  • RIOT HAS A BIG REWORK PROBLEM - League of Legends. Riot's plan for updating old champions with full VGUs or just ASUs isn't very viable considering the current pace of currently reworking only 2-3 champions/year while over 30 champions need a visual update. What can Riot do to speed it up and where can they take inspiration from apart from the already made updates for most champions from Legends of Runeterra or Wild Rift.

ye reworks is taking a lot of work bit its not as difficult if you work with existing concept to me that you have no idea how it will look like in the end, also at this point league has 166 champs, i don't think for Ip we need more (they make champ pool vide as ocean and deep as puddle), at this point i think player base would prefer increase game quality bar on average with 5-6 ASu/reworks a year and reduce new champs number to 2 year, at least for few years, by the time they finish MMO will be out :)

Exactly, it's a catch 22. But honestly I just think the solution is devoting a team to do SOMETHING with the pizza feet champs otherwise the problem only festers the longer time goes on and as Remus said a bandaid solution of simply porting the already done work of the Wild Rift models on PC is better than no solution at all.
Again, this is a problem that can start being alleviated now rather than the current strategy of "later" where there's an ever increasing gulf in fidelity and quality between new champs and old champs and the current strategy is absolutely not a tenable solution longterm.
All it takes is devoting a little foresight and resources to it. The appeal of the novel and shiny new champ/skin is strong I know but can we not forget the 50-60+ champs we have already that have been in the game for 6 or more years please?

And it's not like we are getting a lot of new champs, 4 this year. Granted we will be getting some changes to the map, Baron and Herald (current Shelly looks better imo) update, and a new monster. Still think they could pull back on skins a bit, give older champs ASU's, and just re-release some legacy skins, it's not like ppl wouldn't buy them. An ASU is more than enough for champions like Cho, Zilean, Amumu and basicly half the names mentioned at the beginning. And yes, the reason popularity for those champions is so low is mainly because of their appearance. • @supertaakot
    @supertaakot 9 месяцев назад +12

The bigger problem is actually the higherups imo. They are stuck up and don't want to greenlight concepts that could not net them immense money from FOMO. I've understood this for a while, even going as far back as the LCU (League Client Update) like 8 years ago, but a good example recently is Nidalee's voice update - the designers literally had to convince the corporate execs with tooth, nail, blood, sweat, tears, f*ng whatever you want to add here, in order to get a simple voice update out. It's really depressing. Everyone hopes they do reconsider stepping up with champion updates.
Obligatory: game needs fewer new champs. They have been slowing down lately, but the updates are slowing down as well. Not that new champs are bad. Just that the game needs more champs that already exist to be seen. Both in gameplay and in the universe. It seems every new champ takes like a year on average for design and art, and they delegate the design work to a specific team; this team is then occupied by the new champion. Then when narrative and concepts are done and they are passed to engineering, they have only A SINGLE team working on each section (one audio team, one VFX team, one balance team, one marketing team); this means that the new champ takes all of their work.
Generally the LoL section of the company just lacks employees - *despite* the budget - and not only is this due to (again) corporate execs doing le funny cutoffs whenever they know they can get away with it, but also because of lack of hands and brains in the market that have expertise especially in/available in LA. For game designers specifically, they also use a very deprecated and limited engine which has shown its age very sharply. They have to train employees for a whole semester for them to just intern at the company. Riot is an extremely extremely idiosyncratic/particular company, which is why they are on the top of the (no pun intended) game. But another factor for why we are here rn is STILL the result of the pandemic and gaming companies' massive layoffs for-whatever-reason double whammy in the 2020-2022 range. I see a lot of new Rioters this year though, which is a decent direction.
    It's all connected.

Their explanations are them just talking around and mostly just merchant-lies.there should be 10 ASUs und 5 reworks a year at least as this point. They should feel ashamed of themselves that after over 10 years SO MANY are so outdated they can’t even closely rival with models from dota, hots and i think even smite. But some of their whales are like blizzards and that’s a big issue too… ppl should buy skins for old/outdated champs and don’t buy new champs and skins immediately. To push the cruel/greedy financial department to action. I stopped giving Riot my money years ago when I read their pathetic arguments for such a big company nowadays and where the money goes. It’s sad. we already have so many champions and there really is no sense to add more especially 4 each year. Put this energy and time into updating the game on one equal level instead and if they still beg to release a new champion for whatever reason then it should be just one new champ each year and again AT LEAST 10 ASUs and 5 VGUs at least.

For the works necessary, reworking really doesn't make lots of money compare to making new skins or new champs.
Lots of older skins are cheap because of the quality, but then if you rework a champion you'll need a proper art and model sometimes new effects, while it still sells at the low price, not to say lots of people probably already own them.
If they're giving a gameplay update then they have to be careful to not piss off the people than mains those champs as well.

Also the idea of just throwing money into it to get more people doesn't seem like a great practical idea tbh.

People who thirsted over her were into her.
People who enjoyed lore enjoyed the new/expansion they did with Runeterra's world.
Her rework reveals/trailers/spotlights have made millions of views to increase popularity and demand.
Imagine someone like Leblanc who would have the same effect?!
People would thirst, obviously. Fanservice is still positive service I guess.
BUT LEBLANC is a MAJOR force in the Runterra lore for Noxus and so many champions in and out of the city!! I need more mysteries revealed on Leblanc's plans!!! I need more Black Rose references(give me more Elise interactions too, selfishly).
But all of that combined would increase exposure and focus so much attention into the work put into the world of LoL. IT's WORTH IT!
But no, please make more $200 skin recolors.

Hunt: Showdown is the best example on how riot should handle it, they are currently changing Hunt to the latest version of the cryengine after they rebuilt their WHOLE GAME, we are talking KILOMETERS of maps, compounds, bosslayers, houses, woodhouses, forests, tools, skins, weapon-skins, legendary-hunters (basically hunter skins with build in random perks), throwables, weapons, furniture, maptextures, bosses, artworks for EVERYTHING, developed a PS5 and xbox series version of it and so much more at the same time in less than 1 year. A small studio like crytek rebuilt their whole fcking game all while still running the show on live-servers with a new event coming today and more content getting put into it like new guns, skins, with patch 1.15 a new map and riot cant get shit done.

Most of the devs want to make better choices for the game, but corporate is basically forcing them to put terrible dogshit things in the game like the $200 jhin chroma, or complete lack of ASUs. I fully believe that if the dev team were given free reign to do what they want, the game would be WAY better. All I'm saying is, dont blame the devs, blame RIOT corporate.
