Last summer I found two partial old style blue coin books in a tiny US antique shop in Sacketts Harbor. One was full of King George V Pennies and the other King George V nickels. Don’t think any of the rare ones, but each set only cost me $1 US, so I count it a win.

That's amazing! The oldest Canadian nickel I've gotten was a 1946. I also praise your knowledge of US coins. I feel like most American coin roll hunters don't take as much time to go through the history and numismatics when they find Canadian coins as you do with US coins. I wish they'd talk about them equally!

Fun to watch and was getting excited as you opened each roll. Hope you could find a 1925-6. I started to collect coins when I was a kid in New Brunswick in the 50’s. Even then I never found a 1925-6. I had plenty of the other dates. I am now 80 and just got the bug again a year ago. Last spring I got 20 rolls of nickels from the bank. Seven of them were old rolls and I couldn’t believe it they were 1937-8-9 40’s & 50’s I was blown away. I think I only got three King George V’s but what a find with quite a few in excellent shape. Thanks again I enjoyed watching as you were checking each coin like I may have been doing it. 😀

The KGV's were in a collection dump as there were several KGVI nickels as well. This was very fun to watch. I love your enthusiasm and I have to say, nickels are my favorite as well. You're lucky to have bank tellers who will set older coins aside for you. In my experience here in the States, bank tellers will usually set older coins and silver for the Manager. A while back I had an opportunity to go through several rolls of Unc Elizabeth 5 cent coins from the early 1960s. There were 3 rolls of 1964s, but no extra WL. However, there was one coin in the 1960 roll. It was a bare beaver in Unc. Over the years I also been able to find some of the other varieties. I've also been able to find a 1925 and a 1926 Far 6 in an accumulation of KGV 5 cent pieces, along with the remainder of the dates from 1920-1936.

    • @CADRollHunter

Took me a second when you said "🐇 nickel" hehe. I'm not super sure if I even own one of those. The centennials are always cool; they were nice designs for those.
It would be cool to hunt coins up there again; I gathered up quite a few Voyageurs & half dollars during my Canada trip in 2015 when I drove up to Nanaimo. None were silver, but back to the year afterward, and many were in immaculate condition. I did get lucky and found 7 Canadian pennies down here in Texas in the last penny box I did.
Congrats on that US war nickel, 0.05626 TrOz worth of Ag. >>;=)

Exciting nickel rolls, with US silver, and many KG Vs... The only silver War nickel I ever found was in a "loose change" coin box in a black garbage bag downstairs my apartment building... It was a 1945 war nickel. There was also a 1964 USA dime 90% silver, and a 1950s Canadian silver dime. There was a hoard of copper pennies, a few Mexican foreign coins, lots of US coins. There was overall $20 face value, with nothing dated past 1984. A great time capsule of my teenage years looking through coins. After that find, I seriously resumed CRH, and it's been over 2 years now. If people trash treasures, there might be some rolled back to the bank...

@CADRollHunter Very much so. I have a 1931 & a 1935. Which one would be better in regards to value and/or rarity. This is a bit off the nickel subject, but why is the NB 92 the same value as the rest of the provincial quarters? Wouldn't you think that the mintage figure would come into play here? Doesn't make sense to me that an Ontario 14 million is more valuable than a New Brunswick one with a little over 2 million minted? What could possibly explain that?

@@colinbernard789 The 1931 and 1935 are both relatively common (at least for hard-to-find King George V coins, that is). While the 1935 is a lower mintage, the 1931 seems to command a bit of a higher price. I suppose that's because it's older and harder to find in higher grades. As for the quarters, the fact that they're all valued the same has to do with the fact that they're all plentiful in a mint state. Most folks held them aside when they were released, so you can easily find any of them in great condition, including the NB. If most of them were in circulated condition, then I think you'd see a spread in the prices between the NB and the other coins.

I still have the 1915 5 cent piece I found metal detecting. If you're interested in it, please let me know.

Great question. I don't think they're interested! They know I do RUclips videos, and they'll occasionally ask me if I've found anything interesting of valuable. The other day, one of the tellers told me he'd watched a part of one of my videos. If you're not into coins, though, it might be hard to sit through!! ;)
