    *Just to clarify and I haven't emphasized in the video - with the Ring Alarm Pro you will also need to replace your existing router. Ring recommends it to be the main router and not setup as an extender and it's features like the local recording and the backup internet will only work if it is setup as the main router. So, if you already have a good Wifi and network setup, the Alarm Pro will not be a good option for you and the regular Ring Alarm will.*

      Bridge mode is only if you have a combo modem/router. The Alarm Pro will replace your router, so you need to deactivate the wifi of your existing modem/router so there will be no interference. The regular ring alarm doesn’t have a router.

    Is it possible to turn off the LTE/celluar function? Either with a physical switch or in the app? Like putting your phone in airplane mode or turning off LTE when you are home and want to make sure your phone is just using wifi. So, when you are home or in town you could turn off LTE, and then just turn it on if the power goes out or you go out of town for a while. Also, is it possible for videos to save both to the SD card in base station and also to cloud, or is it one or the other?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 года назад +1

      The cellular/internet backup is automatic. It is OFF by default when you have home internet and automatically switches to backup internet when it senses that your home internet has an outage or is disconnected. Also on the SD card recording, it is one or the other, not both but you have select which of your Ring cameras will record to the card.

    Definitely considering this to replace my "traditional" system. Based on the comments though I want to do some more research to make certain I don't need to make it the main router for all the features. Seems like it's possible. But it's also not the end of the world If I need to setup a new eero mesh network. It's just more cost as I need to get the wifi 6 extenders to cover my entire space properly.

  • @HughD

    Thanks so much for doing this. I have a couple of questions. First, assuming Ring is continuing to use AT&T for cellular service, placement of the base is critical for coverage for much of the country (me, too). My best spot for my existing Alarm base is not near my modem and it's totally impractical to run an ethernet cable across the house for that. I already have an Eero mesh system (the dual band version with ethernet ports, not the tri-band) and am wondering if I could "waste" one of my Eeros by moving it close enough to the base to connect them by ethernet cable? Of course I'd end up with two networks, one for Ring stuff and another for everything else as it is now? I hope this question makes sense. I'm trying to optimize my cellular/backup connection without rewiring my house. Surely Ring/Amazon will figure out a way to just use the Eero as another device in the mesh and not force it to be in a sub-optimal location in the house for cell coverage.

      Yes and I now realized that this Pro is not for everybody. If you already have a good internet/WiFi setup, then this Pro is not going to work for you. It has to use the eero mesh network to work with the local recording and I don’t think you can use just the alarm and not the router. Also the alarm pro router needs to be the main router and not the extender. So, your choice would be the regular ring alarm.

    @LifeHackster or anyone. Any updates on this? My ISP uses a Eero to connect to the Fiber ONT. My Nighthawk is then plugged into the Eero. From there, connected to my unmanaged switch. I dont see the Eero and Nighthawk causing issues ane no double NAT that i can see either. Dont need to update per se but i was thinking with the Eeeo on board, i can have my cameras use that and when power and such go out, ill still have access to the cameras (I dochave a backup generator so a good amount of the wired cameras will have power).
    Another question is how much data has the system and cameras used?

Would I be needing to remake wholes on the wall to hang? Maybe just 1, using one of the current wholes or so? Just wondering. Thanks.

    How do you feel about Ring changing their monthly subscription to $20 a month instead of $10? I've been a protect pro subscriber for some time and was told I would be grandfathered in.. that is until they sent a letter about how we would be forced to upgrade the subscription to $20 starting the 1st of the 2025 year. It would be amazing if you could do a Alexa guard glass break test. I have no idea if it actually works. Maybe set the alarm and use a rock or glass breaker on a picture frame or a small piece of glass? Or an audio recording of glass breaking?

    • @unkhammunankh7252

      It works, but it is cumbersome. Ive been using that alternative after I switched from Frontpoint (excellent alarm system/monitoring but $50 a month) since Ring did not have a glass break sensor (until recently). What I discovered is that 1, Alexa Guard only detects glass breaking sounds (or people sounds) when Ring is set to Away mode, so at night when we are at home sleeping with Home mode on it would not detect a glass break. This is detrimental since I cannot arm the alarm to Away mode because that will also arm the “people sounds” in the Alexa guard and it is so sensitive that it will be triggered by even any of us snoring, and that results in an annoying alarm sound from the Echos throughout the house.
      2., when Alexa guard detects glass breaking sounds, it does NOT trigger an alarm event on Ring, but rather sends you a push notification through the Alexa app for you to listen to it and determine if it is a glass breaking sound. Still then, if it is, you have to manually set off your Ring alarm so on top of the fact that it is delayed by the time you actually get to hear the sound, it still won’t integrate and automatically set the alarm off once you confirm the sound…by then burglars have already ransacked your place and left!

    I heard that Ring videos are slow to load on some people's phones, but the new router w/ local SD storage solved that problem with much faster loading speeds on their phones. However, if using local SD for storage then it sounds like you don't get the 30 days storage in the cloud. Is this correct?

In other words, do I have to connect it to my spectrum modem as my wifi router and not as another "extender" ? the reason im asking is because I'm currently using the eero 6 pro E (support faster internet, the regular 6 pro only goes up to 1mbps speed i believe )connected to my Spectrum modem. I also have ethernet ports on the wall around the house, so if I use it as an extender, it would be hardwired to the network. help!
