  • A very enjoyable and slightly damp session spent at Woking station on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway and freight from GBRF.
    Woking is an incredible station with so much traffic coming through its almost difficult to keep up at the best of times, the views that you get going towards London are amazing and if the weather was to play ball then I could've ventured further down the platform.
    Woking was built in 1838 by the London and South Western Railway and at first was known as Woking Common. When it was built it was originally a terminus station and only became a through station 4 months later when the line was extended to Winchfield. Woking Common was renamed to Woking in 1843, Woking is a junction station serving the South Western Mainline, Portsmouth Direct line and the West of England Mainline towards Salisbury.
    Woking became a junction station when the Guildford Junction Railway was opened in 1845, the line was immediately operated by London and South Western Railway and the railway line was absorbed by the company in the same year.
    The signal box found here is a grade 2 listed building which means it cannot be tampered with and any work that needs to be done to the building needs to have the authorization to do so and the repair work must match the design of the current building.
    My next station is Reading.

  • @liftylu

    Interesting combination on that Weymouth service. May be the 444 that was meant to be at the front wasn’t because of it requiring maintenance or something? I mean on the 15:00 service to Weymouth. where are the numbers on the 455 units? When I did Clapham junction, and saw those for the first time, a family member, who I was with, was trying to get the numbers of them, but couldn’t work out where to look.

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  4 года назад

      I wouldn't know really, I mean they have such a vast fleet that they could have just stuck the next available unit onto the 444 which happened to be the 450

    • @liftylu
      @liftylu 2 года назад

      @@Tornado922 Yeah, maybe, but you wouldn’t often see a 450 and a 444 unless a service was short formed.

  • @josephharrison8354
    @josephharrison8354 4 года назад

    You know, I've never actually understood the difference between the 444 and the 450, or the fact that there are four 350 subclasses. Would you be able to elucidate?

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  4 года назад

      The 444 is a 5 car variation of the popular Siemens units used primarily for the longer intercity runs on the network. The interior design of the train has been made just so to accommodate as many commuters as possible. The class 450 is a third rail only variant of the class 350 with standard seating found throughout and a first class area at the front or rear of the set. Each one contains two toilets. The class 350 has been done in 4 variations, the class 350/4 has been done in an intercity layout which allows for catering trolleys to pass through it, this was done because they initially started their life with Transpennine Express but will eventually come down the line to work with London Northwestern Railway. The other 3 variations of the class 350 all have top speeds of 110mph however the 350/1 is a dual power mode unit, it runs off catenary and third rail via a 'shoe'. When they first entered service they were actually running with southern until they got more 377 units. Once they were returned to Silverlink they then started running off their pantographs. The other two unit types have different seating layouts and only run off the pantograph. Hope that helps
