    Have been driving etron for 2 years now. Lovely car. Low efficiency is fine for my lifestyle. The other two cars are significantly more expensive. When I test drove them, MX didn't feel special. iX was awesome. I like the styling too but it is too big for my needs. With that size I would like a third row

    I had one of the first 3,000 Model X’s made. A Tesla engineer once told me that the first 5,000 X’s were basically made by hand. Consequently, I never had any of the build quality or mechanical issues with the falcon wing doors. Sold it a couple of months ago for a Ford F-150 Lightning. I have nothing but great things to say about the X, though I think it took them several years to catch up to the quality of the ones they built by hand in the early deliveries.

    Is the e-Tron actually all that inefficient when you look at real-world data? My 2021 averages 2.8 mi/kWh in high-speed interstate cruising (~240 mi range) and as high as 3.6 mi/kWh in 30 mph stop-and-go traffic (~300 mi range). You have to know how to drive it and take advantage of true coasting with two induction motors by paying attention to terrain and flow of traffic and keep it in Dynamic mode for the lower ride height (10% efficiency advantage over Auto).

      @t1328 Год назад +1

  • @symawd

    I had both a 19 and 21 e-tron and loved them both. There's nothing else as comfortable to get into and just relax on your drive. It's honestly the best car I've ever had to live with and it's any absolute beast in the snow.
    I briefly had a model 3 performance and now have a GV60 performance and truthfully, the e-tron's shorter range didn't matter. I have a 280 mile round trip commute so no matter what, I need one charge to make it in any car.

    • @Wasabi9111
      @Wasabi9111 2 года назад

      How does the etron compare to the gv60?
      We were shopping for a new car for my dad in 2019. He wanted the ultimate isolation hwy cruiser and the etron prestige would have been perfect - especially since he doesn’t drive long distances anymore. But at the time, we didn’t know anything about EVs (besides Tesla) so my dad ended up getting a fully loaded x5 w air suspension and acoustic windows, etc. he traded it in recently for an Ioniq 5 which he loves. But it’s a little too low for his aging knees. The etron would have been perfect. But it’s hard to justify paying msrp+ on the etron now considering we could Have gotten $20k discounts on the prestige back in 2019.

    • @symawd
      @symawd 2 года назад +5

      @@Wasabi9111 Like Kyle said, the e-tron is like driving a bank vault. It feels like a true luxury car and is honestly probably the most comfortable car I've ever had.
      The GV60 has all of the same luxury features and is super quiet and well built, but for some reason you just don't get that same luxury feeling as in the e-tron. I think Savage Geese said it best, it's like someone described luxury to the GV60 designers but they never actually felt it. The GV60 is an amazing car, but the e-tron is just truly exceptional in the feeling of luxury and comfort it provides.

    Good review. I don’t think I would never select the Tesla because of cost and styling. The windshield comes up too high and would be a lousy experience driving if the sun was shining in my eyes continually. The Audi e-tron sounds like a nice care unless the suspension is too floating. I remember driving a Lincoln Town car with air suspension and the floating cycle started getting to my stomach. I actually like the looks of BMW iX 60. But the control knob area might drive me crazy and perhaps the steering wheel. I really have to drive a car before I buy. I don’t understand how people are buying Rivian’s and Ford Lightning without a test drive.

  • @updlate4756
    @updlate4756 2 года назад +7

    The iX definitely has some design issues and quirks, but many of the issues you're specifically taking with the car have to do with it being the M60. Harsher suspension and harsher pedal feel are both M60 tuning issues that other reviewers have complained about. It has a lot of positives; the interior is super nice, the HUD is nice. The infotainment is solid, but could be improved further. However, I kind of take issue with 'settings location'. How often will an owner mess with the settings once they have it all setup? The mapping software could be better, but with Android Auto / Apple Carplay, I imagine it's fine. The steering wheel really depends on preferred hand placement. Some have said it's amazing, some say they don't like it. I do like that you can get multiple different paint, wheel, and interior color / fabric options for either free or for a low price. The blue fabric option looks amazing; even if you can't get ventilated seats with it.
    The seats should have more bolstering and better thigh extension. Another odd oversight. There's no excuse for the hard to reach front cup holder location and I don't understand why they left that gap between the center console and front of the wheel well for things to roll between. That space is essentially unusable except as extra foot room or pet walkthrough. It was a missed opportunity where they could have added more storage, where they could have pushed the cup holders more forward and higher, or could have put in an extra glove box. Removing the reflective crystal controls is no longer an option due to BMW's new options package setup. Reflective stuff inside a car's interior is literally the dumbest blunder a car company can make. IMO, they should have gone with a high quality wooden knob and wooden seat controls... maybe a darker contrasting wood to what's on the wood panel. Now that would have been really nice. It would have added to the lounge cozy feel. The only option may be to wrap it.
    The removal of the B&W system from the M50 is a major blunder, meant only to try and push people into the more expensive M60 trim; although I hear the standard system is fine. The rear storage could have been better, but the door hinge placement eats up some space, and the lack of side storage seems like a silly oversight. Door closing sound could definitely be better. The radiant heating in both front and back may be a game changer once this is tested in the winter.
    While there are some obvious blunders and missed opportunities in the BMW, I still think it's the best value for money... at least until the refreshed e-tron gets here; which will supposedly see a huge jump in range. I guess we'll see how price is affected. The e-tron is probably the best daily driver, but its really been handcuffed its demand primarily due to its weak efficiency and sparse range.

    • @updlate4756
      @updlate4756 2 года назад +2

      Real quick... when you're talking about car ownership... it really is a culmination of little things that can determine how someone feels about the vehicle. This is why it was such a shame the amount of criticism Audi got for their e-tron when it first came out. At that time, the EV media made it all about range, and didn't consider any other specs on the vehicle before crapping all over it. You really should go more into livability differences. For daily driving, sound system is actually a huge deal. Handling. Navigating a parking lot or backing into a driveway / garage. Camera quality and usability in both day and night. Highway road noise. How does it handle bumps? How's the traction control in winter? Comfort getting in and out? Long term seat comfort? How well does it hold the lane on the highway and how easily can you pass? Preciseness of lane placement? How does the cruise control and/or ADAS system perform in various situations? How is cabin comfort in the winter? Some cars have cold spots in the foot well for example.
      BTW, asking the buyers opinion of a guy who's channel name is "Tesla Flex", who owns a model X, and is probably a Tesla shareholder... ummm... I think it's a hard sell to say bias isn't gonna come into play. You personally own a Tesla, but you and Alyssa both own multiple vehicle brands, so I do think you have less bias on this front than a clear Tesla fan / investor / youtube content provider. Maybe instead of bringing along a Tesla person, you get some friends who have no skin in the game and don't currently own electric vehicles at all. Let them drive the vehicles, and let them say what they would spend their money on.

      @@updlate4756 Good point beside on the Audi. I remember the e-tron going into development around the same time as BMW, atleast I think not massivly earier and that sounded strange. How is their car already finished when bmw like waited and waited with the release.
      It was like AMG mercs in the old days, BMW fine tuned M-s atleast a year after the basic model was out, but the AMG-s were out the same day as basic promising to be just as good.
      E-tron did have quality issues because of that I think. But maybe all are fixed.

    my issue with the iX is that i'd rather just get an X5 and save some money for a better looking car with the same comfort. With the Model X it is one of the very few EVs with a usable third row.

    • @kkgolf5371
      @kkgolf5371 2 года назад

      X5 does not have the same comfort at all. The ride and quietness is far superior in the iX. Overtime you will pay for all that gas and the maintenance. The insurance is cheaper with the iX as well.

    • @cwang9915
      @cwang9915 2 года назад

      @@kkgolf5371 Well, I voted with my wallet. I actually had reserved an iX and this was when it still qualified for the $7,500 tax credit. In the end I felt that I was really paying $30k more for an iX over a X5. I would never get that back.
      Also I hated that it lacked a frunk not necessarily that I need it but that it meant that it wasn't nearly as well engineered as EVs that have a frunk.
      In the end I went with the Plaid X.
      I have reservations for R1S and Lucid Air to replace my Y. Lucid for its efficiency and enormous rear leg room and R1S because it has an even better 3rd row but sacrificing efficiency.

    Great comparison quickie, thanks. I would love to see you do a charging video in a Tesla that challenges the Tesla network. By that I mean, drive the car off the main highways. Plan a route that has very few Tesla charge stations and see how you have to adapt to make it over those empty regions. For example: South on 285 out of Denver, charge at Poncha Springs then arrive in Durango and use the CCS adapter at one of 2 chargepoint fast charge stations. If you want to continue on to the Grand Canyon, you can't go through the Navajo Reservation on State 160 as there are no charge stations. There's a great Tesla station in Tusayan but getting there is sketchy. Anyway, see what it's like and drive safely.
