Thank you, Liz, for this detailed teaching on propagation of PVN. You are so patient teaching us how you do it. I will re-watch it lest I miss some important points. 😍😘
Fascinating! I’ve been growing and propagating PVN with success for about a year but I’ve never had one flower! They do propagate very easily and are so beautiful!
I really do appreciate you for posting this video on how to propagate PVN, This doesn’t come out from my research. It just talks of general Echeveria or succulents propagation. I made a mistake of following those propagation methods, applied them to my PVN and from September 2020 until now, nothing comes out satisfactory. Now I can breath easy. Thank you so much! I can start this spring to at least produce PVN enough to fill a large size container. That’s my goal! 😍
My first year of propagating PVN...I plucked the leaves at the end of May(Autumn). Then I plucked some leaves in December(Summer). The ones plucked in December overtook the ones grown in May.
HI Liz. I don't have any issues with mealy bugs. My succulents are outside all year long (Southern Sicily, 500 meters away from Mediterannean sea) where they receive plenty of sun and moisture in nights ( due to very close sea). If I buy a new plant with mealybugy, what hapens often, I spray plant with either ethanol (alcohol we drink or use for cleaning at home) or 2-propanol (known in USA as rubbing alcohol). Alcohol should be minimum 70% volume/volume versus water (e.g. 3 cups of water and 7 cups of alcohol). This eliminates all mealybugs immediately and none plant was ever damaged. This is also how I treat my lemon trees which are sometimes under attack of aphids. These alcohols immediately kill all aphids with no damage to leaves or to flowers. Also good to know, alcohol doesn't harm to usefull insects like bees, bumblebees, ladybugs etc. I have never experienced return of mealybugs, but I think this is because I try to keep useful insects in my garden by attracting them with flowering plants and making hotels for useful insects to make them to live in my garden.
Thanks for that info Oliver. I'm working on a video right now regarding using rubbing alcohol which is really expensive here in Australia and with surprising result. I don't have issues with mealybug since I mainly grow most of my succulent outdoors and most of them are headed for the garden. The mealybug I'm having at the moment are all encourage so I can do these videos to show how to get rid of them or how not to have them. If you grow plants indoors with lack of air circulation, even the best gardener will have encounters with mealybug. A lot of people seem to freak out over these poor creatures but in my opinion, no such thing as a bad mealybug....Only lazybugs...LOL Plus they're not that bad as they have created alot of beautiful plants for me. Thanks very much for watching.
Liz...my daughter and I have turned into succulent lovers over this pandemic. I have been watching your videos and learning so so much. I am so excited to do some propagation. We live in Las Vegas. Your collection is so impressive. Can't wait to see all your videos.
Wow, lucky I found this video after a search & not sure why I missed it seeing as I’m a subscriber. 🤣 I’ve been looking for information on how to get more PVN babies because mine has put out some fresh flower stalks recently and I wasn’t sure how to propagate it! I put a question up in a succulent Facebook group but there were so many varied opinions I was stumped on how to proceed. Once it stops raining … hopefully tomorrow, I’ll be collecting all the young leaves off the flower stalks. I want a sea of PVN’s to plant into the ground in my front gardenReally appreciate your thorough & detailed information. Thank you so much Liz!
Great video Liz. Definitely must be propagate it during late spring to summer for best results. I tried to do it during during colder months and no success. And now I find that its best during warmer months. I got lots of babies now. I love pvn and hope they will grow big and beautiful like yours.🥰😀❤
I feel like I just went to succulent college. I have been growing succulents for about two years and have yet to grow a pvn from leaf. I’m ready for next Spring ❤
Just stumbled onto your channel because I was trying to figure out how to propagate my PVN. Thank you for such a wonderful tutorial. I just became a subscriber.
I'm so glad I found your channel! I've been a subscriber for a while now. I had bought a PVN from a local nursery here in Lake Charles, LA that I overwatered after I potted into a slightly larger terra cotta pot. Predictably it dropped a few bottom petals. I didn't throw them away, however and saved them. Videos like these have given me hope to start anew with some new babies. PVN's are without a doubt possibly the prettiest of all the echeverias.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Let me add to what I've already said, now that it's Oct. 22, 2022. I'm from Lake Charles, LA, a subtropical climate, and it feels like we're still in summer. I just noticed some primordial "buds" on some leaves on my PVN is was about to give up on. By watching videos like yours, I'll have some new PVN's hopefully to give away this Christmas! 🌵😁
I never seen such a detail video of succulents leaf props. My all questions are answered here. You are really " Queen of Succulents " ....My only question is that to get rid of bugs what you use ?

My PVN just bounced back from some major root rot. 😬 She's growing roots again. Had to remove some leaves during transplant so we shall see what happens!
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thank you, Liz! It is summer here in the NE USA. They are near my grow lights but not directly under them, and they aren't getting any water until I see roots ;)
Thank you for this video! It is exactly what I needed! I just have a couple of questions hopefully you can help me with. How do you water your leaf props once they are on top of coco coir? (Mist everything or only water where the roots are?) How deep do you water? How long do they spend under lights each day? Thanks again for the wonderful video! 💚
You gave me an awesome idea for pot legs from your previous video!! You mentioned it’s a need. I bought sone decorative glass gems at the dollar store- the roundish glass we usually decorate walls with or bathroom and superglued my pots. Now they have tny round feet!!
So when you take the leaves to propagate then do you lay them on a paper towel and wait for them to grow some roots? Then move them to the coconut coir once they develop some roots. Once they are established you would move them again to the succulent soil mix?
Yes, to all your questions. The paper towel just absorbs any moisture on the leaves but it's not necessary. The coconut coir keeps them moist but not wet, so they grow faster than when planted on the soil mix.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK when i watch your video it looks like how eassy to grow succulents. i hope that i can propagte just like yours cause i am just starting to grow my succulents and i really dont know what to do.

@Growing Succulents with LizK okay, can do. I do have a great bay window with full sun. Just can be a little cool near the glass a few months out of the year. Would a grow light help?
Very very informative once again. Liz my leaf propagations tend to grow incredible roots. I'm talking like 4 inch long thick roots and the plantlet is still attached to the leaf I chalk this up to the way I water them anyway my question is is it okay for me to trim those roots before I transplant them into their own pots out of the nursery tray? I know I did a couple of the same plant where I trim the roots and then a couple where I didn't trim the roots but I lost track of where I put the group of them so I really can't tell if it made a difference or not LOL. I know it's perfectly safe to trim the roots when you transplant plants but are they too young at this stage? I wish my hair grew as fast and thick as my leaf propagation Roots LOL I also love all the different looks of the pvn. 90% of my leaf propagations are all done from the same mother plant and they are all just so different. Succulents are amazing ❤️❤️❤️
If it has roots and plantlet, I usually remove them from the mother leaf and leave the roots as is. I don't throw away the mother leaf as some mother leaf can still put out another baby.
Yeah I've done that as well. Prop twice from one leaf but I've noticed that my second propagations are always really small and they just don't look as good so I've stopped doing it. Maybe from a bigger juicier plant like one of the Miranda propagations I have right now the leaf is as big and as thick as my fist LOL and it has about 12 plantlets on it believe it or not and those are all huge but they're still all attached and I'm thinking of popping them off and trying the leaf again. I do have a ganzho (sp) that's double propping right now but the ones I've done so far are echeveria blue prince and sedeveria blue burrito. I just didn't like the way the second round came out
Hi Liz I'm a new succulent mommy and I've learned so much from you over the past week. I've just plucked plump leaves from my PVN. I'm in humid part of Canada middle of Summer now. Will my leaves be ok outside in a dry tray under the deck umbrella or should I bring them inside the air conditioned house?
Inside would be better. PVN is such a strong plant that when the pups emerge, they can easily handle without acclimatization provided they don't get thrown into an open garden in the height of summer. Good luck.
Hi Sarah, Hubby use to say that I have an obsessive personality. When I do things, I don't do anything in halves as obvious in my videos and this can be a problem. I have now devised a system for myself where I don't buy any new plants unless I put away the ones I bought previous. When I find that I have no more space, I stop buying or collecting until I "obsessively" find or make a new space for the new plants or pots. I tend to make this activity (one corner at a time) my "chill out" or time to myself and enjoy organizing with a cup of coffee which always goes cold....LOL Hard to explain but will try and do a future video on this.
Hi liz…I’m new to these beautiful plants ..I have started to remove my leaves to grow pups but they all grow clusters and I want just one baby what am I doing wrong .plus the plants I have removed the leaves are now growing complete pups is this normal , I was thinking it would just grow another leaf not a complete plant 😊😊
It depends on the succulent. Some will grow just one plant on a leaf, others will grow cluster. You can let the plant grow bigger and remove the unwanted plants. This video might be useful. How To Separate Succulent Clusters to Propagate Fast - ruclips.net/video/IpCRF5oNToY/видео.html
I am trying to propergate..wondering what the right way is. The leaves are curl, so the ends are up. Do I keep the end up as is so it does not touch the soil or let it be so only the leaf touches the soil, but not the end? Thanks.
Hollow out some part of your soil so the curled leaf cad sit there comfortably with the plantlet touching the soil to encourage rooting. You can also use a hairpin to pin them down.
I think the one I have is a small pvn and it’s my second one and bc the first one dyed from root rot and I think the second one is dying too what can I do to stop it I took it out of the arrangement and put it in a single with dryyyy soil all the leaves I put under light but no luck wat can I do to save it 😩 I love this plant soooo much
my only PVN has died, leaving few leaves behind. Hope they are not going to hate me :) some leaves started germinating became pretty curvy....like lovely roses. can I burry them in soil a bit rather than just laying down?
My dear Liz, Your succulents are GORGEOUS, so BEAUTIFUL, so ADORABLE, so PRETTY, so MUJER, so MAGANDA In short PERFECT and STUNNING 🤩 hello from California USA 🇺🇸 Thank you for sharing 🙏 JONAH
I just picked up my very first PVN. Unfortunately she looks like she's had most her mature leaves plucked for propagation so she just looks stretched. I'm wondering if I can head chop her, if she will still grow..??
Depends how many leaves are left. They need some leave for photosynthesis or else it will eat itself before it could grow roots. I like to leave at least 5 leaves on the mother plant.
Cuttings that have been calloused for a couple of hours at least can be planted in moist soil, but leave it for a week before watering again or when the soil dries up.
Hello again ms. Lizk, your plants are as gorgeous as you...is there any way you can ship here in the USA...I am raring to order and get hold some of those pretty things🌸❣
It's one and the same but the peat is best as it's finer. I get mine from Bunnings here in Australia but they are also available online. Link below for what I use. www.brunnings.com.au/coir-power-peat-brick-2210.html
Hi Liz! Oh, I'm so excited. I just love your succs! Stunning. My dream garden. I am a huge fan, I have been doing as much as possible of what you are teaching. And it works! My first big move was beheading! I was so afraid, but after watching your video, I did it! Beautiful, clean cut, too.youre a great teacher! Do, I have 4 new babies on my now beheaded pvn. Do I leave them there on the stump? I am amazed I have 4!. I watch everyday, even if I have to repeat. Thank you for sharing [and showing!] your wonderful knack. Repot?
Coconut coir or peat is a natural fiber extracted from coconut husk. Ideal substrate to use or add to the soil mix. Video link below for my propagation soil mix. Cheers Propagation Soil Mix | GSWLizK - ruclips.net/video/Q-XEjJFUGVI/видео.html
I live in Canberra, Australia Zone 9 but my succulents that are grown out in the open have experienced Winter temperature of -11°Celcius or 12°Fahrenheit and Summer temperature of 45°C or 113°F.
So you're saying that you spray your propagations right? How come your leaves stay so beautiful and alive for so long? How does that happen? I find that mine dry up too quick because of missing and I have constant air circulation around them. Could I just be missing them too much? Or could I just be using the wrong soil? I did get a brick of coco coir After watching one of your videos a while back but it's such a huge brick that I'm not sure how to cut it up to use it
I don't spray my propagation. I water them using a sprayer. I make sure that the roots are wet, not just the leaves. Wet leaves and dry roots equals root rot or leaf rot. The coco brick needs to be soaked in warm water. The standard brick size will expand to 9 liters of coco soil/peat.

my only PVN has died, leaving few leaves behind. Hope they are not going to hate me :) some leaves started germinating became pretty curvy....like lovely roses. can I burry them in soil a bit rather than just laying down?
I can't answer that for you as you'll have to decide yourself. Please watch 16:50 AND 20:21 for answer to your question.
In regards to propagating the flower stalk leaves, does this work for other echeverias as well?
Yes. Only the ones with thin leaves can be challenging.
Thank you! I needed this information🤗😃🙏🏼♥️💐
Like the information shared ... moving camera slowly and steady ...Will help

@@craftsplantsandsucculentsw1076 Maraming salamat kabayan. Hope you keep watching.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thankfully there are 7 leaves left on her. Sill, I am very worried! Her leaves are extremely healthy too.
Thank you for info
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
So detailed 😊You’re really the Master of Succulents 😍🥰
Thanks so much 😊
Can you just use pre-mixed succulent soil for propagating? Or it has to be coconut coir?
You can use anything but I find that for me, coconut coir is much easier and quicker for plants to grow especially when growing indoors.
So from my understanding of this, if the cuttings do not have any roots, they should not get any water?
Cuttings that have been calloused for a couple of hours at least can be planted in moist soil, but leave it for a week before watering again or when the soil dries up.
잎꽂이 아이들이 이쁘네요 잘 봤습니다^^
기뻐요. 감사합니다.
hi lizk. i did soak and drain coco peat. but it still very wet. can i use when it dry or wet,.?
Use them moist not dripping wet.
Thanks
Hermosas todas 😘

Hello again ms. Lizk, your plants are as gorgeous as you...is there any way you can ship here in the USA...I am raring to order and get hold some of those pretty things🌸❣
Not selling at the moment and can't ship outside of Australia.
"you have the right to life....BUT" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can a person use cacti and succulent mix instead of coconut coir to propagate leaves?
Yes you can, but I find they grow much faster when in coconut coir since they get watered more often(once they roots) and less change of root rot.
Hi mam lizk I really love your succulent... Wish ko magkaroon ng ganyan kaganda n mga succulent.. lalo n Yong arrangements n mron kyo...🥰🥰🥰
You can do it....
Liz can you please tell me the name of the tool you use to pull the leaves, it looks like scissors. Thank You.
It's called Hemostatic Locking Clamp Forceps. The one I have is called a Straight Kelly Forcep 14cm.
At what season or temp. echeveria PVN grow fast from leaves? Is it when it’s cold?
It's in the video.
Maayong adlaw diha nimu ma'am Liz😊😊 I love propagate succulents hehehe I have 3 trays😊💞💞

Oh I'm so addicted!
I know exactly how you feel....😂😅
Do you sell any succulents LizK? You have such beauties! 🥰
Not yet!
is there a difference from coconut peat and coconut coir also where can we get some?
It's one and the same but the peat is best as it's finer. I get mine from Bunnings here in Australia but they are also available online. Link below for what I use.

I love all your videos ❤
Thank you madam Liz.
You're welcome 😊
Repot?
Leave them to grow roots or a bit bigger. I will be doing future video of harvesting pups on beheaded succulent so keep an eye on that.
Coconut what?? What type of soil is best for propagation??
Coconut coir or peat is a natural fiber extracted from coconut husk. Ideal substrate to use or add to the soil mix. Video link below for my propagation soil mix. Cheers

Is there a downside to growing your succulents in pure coco coir after they mature?
So far so good.
Do I have to spay water on the paper towels
No. You have to keep it dry until the baby emerge and roots appear. Than you can plant it in soil and water.
😁beautiful Liz
Thank you! 😊
May I ask what area you live in!?! U know like Climate and such.
I live in Canberra, Australia Zone 9 but my succulents that are grown out in the open have experienced Winter temperature of -11°Celcius or 12°Fahrenheit and Summer temperature of 45°C or 113°F.
Is there a spray for mealy bugs?
There are systemic pesticide to use for mealy bug but I prefer using my Metho spray. One cup methylated spirit to 1/4 cup water.
hi Ms. Lizk maari dn po b ito gawin dto s Pilipinas? 🤗
But of course. Mas maganda nga ito sa Pilipinas kasi wala kayong frost dyan. Kami dito sobrang init sa summer at frost sa winter.
Present tita lizk😘👋
Thank you Crisel.
That's why mine die bc I watered them w no roots. oof... Also I put mine in direct sun n they die bc of that yikessssssssss. Thank youuuu.
