I rode both yesterday and the hunter 350 , and I did own an interceptor previously, my thoughts are , Meteor 650 touring , Shotgun 650 is a hybrid of the interceptor and hunter , and for me it was the sweet spot 😊
Thank-you for explaining the differences between the meteor & the shotgun .models! I'm getting ready to buy the meteor, now, after watching this video-i may have to buy BOTH of them! Each one fills a particular need in my riding experience! Doug, in the U.S.🇺🇸🦅
@Teacher-T-Thailand I would love to have a second bike for a loaner. If I was going to buy a second bike it would probably be eatheir a Himalayan or a meteor 350. I think it would be cool to have the smaller version of my current Supper meteor. Pluss you can get them with an army green tank.
As an owner of the super meteor you gave a great comparison between them both. Thanks for the review. I'm selling my BMW f800 and my Aprilia twin to purchase the shotgun. Older age has forced the issue.
As I previous Super Meteor owner, now a Shotgun owner I can reliably inform you the suspension is not the same. The Shotgun has longer travel. I measured it because I bought some Hagon shocks and was going to swap them on to the Shotgun but they came up short by at least an inch.
How interesting. They really did look the same to me, but of course I did not measure them. It did feel a much more softer ride. How are you finding it? The Hagon shocks come in 290mm and 310mm. The original Meteor 650 shocks are 310mm. I have opted for the 290mm to try and lower the bike for me at the same time. Could you measure your rear shocks for me? 🙏
Your the only reviewer to point out the seat and suspension issues regarding the Super Meteor, i bought a Super Meteor and ended up having dry needling to repair the damage done to my lower back and bottom, courtesy of the utterly terrible seat and suspension. I live in Adelaide Australia the roads aren't the best but that seat, it's a torture device.
I say it as it is. But I’m getting a lot of hate for it on my recent Himalayan review. My seat is a lot better on the Meteor since I did my modification to it. Not for the faint hearted though. And today I will fit and test the new Hagon shocks and test. I hope you recover soon. And fingers crossed that there may be a solution for a better ride.
huh. i hated the plasma blue color during launched but here i am 3 months later swiping my card for one. somehow it is so unique of a bike and a color, I simply cant compare with other bikes.
As a shotgun owner this May I can easily say its a great head turner as it scores an absolute 100 percent on looks , performance wise not a bad machine at all, high acceleration, easy riding position and you don't feel the weight of driving a 240 kg heavy machine.... The stencil white colour however is my personal favourite
Man, your uploads are a real gem for me. Riding 2 Vulcan 900's now, i want a "friend" for them. Must have: nice design, retro look, nice sound, abs, aloy rims, belt drive.
As a brand new shotgun owner and not having ridden any other royal Enfield. The bike to me seems like a cross between a British twin and Harley Davidson. I love it the brit twin sound and the solidity of a Harley.😊
Ha this is great, I'm going to be taking that bike out in the next couple of weeks, plus the SM 650 Dameralls have so great to see it ridden before I do. Sat on it the other day when I popped in, not too bad considering I'm just under 5'6". Considering upgrading from the Classic 350, so looking forward to this ride even more now, cheers :)
I’m 5’8 and only have an inside leg of 28 inches. I was on tip toe on the Shotgun, but it seemed easier to move more than the Meteor. Please let Simon at Damerells know you’ve seen the video please, as I’m hoping to get another test ride next week of the Himalayan. 😂🙏
as a fellow super meteor owner I love your take on the shot gun. The part about the seat height is very useful. At 6 foot 2 the super meteor is perfect if it was any taller, I think it would be awkward for me. I have come to absolutely love the slightly foot forward position of the foot pegs, so far if I had to choose again, I would still get the super meteor. in the U.S.A the price difference between the two bikes is only 100 USD, I figure that the savings is from not having the panner rack installation points on the rear fender.
Great review sir, my SM only has 400 miles on it, mostly city riding, my dealer has been repeatedly trying to get me to test ride the shotgun, in hopes of me buying it. I love my SM too much to trade. I’m more of a cruiser guy, I had an INT 650 traded in for my SM, it took a minute to get used to the different foot position, I prefer the feet forward position. Thanks for the review.
I love my SM650 also. Even though it’s a hard ride sometimes. I love the relaxed forward peg position. And the bike turns heads everywhere I go. Thank you. Ride safe 🙏
I also think the mid controls on the Shotgun improve the ride significantly too. With your feet forward, all the weight is concentrated on your tail bone. With mid controls, the shock from bumps is pushed up through your body's core instead. When parts become available, I'll probably fit the mid controls set up to my Super Meteor.
I see on Sunday me Facebook groups, the move the rear pegs to the mid position, under the side panels. Just for riding position only on open roads. Worth a try to see if you like it or not, before lots of effort or expense. Since my shock change and seat modification everything feels so much better 😁🙏
As a Super Meteor owner I was very impressed with your review, has got to be the best review and explanation in the differences of the two bikes, what a great video. The Shotgun is not my cup of tea but I do like the black engine, shame the Super Meteor hasn't got that as an option. Just subscribed, and looking forward to watching you Super Meteor content 👍
Thank you so much. To be honest I was expecting a boozer feel Meteor. Sadly it wasn't that at all. But it certainly will fit some people who are not cruiser foot peg fans. Thanks for watching 🙏
I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to have 3 days of riding both bikes back to back, which I think I will need as I just can't make my mind up 🤔. Well done Royal Enfield 👍🙏
I didn't get either in the end, didn't like the Shotgun at all I'm sorry to say. In the end I bought a CFMoto 700MT as I needed something that my partner and I could take touring across Europe and the Super Meteor just didn't cut it. Had the cfmoto for 9 weeks with 7000km on the clock and it handles better than any bike I've ever owned.
I did like the Shotgun. It rode really well, with lots of power. I hope you enjoy it too. The Classic 650 will be interesting. If they get the looks as good or better than the 350, then it will be a contender for me also.
I've heard from subscribers that they are still waiting for the Meteor in Peru and Vietnam! Indians are out of my price range in Thailand. Can buy a house cheaper. But something I would like to aspire to one day. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer 🙏
Hi, thanks for the tips. I wouldn't go for the shotgun following your review. I don't like the weight on my arms and I like the laid-back ride of the super meteor. Cheers.
Thanks for the video friend! Here in Brazil, both models are about to arrive, so you can get an idea you have to put your name on a waiting list. Regarding the models, I'm going with the Supermeteor because for long trips I think it will be more comfortable. hugs from Brazil and good winds friend
The meteor is good. But the rear suspension is terrible for long rides. Watch my video here at 5.40 ruclips.net/video/xeNZ1V_lhKY/видео.htmlsi=haIqoN-bI60ZgtU- Changing the suspension solves the issue. All the best in Brazil. Hope you get one soon 🙏
I would be inclined to fit the Super Meteor deluxe touring dual seat on the Shotgun as I believe all the current accessories for the Super are direct fit
Excellent review, i am looking for a cheap second hand black super meteor 650 to which i will add the shotgun foot controls and i think i will have a real mile muncher. I have 9 Royal Enfield's at present here in Queensland Australia but always have room for one more, My brother has a further 4 including the new Shotgun which i do not like in its standard form. However riding it felt like my 500 Classic with more poke but less style. Love Royal Enfield bikes with endless possibilities.
Thank you. Sounds like you are more of a RE fan more than I am. That would make an interesting video, and a great idea. All the best with it. Looking forward to your results 🙏
Another great video Trevor, thanks for that. I am looking to upgrade from my one cylinder Classic 350 to one of the 650s. I think that the Super Meteor is probably not for me because of the cruiser position. So it would be a choice between the Interceptor, Continental (although slightly sporty / forward posture) or maybe this new Shotgun. When you confirmed that it is not a bobber, that makes the bike seem more appealing to me. But one of the main reasons for me to upgrade from 350 to 650 would be for better long distance touring. And the big question is how to accommodate luggage without totally ruining the bike's appearance? Removing the pillion seat improves the look of the Classic 350 and the Shotgun too. But how to add a rear rack for a dry bag (my preference rather than side bags) without destroying that prominent rear mudguard appearance. Can it be done, I wonder?
Thanks AB. I think you should wait until the new Classic 650 is launched. I have a feeling RE will work their magic and come up with a bike even better looking than the Classic 350. They did with the Meteor. As for panniers, funny you mention that. Hopefully when I return to Thailand soon there should be a set of panniers waiting for me to review. Stay tuned!
Add the pillion seat to the Shotgun. It is a combo with a rack. The rack mounts permanently and the pillion seat pops off when desired with a simple turn of the key.
Got to sit on a Shotgun at the local dealer yesterday. First impression was: this is a very small bike. It felt diminutive for my old 6’ frame. Very nice switch gear. You may have mentioned this in your review but I was surprised at how stiff the seat is. Didn’t really feel terrible, but it’s probably the hardest motorcycle seat. I’ve experienced in my 50 years of riding motorcycles.
Yes it’s hard, but absorbs the bumps from the road very well being a floating seat, Unlike the Meteor 650 where it’s a soft seat, but you feel every bump. One thing I did forget to mention was the small foot pegs. Robbed directly from the Hunter. Too small for that bike in my opinion. Which probably gave you the impression it was a small bike. It’s a winner for many 🙏
@@staffordvideoproductions5788 not as stiff, but doesn’t bottom out any more. Which was the problem I had with the originals. Because every time they bottomed out it was spinal damage.
Thanks, Bro! For tall riders (I have 184 cm), a higher steering wheel is needed. Maybe the Interceptor will fit the Shotgun even better than the Super Meteor.
In uk, Himalayan 450 is also available for test ride. Will u going to review that one also? If you review the Himalayan 450, make sure to change camera antiflickering settings to 50hz or 25fps to avoide screen flickering
For a novice rider I would honestly recommend the 350 J Series bikes. Especially the Meteor 350 or the Classic 350. But out of the 650 range if you are that confident, I would say it all depends on your inside leg. 795mm is top end height for most motorbikes, so the Shotgun is high seated. The Meteor is more relaxed.
Vietnam and Peru don’t even have the Meteor yet according to comments. It’s a shame Thailand is behind so much, especially as they assemble in Thailand now also.
Brilliant. I’ve just done the same, my SM 650 onto a test ride shotgun. What a difference, superb handling, mega light clutch, totally different bike. The answer.. but both it’s still cheaper than a gs. Nice one Royal Enfield. Brilliant.
It looks to me that you can lower the seat mount to get the bobber feel, but not sure how it would affect your reach to the handlebar and how 'destructive' the modification needed will be. (it would also lose the spring effect)
I find it interesting that many Brits call this bike a cheaper bike when they are basically the same price in the U.S. and any parts are the same other than the plating or paint (switch gear). Quality wise they are identical. Also, the rear shocks are not identical. The Shotgun rear shocks are 20mm longer.
Interesting. They certainly,y looked like the same shocks, but did feel so much better. I didn’t measure them. I do think the aluminium finish is better than the black plastic on the control area. And I wasn’t too keen on the small foot pegs robbed from the Hunter. Certain,y a nice bike to ride though 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand black plastic? The switch gear on my Shotgun is Aluminum. Unless you mean the powder coating on them? The Shotgun shocks are 330mm, Super Meteor are 310 (I did measure lol). I do agree with the small foot pegs. That is something that can be resolved though. There is even a set of pegs RE sells that are larger.
Nope. A Bobber is a bike stripped of its unessential parts to make it lighter, and lower seated. The Shotgun is far from light or low seared. It has a bobber look. But not the feel. Still a nice bike though. 🙏
Ha ha. Not enough information. Are you a new rider? I will presume you are. A 650 is too big and powerful in my opinion for a first bike. Get all the mistakes made on a 350 or less first. Less dangerous and survivable 👌🙏
Hi! Im from Brazi. The Super Meteor will start to be sold here in next month. But here we have a lot bad condition roads. Do you think the suspension could be a problem? Thanks!!
Yes ithe rear suspension in the Meteor is very firm, and can bottom out if not set correctly. I will be trialing new aftermarket shocks and making a video soon. One to watch 🙏
@@mauriciodaniele4339 I have an old Honda Steed / Shadow also. But not reliable or fuel efficient enough for long distance. The Meteor is very reliable and safer 🙏
Helpful review thanks. I got rid of my Interceptor because of the pegs catching my legs just as you said, and found the Meteor 650 too heavy so was interested in your comments on the Shotgun. I have no idea what category to put it in really, as you say not a bobber. I think I’m going to stick with the lighter more agile / lean looking BSA Gold Star 650 another year, loving it and nothing seems to be persuading me away from it. Have you tested one yet?
I find oil cooled runs cooler than water cooled in Thailands 40 degrees heat days. But on new bikes the first 500km they do run hot until they loosen up. 🙏
They were not on the bike I test rode. But not difficult to put on the centre stand., having a higher ground clearance compared to the Meteor. Agreed about the raiders ,🙏
Well the rear fender is chopped and it’s a solo seat so that’s a bobber. Bobbers are not cruisers it’s short low bars a chopped or bobbed rear fender and a solo seat.
A traditional bobber is lightweight. Stripped of all un essential parts to make it lightweight. Front fenders removed, side panels removed etc. The Shotgun is far from light. Hence in my opinion not a bobber. But sure, yes it has a bobber look. But not feel or handling. 🙏
The build up and hype about this bike has been amazing. But for short riders like us, it’s very disappointing. The seat height I had was 820mm I believe. There is an 805mm seat available. Make sure you test ride a bike with an 805mm seat height. Even if you can manage it, the bike is still very top heavy. All the best, and good luck. 🙏
Is this bike too heavy for a beginner rider? I'm looking for something that would allow me to flatfoot it(to be a bit more comfy and confident) and sokmething that does not accelerate too quickly. I heard it is quite heavy so I'm having some worries.
Yes it is a heavy bike. And a 650 for a beginner is a big leap of faith. You are much better off with a 350 for a while until you build your confidence and ability. 350 will be lighter, lower and more economical. As well as cheaper to insure 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand what would you say about RE Classic 350? The weight is still around 200kg but .. less bike xD Is that more beginner friendly or still weight fks it?
Ha ha. A good question. At 56 years young, I’ve now evolved to be a cruiser rider. In my younger years, yes I would have swapped. But now approaching my free bus pass, no. I’m happy with my meteor 650 now I have at long last solved the comfort issues. 🙏

I’d choose a super meteor any day. I tried it and it felt like a toy quite honestly. And I loath the design, it looks like it’s been designed by Asda. 😂
How did you feel tired on your arms after 1 hour of driving..this is not a continental gt650, you should be able to drive it all day long without feeling anything related to arms at all..either you have problems some with your arms in general or you were sitting in a position that doesn't fit you..the sit is long enough for all size of people to find the right position
Bearing in mind I was comparing the bike to my Super Meteor 650. Because the rake on the Shotgun is steeper, the handle bars are just that fraction further away. And therefore leaning further forward than my Meteor. I’m used to riding bikes for 10 hours straight thank you 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand i understand what youre saying but there is no pressure on arms at all, so comparing it to anything just isn't necessary..maybe if someone was really short(under 170cm) then it would make senye maybe but you dont seem to be such a short guy..btw I just came back from a 2 days trip(1100km) and I felt zero pain on my arms..the ass starts to hurt after 1.5-2 hours so a break is necessary every 2 hours but zero pain in arms ever on this bike...I'm 183cm btw..
That return to stressed member construction is a huge mistake. The new Himalayan stressed member frame is failing .Jeez all it takes is to put the damn bolt on lower frame rails but Noooo they had to screw things up. You don't dare bolt a sidecar on it. Meanwhile my cheaper lighter more sporty Interceptor is scrambled and has had a sidecar since 800 miles.18,000 miles later it is going strong.
I'm gonna bet it's fine for in-city driving on near perfect pavement. Bad/broken pavement will probably beat your kidneys out and hitting highway speeds on the highway will be uncomfortable after the first few miles. Too light, and unprotected, for highway travel. Budget brakes and suspension.
Too light?! Not at all. At 240kg it’s a heavy bike. And suspension worked a lot better on the Shotgun, because the floating seat also help soften the ride. All was good.
So what? Were you one of those naughty boys that sat at the back of the class and never listened? The whole point of the video was to highlight the differences in the bikes, to help people make an informed decision on which one to purchase. Please write down 10 times, “I must pay attention more in class”.

It’s a winner for many 🙏
Is the suspension still stiff after the shock change?
@@staffordvideoproductions5788 not as stiff, but doesn’t bottom out any more. Which was the problem I had with the originals. Because every time they bottomed out it was spinal damage.
Thanks, Bro! For tall riders (I have 184 cm), a higher steering wheel is needed. Maybe the Interceptor will fit the Shotgun even better than the Super Meteor.
I'm not at tall rider, but even I felt myself leaning forward to reach them. Because the rake angle pushes them further away I suppose 🙏
In uk, Himalayan 450 is also available for test ride. Will u going to review that one also? If you review the Himalayan 450, make sure to change camera antiflickering settings to 50hz or 25fps to avoide screen flickering
That is a very good question. I will look into it. I'm only here in UK for another week. Thanks for the advice 🙏
Very clear and helpful. Thank you. Which of the two would you say is the easier to ride for a novice rider?
For a novice rider I would honestly recommend the 350 J Series bikes. Especially the Meteor 350 or the Classic 350. But out of the 650 range if you are that confident, I would say it all depends on your inside leg. 795mm is top end height for most motorbikes, so the Shotgun is high seated. The Meteor is more relaxed.
I’d like to see the Shotgun on sale in Thailand, don’t know how we will have to wait, after all they’ve only just introduced the Himalayan 450
Brilliant.
I think you meant buy both lol. I’m sure there will be some out there that will 😂🙏
Now they just need the Shotgun 650 with forward controls.
Now wouldn't that be something 😂🙏
It looks to me that you can lower the seat mount to get the bobber feel, but not sure how it would affect your reach to the handlebar and how 'destructive' the modification needed will be. (it would also lose the spring effect)
Bobbers are stripped bikes to make them light weight. The Shotgun is certainly not light weight. But still a fantastic handling bike 🙏
"Bobber" is more about the rear fender shape. If you compared the shape to the HD Bobber, it's pretty close.
Nope. A Bobber is a bike stripped of its unessential parts to make it lighter, and lower seated. The Shotgun is far from light or low seared. It has a bobber look. But not the feel. Still a nice bike though. 🙏
Interesting review.
Thanks 🙏
I prefer the looks of the Meteor but the dynamics of the Shotgun. Hmmm....
Agreed. Best to wait until November. Hopefully then the Classic 650 is released. And hopefully that is a mix of the 2 bikes 👌🙏
Too much Details❤
Really? 😂
Hello! Should I buy Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 or Royal Enfield Classic 350 should you help me with this?
Ha ha. Not enough information. Are you a new rider? I will presume you are. A 650 is too big and powerful in my opinion for a first bike. Get all the mistakes made on a 350 or less first. Less dangerous and survivable 👌🙏
Really love this vid.
Than you 👌🙏
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you 🙏
Does a shotgun have a better and more comfortable seat than a supermeteor?
Harder seat, but less sudden jolts over bumps and potholes. Sometimes harder is more comfortable 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand I have a Honda Shadow Spirit. And it is soft, but I wish a newer bike.Thank you very much for your help!
@@LumpyCarbs that's a bike I've not seen or heard of. I will look into it, thanks 🙏
does the shotgun have the option for a passenger seat?
Yes it does. Comes as standard I believe. This just removed. It is a sub frame that bolts on top of the rear suspension units. 🙏.
How did it lose quality in the switchgear?
Not a brushed steel finish like the Meteor. I thought replaced by plastic? ,🙏
Every bobber I looked at have the feet placement as the Shotgun.
This bike looks 100% bobber to me.
Looks, but doesn't feel. Too heavy for a bobber. Bobbers are stripped down bikes to make them lighter. But yes it's got the look.
is the heat bearable on long traffic?
I find oil cooled runs cooler than water cooled in Thailands 40 degrees heat days. But on new bikes the first 500km they do run hot until they loosen up. 🙏
U do get the lifting handles on the back rack right?
Also i think the issue of the arms getting tired can be fixed my a raised handle bar
They were not on the bike I test rode. But not difficult to put on the centre stand., having a higher ground clearance compared to the Meteor. Agreed about the raiders ,🙏
😞
Well the rear fender is chopped and it’s a solo seat so that’s a bobber. Bobbers are not cruisers it’s short low bars a chopped or bobbed rear fender and a solo seat.
A traditional bobber is lightweight. Stripped of all un essential parts to make it lightweight. Front fenders removed, side panels removed etc. The Shotgun is far from light. Hence in my opinion not a bobber. But sure, yes it has a bobber look. But not feel or handling. 🙏
I really, really want this bike but i'm 5'5 with 29 inseam so i'm worried this bike will be to tall for me :/
The build up and hype about this bike has been amazing. But for short riders like us, it’s very disappointing. The seat height I had was 820mm I believe. There is an 805mm seat available. Make sure you test ride a bike with an 805mm seat height. Even if you can manage it, the bike is still very top heavy. All the best, and good luck. 🙏
You ride it more agresivly, then your bike.Did you move home for good?
Only visited family in UK for a few weeks. Now back teaching in Thailand again. The Shotgun wants to be ridden faster 😂🙏
The weight is still around 200kg but .. less bike xD
Is that more beginner friendly or still weight fks it?
@@angelnokare6906 it’s ok yes. The Hunter is a good light beginner bike.
@@angelnokare6906try both and I will bet you choose the Hunter. More pep and better handling.
How can you say it’s a cheaper bike than the Meteor when they are priced the same
£100 cheaper in UK 🤣
Question of the day is “would yo swap?” 🤔
Ha ha ha. Yes. if you like the classic retro look, then the Shotguns are a bit out there with their colour schemes. 🤪🙏
These new blacked out bikes from RE look cheap, I own the interceptor with the same engine I love it, much prefer the super meteor to the shotgun
Bkacked costs more ironically to make. Easier cleaning. I think that's the appeal as well as the dark look. The bike rode really well. 🙏
@@Makul-rt4sz I’m 168cm 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand ok so probably that's why then👍
That return to stressed member construction is a huge mistake.
💪🤔🙏
Or just wait for classic 650
Yes. That will be very interesting 👍
Feet position has nothing to do with being a bobber.
Kind of true. But weight certainly does. 🙏
Since when does a bobber have to be a cruiser? What the world rides Harley? Harley is the only bobber?
A bobber is a stripped down bike to make it lightweight. The Shotgun is far from a lightweight bike. It has the look, not the characteristics. 🙏
Shotgun looks like a bobber to me
Looks like, doesn't feel / handle like.
Collect them all 😂
That would be nice, and an understanding wife 😂🙏
Not exactly the same bike. Fine. So what?
