Urgent Update - Meteor 650 rear shock Torque settings
The visest conclusion of all. These are all wonderful bikes, and it’s up to your personal taste and needs to decide. I’m driving a RE Classic 500 and I’m perfectly satisfied despite the 1 cylinder vibrations and all. ShouId I upgrade to one of these I would surely have to try them all out…
Loved this review 🎉. I prefer Vulcan S, but also like Meteor 650 :)
The Vulcan S has so much going for it. Apart from that head light 👌😂🙏
They are all mediocre 🤮
Ha ha. What do you ride that's better then?
Can you put the part numbers of both the items. Normal back rest and touring seat with Backrest. Please.
The touring seat on its own is KXA00253 The back rest with touring seat is KXQ00036 🙏
Teacher T: GREAT VIDEO! Applaud your comments on the rear suspension, you said it just right. RE stock rear suspension is a human back destruction machine. Highly appreciate all the suggestions and comments on the accessories. Quite helpful for those of us that just purchase the SM650, you are saving us a lot of time and money. . . . and probably a back disk!
Thanks for watching and taking note. Sadly a lot of owners sell very quickly because of this. But it can be solved. 👌🙏
does changing the exhaust make difference in mileage👈
Fuel economy? I would say yes. Firstly more airflow means using more gas I think. Secondly people tend to Rev it more to hear the noise 😂👌🙏
very nice 🏍👌👌
Thanks! It was a fun trip! 🙏
owners manual shows rear tire 36
Correct yes. But I find the ride on the rear very hard, so choose 34, which will eventually turn to 36 as the rear tyre heats up. 🙏
Thanks for your instructive videos. Just a question do you know the measurements forvthe drain plug O ring? And any body knows a compatible oil filter?
As far as I am aware, there are only 2 different sizes of drain plug washer. It takes the larger size similar to Honda. Sorry I don’t have exact sizes. As for oil filter I only have an aftermarket Thai manufacture. Brand is FULL. The filter is the Razer part number FR-RE001. Hopefully you can cross reference it somehow 🙏
I can't agree with you more. Alot of the mechanics in India don't even know what a Torque Wrench is !!!
It is important. I’m 95% sure over tightening was the cause here. 🙏
Teacher T what’s your thoughts on the CFMOTO 450 CL-C Bobber???
I am very excited to ride and review this bike. Sadly CFmoto does not exist in Thailand anymore. The franchise did not survive Covid lock downs here in Thailand. But I do hope they manage to return. I return to the UK for a few months in March. The CLC 450 is right up there on the top of the list to get my hands on, 🙏
I have watched quite a few of your videos now and I hope to purchase a 650 this year too
Thank you. Have you decided on a model? All the best 🙏
@@Teacher-T-ThailandI’m a new rider and just off my learners, RE Meteor 650 cruiser, it’ll be my first bike to own, I’m just looking at all the costs on top to modify as I’d need comfort to enjoy my ride…. I found your channel cos was looking at the RE cruiser
Thank you for the reviews🌟🌻
@ nice. Thanks. Rear suspension I would recommend as first mod, as and when you can afford it. Ride safe 🙏
@ Oml I’ve just watched your RUclips on the RE shotgun 650 it’s a beauty tho doesn’t look as relaxing as the cruiser
How tall are you Teacher T, you don’t actually say
I’m 5ft 8. And shirt inside leg of 28 inches 😂👌🙏
@ ok I’m the same height, good to know….
May I ask how tall you are sir. At just over 6 feet I'm too tall for the SM650
6ft too tall? I find that herd too believe. I’ve seen people over 6ft ride them no problem. I am only 5ft 8 and do struggle to flat foot the bike. 👌🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand thanks T. Yes quick rides are fine but the longer ones I'm starting to get sore from slumping. I'm trading in for the Bear
I'm 6'3" and I had no problems riding on Teacher Ts SM 650! Very comfortable ride!

@@scottbieber1731 how long did you ride for? Stock seat , shocks and bars?
Very thanks Teacher T., making our Super Meteor’s life much easier. Excelent videos, easy, complety and addictive. By the way, what is the blue liquid from the pin to the clamp? Screw fixers?
Welcome. Here it’s called Ceramasille. Most lubricants are petroleum based, which in time destroys rubber. This is safe for brakes, as it doesn’t attack the rubber boot parts. 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand perfect, thank you again.
r u back in England for good?
Ha ha, no. This was filmed in March 2024. However I am returning to UK for a few months in March 2025. I’m hoping to get a few more reviews in then also 🙏
Do you do all your editing alone or do you have an editor. Nice title intro!
Yes I do. All on my lonesome. Learning new techniques every day 👌🙏
mt brother has same bike I said to him one of the best sounding bikes as stock amazing job by royal enfield
Very quiet when new. But a year on a bit more noise 😂👌🙏
Good evening Teacher T. Your customized riding seat looks amazing. I hope it's equally comfortable too
Yes it’s a gel touring seat from Sahara seats in India. I can ride 8 hours a day no problem with this seat 👌🙏
Funny video Mr. T😊nice sound, can’t wait until the spring again in the Nordics
A little bit different. Hope you can get out riding soon 👌😂🙏
🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 i’m loving of my Super Meteor!!! I love all Super Meteor!!! I love almost all Royal Enfield!!!
Me too 👌😂🙏
That seat looks fantastic. Where dit you get it?
Ha ha. Sahara seats from India. Video link in video description 🙏
Wow, what a fantastic film, scenery and motorbike! I love my meteor 350, but your super meteor is really very nice. If I ever going to trade in my current bike for a super meteor, I probably would choose exactly the same colour scheme as yours. It’s beautiful!
Thanks very much. I started my Royal Enfield journey on a Meteor 350. Owned it for 2 years and put 20,000 km on it. Lovely bike. But I could not resist the 650. I regret selling the 350 though 👌🙏
Nice episode, yet again! I bought SM650 too. I plan to replace the front sprocket with more tooth. Could you help advise your secondary ratio for your belt system? Or help to let me know the diameters of front and back sprocket? Or let me know the number of tooth of the front and back sprocket.
Adding 1 more tooth to the front sprocket for the chain is my equivalent on my belt drive ratio. It lowers the revs of the bike at higher speeds. I think the original chain sprocket is 15 teeth. Hitchcocks motorcycles from UK sell one with 16 teeth I believe. They also now are the main distributor for the RS Tech belt drive kits 🙏
@Teacher-T-Thailand Excellent explanation 👏 At your current belt (= 16 tooth for chain system), would you have wish to have 17-tooth equivalent? To have a more leisure engine speed at cruising speed. You answer would help me. Tks!
Greetings Teacher T. Well my 650 Super Meter has new new rear Hagon suspension. Originally I was going for the shrouded ones, old school design. But while ordering parts from Hitchcock's I noticed Hagon was now doing the chrome spring version to what you've fitted. But at the same length as the RE original suspension. If I said wow I do mean WOW! What a difference to the ride these make. Well impressed and hoping for a smoother ride to Cornwall in June 👍. So for now, safe cruising and see you in the next one sir 👃😊... PS. The bike sounds nice too!
That’s great Les. Yes night and day, as I said in my review video of the Hagon shocks. My original exhausts have definitely got louder with age. But they too will be swapped out one day. All the best to you 👌🙏
I gotta say if only there were roads that quite to ride along in Britain, I'd think I would have died and gone to heaven especially with that scenery! 👃🥰
🙋♂️🇹🇷
❤️👌🙏
Beautifull scenery, silent episode 😅
The old Covid again. Can’t talk again. The joys of being a teacher 😂🙏
I'd just love to be able to ride roads that quite in the UK! Like going to heaven isn't it?
@ kind of, if it wasn’t for the constant bumps. I hope you saw that also. Hence the Hagons 👌😂🙏
Thank Mrs T. for her feed back. Again very useful video.
Thanks we chose the Sahara seats in the end for our long tour. 🙏
Just purchased that same bike, and your video is helpful to decide which "look" (seat arrangement) to choose for different occasions. Thank you very much! Please report on confort for the different seats. Thanks!
If you watch this video from 2.30 we have another discussion about the Sahara seats 🙏 ruclips.net/video/jbl1nXoPhKc/видео.htmlsi=JuY-Z6UE9etDJaUx
thank you. which dual shock you bought for sm650?

Hey, I recently found your channel and i found it great the only feedback I would give you is that you can improve videos editing and thumbnails.I can help you for making best thumbnail and video editing service for you.Other then great content; you earned sub) Regards, Abdul
Thanks for the feedback, I am still learning about video editing and thumbnails, but I am always open to suggestions! 🙏
Hi, I bought my Meteor 650 today, rode it and noticed that it gets very hot, especially when stopped at traffic lights. I asked the dealer and he said that if I replace the exhaust pipe, like you did in the video, it should help and the engine temperature will drop, did your engine heat drop after installing it?
maybe it's still new and being run in, after the temperature will be lower
I am still on original exhausts. The heat will drop after your first oil change at 500km. The engine is very tight when new, and a lot of friction. In time the pistons will run smoother, and less heat. Now at 15,000 km by bike is running a lot cooler. Like you, I was alarmed at first. But trust me it will pass. Congratulations on the new Meteor. But please take your suspension preload off setting 1 and put it to 2 or 3 to save your back 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand Thank you for your detailed answer, do you mean to make the shock absorbers softer so that the suspension becomes more comfortable?
@@Teacher-T-Thailand maybe you have a video about adjusting the shock absorber?
@@iluaghostrider6092It doesn't make it softer, but will stop to sudden jolts on big bumps in the road 🙏
Hallo, do you think this sissybar fits with the touring seat installed?
I will check in the morning for you. I still have the touring seat in the garage 🙏
ruclips.net/video/nDuxG54cL0c/видео.htmlsi=tWe-tOjPbWsXlY00
This video explains what’s happening
Not really. These RE shocks don't really work with SAG. It's hit and miss. A shock designed to fit all weights. For some they are ok. For most they are not.
Hello. Just want to know if we can get those trip master bags for the Vulcan 900 also? I don’t like hard saddle bags and want to clip my bags on and off. Cheers.
Sadly the expedition saddle bags were especially designed for the Meteor 650. However they will fit the Shotgun 650 and hopefully the new Classic 650. However Trip Machine Company do make many styles of universal saddle bags. Just check out their website. They also have many distributors world wide. 🙏
Hi Teacher T, I have one month ago my Super Meteor 650 Celestial red. I have been seeing you videos, and they are great. I am learning a lot about the motocycle. I found as you, the motorcycle is quite bouncy and hard. Before, I change the shocks, I would like to change a bit the tyre's air pressure. Royal Endfield recomment: Front 41, rear 36. Are you riding your Meteor 650 with these air pressures. thanks for your answer, best regards from Tenerife/Spain.
I feel and shared your disappointment. I too went down the route of trying to lower tyre pressures. Sadly it doesn’t work. It just makes the bike less controllable going over ridges in the road. Just in case you have not seen it I recommend my video here : ruclips.net/video/DVMdhrHC2tM/видео.htmlsi=N68UuUvDY4WJRNOX From show room the preload is set at 1. It needs to be minimum of 3 to be honest. On 1 it’s so soft, the unit has no travel left on big bumps, is you get a hard jolt. I too didn’t want to buy after market shocks. I struggled for 6 months with the originals. In the end I gave up. And wished I had changed them before. But please adjust your preload. It will help 🙏
felt or rubber washers for furniture will protect against bolts that scratch the paint; they are glued to the legs of chairs
Just by screwing them tighter solved the issue. I just forgot in my rush to fit the seat 👌🙏
@ Tell me please, I ordered Sahara seats like yours, will the passenger be more comfortable than on the factory, standard seat? I understand, for the driver Sahara is definitely better.
@iluaghostrider6092 yes it will be, but not if you have the RE genuine back rest fitted underneath. There are no rubber buffers like this which causes vibration. If you use a different back rest that bolts on the sides it's ok. The seat then can use the rubber buffers. My my loved it and survived 2,400 km on the Sahara seats.
Thank you dear
👌😂🙏
For me, it's been boiling down to the choice of a RE S.Meteor, Vulcan 900 or the Vulcan S. Your video's have helped me greatly!
That’s great to hear, thank you. 3 great bikes does make it difficult. 🙏
I'm a "low down bum" as well, severely restricts the bikes I can ride. I have a Super Meteor 650, same colour, can't get my feet fully flat to the ground, looking at a rear suspension change like in your other vid. What a beautiful ride, thank you for sharing.
Thanks. Yep, than 20mm lower makes such a difference. And doesn’t affect the handling. 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand Is your centre stand still usable with the lower height?
@ yes. I just reverse the rear wheel onto a 200mm wooden wedge. Then bike is normal height and can use centre stand 🙏
A very interesting perspective !
The 350 was a very very good bike. Still miss it 😂🙏
Great review! Cheers. (Nifty little hack with the strap! )
Thanks. Yes a very handy man bag 😂👌🙏
Really interested to maybe buy one of these bikes so finding your channel was fantastic! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences with it. Cheers from the UK. Tony. Yes I've subscribed!
You are spoilt for choice of bikes in the UK. He models take longer to arrive, and not all brands present. Like CF Moto. I’m looking forward to reviewing the CF Moto SL 400 c when I return in a couple of months time. Nice low cruiser with belt drive fitted. 🙏
I am looking to add silver/nikel rings to the gauges of my SM650 both on tripper and Spedometer so that it looks like the meteor 350 gauges. Can you help me?? Dimensions perhaps for 3d printing or purchase somewhere. Thanks a million!!
I agree with you. I was a little disappointed also after upgrading from the 350. I can help sorry, but I’m sure I’ve seen someone put a Pringle lid on the speed and it fitted 🤪😂🙏
@ really?? I’ll try it! Keep traveling!
Well I watched the series and was waiting for you to miss something. I thought I had you when you hadn’t cleaned the brake disc - then at the end you did. I couldn’t trip up the teacher! As a fun fact after related to the beveled edge on your pad, many years ago in the early days of disc brakes on motorcycles we used to bevel the leading edge of the pad, some manufacturers beveled the edge from the factory. It was supposed to make for smoother engagement and less pad chatter. This was pre-floating caliper days. Great series on the subject. I look forward to your take on the new pads once you’ve put some miles on them.
Thanks. My 11 year old students like to trip me up when I spell something wrong on the whiteboard 😂 I’m looking forward to comparing the pads to the organic ones. One week on the new Brembo, no different to the originals (which were RE Brembo). Just cheaper to buy, which is the crazy thing. Thanks for the support 👌🙏
Yup 66 years old and still trying to trip up the teacher!
One pad will always wear more than the other as it is a floating calliper the first pad hits the disk first before the second one and with slightly more force. I always use copper grease on the back of the pads to prevent squeaking👍
On my rear this was the case. On the front not so much. I couldn’t get any copper grease in my town. Did you put it on the rear of the heat shield, or between the rear of the heat shield and pad?
And now my question, do this Pads brake better or is there no difference between the original and the new brembo brake pads?
At the moment I am finding no difference from the originals. Not better. Not worse. But cheaper to buy than the original RE ones. 🙏
My 40th birthday is on Monday and I plan to buy the Super Meteor ☄️. Eventually I do plan to do all my own servicing, but in your opinion is the first service fee necessary or just learn it myself and avoid spending the extra 💰?
What a great Birthday present. Life begins at 40 👌 Yes to keep your warranty you should if possible get your first service done at RE. The service is normally free. You just pay for the oil and filter. 🙏
Hi Teacher T. Thanks for this series of tutorials help me a lot with my SM, I wonder how your rear brake pads are doing, what mileage do they last, were they able to handle rider, passenger and luggage on the bike knowing that the rear pads you used were for Himalaya 411? Greetings from Colombia! 🇨🇴
Very good question. Yes the Himalayan rear pads survived out 2,400km tour of Thailand. 6,000 km on them now and they are still good. Maybe not as much grip as the originals, but now we have established 70% braking on the front and 30% on the rear, they function ok for this purpose 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand Thanks a lot! I’ll use the same formula
