Yep, getting VIP was a huge amount of grind for me as a F2P player. I used to enjoy being a Healing Paladin until they nerfed it. From having to shield 80% of your HP it decreased to Shielding 40% of your HP. That type of nerf sucked. Forced to make a healing warlock but eventually the game tires you out.
Game is dead on the ps4
Those who are still around are the whales who put enough money on the game to actually have good gear to keep buying VIP and keep having “Fun”

Leveling was a great experience and I loved the combat in this game. The game's downfall was slowly grinding out old level cap zones, which were basically empty, to try to get to new content where the people are. Their answer to that? Pay to win solutions.

After combat rework (like 2 years ago) I was playing NW a lot. Leveling process was amazing, things were challenging etc. I had a blast. Problem was actual end game progression, campaigns were pain in the ass and to be honest content can be fun but there is not enough of it. And each MOD (update) changes a lot of stuff in a game that often makes older stuff worthless. I've long in not long ago to play a bit and to my suprise then even toned down on P2W. Like the races can be bought in the shop for 5 or 10 bucks and they used to be much more expensive and some worked on the Batte Pass system. Also Chests that you use key on now guarantee main prize after enough uses and other rewards from them got bit better.

So small story time, I loved Neverwinter when it first released. Rolled a GWF and worked insanely hard even did some P2W getting best in slot gear/enchants. Sadly even after being decked in the best tier gear at the time, a rogue in t1 or full pvp gear did more AOE/Single target and had more utility than me. A GWF was mainly about AOE but, if another class does better AOE along with single target and utility it utterly made my GWF useless in PvE or PvP. Thought honestly, maybe its just a skill issue for me. Tried every talent, tried everything I could and did lots of research and testing. None of it mattered, a GWF was just a class that was not needed. I made a massive suggestion/feedback post on the forums and had thousands of thumbs up and positive views. Devs added a little more damage to two abilities after a month of waiting. Game numbers drewndled, and my GWF logged out and never came back again.
I guess that is what I can for supporting them with money (even if I was trying to be BiS for my guild/friends) as apparently after about a year later they finally did GWF right.

I have played this game since 2014 consistently and only gave it up this year. It was fun, but don't get to attactched to things. They will get reworked, devalued, there are constant background Nerfs and abilities suddenly not working how they should. They also have stripped out some story beats that added real charm, and have stripped out good sections of the game to make way for some rework or extra system meant to tempt you to spend. The Dev team says things like "We are making X change to prevent Y problem" And their new system just makes Y worse. The classes each used to be able to earn a full range of powers that could be mixed and matched to make a character very adaptable, but now you have a limited number of powers determined by your Paragon path, and you don't get to pick the order they unlock like before. Every nice improvement seems to come with a loss of something i liked, big problems or bugs goes unfixed the devs only sometimes even try to placate the fans. Every new neat idea comes with predatory systems meant to make you spend, every purchase is a gamble on if the thing you bought works like it says it will and every update becomes more and more Hostile design wise to casual solo play. The game is good, but it comes with a lot of bad behind the scenes that gets tiresome to deal with. With all that said, i only gave up the game because it started crashing my new computer after a few minutes of play. The Action gameplay is great, but there are so many sticky fingers in the systems that will gleefully lighten you wallet.

I used to be really ino Neverwinter with friends sinking in over 1k+ hours, but we got burnt out by the Dev's philosphy of constantly updating the game to suit new players. We would grind for months, sometimes a year to get the best gear and then the game updates and adds in new best gear making what we just worked for obsolete, or the update changes the way stats work in general to make our work basically obsolete. There would be some compensation to help us transition from our outdated gear to the revamped stuff, but after a few cycles of major updates we just got kinda tired trying to keep up. It's been a couple years since i played so maybe it's different but I don't reccomend dedicating any money until you've experianced end game content.

I started playing this game during its launch. Went very ham on it. I played this Rogue type character. I was quite a high ranking pvp player who could carry matches single handedly at times. I remember my first pvp build where I go into stealth mode then sneak up on a target and then use a super stab move that has an animation of a knife going from left to right side. Stabbing the target like that was a huge move and nuked them very hard, usually one shotting. And then the Meta sorta changed and I built my Rogue to have more of a sustain build. Like sustained dps with good cc.
This build had you coming out of stealth throwing daggers at the target. I think you had 3 or 5 daggers and each one caused a stun / flinch effect and had very good damage too.
I also befriended a new player and taught him the mechanics of the game. After sometime he just decided to send me that flaming horse mount or something. It was a paid only mount and cost like 60 usd or smth. I was shocked! Cause that mount was rly fast and gave me an even bigger advantage as it could be used in pvp.
Oh and also back then for one of the highest lvl dungeon run that could drop very good loot, Rogue was the only class that could "cheese" the run by stealthing to the end boss room by using a bug in the game, a crack at certain parts of the walls and you could get INSIDE the map and then reach end boss room, die, and the rest of your party mates could teleport there, skipping all the trash adds and just killing boss. That was how you farmed.
Thanks for reading guys! These are all I remember, it's almost been 10 years now but NW def got me playing for a couple mths or 6 mths from launch. Was great.

I grew up playing the paperback D&D settings. My favorite setting was Dark Sun and I know it will never take off in Neverwinter but I digress. My group mostly played Forgotten Realms (which I never really liked but I wanted to play regardless) and so this game is a throwback to my childhood. I was surprised by how close you got Menzoberranzan. My DMs favorite class of course was the Drow, which I never liked. Alot of my issues with the game seem kinda fixed. Neverwinter is a game that i would definitely recommend finding some friends to play with. At least one! It's a game that is most enjoyable when you can hop on voice and run around with a few other people because I'd agree, the solo experience feels a bit lonely. It doesn't have the scale to make up for the lack of a group.
That being said, the dungeons have some fun mechanics and even when I run random groups in dungeons i usually have a lot of fun! Granted I play paladin, so tank/healer has less of a wait. It really is a game that is worthwhile if you like playing group content. They've made a lot of improvements, I'd say the last thing they need to fix is gear leveling - it can be hard to max out your item level, but the Seal Trader is your friend. By the time you get to level 20, you should have enough Adventuring Seals to be able to buy a set of the gear and do dungeon content.

There is no P2W since the armour you have to craft yourself or you waste a ton of money and it doesnt matter since in PVP you are normalized and your stats are done by amulets with stat combinations so its about who brings the best A game and build. Of course there are costumes in cash shop which are not that expensive and account bound same goes for mount skins and weapon skins and gliders mostly visual fluff... What I would reccomend to buy after game to get full experience is buying the steam starter pack which grants you permanent mining picks, axes and sickles which are for gathering and destructobot which is for salvaging armor so you get materials for crafting

You basically farm astrals to buy everything from the shop (which it takes 1-2 years it seems, unless you convert real money to zen and then astral). @Jackalvs Actually guild wars 2 action combat means everything is an aoe boon or an aoe debuff, most of the time centered around the character, every class has different professions to specialize in, so in the end, if you chose a sorcerer - you will be melee, if you chose ranger - you will be melee, if you chose mesmer - you will be melee, if you chose anything you will be melee, it is melee wars 2 and the class identity is just different colors of melee aoe, I liked a lot of aspects of guild wars 2 but the combat put it into the coffin for me.
P.S. edit: which is sad because the game has skills designed for different ranges but they will never be meta(competetive) while you can get 15 buffs just by standing near your allies in melee in world vs world, if only they made them be self buffs or party wide within a reasonable range...

For some reason the game never grabbed me and sucked me in yet compartmentaly I enjoyed the components. Part of the problem originally was the shiny path thing that is akin to auto patching without the auto part. I think last time I found you can turn that off, but I still never got engaged totally. The level squish tho has me intrigued. It seems the two problems ik of are potentially solved.

Played this game for about 6 months and grinded hard before giving up on it.. The dungeons are probably some of the best that I have ever done in any MMORPG, the mechanics are complex and the whole party needs to know their stuff to complete them especially in Advanced Dungeons which can take even more than an hour depending on your party. The main reason I stopped playing the game was that finding people to party up with you as someone at 50k IL and DPS is super difficult, because higher item level DPS are easily available, hence running the Advanced Dungeons which I find the most fun becomes super difficult since no party wants me in.
The game does try to make it more fair by adjusting people with high Item Level to match that of the dungeon but since their gear has better bonuses in general, they can out dps someone at 20k less item level easily. Getting higher item level and better gear requires me to run dungeons which are the most difficult (like the Vault of Stars) but I can't do that since no party accepts me in. There is also option for RADQ (Random queue) but it takes too long (hours) and often the people don't even know the mechanics and also you can't run dungeons like Vault of Stars in random queue. Overall, the game is fun, it's just that I can't find ways to make steady progress anymore and it starts to feel stagnant.
Also, a lot of people play directly from the Arc launcher because the steam version is shit for various reasons (personal experience) so a lot more player than those figures play the game.

She did fairly well, but I hated how thin her defenses felt. Went with a Human Barbarian later and it did feel a lot better. Been considering going back to do a Paladin or Fighter, though I admit I have much to learn about being a tank.
Old experience used to have you chase the Nashers to reclaim the Neverwinter Crown, and then go on to help out in a number of other zones. You get to visit a vast number of areas, but yeah each zone tends to drag on a bit long.... and then the endgame campaigns really drag their feet with campaign currency and other drops.
As far as the combat rework went, Item Level now calculates for both HP and damage dealt.

Unfortunately, Cryptic and Perfect World realized that the real $$ is selling P2W items to end game players. That's why they reworked and compressed the leveling process getting rid of fun story zones in the process. Get players to end game quicker, make them realize the grind, and sell P2W items to skip the terrible grind system.

The game now is extremely pay to win, you could max enchants that would take you all year in a minute with just 60 usd, even rare artifacts that show up once a year have been added to the shop...the boons, the companion enchants, mount enchants EVERYTHING is purchasable.

I just started playing this for the first time and ended up choosing a bard because it looked fun and different but struggled with survivability. So I created a warlock and found that to be much easier to kill bosses and mobs..so far it's pretty fun and I'm enjoying it now lvl 8

The combat was eerily reminiscent of bdo. The ranger and warrior especially! I wonder if bdo copied or was inspired by this combat. I’m rly impressed with Neverwinter’s combat

Proud of you for going the Tiefling chick! 👍 - Neverwinter absolutely is a Forgotten Realms themepark, and chock full of lore too. It even has the Moon Elf, which ya gotta pay for, but is well worth it if you want a great ranged / magic combo class. Had loads of fun with this game, and also Star Trek Online. Made by the same mob. Lots of option without being a complicated drag. You spend most of your time playing. Easy lobby's. Anti-griefing. Whats not to like? - and its free.

Hey guys I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future. Thx for reading.

After 4k hours invested into this game, I have to say I've fallen in love with it.
    Developers & Game Development:
It has improved DRASTICALLY and is getting better. The developers are showing a lot of interest in the game, which is great.
If you as a new player want to invest your time into the game, you might want to look into VIP (Doesn't matter what VIP rank, but each rank can enhance your gaming experience)
EDIT: You can buy VIP with in-game currency using a AD to ZEN exchange system, but the backlog is really big and it would take a decent amount of time to get it.
VIP Costs about 600k AD at its lowest price (600k is very easily earned, but the wait time is the painful thing)
Anything can be bought with in-game currency, just needs a bit of grind if you don't want to spend real $$
    Gameplay:
The gameplay of this game has always been great, especially if you actually tried to educate yourself the best rotations to follow in a single target situation, as well as the best AoE abilities feats & class features you should use.
    Class Balancing:
Class balancing is currently at a bad state, in end-game there is a ring called Band of Air that when it's procced it deals damage. Classes like rogues and Warlocks that deal massive damage over time are able to proc the ring really often, making them rule the game beyond any other class.
Wizards for new players might be the worst dps class to play as a beginner, it is weak and many players have demanded for a complete revamp of the class since it's weaker than all other classes.
    End-game Class tier list (ST):
    S: Rogues/Warlocks
    A: Rangers/Bards/Barbarians
    B: Fighters/Clerics
Notes: Rogues are currently at the top of the DPS charts nearly every time. If you want to play rogue keep in mind, the rotations simple and fast to execute
Bards: is a new class, really fun and well-balanced but buggy, they follow a different combat system than other dps classes, not recommended for newer players unless they want a new MMORPG experience
Warlocks: Warlocks are amazing, they have a feat that gives them combat advantage on the target if you have done a crit on them which increases their damage making them one or possibly even the most powerful class in AoE
Fighters: Are the only class with small to non damage over time but immensely high damaging encounters. They are very strong in Single Target, and they can deal incredible burst damage within a short period of time.
Rangers: Rangers are incredible in both ST and AoE. Rangers are the only class that has 6 encounters besides 3, a melee and ranged stance. If you build a ranger right, you can deal immense amounts of damage and are deserving of the top dps charts.
Clerics: dps Clerics are excessively hard to play as a new player. They are strong primarily in ST and not AoE (Not good for newer experience). The combos a dps Cleric needs to do in order to not run out of divinity are very hard.
Barbarians: They are amazing and deal a decent amount of damage in both single target and aoe, but they struggle to reach the top dps charts
    Response to P2W:
Short answer, yes & no, it is a subscription to skip, of course you can grind your ass off all the way up to your gear. But that'd give you years of gameplay. In Neverwinter there is something called VIP rank 1-12 with each rank giving you benefits. With VIP, you get a key each day in order to open the lockboxes that you get on the ground from enemies (Which lockbox you should open, if you're a beginner you'd look for lockboxes that give tradebars). There is a good balance to in-game currency (Astral Diamonds) and real-money game currency (ZEN).
    How to enhance your experience:
Best way to enhance your experience, I'd say it would surely be with VIP. As a new player, you will be in high demand for answers from any questions you might have as a new player. A guild/alliance can give you that. The grind begins at level 20 and above as a goal to increase your item level to as high as it can be (Currently the highest item level is 82k).
If you're looking for an alliance or guild, please check out "The Round Table" alliance, we are a large and active community constantly growing (no demands or requirements to anything, no elitism).

You miss out on the Ranger because eventually the Ranger unlocks melee stance so you have both ranged and Maylee and now it’s quite effective that way because later on our bosses that you can’t get close to but at the same time you’re always getting mobbed while doing normal content

It's so interesting to see how challenging the early levels were. Not sure if you've done a video before on the OG Everquest, but leveling there was exceptionally hard.
