Before you start making your decrease in the end, make sure that the hat is one or two centimeters shorter than the total length the you prefer it, then start making the row with decrease, then make a row with on sc in every st, then work another row where you crochet together 2 sc everytime, then a row with one sc in every st and keep doing that up until the top closes up, if you're left with 4 or 6 st in the end just sew it to close it up.
Hello, Martha. I'd say that you can use any yarn that you prefer, although the thicker the yarn is, you'll have a better result of the waffle stitch. The yarn I'm using has wool in it as well.

You're going to do that, but you're going to be working 2 stitches together, and instead of having 24dc in the row of decreases as I did, you're going to have 12, then work a row of sc with one st in every st, the work a row of sc decreases where you crochet two sc together. Now you'll have 6st left, sew the rest of it to close up the hole, and you can add a pom pom if you'd like in the end!
You mean the way I have the thread between my fingers on the left hand, or the way I use the crochet hook?? My grandmother was my teacher when I was young, she was very clear that this way would be the one that would help work my projects easier and with less stress on my hands and fingers. Never changed it ever since!! :D

It depends on how you crochet. If you turn your work in every row to work on the opposite direction, it's on the left, if you work in the round without turning your work, then it's on the right. ❤
I'd say that's it's between medium weight and bulky, because although I made it with a 5mm crochet hook, you can work it with a 6mm as well. Hope I helped!

Can a regular -ply yarn be used as a substitute for the yarn you are using? If not the 4-ply substitute, can a wool blend be okay?
