Who’s ready for an AWESOME EV SUV drag race?!
We’ve got our hands on the all-new BMW iX, and it’s going head-to-head against some of its key all-electric rivals over the quarter-mile!
The question is, how do they stack up? Well, let’s kick off with the iX, which has the ability to put down 523hp and 765Nm of torque. Naturally, it’s pretty heavy, weighing in at 2,510kg. Alongside it we have the Tesla Model X. It’s not the most powerful edition of the X, but it can still put down 541hp and 755Nm. It’s lighter than the iX, too, at 2460kg.
Next up is the Audi e-tron S, which is the heaviest car here, tipping the scales at 2,620kg. It can still put the power down, however, being able to produce 503hp and a HUGE 970Nm! Then finally we have the Mercedes EQC. It’s the least powerful car, with the ability to put down 408hp & 760Nm. However, it’s also the lightest, at 2,420kg.
So will the Tesla's power output catapult it to victory? Or could the EQC spring a surprise? There's only one way to find out - LET'S RACE!

It's irrelevant because they are braking when they reach the line, it doesn't have to be in the same time, just the same point. One can be 1,2, 1.000.000 second behind, still at the line is the braking start point. Hope you got it! Nice day!

The Audi has the performance that matters : quick reaction for overtaking and good brakes for slowing down quickly. It's also the better looking car in this group. But that BMW interior though. So, Audi e-tron or BMW iX? I'm torn in the valley of decision.

Well the BMW engineers know their customers. It's got all the power on the top end which is exactly what BMW drivers need while weaving between cars without signaling at 100+ mph on the freeway.

People, how often do we need to say this: brakes have nothing to do with brake distance on cold discs and relative low speeds. Brake friction is far higher than tire friction. Thats why ABS engages.

Can't wait for the real-world range test of all these cars. Great race, the iX gets let down by the speed limiter but great performance. The Audi's braking surprised me 🤯. Interesting fact, in South Africa the iX (xDrive40) is the cheapest among these

The EQC is already in South Africa by Mercedes-Benz Sandton but it's for display and the price range will start from R1,2 million.

Terrible range make it not worth it if you ever leave town. I drove both Audi and BMW and ordered iX.
The EQC did pretty well considering it is based on the GLC platform and was not meant to be an electric platform in the first place.

@@MKRM27 The BMW has its own platform for sure, i just checked on the Audi and it apparently is on a modular platform that is also used for conventional cars. But i could not find if that specific spec is also used for combustion cars.

Considering the Mercs pricetag and that it has the least power by 100 horses and also the smallest battery it did quite well rangewise and in the races
Electric cars lose most of the range while going at very high speeds... The merc was slow enough that it was a going a good 20-30 mph slower almost in all races... Thus losing less battery

@@andreaspoellinger Except we don't know how Merc calculates their battery drain. Like for instance, iPhones stay very long at 100% yet deplete much faster later on. iPhones try to show a lower battery % when you lock your phone so you don't see it happen.
EQC is one class smaller. Competes with BMW iX3, Tesla Model Y.

Audi was my first luxury car (in which I sat and did almost nothing though), but I love the dynamics of the car...smooth, functional and less maintenance cost then it's German counterparts.
Historically, Audi is the most expensive of all 3. As of one of the latest surveys and studies, Audi is 24% more expensive to maintain than Mercedes, and 10% more expensive than BMW. That's a bit of a shocker as well, because BMW is typically the cheapest of the three to maintain, but Audi has always been leagues beyond more expensive to maintain than both its competitors.

as a driver of an iX 50 I can tell you it's a total pleasure to drive. from the suspensions to the 4 wheels steering. pity for the voice control. understands only Burmese.
In the stats, please include the drive train, like, "One Rear motor". This was electrifying drag race.

Saw a BMW IX in all black on the road a couple of days ago and unlike in the photos on the road the car looked absolutely stunning from all angles! Out of this bunch and if I was ever to spend 100k on an EV SUV it's the one I would get.

Unlike others here, I agree with you. It would be my pick. The Audi just looks like a beefy Q4. Not enough distinction between their models imho. The BMW has got the novel quirk factor (teleported back from the future) and looks much better in the flesh than I expected. But each to their own it's all totally subjective. That Mercedes has a top speed of 115mph with 408hp, the Peugeot 207 that I drive has the same top speed with 95hp.
But your Pug would be about half a mile behind when the eq400 reaches it's top speed
@@golf1diesel That's well obvious, but I've only posted that comment to illustrate the fact that EVs have embarassingly low top speeds; The Pininfarina Batista makes 2000hp, and its estimated top speed is 220mph, the same as a 740hp Lamborghini Veneno, and far less than a 30 year old McLaren F1 with less that 1/3 of the Pininfarina's power. Of course if my Peugeot had 408hp and AWD it would beat that Mercedes even in terms of acceleration, a Golf 8 R for example completes the 1/4 mile in 12.3 seconds and has a top speed of about 170mph, with 320hp.

That's basic version, 5 years old Tesla on stock brakes vs 2021 Audi S. The proper comparison would be with 2022 Model Y Performance. Yes, Model Y, because X is bigger 7 seater.

It is literally the old and non performance model so it is pretty handicapped compared to these, as the Plaid would likely be unfair with how fast it is, and you cant buy one in the uk :(

Based on the weight it is probably the 100D X, the fastest non performance version. And He also explained in the video UK doesn’t have the latest facelift specifically to you butt hurt Tesla fanboys. Learn to pay attention.

The Audi has the performance for real life acceleration benefit. Its the 4 seconds of full power that counds, anything after that isn't realistic on public roads.
But we still bought the IX and love it.

The inside of that iX is reason enough to go for it. I've sat in it and it's just such a heavenly place to be. The others are to be polite "classic" interiors.

Actually only the Audi S is defined officially by the manufacturer in the performance segment.
iX 50 is a normal BMW, the iXm60 is in the M performance segment, no M power currently.

@@adrenalinejunkie3828 Edmunds ran 11.8 on their instrumented test, several others have done 11.8 too. Everyone uses the one foot roll out, not just Tesla but their times are easy to verify

There is a big problem though. The new Model X long range would definitely beat all of the other cars in the drag race, but in the US, the Model X Is $22k more expensive than the IX and has an est. Delivery of January 2023 and that’s in the US let alone the UK.

I think the Tesla has a top speed of 155 mph, it’s just that the long range must not have enough power to reach it in one mile.
In shorter races, the other cars will beat the Tesla, but in longer ones the Tesla with it’s higher top speed will beat them all.
And that’s an old model X. I want to see how other cars compare to the plaid. That car is madness

@@speedshifter how? That was the slowest version of the old generation X. The rest are brand new bleeding edge for the inherent companies. The new long range X wouldve obliterated these and the Plaid isn't even worth mentioning considering the old gen Performance X as they mentioned wouldve smashed their bag. That being said I LOVE Audi

You should add a benchmark to every drag race , just stick a golf GTi in every race . Without a benchmark it's hard to see how fast these cars are when they are all alike . Plus it would be cool to see standard/normal cars get smoked 👍
Golf R makes more sense, coz its 4x4 and automatic. Also these cars are little bit slower than golf r.

I’m almost 100% sure that Tesla’s suspension wasn’t set to Very Low. It’s only with the suspension at its lowest that Tesla delivers its full power!! It’s not the first time that happens and it’s a shame!

I have to compliment you for mentioning this is the old Tesla model. You don't have to be cheeky about it, it's an important detail. Also, what is the point of giving it's price, when it's not the car you'll get for that price? It suggests it's the current price and the current car when it's not. We are talking about Tesla here, but I would say the same if you did this with any other car.
