein. Cheap, high protein, and with all the profound health benefits of legumes.
    One nice thing about lentils vs other legumes is that they are easier to digest, which allows you to eat a lot without getting gassy. Eventually your bifidobacteria will grow and your gut will adapt to any amount of fiber (one of the greatest benefits of eating a lot of legumes), but it’s great to have an option that’s easier to digest.

    • @Barbend
      @Barbend  4 года назад +3

      Great comment! Yeah, it's lower in oligosaccharides, which can cause gas. Of course everyone's gut is different but these are easier to digest and to cook. They just seem a bit happier to be eaten. - Nick

      50 grams per 3 cups. It’s a lot. When lentils are cooked they absorb the water and become more dense. Just like rice. So 3 cups of cooked lentils is like a whole full meal, if not more. The macros of lentils are amazing, but eating that much will make you feel super bloated and like a fart machine.

      @d It's 3 cups of lentils. If you google the nutrition in 1 cup of boiled lentils and times it by three, you'll see this recipe isn't that far off from that amount. I decreased the protein a bit and added some carbs and fat because of the olive oil and extra veggies, but it's not far fetched to get over 50 grams of protein in 3 cups.
