My mom is a huge George fan and she went to one of his last concerts. There was a rumor afterwards that he would be at a specific bar, but my mom didn't think anything of it so she went someplace different. 30 mins after she arrived, her fiancée taps her shoulder and whispered, "hey look, its george" He came and sat right next to her and she says he was the most polite, kind person she's ever met.
Yea, created WHAM, together, he encouraged George, said you can do it, so George tried, and off they went! Together. THANKS to friendship.SO Kool, so right..l❤😂
What blew me away is that so many UK Singers almost always met in School. The Beatles, Banarama, Duran Duran, Tears For Fears and of course them. In The Netflix Documentary, nobody wanted to show George The Ropes. How they regret it now. Also he still sings all the way to the Bank since Careless Whisper, Nothing Compares 2U and Every Breath You Take are still played all over the world.
What's so sad is that Shirley, Pepsi and DC Lee aren't in this video. They are also showing that they accomplished in four years. No other group especially a duo did what they did in such a short period.

This like a transitional video We were getting the end of Wham and the beginning of The infamous Faith Era of George Michael Like he had the Faith Era look but still reppin Wham style of music
They had already announced they were breaking up and they had a farewell gig at Wembley stadium a few weeks after filming this. That was June 1986, I was at the show. They had widely publicised the fact this would be their last song, hence the 'goodbye' and 'thank you' and the end of this video. I remember news reports in early 1986 that said Wham's management company had merged with a South African firm, this was the height of apartheid in the country, sports teams wouldn't go there and many businesses across the world refused to deal with South African companies. Wham! were very angry and this contributed to their break up.
In truth it was George Michael who was really upset and decided to fire their management team; GM was making all the decisions for Wham! for years for obvious reasons: he did all the work and Andrew is the first to admit it. Later at some point, Andrew said that he didn't think Simon Napier-Bell (part of that management team) didn't lie about knowing it was a South African firm and GM said in interviews, he had met the team in person and really wanted the truth and believed he was not told the truth so he fired them. Later, Napier-Bell (who really was a snake in the grass) lied and said Wham! only broke up because GM and Andrew had had a huge blow out - which, clearly, they hadn't. Napier-Bell was just trying to save his own skin having sold to an apartheid supporting company.
@@LeeThrough That's interesting. I remember Simon Napier-Bell saying on a TV show some years later that Andrew gave George the confidence to do what he did, so he was vital to the creation and success of Wham. I don't think many fans thought the reason the duo split was because of a blow-out between them, I remember George and Andrew hugging at the end of the farewell gig at Wembley Stadium - I also remember many fans holding up banners saying "George and Andrew forever!" at the gig. George's longtime friend and collaborator David Austin performed with Wham at the show aswell, I remember George saying at the gig that the two of them used to busk at Leicester Square Tube station in the days prior to Wham forming - I think David Austin played guitar on both of Wham's albums, Andrew's role was quite minimal as far as musicianship went. I remember it was a very hot sunny day, the day of the Wham farewell gig in June 1986, I remember the first support act was Nick Hayward, previously a member of the band Haircut 100; the next support act was Gary Glitter - he of course became infamous later and is currently in jail, but no one was aware of his badness back then. I remember he wore a silver suit and threw roses into the crowd. There may have been a third support act but I can't recall. It was an enjoyable gig.

My flat was directly opposite Twickenham Film Studios and this was recorded on a hot night and I was looking right through the huge studio doors (about 20 metres from my bedroom window) at this being filmed. The recording was started earlier in the day and was played maybe a hundred times and unfortunately I had to be in my car at 5.30am to drive to Heathrow to catch a flight to Paris for work. I called the studio at about 11pm and asked if they could reduce volume and that lasted about 5 minutes then I called the police at midnight. A single policeman arrived in an Austin Metro, and after about 10 minutes of quiet it was up at full volume again until about 1.00am. I am devastated and heartbroken over the news of the beautiful George Michael, music will never be the same as it was. You're now on the edge of heaven George and it was way too early for you, truly heartbroken, your music will never die, and I intend to show our generation as much of this amazing music as I can. George Michael what a beautiful voice, and a lovely soul. Wham and many other greats of the 80's, it was a great time to be growing up. Really miss that time. R.I.P GEORGE MICHAEL ❤️👍🙏✨️
This was my favorite Wham song . I was fortunate to to see them in concert when they passed through town. I like to watch videos of George dancing I prefer to think of him dancing somewhere.
He said he was a "fat kid with spots & thick glasses", but grew up, lost the weight, his acne cleared up, got contacts & his sister (a stylist) did his hair. I can attest to the fact that he was MORE handsome in person. I saw him in concert with Great seats & that close.....wow!
What a smasher of a song; to me - one of best pop songs ever; so much good happening in it: the bass line, the lyrics, the chorus, the intro, the drum fill-ins; 37 years since I heard it, and there hasn't been a week I wouldn't play it, hear it or at least hum it.
I haven't listened to this song this much since 86 for real...Lifelong Wham! fan here but the excellent Netflix doc renewed/reawakened my love for them RIP George and thank you Andrew!!
This is one of his best songs. His lyrics, music and orchestration are absolutely flawless. The lyrics express everything that someone would want to say in that kind of passionate turbulent one sided relationship and music just blows it away with it's bitter tortured cynical whiplash melody and rhythm to its angry slap in the face conclusion. Wow. Just amazing. One of the four greatest pop artists of the 70's 80's period. What an incredible beautiful voice!
Flawless voice, lyrics, stage performance, editing, band performance, sound... when I want the 80's Pop, I want it undiluted, and this is it. Behold genius!
Honestly speaking.. George was a uncontrollable ,uncontainable force in human form!! His songwriting from the beginning to end was impeccable. I don’t think anyone could duplicate what he did in Wham! In the 4 years together. Actually.. If Jesus was hidden in plain sight.. He’d be a A Pop legend ‼️❤️Rest in love George 🥹❤️‼️
I was lucky enough to deal roulette to George Michael many years ago when he came in with his sister and friends,if only he knew how big a part he has played in all of our lives and how much we will always love him ❤️
So much energy in his performance, and what an amazing voice! You can tell he enjoys performing. He was born to be a performer. He gave us the gift of his talent. Love you George - R.I.P
George said in the docu: "Nobody listen to the lyrics" He is absolutely right, the text never got through to me as a non-English speaker, but realize the same was true for many native English speakers. All I sang along was "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Take me to the Ege of Heaven...." The melody (the atmosphere) is really nice (love it!❤) but the lyrics are sooo not me! So contradictory!
roy jurich, sad thing is today’s music has proved to be hopeless on sooooo many levels. Pops over saturated with makeup caked divas with over excessive vocal Olympia runs, “Lil” tattooed faced Bastard mumble rappers who wish they could rhyme, and fashionable speed mentalist. It’s pathetic and tragic. The 80’s are alive and well in my home, and always will be.
I dare not imagine the nostalgia that Andrew Ridgeley feels in watching these videos... How will he feel... He was so young... Many of those years have passed and moreover, he has also lost his dear friend with whom he made great music and trod the scenes from the 80's... Great Whams! 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖
Wham! A supergroup. They started with a bang and ended with a bang and in the process gave joy to so many people around the world. I was one of them... getting that pure energy listening through a tape recorder almost regularly after coming back from college in suburban Mumbai, India. Thank you Yog and Andy. Your music will always remain immortal and your friendship will be cherished by many. Take a bow!
This was one of their best ever songs. It came out just before they split up. George Micheal was already doing solo songs by the time this song came out in 1986.

Wham!'s last single it was, shooting straight into the UK charts at number 2 in June 1986 and then going to number 1. By that time George had had two solo number 1s,with Careless Whisper in 1984 and A Different Corner a bit earlier in 1986.

the amount of hits he had was insane , what a talent , great singer , song writer , good looks , he had it all
soundbreak7 I
Think you have just described Prince
@@Garylpool1And also George Michael? Your point
George Michael what a beautiful voice, and a lovely soul. Wham and many other greats of the 80's, it was a great time to be growing up. Really miss that time. R.I.P GEORGE MICHAEL ❤️👍🙏✨️
I still love Wake Me Up. When I swing dance it with my girl, it never gets old.
RIP George Michael, your music influenced a generation!! Hope you and Prince are really at the Edge of Heaven.
RIP George Michael... Your talent and your voice is simply not replaceable.
This was my favorite Wham song . I was fortunate to to see them in concert when they passed through town. I like to watch videos of George dancing I prefer to think of him dancing somewhere.
His Style, His Mentality, His Melody🔥🔥🔥🔥George Is Life in my Book In My Eye Sight🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👍🏽👍🏽👌🏽👏🏽
He was born to be a superstar. Just look at his amazing charisma. RIP GM. Love you forever.
It helps that he was ridiculously good looking!
Being a superstar was a hell for him and ultimately what killed him. So maybe not?
And the most important thing: his amazing voice and talent.
Fact: in 1986, George Michael was the coolest man on planet Earth!
yes
Nah. That was me I can assure you 😉
More like the hottest :D
Still ❤
Fire up the Delorean, we're heading back to when George ruled the airwaves and life made sense.
pick me up !!!!! i am packed and ready to go
first customer
So great ! I miss you
I’m in but let’s make sure we don’t see a 5 year old me 😂
mind picking me up?
Such energy and still sounds so fresh and George..well I'm speechless ❤
Some people are just unforgettable. George is one of those. Still cant believe he's gone.
This is one of my favourites. Will never forget you George
Beyond compare.
George Michael. God was in a GREAT mood when He wrote this man's physical dna code! I've never seen a prettier man in all my life.
Handsome sensitive sexy polite talent such a gorgeus human beautiful soul.Thank you George.
He said he was a "fat kid with spots & thick glasses", but grew up, lost the weight, his acne cleared up, got contacts & his sister (a stylist) did his hair. I can attest to the fact that he was MORE handsome in person. I saw him in concert with Great seats & that close.....wow!
George Michael and Don Johnson ruled the 80's
In this clip, George radiants some sort of energy that I can't really name, but I want it no matter what it is.
Magic
Joy!
SAME
Very self assured. Attractive trait to have.
He is lovin it!
Shame we never got that Wham reunion, but these guys went out with a bang with this classic
I have learned that he was 💯 in charge of the production of his music. He was a perfectionist. It shows!!!
George was young happy and so full of life
And friggin hot ❤️❤️❤️
I wish kids nowwa dayz would be like that too!
Kids ? Why ?
Love him dearly xx
happy people have a mask ... it's called ... sadness, sorrow, pain
Flawless voice, lyrics, stage performance, editing, band performance, sound... when I want the 80's Pop, I want it undiluted, and this is it. Behold genius!
And...Supermodel.......... 🕊
I miss the '80's
This is how I will always remember him. Beautiful beautiful beautiful.
When he raises his arms and says "I'd lock you up". Omg chills.
Love & miss you, Gorgeous Georgy! Continue to RIHP!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We'll miss you, george. One of the faces and voices of the eighties and nineties.
Take me back to the 80's. I don't want to be here. RIP lovely George.
Understand.❤😊❤😂🎉❤
I was lucky enough to deal roulette to George Michael many years ago when he came in with his sister and friends,if only he knew how big a part he has played in all of our lives and how much we will always love him ❤️
In complete awe. GENIUS. George Michael the Beloved.
Wham's final hoorah!! It was surprising when they disbanded. But hey this launched George Michael's career into the stratosphere. Miss ya George 😔
I still can't say Goodbye to George.
Can't stop my tears
Even now, a few years after he died, I still cry when I hear his song. I can't talk about my youth without him.
I miss you George.…
Why, were you struck dumb?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🐿🔫
He's not gone he's just not here to accept more praise from us
He is here with us thats why!!💟
So much energy in his performance, and what an amazing voice! You can tell he enjoys performing. He was born to be a performer. He gave us the gift of his talent. Love you George - R.I.P
George said in the docu: "Nobody listen to the lyrics"
He is absolutely right, the text never got through to me as a non-English speaker, but realize the same was true for many native English speakers. All I sang along was "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Take me to the Ege of Heaven...."
The melody (the atmosphere) is really nice (love it!❤) but the lyrics are sooo not me!
So contradictory!
I can't believe this is 30yrs old, time flies. and the 80s were so awesome
roy jurich, sad thing is today’s music has proved to be hopeless on sooooo many levels.
Such a loss to music is George. Im into Heavy Metal, but i still love his music.
I dare not imagine the nostalgia that Andrew Ridgeley feels in watching these videos... How will he feel... He was so young... Many of those years have passed and moreover, he has also lost his dear friend with whom he made great music and trod the scenes from the 80's... Great Whams! 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖
Yeah, but what memories and he seems a happy enough man these days.
At his best again, what a star.. sadly missed.
George is just gorgeous, the best looking man i've ever seen. Truly. Such a intriguing mix of handsome, shy, cheeky, naughty and funny, he had it all, and fame ultimately destroyed this amazing man.
I agree, he had a ball with Wham!
He looks so lush here once u looked at him u can’t stop he was so gorgeous x
YOU LEFT OUT SMART, HUMBLE, KIND, & TALENTED!!!!!!!
@@reddiva1544 He was every thing a woman wanted in a man. Beautiful, talented, funny, kind, had a great work ethic, shy, down to earth, rebel, lastly adored his mother with all his heart!!!!!?
Larry Giddins so tru in everything u’ve just sed, Freedom was the first ever record i brought on vinyl bak in the day, will never forget that n i still got my Wham Scrapbook i’m 50 now lol 😌💖💖
My 3 and 5 years kids and me are listening it every day and even now
George Michael was a very generous man, he gave away a lot of his wealth to the poor
I CAN'T STOP listening to this song!!! Definitely top 3 of my favorite George songs EVER!!! What an electric man he was!!! Wish I could've seen him live just once!
I did in 88 and 91. Had a great time.
@@holdenmcgroin9774 Awww... JEALOUS! ;-)
I went to wham the final in 86 and saw George again 87…x
No. One is Jesus to a child
@@jwilk1281 which "one" is Jesus to a child??? :D haha -Did you mean to put a period between "no" and "one"? ;-)
Not sure what you're trying to say here, but if you're referring to that song, read through the lyrics before you comment on it!!!
Most upbeat, cheerful and lively song EVER. The happiness for life is this.
George died at 57. The same as me. He was from Bushy High. We were a room school rivals . I still miss him.
Valuable life lesson 1 : Don't trust a person who doesn't like Wham... carry on x
Haha,exactly 😁
😂😂😂😂😂
@@barbaraeden1877 if you don't like my George👉 I'll lock you up & I'll tie you down.👺👹
@@sakikpatel8221 What r u talking about?!? I laughed because I thought your statement was funny u know a joke ha ha ha...maybe u should of worded it different if u wonted it 2 come across as something else.. dont jump 2 conclusions I am a die hard Wham and especially George fan 💖 u have no idea what he means 2 me 😪

This is my all time favorite wham song , I feel happy every time I hear it 😀😀😀
GOD BLESS GEORGE WHAT AN ASTONISHING GUY SO UNIQUE JUST LUV THIS.
He was dripping with sex appeal and such a caring and talented soul. Miss you always George!
Wham forever ! 🙏❤️❤️
He is not on the edge of heaven anymore, he is in heaven.
Most Definitely, Rest In Heaven Dear George. :( :(
absolutely
Exactly where he belongs for bringing so much joy to so many people the world over. I just wish he had had a happier life... He had fame and money but he didn't have an easy life and in his later years you could sense his unhappiness. He was constantly looking for an escape...
Im afraid there is no heaven
there is heaven ., you see how many araps with 5-10kg explosives went to heaven with 69 or 96 virgins
They were 10 years my senior and I just remember always having a huge crush on them, especially Andrew (still do)! The dynamic duo❤ no voice compares to GM.
Yes, Andrew.... He was so beautiful to watch, nice guy inside too.❤
Bless you George, Now your singing in Heaven ❤🙏😇
I was 16 years old when this video came out and I clearly remember the rumors swirling around the media saying Wham! was on the verge of breaking up and felt a knot in my stomach knowing their music was coming to an end....then George kept the great music going...thank you George Michael for the soundtrack to my life that will carry me on for the rest of my life/ Rest In Peace Eternally Prince Of Pop. ❤️
Wham!'s last single it was, shooting straight into the UK charts at number 2 in June 1986 and then going to number 1. By that time George had had two solo number 1s,with Careless Whisper in 1984 and A Different Corner a bit earlier in 1986.
Listening in 2024! Classic. RIP GM
I keep coming back to watch this video and George, oh and the close up butt shot. Drool. It is so sad how much talent and light he had and took away from us when he left us. 😭
I literally only discovered how great Wham! is today! And THEY ARE AMAZING!!! I LOVE THEM, so sad that George passed away, forever in the nation's heart, love to Andrew! ❤
This almost makes me cry as I've been a huge fan since 1984 lol...l'm guessing this is due to the Netflix doc but no matter the source, I love hearing about people discover great music for the first time!
Been a fan since make it big, got this album for my 12th birthday in ‘86….
Ya-ya-ya, god that stuck for a long time, kept singing it, even when mom and dad asked for something to be done(response..ya-ya-ya) only a 12 year old…..love wham!!!
This brings back so many memories!
Then welcome to the world we grew up in. Enjoy....it was a fantastic time and George and Andrew were part of the top tier
Not only did George pass away, but also Deon Estus (he plays the bass here), a frequent collaborator of the band. Let's enjoy our 80s icons while we still have them around...
Shame we never got that Wham reunion, but these guys sure went out with a bang.
George had everything! He was gorgeous looking, talented,a great musician, a wonderful singer,an incredible dancer.Look at his energy!!!!He conquers the scene. He owns it!!!!!!!Love him forever and ever!!!!!!
So true he was spectacular
Couldn't agree more! This form a hetro male
A man who wanted to be great. . A man who became far greater than he ever thought he would be.
George is simply brilliant. I know this.
MY FAVES: WAKE ME UP, FREEDOM, LAST CHRISTMAS, IM YOUR MAN AND THIS TRACK. PLUS THE TWO SOLO HITS, CARELESS WHISPER, AND A DIFFERENT CORNER. RIP GEORGE AND THANKS FOR THE MUSIC WHAM ❤
Favorite Wham song. They look like they were having so much fun!
Shawn smith That's exactly what I thought. I recently read an interview where George said this and I'm your man were his favorite videos that he did in Wham days but he was absolutely miserable when he did both of them. Well hell he could have fooled me and did. What a performer as in both videos he looked like he was having the time of his life and he was great actually Sublime!
No one ever talks about what a great lyricists Michael was. I have his signature somewhere in the attic and possibly the 7inch vinyl record of this single.
Don't you tell me lies, because believe me baby
One day you'll wake up on your own. Fantastic lyrics!
WHEN THE MUSIC BE GLORIOUS.....THE KING OF POP IN UK....
This is one of my all time favourite clips of George. We may be sad he is no longer with us, but also thank God he shared his immense talent with us. Love you George.
U guys rocking 2 these songs 2day too?! Merry Christmas All! RIP George hope ur in heaven singing with the others in God's Glory 🙏
Sebastian Dax , rocking out to this tune constantly. It's like fine wine. It gets better with age.
many 80s songs remind me of when i was a teenager. but only Wham! songs make me feel like my soul is still there in the 80s.
I wasn’t even around in the 80’s, but this takes me back lol 😅
George. Miss you and the Great Music you left behind for us to Cherish forever.
