- Today we will look at my next product to be on Amazon very soon. It's the GRS Powered Gate switcher for Sanwa or Sanwa compatible joysticks.
This is the first Co-Created product between GRS TSticks and Stefan Burger. Stefan created an awesome product and we have many more great ideas coming from the Stefan Burger Studios!

Hey Glen i just ordered one! cant wait to try out but have a question for you, im gonna put this in partycade modded with pandora box/king of air 2. i can do rest of installation but to power the main controller board, can i plug that USB into any power outlet, would that be ok?? or does it need to be connected to a PC? can i also plug it into the spare usb port on the pandora box?

Glen just installed these in my A1U Joust Legacy cabinet and will say these switchers are amazing.
Very easy to install.
Installed them with Sanwa’s and what a difference in game play being able to switch between 8 and 4.
Now with a push of a button I can play Wizard if War and Rootbeer Tapper.
Mounted my LED 8/4 button on the front right under the control panel right under P1. Looks amazing.
Even Joust play is much better vs utilizing the 8 way controls for A1U.
Will be playing the other games soon to see how it works. Thanks for offering a great product!

I'm in Md. As well, but the Rockville store said they don't have any GRS stuff in stock. Nor do they ship from their individual locations.

Got mine today. Installed it in the front of my ALU so I was just drilling through the plastic of the dust guard. Drilled a hole in the back of the dust guard for the USB cord to come out. Worked like a charm. Super easy to install. Works perfectly. Made my ALU into a true retro multicade instantly.

Nice design. Hopefully you'll be able to get the buttons on their own as well; Nice options for coin entry/ select/start buttons, etc.
It's great to see another option to the Ultimarc ServoStiks. I'd been holding off putting ServoStiks in one of my machines because of how much horizontal space the motor/arm takes up, but since this doesn't extend past the mounting plate it would work much better. Maybe you can get support added to LEDBlinky, which has built-in support for Mame switching on the ServoStik - it should be trivial for them to change the targeted executable.
Chances are good that there will be LEDBlinky support.

This is a really phenomenal product. It's probably too niche to develop but I would love to see versions of this for some other joysticks as well (Seimitsu levers!). But as-is it's revolutionary in its simplicity. I plan to put one in my ALP. I'm going to see if it fits on Otto's JLF body.

I love this product and idea, but the design make it hard to install in shallow control boxes. the servo should be off to the side and inverted like with the tron controller.

Okay, I'm installing on a 2 joystick ALU 1.0. I have the gates on. I am using the P1 button hole for the 4/8 gate changer, and the P2 button for Player 1 & 2, using another 2 way button. My question is for the flat connectors, that were connected to the button switches that I replaced. Where can I get the adapters that can plug the flat connectors into the wiring harness, and then where does that plug into the control board?
Anybody got a video for the ALU 1.0 install? My cabinet is dead in the water and I would like to play some games...

I’m trying to install this on my iiRcade but I’m having trouble getting the wires disconnected from the P1 start button. I’m tugging on them pretty hard but they aren’t budging. Am I missing something here? Unfortunately in your video, it just cuts when you’re taking them off.

Fantastic product Glen! You should sell adapter cables seperatly for the iiRcade when time permits. Also, I have to think of a solution to power them, I wonder if there is anything internally on the iiRcade that could be tapped? Instead of having to power them seperatly. Also, just so I'm clear: I would need 1 big kit and 1 little kit for the iiRcade, correct?

@@GlensRetroShow Re-watched the video, I understand now you need one of the all in one kits, and then just the joystick kit for each additional joystick.
I successfully added the main kit and the expansion to my Arcade Legends Ultimate and since I had the BitLCD installed which includes a USB hub, I was able just to cut one hole in the black plastic cover of the game deck to run the power USB cable and plug it internally into the hub. The only part I don't have figured out is the "adapters" to make the new 2-way button replace both the P1 and P2 buttons. How did people make them or did they just cut connectors and splice the wires together?
I have a new Atgames Legends Ultimate, where do I plug in the usb power cable for the board?

Mine just arrived! Amazing product, thank you! I need your help! I'm trying to use my Elgato Stream Deck to switch the joysticks from 4 to 8 way. I'm using PC windows 10 computer. How can I program my Elgato Stream Deck to activate the application to switch from 4 to 8-way? I'm planning on using 2 buttons on the stream deck, one to switch to 4-way and another button to switch to 8-way. I'm guessing I should use the tos428cl program? Please help!
I just added this to my bartop, its pretty damn cool. Just trying to figure out how to intergrade it with MAME so when i pick a game it just switches automatically.

If I'm not mistaken, you can do that through the setup calibration tool. You do have to connect it to your Windows PC to run the tool and I believe you can tell not to do any lights. If not let me know we can change the programming

Hey @echothreeful @glensretroshow @BurgerStefan. Big fan here, but the same exact thing is happening with my TOS GRS switchable gates on both players 1 and 2. I have an ALU as well and I recently swapped out the stock joysticks for Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT joysticks because I was adding these switchable gates and wanted them to work perfectly. One diagonal is always not registering. This is happening on both players 1 and 2. If I use the PC software to try to fine tune a particular diagonal, it usually just messes up another diagonal which kind of makes sense because everything is shifting together. 4 way works fine. It feels as if something is off with the square cut out not matching up perfectly to the Sanwa's. Were you able to resolve your issue? I so badly want this to work. I even have a brand new hole cut out for the 2-in-1 button. Would be a shame if I drilled out that whole for nothing. Thanks for the help!
With an atgames legends, the stock joysticks won't work and we'll need a certain sanwa? Link? Or do we have to buy 2 tonight stick kits which have the swappable bar. But I'm looking for a bat stick. I assume the top ball in the tron kit can be swapped to bat?
What if you just want the Mash Button for Player 1 and Home Button for owners of Ultimate Gamer Mini? Can that Adapter Cable for the Player 1 and 2 button connectors or in my case because I have the Ultimate Gamer Mini and would probably use the Home Button hole with the second button as the Home and Player 1 Buttons so I can keep the Rewind Button easy to press during game play.

I can't get the utility to recognize the device. The message displayed is "Unable to find tos428 device on any existing COM-Port". I've tried two different computers and get the same error. What should I do?
Solved. Use the factory supplied cable or one that has data wires too. I was using my own cable that was supplying power only.
Hey hey, hope all are well. Has anyone had an issue using these two products with a Raspberry Pi. After installation, the buttons like up and work but the Pi will not recognize the two joysticks and 20 buttons. The Pi only recognizes the 2 in 1 buttons. I'll look at it again and double check my connections
Hi Glen! I know this video is over 2 years old now! :) But I've just bought this GRS power gate switcher and it's so well made! I want to drive it using an ESP32 microcontroller. My plan is to switch between 3.3V and 0V logic levels on the SW1 and SW2 inputs of the controller board - so the ESP32 simulates a switch being pressed. Can you please tell me, is it safe to apply 3.3V to the SW1 and SW2 inputs? Thank you.

Hi Glen, does the 12-1 board include include everything needed to convert the GRS A1U spinner to usb? I ordered from Kevin at Thunderstick's site, but unfortunately I had to order the 12-1 from Amazon.
Hi, MGPM. the 12 in 1 board will concert the GRS v1/v2 spinner and the GRS v1/V2 trackball to USB. It has the board and you only need a USB micro to A cable

I have a question regarding this product. I own a servostick and with this i can press F4 and F8 from Keyboard. It's possible to assign a key for switching 4/8 ways ? I wouldn't add the 2 in 1 button. Furthermore, can we use commandline for switching ?

Glen, I have ordered full set and expansion. I also have Stefans original set. Where is the configuration tool software to change colors on buttons.. I plug in my USB into pc and it says found arduino board.. any help??

Because the add-on will be useless without the card correct? One more question, by adding the replacement clear 4/8 will it be too long for 2 players countercade gen 3 Arcade1up? How long the bottom measure ? So I can measure my gen 3 countercade to see if it will work.
@@johnny58435 For each 2 player cabinet you need the All-in-One kit plus 1 extension kit. A much larger batch is already on its way. The switchable restrictor has to mounted to the buttom of your existing joystick. So the overall required clearance beneeth your control panel (joystick+restrictor) is 72.3 mm (approximately 2.8 inches). See the second from the right on the following image:

This would be perfect for my vertical cab! The only problem is that they sell out too quickly. By the time you announce it in-stock on FB they are gone.

You can use it with any joystick as long as the restrictor mount is Sanwa compatible. In worst case you use a Sanwa and replace the ball with a bat.

I'm sad, I hoped this was for the Tron joystick that I saw almost a year ago. I want the switcher for that version. I am also concerned with it sitting on the bottom of the joystick, instead of the side. How much clearance will some boxes have.. other than that looks good, with connector adapter from the traditional arcade irons to the pin connector that you made up be included for player 1 and 2?
Well the mechanics and servos consume some additional volume and most go some where. With the Sanwa version, the intention was to not exceed the joysticks footprint as it should work with existing control panel setups without the need to restructure them. As a downside it has some additional depth. The requiered clearance, measured from the downside of the control panel where the joystick plate attaches, to the bottom of the servo motor is 73 mm which roughly equals 2.87 inches. With the Tron version we will have a slightly different mechanical approach, because the Tron stick has already a significant bigger joystick base. The required clearance for the Tron switcher, again measured from the downside of the control panel where the Tron base is attached, to the bottom of the gate switcher is 59 mm wich roughly equals 2.32 inches.
As there are significant tooling costs for the production involved, we wanted to fulfill the much higher demand for the Sanwa version first before we continue with the Tron version (however we have a working prototype that is already optimized for injection molding). I'm pretty sure the Tron version will come later this year.
The so called "Two-in-One" kit that provides an additional servo restrictor and an additional 2-in-1 arcade button comes with a special wire harness that allows to connect the 2-in-1 button with most USB encoders (2-pin male JST connector with 2.54 inch pitch). There might be rare cases where an additional adapter cable must be made (e.g. for spade connectors as in Glens video).

@@BurgerStefan Thanks for the detailed reply. I bought Glen's joystick so I know this will not be for that but miffed that something that was teased early last year is pushed back for something that isn't even Glen's.
I will check to see what type of joysticks are in the tankstick so I still might get this version, it is in my Amazon wishlist after all. I think the adapter cable would make sense in the case that Glen showed. I would like to replace the player 1 & 2 and not drill another whole if I don't have to.
@@alexrobles7744 Both versions are originated by the same designer. The Tron version will use the same 2-in-1 arcade button, the same microcontroller board and has the identical functionality and software support.

No, because Q-bert requires to turn the complete joystick 45 degrees, not just the restrictor plate.
