    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    A year ago, I did a ton of research. I was trying to choose between Ring, Simplisafe, and Nest. I chose Ring. The biggest thing was the upfront cost. I had to buy the security system, extra sensors, and cameras so it added up. But once all set up, the professional monitoring is very affordable. I pay for the whole year and I have no complaints. I’m glad I chose this system.

    I bought my first Ring alarm system roughly five years ago. It worked perfectly the entire time I used it. I recently sold my house and I bought a new house. First thing I did was buy a new Ring system for my new house. Their system just works like it's supposed to. Super easy to install and the app is literally dummy proof. FYI: Battery powered ZWave devices do not relay information. Otherwise, the battery would have to be replaced much more frequently. Since almost all Ring devices are battery powered it is advisable to have a range extender for any devices more than 30 feet from the base station. Side note - I did not know that 3rd party sirens were available. I like the idea of having one outside to alert neighbors if my house is breached. I will have to check these out. I purchased both Ring and Simplisafe. Comparing all the options for home security was the hardest part of the whole process. Installed the Ring first...smooth install, very smooth. Then, based mostly on special pricing and I don't know what else, removed and packed up the Ring and installed the Simplisafe. The install was glitchy due to the fact my router was broadcasting in 5g. I had to change router settings to 2.4mhz because that's all the Simplisafe recognizes. Seemed odd but apparently it works better through walls and floors? News to me but, ok. There were a couple of other times I was on my laptop looking things up and one phone call to customer service. The glitches were early on and then finished up smoothly. After an attempted break-in last week, I slept soundly last night and it was worth the effort. Ring and Simplisafe are probably equal in terms of quality but watch for special pricing for each. I ordered the Ring from Amazon and it was a refurb. Still the Simplisafe with special pricing ended up being the better deal.

      You also fail to mention that Ring has "smash and grab" protection and SimpliSafe does not. Finally SimpliSafe is easily jammed with a $40 Chinese handheld radio and Ring uses a more secure and not easily thwarted Z-Wave technology which is a much better solution. Just moved from SimpliSafe to Ring because of those two major flaws in SimpliSafe design.

    Ring security system is a bargain at $100 annual fee ($8.34 per month). Separate doorbell cam and individual cams video storage were $30 each per year so the system flat rate of $100 for multiple cams is a great deal. We have 4 external cams and a garage cam going for two different homes. We can also "share" and monitor both house cams. Great security systems.

    I've had the ring alarm system for a while now. It has some serious flaws that undermine the whole thing. First, they don't have glass break sensors. I have a basement with a couple of windows (potential entry points). I decided to put a motion detector in the basement that any potential thief would have to walk past. If a bug crawls across the sensor, it will trip the alarm and there is no way to make the system alarm only after at least two sensors detect something.

    • @dannyklingaman7181
      @dannyklingaman7181 2 года назад

      If you’re handy, there are ways to modify a ring door sensor and turn it into a glass break sensor. You have to open it up and cut out the magnetic switch, then solder on two wires from a separate glass break sensor. I made one of those and it works great on my ring alarm. The biggest issue I have with ring right now is 1) I realized that ring won’t tell you which sensor was triggered either when the alarm is disarmed or when it is armed. If someone breaks in in the middle of the night, personally I want to know where they broke in immediately so that I can react accordingly.

      @@OneHourSmartHome ad a fellow RUclipsr I will be sure and use your link to purchase my kit if I go that direction. I know it helps you put a little and I appreciate the work you put into this video. One question for you: I also would like to have at least three cameras on my system and I'm trying to decide between the ring indoor cameras or something like wyze cam. Do you have any experience between those platforms or is there something else you would recommend that works well with the ring ecosystem?

    • @OneHourSmartHome
      @OneHourSmartHome  3 года назад +1

      I've had a first gen Wyze cam: amzn.to/2OZkmMX for years that I used for monitoring my garage. I also have an Indoor Ring Cam: amzn.to/3qXCV2g that I will be doing a review on in the next month or two.
      As far as Wyze goes it works and will record video locally or you can pay for extra cloud storage. A feature I liked is that that you can insert a memory card so that it's recording even if you lose your wifi connection. The things that I noticed with it are that it sometimes is difficult to get connected to wifi networks the first time you set it up because they typically only want to connect to 2.4GHZ networks, so with my Eero network I had to temporarily disable the 5GHZ network to get it connect the first time. After that it ran pretty smoothly.
      The only other downside I've had is that sometimes the motion notifications or remote viewing was delayed or a little clunky, but it still worked and still recorded but sometimes it required me to do a refresh in the app or open and close the app again. However they are a really low cost option for video monitoring which is what can make them a good value.
      With the Indoor Ring Cam it was easier to connect and the app interface is cleaner on the Ring app for control especially with several cameras or other Ring products. The integrations with Alexa and Ring were also cleaner than the integrations with Wyze and Alexa. There is more functionality with Ring and other smart home devices than Wyze. The response with remote viewing Ring cameras was slightly more reliable and slightly faster. However the Ring Cameras are more expensive than the Wyze cameras and do require a monthly subscription for video storage even though the Ring monthly plan for multiple cameras is typically less expensive than most competitors.
      My personal opinion is that Ring is slightly more secure and less likely to be hacked than Wyze but that's just a personal opinion. Ring is owned by Amazon. Wyze is currently it's own company.
      Wyze works and it can be a good value depending on your use case. Ring works and it's more polished, has more integrations and has better support but comes in at a higher price point. Video quality is fairly similar when viewing on a phone from either camera, I think the Ring has slightly better night vision than the Wyze cam but now Wyze has a spotlight you can add on to the standard cam which improves night vision.

    These systems not just ring but others as well are easily manipulated with very cheap frequency devices. These systems are literally useless against them. No one ever talks about how easily these systems can be turned off by someone else just by running a matching frequency from a small device. The frequency of these systems are common knowledge and can be found in any user's manual or website.

    Does anyone know if this works as a good toddler door alarm? Example. If my two year old opens the front/back door, does the chime happen that second or is there delay? Does it happen at point of entry ooor does chime go to my phone? (delay)

    Do any smart plugs work with this alarm? For example, if someone breaks in and the alarm goes off, I would want certain lights to turn on and also have a few external sirens hooked up to smart plugs to alert outside.

    • @static34622
      @static34622 2 года назад

      No. Smart plugs and smart switches will not activate when the alarm is sounding. External sirens will however work. Now I have several light switches installed and they work great. Even a variable fan switch. But they only work intentionally. Meaning you have to toggle them individually through the app. But Ring does not have a “scene” option for these switches and plugs. An example is: When my wife comes home from work she has to turn on the garage light and the kitchen light. Then come inside. There is NOT an option for “I am home” and a list of lights are turned on.

    I didn't see any siren's that work with Ring. I would like the hide the base station in a none visible location that could muffle the sound. Having a siren else where would be useful.
