Growing up in the East Bay and now in SF, I never appreciated the Viet culture and food until a few years ago. After the one time I took my mom and two aunts down to SJ, they unveiled to me so many of the restaurants markets that you can't find anywhere else in the Bay Area. Between the authenticity and the prices, I am more than ready to make that hour drive to hit up a great bowl of BBH, some garlic bread banh mi, and sugar cane juice.
Thanks always searching for new Vietnamese restaurants I found one right around the corner from my house. I have been eating there consistently for a while, but I’d like to expand my boundaries.
Born and raised in San Jose, but I admittedly never tried much Vietnamese food regularly until college a decade ago. I have a couple usual spots, but I'm always looking for new spots. Thanks for the video
In the 80s my parents and I used to loooove going to San Jose to shop the Asian markets close to East ridge mall. Back in those days East ridge mall was the bomb place to go.
Amazing food tour. You nailed some of the popular places in San Jose but I’m surprise Pho is not on your list. All the OG from San Jo will know Pho54 off Alum Rock. Any references of an OG indicate just how long this place has been in business. Love the history it added to the bay and the Vietnamese community.
The best bbh is at Bun Bo Hue An Nam right across from vietnam town! Notably better than Hue Restaurant's. You gotta include Vietnamese coffee next time too, I think the strongest one I've had is at Tram's Cream Coffee.
I grew up in the "Lion Villa" Apartments situated right next to Lion Plaza on S. King Road. I have fond memories of playing Chinese jump rope with my Asian friends, savoring Asian cuisine, and being immersed in a rich Asian cultural environment from a very early age. I spent time in the laundromat near Lee's Sandwiches and still recall how the area looked before the new construction transformed it. As a kid, I loved exploring Lion Plaza especially since we discovered a secret entryway from the apartments' tennis courts directly into the plaza-it felt like our little adventure spot!

Oc Lau Nuong is easily one of my favorite spots for an authentic and satisfying meal. While this Vietnamese seafood restaurant is known for its incredible seafood dishes, their Bo Luc Lac is pretty good too. Definitely check it out-you won’t be disappointed!
OH SHIT, I stopped by Hot Boy Chili Oil’s stand at the Little Saigon Night Market. It’s absolutely insane, and even my partner who hates heat and sensitive to it loves it. Glad you’re also giving Bo Ne the recognition it deserves too!!
Didn’t realize there were more Vietnamese in SJ than in Houston! I’m up in SF and felt like the Vietnamese scene was much smaller, didn’t realize I just needed to drive south. That said… I’m a sucker for garlic noodles now.
SFs community is much smaller but still some amazing stuff in the area. Tu Lan and Pho Tan Hoa were spots I went to a lot when I used to work in the area. Bodega SF is doing a great job with a newer gen too
Alex is the first vietnamese i have ever seen with a full facial beard. I cant even grow beard. Bun Rieu married Bun Bo Hue = one hot delicious family. 😊😅
LOL.. I'm full Viet and currently also have a full beard.. I'm sure a few of my uncles are a little jealous because they can't grow anything much either. 😂 Also born and raised in San Jose.
Fantastic episode. Thank you! Just moved back to San Jose after living two decades down in SoCal and was afraid of missing out on good Vietnamese food. Went to Duc Huong yesterday and it did not disappoint!
For me I was born and raised in SF. I am Filipino. My wife is Vietnamese and she is from Phan Thiet. I have flown to Saigon and visited Phan Thiet three times this year. I want to try that chilli oil in this video. In my opinion the food tastes way better in Vietnam than it does in the US. I think it is because the food in Saigon is fresh. Can someone tell me where I can buy the chilli oil? I want to bring that chii oil to Vietnam so that my wife's family can try it. Represent the US with that chilli oil while I am in VN.
I'm from San Jose but moved up to Seattle for work and I really really miss some good Vietnamese food. Other than Vietnam, there really isn't anything like San Jose and the OC. Hit up some com tam next time, the place i used to go is called Com Tam Dat Thanh... I miss it 😭
I believe the stat is San Jose has the largest Vietnamese population in a single city outside of Vietnam itself, however the OC as a whole has a largest Vietnamese community.
Yup, I think these were the figures I was seeing online too when I was confirming it lol. Not gonna debate it though, love both areas and eating in the OC whenever I’m down there

I used to go to the bahn mi places near San jose state and get their grilled pork banh mi for 2 dollars because broke college student.
Rice plate placeCơm Tấm Thiên Hương and pandan waffle place Nước Mía Viễn Đông 2 are the best too! i agree with this list except CA bakehouse😅

Keep going. Love the videos showing spots I've been to and need to try.

I’ll check it out next time! Appreciate the rec
Thanks for sharing some of the good places to eat. We drove to SJ like every other week and hit the same few spots, but we're looking for new one.
Really fun to see several of my favorite spots shown in this video. Was hoping to see some com tam and che favorites.

Thank you, looking forward to trying out some of these places! ❤
Fantastic video as always! SJ is the place for great Vietnamese food. We used to hang out at SJSU back in the 90s. Cheers!
Appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed the video!

That’s wassup lol they’re good people. Thanks for watching!
You should have gone to Dalat if you wanted Hu Tieu. If you're after Hu Tieu Nam Vang, then Nam Vang is the place to be. The OGs know where to go!
Always a good day when Victor releases a new video. Thanks, Victor!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!

The Bo Ne at the Lion Plaza is probably the best one I've ever had.
All the places I love! Only place I haven’t tried is the Huey tew, but I love that stuff!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic
Nice! I am originally from essj and i carry my viet roots to Livermore. Lmk if you’re ever in the area. I own a food truck so itll be fun.
I always have to visit the Vietnamese spots when I'm in town!
try Pho Ha Noi in the shopping plaza across from Duc Huong
The sizzling hot plate looked oh so good. The Viet Chinese in me wanna just reach into the screen and grab every morsel of deliciousness lol!

I had a full beard and body hair when I was like 17 I was so ashamed and embarrassed. I got over it though lol.
my dad grew up beard at a younger age then me but I still can’t I’m Viet too btw
I love it here!!!
Have you tried Buon Me Cafe? Fun place to try.
Not yet but will add to my list! Looks good
From your video intro showed razor clams on a sizzling dish. Where is that restaurant please?
I am sorry, what is the name of the first dish, some sort of noodle dish from Leung Noodle?
DAMNNN I need to try Pandan everything at CA Bakehouse....looked insanely good
Thanks for watching!

I now realize how spoiled i have been for food culture growing up in San Jose. (This is me just finishing my sandwich from duc huong).
Please tell me more of the night market, schedule and when?
I think the night market was only over the summer!
Where can I purchase your hot chilli oil? Thank you.
Man, you hit all my spots so you must be legit. You showed a clip of pho Hanoi but you didn’t include in the vid. That’s one of the best pho places.
Thanks for watching!
My grandma lives a mile away from Little Saigon

The most important dish you forgot is com tam aka broken rice. Saigon is known for. Go to Thien Huong next time and thank me later
Did I see you at SL costco yesterday?
maybe lol
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
brotha tell me you are Victor G on Yelp with that white suit profile pic. haha. If so, you be everywhere!
Nah I don’t really go on Yelp lol that’s not me
So delicious

OC is cheaper and more delicious in my opinion. But SJ does have good spots too. Easily the best 2 Vietnamese communities outside of Vietnam.
Nice video.
OC’s Viet population is 184,153. 😉
I believe the stat is San Jose has the largest Vietnamese population in a single city outside of Vietnam itself, however the OC as a whole has a largest Vietnamese community.
Yup, I think these were the figures I was seeing online too when I was confirming it lol. Not gonna debate it though, love both areas and eating in the OC whenever I’m down there
You’re trying to compare a city to an entire county? 😂
Little Saigon is in Little Mexico 🤣😂
I thought Santa Ana was?
👍
Asians brighten every place they populate. This is case in point.
We like Qpot cuz it’s all h can eat hot pot and KBBQ😋
not Vietnamese though. lol.. but yea.. popular spot nonetheless.
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
lol im from san jose
Leung noodle is in the East ridge area nowhere near evergreen
Orange County is the biggest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam.
Appreciate the Vietnamese food love but you need to pronounce beef correctly. Sounds like you saying 'bowl' when it should sound more like 'ball'.
👍
The wrong pronunciation of these dishes makes me cringe.
My b I’m not Vietnamese and obviously can’t speak the language either but trying to just share what I can with the food I enjoy
@@HiDidYouEatYetignore the hater dude, love the content
Sorry to say sac has better Viet food than SJ
