Sorry but I don’t think that they would be allowed to stop at Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. They would not be able to make any more cool merchandise to sell. And as you know money talks.
@@Matt_Underwood I see what you mean but I think we are at the point where Dragon Ball can no longer please all their fans because of the size of it. I think a lot of DBs issues can be solved if we get a time skip after this arc and start fresh
Ultra Ego fits Vegeta so well, especially since he's calling out himself for having a giant ego and is seeming like he's saying his power is now coming from that giant ego.
@@Ramsey276one you mean like literally every villain ever? Can't wait for Vegeta to be put in his place. Again. Like always. "Next time why don't you remember your place like the rest of them... and wait for Goku?"
Dragon Ball transformations nowadays might have more thought put into them than they ever had. I love the meanings and mechanics of Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. How they have their own strenghts and drawbacks that mirror each other.
Super: transformations represent deeper aspects of psychology and spirituality, as well as being a creative combination of multiple power ups. Z: less inking hair lol
@@fatdurk7934 Don't need to. Taking damage and getting stronger is literally Goku Black. Clearing your mind and moving autonomously is literally Popo's training. Dragon Ball hasn't had a shred of originality since arguably the Cell saga.
It's always nice when new plot lines let you recontextualize older ones like this. Like it's all coming together. Actually, this notion of Ultimate Gohan being tied to the super ego has me reevaluating his Great Saiyaman persona a little. You could almost say that Saiyaman is a somewhat childish ideal born of Gohan's nostalgia for the adventures he had as a kid, and the mystic form is a more adult ideal shaped by being reminded of how traumatic those adventures really were.
The interesting thing about their new techniques is that they make up for their respective weaknesses as pointed out by Whis during early DBS (i.e. Goku's tendency to let his guard down, and Vegeta's tendency to "overthink") Geets' GoD mode combined with his forced spirit fission is a dangerous combo... The more he gets hit, the stronger he gets; and the more he hits the enemy, the weaker the enemy could potentially get. It suits Vegeta well as much as UI works well with Goku.
Would like to see them lean on gohan harnessing the power of the kais more. Would be cool to see gohan training with the kais to harness that power, while vegeta trains with beerus to harness the power of the gods , and goku train with whis to harness the power of the angels! Would be a cool way to give gohan some relevance again!
UE reminds me of that scene where Vegeta tried to attain Ultra Instinct. However, as time went on he didn't want to look like an idiot so he plays it off. "This is MY new form. Ultra Ego. I was simply... testing the proof of concept in the Tournament of Power. Weaklings like you couldn't understand the machinations of a true Saiyan warrior."
The fact that Vegeta himself names it that just feels like him openly admitting that he's got a giant sized ego but is perfectly okay with it and sees it as more of a positive thing for himself rather than a negative which is something most people wouldn't consider.
Somehow, despite knowing it would end this way, I was still disappointed that they wouldn't give Vegeta the win just this once. At least we got an awesome form out of it, even if it still fell short in the end. But hey, significant character development for Vegeta. I'll take it.
I feel the same exact way. They always have Vegeta fall just short at the very last second. Its too predictable. Just once, I'd like to see him battle to the end and win without some exmachina saving him at the last minute. He beat the crap out of golden freeza just to loose to some nonsense at the very last second and be saved by Whis' time rewind and Goku gets the win again when he didn't really deserve it. This series of events has to stop happening this way for every fight and every villain. I mean, come on. Can the guy win on his own just once? He has probably the most actual development of any major charecter, and its just become tiresome to see the same thing play out every time. Vegeta makes a big leap in personal growth, however satisfying that growth may be, only to fall just short at the end. Its annoying and a bit sad to see this coming every single time.
Gotta give them a reason to shove Goku in there to be the plot armor protag again, just like always. I love Goku but he gets way too much spotlight. In my personal opinion, Dragon Ball as a whole suffers from having way too many characters but not enough screen time for any of them. I wanna see Piccolo get a power-up, or Gohan, or really anybody that isn't Goku and Vegeta. Or at least have Vegeta win for once, because it seems like victory is almost exclusive to Goku and whatever villain who bodies most of the underdeveloped main cast.
@@katkarma5708 I think it was just said for this chapter in context with Granola asking him why he doesn't dodge. He doesn't dodge because of his ego. I don't think it's a name that was meant to be took seriously. It's really just his God Of Destruction form.
I personally just saw this as a great opportunity for them to strategize together with instant transmission. Whoever they are fighting again, Goku and Vegeta could start to swap places when Goku is about to get hit amping up the Ultra Instinct and Alter Ego all at once. This may make them more formidable than any fusion ever did.
Vegeta: YES! I've finally achieved the ultimate power! Tien: Hmph, more like the Ultra Ego.... Vegeta: F*CK OFF TRI-CLOPS Yamcha: Dude, you know how hard he can destroy you at this point, why are you STILL antagonizing him? Tien: Doesn't matter. *He knows how this game works...*
Awesome video you guys never disappoint. Hopefully gohan gets his due. I wonder what his path to new power would look like? A bigger bang? Only a bang? OK maybe not. Mohawk maybe? Since the Supreme Kai's all have Mohawks?
I think the name “Ultra Ego” is perfect for someone like Vegeta. Sure, it sounds silly, but it works for how he acts both out of the form and especially in the form
Nah I ain't calling it that. I don't think he'll ever say that name again, and I don't think Ultra Ego was meant to be took seriously lol. Vegeta was just messing around. It's really just his God Of Destruction form.
The explanation was hard to get at first cuz of no context but after you slid in the context I instantly got what you were trying to convey. Nice stuff man, keep up the good work.
I think ultra ego may actually in a sense represent both ego itsself and super ego. Super ego is essentially the inner voice that guides and informs you beyond base instinct and impulse. Its about what you've learned about the society you are part of, and is sort of a voice conscious of that. Vegeta has over the last few arcs shown great remorse in his former actions, having learned from Goku and the earthlings, absorbing their lessons and having informed himself with their points of view. Think about this form vs some other powers he'd gotten. Super Vegeta back in the day for instance. He is doing a lot less showboating. a lot less prideful boasting. He refers to trying to beat sense into Granolah as tough love, he tests to see how far gone Granolah is by seeing if he'll destroy his own peoples ruins. These aren't the actions of someone ruled JUST by ego. He is absolutely loving the combat, and getting deep in the paint, but for his comment about not having anyone here to care about hurting, not having to worry about collateral damage... he is repeatedly in trying to tease some humanity (well... cearlealanity? ) out of Granolah. Thats sort of.... Vegetas arc it seems. He used to destroy willy nilly, but now that he is learning to become a destroyer god, he is choosing to do it responsibly. choosing to be a better kind of destroyer than Beerus. He wants to destroy "Evil" only if he absolutely needs to, because he sees himself in Granolah. Honestly the "Ego" related aspects of the form seem to be the most basal layer and a deeper inspection shows something closer to super ego. Even the name indicates that. If super ego overrides ego, what goes above super ego? why Ultra Ego.
The Ego transformation being focused on self gratification from battle and the Instinct form being based on letting go with one’s lust for battle and not thinking - letting the body move on its own is a GREAT contrast imo. The Ego form’s name makes 100% sense and I like how brutal it was. It almost looked evil
I’d like for you to make an updated color theory video on Ultra Ego and Ultra Instinct soon. I loved your initial video comparing each Super Saiyan form to different states of mind and chakras!
@@beanieboi7743 i don't even count it as an L just the momentum shift again the fight is gonna end after this chapter though I estimate they won't fight the entire chapter of 76
Honestly, in many cases this is a win. Not an absolute win, but Vegeta finally stood his own ground, and fought a more powerful person to a standstill. That sort of outcome would not be done before then, or at least only the Namek saga where Vegeta blinded Zarbon.
Masako, I think I'm gonna be eternally grateful for your videos. You have given me a few ideas for my doctoral thesis. I'm gonna start my research right away. Thank you very much indeed.
FINALLY! THANK YOU! Every other discussion of Ultra Ego I've seen, not a single person brought up the psychology aspect that could've gone into the name!
What I like about ultra instinct and ultra ego is that these transformations are related to back to what whis describes both sayians. Vegeta thinks too much and goku doesn't think enough. Instinct is automatic and requires no thought while ego is all about the indulgent of battle and being in control of a beserking power.
Then shouldn't Vegeta have learned Ultra Instinct since he needs to be in the here and now? And Goku should've learned something like Ultra 'Analysis' where he does start thinking.
@@colegillgrass3373 It exaggerates their flaws not complement them. Goku doesn't have to think and Vegeta...I guess he can still think while he's getting beat up
The Gohan "Super Ego" connection also works on the level of him not being as strong later in the series as he was then, his "Ideal Self" has evolved, from being a warrior and hero to being parent and husband: notably, he accepts his loss of power without shame, as his priorities have changed.
Also, unlike Goku and Vegeta, who generally did what they wanted and may have had morals but morals centered around fighting and Saiyan pride and whatever recruitment thing Goku wants, Gohan is very clearly humanly moral. His big moment was defeating Cell, after realizing Cell would destroy what he held dear and Earth. He also cares about a well-balanced life, bring to mind Aristotelian morals in well-rounded and seeking to practice morals. He is clearly nice and approachable. The problem is that when he thinks he has the upper hand in everything he lets go so hard. But then again, a representative of the superego only cares about morals and what’s right, thus why he only fights when the world is endangered once again. In short, how Gohan conducts himself aligns nicely with him aligning to the superego.
I guess there were two reasons for SSB Evolution to exist: 1. To symbolize how Vegeta does care about those around him and how he'd do everything in his power to protect them 2. Give Vegeta his version of Goku's SSB+ Kaioken×20
Thank you so much for digging deep into these stories! I really appreciate your efforts and although the true details of your research can truly only be appreciated by the few intellectually minded I can reassure you that your work is very special and unique in our hearts. Thank you for making all the connections and taking the time to provide all the wonderful supporting data. Even though the authors of Super may not be taking their story crafting framework from psychological concepts I can fully appreciate how you are making such beautiful parallels. I think you would be a Supreme Dragon Ball Super writing director who would make these characters ooze with intriguing depth and satisfying symbolic significance.
This video has given me a whole new way to look at Dragonball transformations as a whole. I always believed that UE and UI were complete opposites but this only further cements my thoughts. Keep up the great work! Also UE is now EASILY my favorite transformation in all of Dragonball.
We just know the full connection for "self" will happen when Vegeta is a complete God of Desturction and Goku is a perfectly mastered UI and they make the perfect fusion.
Well said. I've been noticing these themes as well. I'm really excited seeing it play out. This whole dynamic of the super story is looking really well thought out these last few arcs. I like that the seeds of the idea that is the instinct states was heavily foreshadowed early in the super run. It's a great time to be a dragon ball fan right now .
I love that these theories help me learn obscure things while still making sense, well until I try to explain it to someone and sound like a crazy person
Love it love love it. Vegeta gets a new form distinct for him but with actual unique traits and it stands out for him in a cool way. Ever since they reset his character in super/BoG, I was hoping they'd push his character in an interesting way. So for once seeing him tapping into his pride and vices for a benefit is pretty cool. But he still also gotta control and manage it so he doesn't leave himself open, vs ultra instinct which just kind of sprays your blood/energy everywhere violently after a certain time limit. Oh and the brows are the best part you know its true
Would love to see a chapter where Ui and Ue try to fuse but it either just doesn't flat out work (due to the conflict between Ego and Id theory) or have the fusion result in something completely different or wrong. Maybe needing a Superego counterpart to complete the fully realized Self of the new fusion? 👀
If I may give it a try. Ultra Instict is like when you reach that "flow" state in sport or what ever it is you do. Ultra Ego is that ultra focus you get when something goes wrong and you have to course correct deliberately under immense stress 🤷♂️ Something like that.
@@MasakoX the technique just need little movement just focus and clear mind. Beerus never have expression and move neccesary if needed. Vegeta just focused on training granolah not fighting. He is out of focus.
Thank you for this video Masako! I did give in and see earlier spoiler vids, but they just don't have the same quality analytics and mostly just wanted to complain about Vegeta. I had never thought that Vegeta was trying to ge thru to him. Now it just seems to make more sense for who he has become. It was a nice video thank you.
Vegeta just got the biggest upgrade , this transformation is awesome and the action too hell yeah , in few ways i think its better than ultra instinct but still man those dodges of ultra instinct ahh they are just on another level man
"As old as time itself by now" - Time itself is younger than me. Now I really feel old. So, if Ultra Ego is a not-Saiyan specific power, and you get stronger from getting hit in the face. Is it finally Kriller time?
They should make a spinoff called Dragon Ball B. Because it focus on the B-Team. Tien, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Launch, & Krillin. They take on the lesser threats. Go on their own adventures. Fight their own villains.
There are so many RUclipsrs bashing this form, saying it failed and Vegeta's training was for nothing. It's nice to see you go deeper into this form and actually give it a chance. I personally like how Ultra Ego is the opposite of Ultra Instinct. It's like an energizing tank compared to a glass canon. The fight with Granolah isn't over as well, so we'll see what else Ultra Ego Vegeta can do.
Everyone who has watched Digimon understood why it was called Mega instinct in Spanish, seeing as how the mega digivolution is stronger than the ultimate, or ultra digivolution
11:50 Potential Unleashed wasn’t a Kai path though. Elder Kai was only able to do it after fusing with the witch. That’s why it took a whole magic ritual instead of placing a hand on Gohan’s head. The Kai path is still unknown to us.
I have mixed feelings about it. We were lead to believe that for many years UI was supposed to be the end goal. It was proven to be superior multiple times when Whis used it on Beerus and when Beerus used a version of it fighting the other gods. It's only recently been mentioned that Hakai power can rival UI. I still think it's Toryama way of ensuring Vegeta stays 2nd to Goku.
If nothing else, now they are true rivals. Each pursue a different power that brings them just as powerful as each other. It is not one-sided like in Z but it is not still catch-up. These are truly equal and separate powers, wielded by two people with different philosophies but are just as good at fighting.
I can't remember the show making us believe ui was the end goal. At best it was just shown as a goal for goku to reach. So was super saiyan. Basically, it's dragon ball, there will always be stronger stuff. Ui itself isn't a special technique. There are way better techniques to have than it. That's not to say UE is special either.
Plus, it seems that Goku and Vegeta are starting to become equals with different powers starting the end of the Universe Survival Saga (Royal Blue/first Perfect Ultra Instinct)
When you realize, despite these crazy new forms, the final battle of Dragonball could never be Goku vs Vegeta... Because people would complain its ripping off Hokuto no Ken.
Actually that's not all the way true because in Dragonball online a game that Toriyama worked on there is a actual Final Battle between Goku and Vegeta. I do wish they would canonize that battle when dragonball moves on to the next generation.
Ego... After Zen and Eckart Tolle, ego is not what one should call the true self. It is a program, which tries to convince with thoughts that itself is the true you. Those who identify with it, strengthen it, which gains a greater foothold on the internal observer, which is us. If traumata are present, aware or unaware, the ego will project all those externally without any regard to the wellbeing of the others. If anything, the ego is a bad master, but a excellent teacher in showing who you are not. As for Ultra Ego, it feels more approciate to call it Ultra Clarity, where the internal observer and consciousness, is not obstructed in what they wish to do and make it happen.
You know, that part at 10:24 got me thinking. Isn't that somewhat like the Sparking Joy transformation you came up with some time ago? Some similarities do seem to pop out to me, though it has been some time since I rewatched that video.
I've just been rewatching Super. Destroyer energy is purple, which is the same color as Vegeta's original color scheme on his energy attacks (Garlic gun! haha). I'm sure you guys have seen the connection already and maybe I missed the connection in a video or something, but because of those videos I actually looked at the color scheme. Freeza's power beams are also purple or pinkish purple, which that was the other theory of the "new god of Destruction", so it kinda still plays into the theory of color scheme. Just making connections with your color scheme videos. As always, enjoy your videos even if I don't comment.
Another psychological impact you could deduce from their chosen methods of transformation. It was always assumed that Goku’s main love was fighting, but this could move that motivation to Vegeta, and now Goku’s motivation is purely winning. After all, if he wins a fight with UI, but he wasn’t conscious of the moves he was making, was it truly him that fought?
I was thinking the same thing about Mystic Gohan. It boggles my mind abd lowkey upsets me how much wasted potential for exploration dbz had in the realms of all of this, with Gohan especially
The stuff you said about Ego makes a lot of sense with not just Vegeta, but Beerus as well. If you go back to battle of gods, Beerus is having the time of his life, to the point where he almost looks manic, it really makes a lot of sense that Vegeta acts the same sort of way.
Interesting theory, possibly canon for sure, but there are a couple holes. In both the show and manga, it's made clear Beerus was pursing Ultra Instinct. The manga may have retconned this concept before you did with the lines before Vegeta's training, but being a true counterpart to UI conflicts with that. The other detail is with the kais, though again potentially an issue with the series rather than the channel. While the grand supreme kai and gohan fit well, nearly all the other Kais we've seen (i.e. Gowasu, Shen, Elder Kai) are very different.
Not gonna lie, I was getting MAJOR Kenpachi Zaraki vibes from this chapter. I love the concept of bruiser type of warrior that forgoes all defense and gets stronger and wilder as they take damage and are just having the time of their life during a fight.

Goku's tendency to let his guard down, and Vegeta's tendency to "overthink")
Geets' GoD mode combined with his forced spirit fission is a dangerous combo...
THIS
UE reminds me of that scene where Vegeta tried to attain Ultra Instinct.
Of course he does! That ego is fitting for the Prince of all Sayans! It would be disappointing if he didn’t take pride in his ego.
"Yo, fancy eyes. Your tragic backstory is not so special... My people have been gone since 1988, chapter 195, sunshine."
"N- Nani?!"
It’s not over yet, plenty but chapters to come.

FINALLY!

I guess there were two reasons for SSB Evolution to exist:
1. To symbolize how Vegeta does care about those around him and how he'd do everything in his power to protect them
2. Give Vegeta his version of Goku's SSB+ Kaioken×20
Be careful letting Vegeta dream without supervision. XD
Vegetas new form is complete offense with little regard for defense and I love that

This is by far the best explanation of UE I have ever heard.
This new form is perfect for vegeta. And the name of it fits everything that vegeta. While I don’t like the name it’s amazing for vegeta
They should make a spinoff called Dragon Ball B. Because it focus on the B-Team. Tien, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Launch, & Krillin. They take on the lesser threats. Go on their own adventures. Fight their own villains.
Oh yeah, good ol' Veggie :)
I mean it still is. Goku has far from mastered ultra instinct.
1:07 I call that as "Super Saiyan Royal Blue" which is fitting for Vegeta, the Prince of Saiyans.
Isn't his aura purple now?
Funnily enough, if one observes the ego by being in the lookout for thoughts, there will be no thoughts. The head will be empty.
I want the real name of the form cause ultra ego sucks
We hope to convince you otherwise. If not, fair enough :)
@@MasakoX hopefully
I don't think it even has a real name. It's just really his God Of Destruction power.
You know, that part at 10:24 got me thinking.
Isn't that somewhat like the Sparking Joy transformation you came up with some time ago? Some similarities do seem to pop out to me, though it has been some time since I rewatched that video.
Ohhhhh....that's a good point.
Incredible deduction! Subbed.
Great video man i subbed like two weeks ago i love the content.
Wow these transformations are crazy
Not gonna lie, I was getting MAJOR Kenpachi Zaraki vibes from this chapter. I love the concept of bruiser type of warrior that forgoes all defense and gets stronger and wilder as they take damage and are just having the time of their life during a fight.
Awesome video!
