I just finished my second messy bun hat! The first one I did only starlight. The second one I added fig yarn like you did. I was able to change yarn with no problem. You are a great teacher!! I’m so proud of myself 😉😘👏
I would love to see a tutorial for a hooded scarf with pockets, I think they are just too cute. Thanks for all the awesome videos, I love your channel!
Ooomg I love iiit. I am a croche beginner, so I'm always looking for projects like this that allow me to gain experience. It was beautiful and simple, I am really gonna enjoy doing this awesome hat. Thank you 😀
I know I’ve been a bit critical of some of your other videos but this messy bun by far is the best tutorial I have seen on messy buns I love it. Messy buns are super popular this year I’ve been asked to make at least 30. Your magic color change is great. I’m doing my hats in school colors. university of Tennessee UT go Vols ! And East Tennessee State University so they have turned out great can’t make enough I think the magic color change would also work for fingerless mitts.
I would really love it if you would do a short tutorial on how you hold your yarn and work to make it all move along so quickly and easily. I have been trying different methods and it seems like I waste a lot of time moving my hands, fumbling with the yarn to readjust the tension and get the hook out so I can go on to the next stitch. My stitches are uniform for the most part , however, I think if I can improve my technique I could save time and be more likely to take on larger projects.
Sewrella I too have this problem with some yarns. Not sure why, seems that I can get it to glide ok with a worsted weight but not blanket yarn.... which I am using for this project. Thoughts?
Hi Mary - it really just takes practice. I have to adjust to different weight yarns too, if I've been working with worsted weight a lot lately then I switch to a chunky yarn it takes a few rows to get the hang of holding that weight yarn again. You'll get there, just relax your hands and have fun!
I love your beanie...it would be great for my Ohio winter. I was wondering if you could crochet one or work up a pattern for on in regular weight yarn for the people that live in warmer climates. I would love to make one for my daughter that lives in Texas. Thank you I again for a wonderful pattern !!
I love his hat. how many total rounds did you do. I count 17 without the last one. Thank you so much for this pattern. I'm going to try it in chinelle.
I want to do this exact hat but with no hole, how would I go about this? 🙏 maybe just 6 sc in a magic ring, then 2sc in each stitch to make 12, then go on with pattern as usual?
I have taken this apart several times and started over again from the beginning. I still wind up with a total of the (2sc then 1sc in the next 6st ) 5 times instead of the 4 you say in the tutorial. Does that make a difference?
Hi love messy bun beanie. I am from Soutth Africa where we do not have very cold winters. Hw many chains would I make around elastic using double knit wool using no. 5 crochet hook. Kind regards
It will change. If you have worsted weight I do have a bun beanie pattern on my blog for that here: www.sewrella.com/2016/12/crochet-puff-stitch-bun-beanie.html
I just started doing this but the first row around the hair-tie, I have 14 stitches, so how many rows that I need to increase? Thank you so much (": Thank you for the tutorial too, it's awesome!
can you use a 4 or5 ply or even a 3 ply yarn with this pattern and do you put two single crickets in the same stitch that you last in live it and thank you very much Merry Christmas and God bless you
I'm a little confused by your question Terry - you could use multiple strands of worsted weight yarn to get a chunky yarn and then follow this pattern.
I have a question, I'm use to measuring the crown of the hat be 7.25 inches when I crochet hats then continuing in the round. I measured 5.25 on the crown of this hat.. Am I doing something wrong???
I'm new to this and so not sure what size of yarn this is and my biggest hook says 8mm. I can buy a bigger hook but the only chunky yarn I've worked with is baby bernat and that seems to big.
Hey Ashleigh. I tried out this pattern. It came out too tight on my sisters head. I think my stitch count was off. Is there a way to make this more of a looser fitting hat?
Could you tell us the weight of your yarn? Could you tell us how many stitches are in each increase? And what the number count is once the increases are completed?
I am making one for my 9 yr old granddaughter and it looks like it may be to small to fit her head! I’m making mine with medium #4 weight yarn and in two colors like your did! So how do I increase the stitches so it will fit her?
If you used a worsted weight Red Heart, then yes. I recommend holding two strands together and following the pattern as written to get the right sizing!
Sure! Just start with a Ch of 11, sl st into the first Ch (next to the slip knot), and work a Sc into each Ch st around to get going, then proceed as usual
If you use a 6mm and the chunky yarn it will come out pretty stiff. If you go that route I would hold two strands of worsted weight yarn together with your 6mm hook - the smaller strands will give you more flexibility in the fabric
When I used the hair tie technique, my first round always twisted, and it would be impossible to make the hat. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
Yes, your hat will come out a lot smaller! I have a worsted weight messy bun hat pattern on my blog here: www.sewrella.com/2016/12/crochet-puff-stitch-bun-beanie.html
I would like to make this hat for a friend but they describe their head size as "massive melon". would this fit any size head? or would have to make it bigger
Row 1--12, row 2--18, row 3--24, row 4--30, row 5--34, then 34 for the rest
I just finished my second messy bun hat! The first one I did only starlight. The second one I added fig yarn like you did. I was able to change yarn with no problem. You are a great teacher!! I’m so proud of myself 😉😘👏
Of all of the videos of the messy bun beanie, I like this one. It is so easy!
I love your way of changing yarn color. I'm going to have to try your way and see how that works. Thank you.
I would love to see a tutorial for a hooded scarf with pockets, I think they are just too cute. Thanks for all the awesome videos, I love your channel!
I made one last night and it came out great!! Quick and easy! Will make great Christmas presents. Thank you!!
Love this hat.. So super easy.. Getting busy for Christmas hats... Thanks for the color change tip..

OMG, finally!!! been finding a tutorial all day. finally! lifesaver!!!!
I love it. I made 3 different ones today. I think I like your top down method.
I've tried a few patterns and have fail but I think yours is pretty easy so I'm going to try it 🙂
Thank you so easy and simple to follow
I love this!! I am gonna have to work on one of these next weekend. Thank you for making this. I can't wait to see what else you have.

Sew Pretty thank You for sharing your video - it’s nice quick and easy 👍🏽👍🏽

Great video. Easy to follow thank you!

I will keep that in mind, thanks!

I have a worsted weight pattern option here: www.sewrella.com/2016/12/crochet-puff-stitch-bun-beanie.html
Sewrella Thank you so much, that is awesome !! I am off to check it out now =)
Sewrella

Sara Williams you won't be disappointed! i made 2 hats from one skein using two different colors. so in total i made 8 complete hats!
Love this! Thank you!

Nice video, glad I watched this. Now I know how to alternate colors!! (:
😊That is so cute😊
Thank you so much for sharing!
great video! love it

Great Tutorial! I have only worsted weight yarn, do I use the same count with the chunky yarn, or will it change?
It will change. If you have worsted weight I do have a bun beanie pattern on my blog for that here: www.sewrella.com/2016/12/crochet-puff-stitch-bun-beanie.html
thank you happy hoildays!
love your video~thanks
I just started doing this but the first row around the hair-tie, I have 14 stitches, so how many rows that I need to increase? Thank you so much (":
Thank you for the tutorial too, it's awesome!
You hat seem to be smaller than 23" how do you make bigger?
This is gorgeous!! Do yo have one in knit
How many rows did you do in the single crochets?

Sewrella [
Carlyne Keck i love the way you did that cute
Playlist
i would love for you to do a magic color video change just to make sure that i get it and i dont get tricked when i m crocheting!!
I'll add it to the to do list!
thank you!
Can you use the color change technique to add a skein of yarn when making a project that requires more than one skein?
I think so Katie, great question!
ibwas wondering if you had something where it had how many stitches are in each row
I was wondering this as well
me too
Row 1--12, row 2--18, row 3--24, row 4--30, row 5--34
I'm looking for one to make for a 10 year old starting from the top just as u did using a elastic band
Do u think this will work for 4 weight yarn 2 strands together instead of bulky yarn?
Awesome I am a beginner crocheter and I will be making one so easy and simple thanks for sharing. ☺
can you use a 4 or5 ply or even a 3 ply yarn with this pattern and do you put two single crickets in the same stitch that you last in live it and thank you very much Merry Christmas and God bless you
I'm a little confused by your question Terry - you could use multiple strands of worsted weight yarn to get a chunky yarn and then follow this pattern.
will a6 super bulky make it turn out differently from the tutorial?
I have a question, I'm use to measuring the crown of the hat be 7.25 inches when I crochet hats then continuing in the round. I measured 5.25 on the crown of this hat.. Am I doing something wrong???
Hmm are you using the recommended hook size and yarn weight?
I'm new to this and so not sure what size of yarn this is and my biggest hook says 8mm. I can buy a bigger hook but the only chunky yarn I've worked with is baby bernat and that seems to big.
How many would you chain on for a girls hat (8/9 years )
Hey Ashleigh. I tried out this pattern. It came out too tight on my sisters head. I think my stitch count was off. Is there a way to make this more of a looser fitting hat?
After each row how many stitches should you have?
Could you tell us the weight of your yarn? Could you tell us how many stitches are in each increase? And what the number count is once the increases are completed?
Is there a way we can do the closed top instead of the open hole for messy bun?
sure! Just start with a magic ring, 11 DC in magic ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each around, join, chain 2
then proceed as usual
Sewrella oh my gosh. thank you!
I love the messy bun hats but -I rea;;y needed printed out so I copy-- thanks
I am making one for my 9 yr old granddaughter and it looks like it may be to small to fit her head! I’m making mine with medium #4 weight yarn and in two colors like your did! So how do I increase the stitches so it will fit her?
hi there. I've been using redheart yarn for years. would it make the size small?
If you used a worsted weight Red Heart, then yes. I recommend holding two strands together and following the pattern as written to get the right sizing!
does one size fit all adults?
Is there a way to start this hat without an elastic tie?
Sure! Just start with a Ch of 11, sl st into the first Ch (next to the slip knot), and work a Sc into each Ch st around to get going, then proceed as usual
What kind of hook are you using
I use the same size elastic, yarn, and hook and yet I SC 12 and have and lot elastic left
my biggest size hook is 6mm willthat be big enough to make this thanks
If you use a 6mm and the chunky yarn it will come out pretty stiff. If you go that route I would hold two strands of worsted weight yarn together with your 6mm hook - the smaller strands will give you more flexibility in the fabric
When I used the hair tie technique, my first round always twisted, and it would be impossible to make the hat. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
I'd love to know how many crochet stitches in each row, please. Thank you :-)
Do you happen to have this pattern with a stitch count?
+sewrella I can not get mine to stay flat like yours. I've had to start over 4 times now. Help!
I'm not sure what you mean by "stay flat" - which part are you having trouble with?
what size skeins are you using?
I'm using the standard size skeins - half of each skein. I lost my labels so I'm not sure how many yards they are!
What weight is your yarn
what is the pattern thin yard?
how do I find the written pattern
Link is in the description box below the video.
Is the stitch count less for teens head?
Depends on the size of your teen, this pattern should work for any average teen/adult!
I made one using the p hook and a 6 weight yarn, but my daughter who is a adult says it's too big. Wandering where I went wrong
A normal P hook will be too big, you need an N/P hook.
I have thinner yarn...does that matter?
Yes, your hat will come out a lot smaller! I have a worsted weight messy bun hat pattern on my blog here: www.sewrella.com/2016/12/crochet-puff-stitch-bun-beanie.html
Sewrella b
For thinner size 4 yarn what size hook would you use? Can you just use the worsted doubled and what size hook would I use then?
If your yarn is thinner can you double it
Yes, hold a double strand of yarn and follow the pattern as is :)
I wish I could understand this better. I got the part around the hair tie but then got too confused
Make sure you're really familiar with the single crochet stitch!
Are we allowed to sell the product?
Yes, just provide credit to my blog for design :)
can I make this for a child not teen
You certainly could! I would just go down a hook size or two and leave out the last round of increases :)
Hi,i want to know how to make one for 5 years girl
where's the pattern?
www.sewrella.com/2016/12/crochet-1-hour-messy-bun-beanie.html
Sewrella
love the hat but for some reason the seam side angles down to a point and sticks out
U look so cute
There’s no stitch count… ?
Why is your video messed up
Hola me gusta tus gorros me gustaría que pusieras en español las intrucciones gracias y un abrazo muy especial para ti
I would like to make this hat for a friend but they describe their head size as "massive melon". would this fit any size head? or would have to make it bigger
I would add another row of increases and then proceed as usual.
I would love to try but your hands are.too fast. Ive never done this before. Slow motion please😢
