A RED, RED ROSE by Robert Burns, sung by Andy M. Stewart

- It's one of the Bard of Scotland's great poems, sung by Andy M. Stewart with Gerry Butler as Rabbie Burns. 18th and 19th century Scottish paintings and etchings were adapted as the background, and a number of actresses portray Burns' wife and many loves. One can only hope that the movie about the life of Robert Burns will one day be made. If anyone can do it, Gerry Butler is the man.

Rest in peace Mr. Stewart such talent will not soon be forgotten.
Robert Burns, like so many of the great and mighty poets and artists, taken too young like so many of these great singers of his immortal songs, stirring a love for the Scottish highlands even for those of us who have yet to visit...
The greatest love of my life, my husband, who died far too long ago, dedicated this poem to me and now it always makes my cry because it reminds me of his love for me.
I am moved to tires when I read your message
May his soul rest in eternal peace.... Till a' the seas gang dry 😞😞😞
He is with you. He never left. His love enwraps you and when you dream of him, he is with you. You will meet again.
Andy was inducted posthumously into the Scottish traditional music hall of fame on 3 December 2016.
It's a shame it was posthumously. Andy Stewart is the embodiment of Scots vocal music!!
Agreed! I learned more from Andy than I ever have elsewhere. He taught me that folk signing involved accompanying yourself. We shared a few stories in the Bon Accord bar in Glasgow, and he was the embodiment of humanity and decency. In the Bard's words ... I will love thee still my dear, 'ere the sands o' life shall run? If only we had Andy to sing it for us today ...?
O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That’s sweetly song in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my love,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare thee well, my only Luve
And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.
This is by far the best version I’ve heard and it’s also one of my favourite songs. Brings back happiest memories of my children when they were small and my parents when my my Mum was alive.
The most beautiful love song ever written, composed by a genius. ROBERT BURNS.
He didn't technically write it. it already existed in scottish folk culture, and he, more or less, popularized it (by publishing it) and made it a symbol of their independence from the politically dominant england.
As far as all I've read of Burns he wrote Red, Red Rose.
Burns wrote the POEM. It was a POEM. It was turned into a song (with a chorus, because the poem only had the stanza once) by "modern-day" musicians.
@@koalateacontent5094 what utter nonsense.
@@koalateacontent5094 You have it in reverse. Robert Burns wrote the poem, and then later published it as a song loosely using an already-existing Scottish folk tune. It is with the same respect as Scots Wha Hae, only that tune Tuttie Tatie is far more ancient and can be traced back at the very least to 1314.
Andy Stewart has such an enchanting voice.
This song was listened for the first time in English class when I was a freshman student. Even after so many years passed, I am still so easily touched by its sweet melody and deep feelings of the lyrics… also sang by singer with such a beautiful voice … will last forever in my mind…
sad to here of andy's passing. He was a fantastic artist, who i could listen to all day long.
beautiful picture show to accompany the song. simply wonderful. Andy with his great Robert Burns appropriate voice and the nice background accompaniment.
Who knew a Scot could be so tender!? Just beautiful, and it becomes more pertinent every year I read/listen to it.

‘Though lovers be lost, love shall not,....and death shall have no dominion ‘.......Dylan Thomas
I first fell in love with Robert Burns music when I was twelve and read this poem in English Literature class. In college, PBS had a couple singing many of his songs at the end of Masterpiece Theater. I fell deeper in love with his words and music. A close friend, who has a beautiful tenor voice, sang this at our wedding.

Happy birthday Rabbie, only 37 short years on this planet, yet in another 200 your name will still be honoured. The ploughman poet that taught the world rank means nothing, that we're all brithers. Thank you.
Love this mans singing.
I pray to the gods of Heaven and Earth that this song will remain with us until the sun grows cold. Hearing it for the first time made me weep with longing, longing for that true, that eternal love that we all desire yet so few ever find. Robert Burns, I salute thee!

For a' that, an' a' that,
It's coming yet for a' that,
That Man to Man, the world o'er,

When Andy Stewart or Dougie MacLean sing a Robert Burns song, we learn why these songs have lasted so long. I never had any idea how beautiful a song "Auld Lang Syne" was before I heard MacLean's version.
