- Today we are turning thrifted picture frames into expensive looking art! Join me as we bust out acryla gouache paints, rub n buff, glue, yarn, and more! This will get quite interesting... :)
I've always wanted to upcycle/thrift old stuff and make it over to give it new life. If you enjoy thrifted diy projects, let me know! Maybe I can turn this into a series!

New subcriber! Just wanted to share this before I watch the video. My daughter (12 years old) and I recently discovered your channel and absolutely adore you! She enjoys watching you create and finds you very funny, and I so appreciate that you are family friendly. Thank you for what you do. You are inspiring my girl and for that I am grateful. You are a gem, and we are big fans!🤩
Barbara - My daughter has been watching Mira since she was 11 or 12. I, too, have always loved and appreciated Mira for having a family friendly channel. She's just a great gal! Welcome to the "art family!"
I admire your creativity with making affordable home decor but your REAL strength is in creating art. I just retired after 40 years in the art business and trust me when I say your time is wasted on decor. You should be pursuing your art career. Many publisher hire artists to create art for their catalogues. I love the little painting with the striped leaves. Keep painting.
Can you please elaborate? I'm an amateur artist and would love to connect with a publisher to create art for a catalogue. Thanks
wow the frame with the plants you painted! Wow!!!! I love your art!
Pls make this a series. I've been wanting to do this and the inspiration helps so much!
Yes we need this!
I love the idea of creating art to fit the frame, like the long stretch of street scene for the long narrow frame, as opposed to trying to find a frame to fit the art! And i love a street scene, especially a Christmas one, with people walking with their gift purchases!! Our class made one in Fourth grade, and it always thrilled me..., i think it's imagining the little town and the different people in the buildings, and walking on the street, each doing their own thing!!! Just makes me so happy! 🥹❤️❤️❤️
My dad gave me a bunch of old frames to put art in like this and I haven’t had the inspiration to do it till your video!! ❤ your such an inspiration. Having your twins and keeping up with your channel I have 3 kids none of them twins and I don’t have much time for art right now seeing your videos fills that space for me till I have the time again.
❤LOVE both paintings!!!❤ So inspiring!
Please do turn this into a series, i find this kind of videos so fun and entertaining to watch. Plus you are recycling old stuff into amazing things!
Yes make this a series….Loved it so much!!
The teal building is my favorite. It’s my favorite color
I can just imagine the plant picture on an eclectic gallery wall with lots of visual intrigue
That’s exactly what I’m going for!!
It is such a delight whenever i see Mira post a new video 😊
The “clashing” bright colors and patterns really give that painting some movement. Very cool!
I luv ur art work and wld luv to see more,i adore pictures of houses n make my own little houses in different styles n coliurs n hang them on my wall,i maje them from layered cereal boxes n patterned card stocj nbeveryone wantscthem from me,thats why i adore ur houses, thank u so nuch for showing ur work i luv them❤❤❤❤
the orange one is my favorite 🧡
Just as a tip from a former framer, the reason that the inside of the mats are yellowed and "match the frame" is because they are not acid free mats and they have yellowed over time. I'm not saying not to use them, but they will cause any artwork in the frame to yellow as well over time. Love your stuff!
The pink building reminds me of this old town I drive through in a forgotten part of Texas. A small main street is flanked by brick storefronts, but almost all are just facades. The roofs caved in, windows broken out, and wooden pieces salvaged. It's surreal and incredibly cool. I need to stop for photos sometime but I'm always in such a hurry to get back home.
Maybe do it soon, Angie, because maybe it won't be there much longer? I think it'd be sad not to have that memory as a -opoto- photo.
I loved the houses painting!! Wasn't keen on the frame but it's just not my style. I think you should definitely do more of these videos! And I think a cool fun idea would be to do bookmarks! Botanical greenhouse bookmarks!! More greenhouses!! Love them!!
Wow, you sure have a steady hand!
The colorful cityscape reminds me of Willemstad, Curaçao. It’s beautiful
Need a series, Please!!!
This was exciting! Some of the best results we've seen with thrift store frames- it helps a lot if you have a good eye. Some people miss the best stuff!
Absolutely love this idea! Really inspiring! Xx
Fun to watch!
Love them. I need to see more.
I definitely want to try something like this. The prices of home decor items these days are outrageous, and who doesn’t love a great thrift store find?
This would be great for a series! Thank you for sharing your talents.
If this will be a series😍😍😍 I can't wait😃 This was very inspiring and upcycling is something I like a lot. Will you make another studio vlog? Or packing orders?😃 i also loved this backstage videos😃
You’ve obviously had some art training in your life. I love the plant painting. The background of the painting is so cool.😎
I belong to a co-op gallery, and I do oil painting. All my frames that my work is in is gently used thrift store finds. Frames (some of them great quality) at a fraction of the cost. Helps keep my "cost" down on my work, and less in the land fill.
Great finds! Oh, when you clean a frame, it works great to take it completely apart so you can get into the crevices near the back better. Thanks for telling us what you use for cleaners. And for showing us your process. Very helpful.
Sorry I'm late to this party but glad I found it online. I love ideas that allow us to reuse items rather than throw them out. I will be visiting the thrift store. We once bought a large painting that we loved but it was framed in a frame we hated. We stripped it of its faux antique finish and low and behold..there was a beautiful detailed wood underneath. After the stripping we gave it an oak golden oak finish that matched the wooden highlights and features in the room. It is beautiful. I like your idea even better..to create art for thrifted/renewed frames. Thanks.
You should make a video painting the coffee mugs that’d be dope
The first one I feel like you and usually don't like to put clashing colors in but the more you went with it it actually made me feel calm it looks so pretty like that and I would love that to hang on my wall although I will try it myself and I love the leaves with the green and pink I think I have a plant that looks just like the one you painted anyway I always love your videos
I'd love to see you do more frames. I used to redesign wooden plaques from thrift stores. Then after my stroke I couldn't do them anymore as you need two hands to do them. I still have the wooden plaques that need to be resigned but I think I'll give them back to the thrift store since I can't do anything with them now. It may sound strange but I want to cry because I loved recycling them and making them into other pieces of art.🙁
I just donated so many of my beautiful finds because we’re moving! I’m so happy to see you got some great deals. Hopefully someone finds my donations and finishes them as nice as yours!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I like the little yellow building in the middle. Nice finds! That is our favorite thrift store. Daughter and I were just there this week!
Such a great thrift store! Pretty sure I just shipped your daughter some bookmarks the other day! 😁
@@MiraByler you did! She ordered them for my birthday. We got them the very next day! Love them!
My favorite is the yellow building with the blue roof as its smaller than the others and it kinda reminds me of the house stuart little loved in. So small and cute when the others are tall. Plus I'm partial to yellow 💛
I love this. I am building a gallery wall of my art and i buy all my frames secondhand from thrift stores. So this is a cute lil way to make them look fancy.
I like the yellow and black building
i love the red and pink house
The paper you painted the plant, looks like it is a watercolor block. I love my watercolor block.
Yes! A series of this please! Subscribed.
We went to Denmark last summer and loved it! Ya'll should go!
I love this idea
My favourite building is the yellow one to the right
You're inspiring ❤
Love your boldness 🎉❤🎉
never underestimate what you can find at a thrift store and give it a new look 😀well done plant portrait
That’s funny cause Moriah Elizabeth just did a thrift store makeover too! Great job they look awesome!
I love this trend so much
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Please do more.
I like the blue house on the right side of the painting
I like the blue building
6:05 - that's too funny that you found one of those - I found one & bought it for my daughter, and she also found & bought one for herself so now she's got 2!
I’m supposed to be on a no spend😂, planning on trawling my local charity shops tomorrow to see what I can find.
To be fair I have a new house to decorate.
Please continue this as a series.
@8:27 omggg that made a huge difference ❤
Another new subscriber here. Really enjoying what you do so far
There is something that really works well on all things and has no alcohol, so is safe to use even on granite (which is what I purchased it for). It is called SprayWay. It cleans glass without any sreaking, would work on your frames, etc. Try it, you'll like it. Very little elbow grease needed with SprayWay. (It comes in a can. Was recommended to me by our granite guy. Said it works well on most surfaces.)
I like the blue building with the mixed shaped windows
I'm going to Denmark too this summer❤ one of my top travel goals for ages, I even considered going to university there once (sadly did not happen cause money). But yay on the travel goals and yay on the video, awesome as always🎉
Yes plz do more frames. I have 2 frames I am going to do face lifts too. One has glass the other does not. Love these ideas!
OMG cant belive what im hearing....... Denmark..... Well Hello from Denmark. Mira please could you do a meet'n'greet...... i cant belive this.... been following for years.
My favorite of the buildings is the orange-ish one with the dome on it
Rub and buff looks like a great product, it totally transformed that frame. Beautiful artwork as always. 🤩
11:40 my fav part of the video 😊 that edit tho 💯💖💁🏻♀️👸
Pausing at 20:15 My favourite is definitely the little yellow house in the middle. I keep expecting a little dumpy lady to come out of her front door and begin scrubbing her doorstep - eg as in old children's colouring books of the 1950's. .
I also loved the first painting. the colour choices are superb. I couldn't have it in my house, cos the patterns play havoc with my eyes, but that doesn't stop me appreciating the painting and the cleaned-up version of the frame, which I thought was 'orrible before the make-over!
PS: this is the 100th comment on this video... 😄
WE NEED ANOTHER VIDEO LIKE THIS!!! ❤
If those 3 metal vases/candle holders are real brass, if you get some kind of brass cleaner, you will be amazed at how they will shine with a little elbow grease. We had a very old brass door handle on our front door that was looking blah and blech. Hubby got some kind of brass cleaner -- you just lobbed some on there, left it sit a while and then wipe off and shine with a soft cloth and WOW, it was amazing.
My favorite houses are yellow/blue, yellow/black, and then the green one!
Nice video and great thrifty suggestions. A thought: The screen note that was inserted at 1:09 went by waaay too fast and it took some time to scrub back to read it. It was important to the context of the video. Don’t be shy about allowing a few seconds screen time when you insert an important thought that wasn’t voiced in filming. ❤
Lately I’ve really been digging “thrifting” my own apartment and re-purposing it! For example, an 8-photo frame I don’t care for but for some reason still have I turned into moulds/deckles for papermaking!
That’s a really cool idea.
Orange building. Even if I don't like orange, the shape of it makes it work
Love this video
I would love to know where you keep all your art because mine is taking over the whole house..lol…what do I do with it all..lol…love your art ❤…x
Hey don’t discount your work! “Looks like an expensive piece from anthropology “ Mira! This is original artwork! You are an artist. Your original art is worth more than a print from an overpriced store.
Loved it and it inspired me a lot, I was looking for that perfect cityscape to complement my poem written by me and I think I just found it.
Love it
I now know what my next drawing will be. You will be number 008.
Although I know you don't read comments after 24hrours, this painting sparked my imagination & I wanted to answer anyway. The blue & yellow one looks rhe most like a church, so it's my favorite. I very the parsonage is the other blue house where the pastor lives with their family. I imagine rhe town was built by newly freed slaves who built a peaceful thriving community that's been lovingly maintained by their descendants all this time. It's a community filled with artistsands who cherish doing things by hand & they produce incredible AA art, food food & music.
I love the teal building!!! you are such an amazing artist! I hope you get to go to dinmark! P.S. ware did you go on vacation?
What paper did you use for your paintings. I love how it all turned out especially the plant one.
Would love a series of these.
Omg, you are adorable. I love this. Just found your channel this morning and I thought this was just going to be a fun thrift flip video, which I LOVE, but then you started painting and I was all 😱 “GIRL’S GOT TALENT!!” ❤
I justed subscribe and I want to tell you that you're my favourite RUclipsr 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
New Subscriber.......what type paint are you using, and how do you store the paint that you put on your palette.....doesn't it dry out fast? I don't paint, but doddle.....my granddaughter who is 7 loves to draw and paint.....so I am going to try to encourage her with your videos
OMG woman get yourself a craft knife and metal ruler to cut those paintings down before you wreck your hand with those scissors 😮
New subbie here! Love this idea of a series, that’s why I’m subscribing to your channel. TY!
Love these and love upcycling videos! Where to you get the troll-sized applicators and what are they called? I need them!
Just found your channel. Wow you have some skills
Do you have reasons for not saving bigger pieces of your art paper by lining the shape you want against the edges of the page you trace on? You could have have produced almost both paintings from 1 sheet of art paper. First time meeting you today. Love your work and your quiet enthusiasm. I’ve watched Moriah for several years. She’s a sweetheart and creative, too.
I've only painted on canvas. What are you painting on and then cutting sides away? Thnx
It's such a great idea to upcycle, reuse & repurpose older or outdated items. The prices on your frames seem extremely reasonable. Many second-hand stores seem to be charging exorbitant prices but the stores in your area are pricing correctly. --One thing I noticed Mira, was you did not ~sign, date or title your artwork. Some day an art collector will wish he/she knew your name. -smiles (Keep up the great work)
please make another video like this!!
Hi Mira I really enjoy watching your videos I’m an artist myself
you should make the illustrative cityscape into a print
It is a print! It’s available in my shop. 😁
I apparently need to go to your state to thrift shop. Over here my thrift stores are notorious for making dollar store items $2. Ridiculously over priced thrift stores
This is so FUNNY I just came home from the thrift store with a pile of old frames i am going to fix up also ...i alway clean everything with bleach and water b4 i do anything else to them ...im interested to see if u have any different ideas to me :)...my local thrift store usually have the frames at a stupid price ...way to high for old, usually damaged frames ...so i'm really happy. Apparently, i was the only person buying them and once i stopped the store filled up with frames taking up too much space LOL 😄😄😄😄😄
Mira - Ellie and I would LOVE it if you made this a regular series! We love to go thrifting and are always amazed at the home decor that is priced well and can be up-cycled into something cool.
What is gouache? Is that like acrylic paint? Never heard of it before.
I would love to see this as a series. Also, I loved the yellow house with the blue roof!
Yesss!!! I'm so here for this thrift store makeover / customisation series! ❤ I LOVE the plant painting, it goes so well with that frame. Can't wait to see what you'll do with the other items.
