    Its hard to get a ramp agent job with an actual airline well atleast here in las vegas...i been trying for years to get on with SOUTHWEST smh one day!!

    • @TheBohemianTraveler
      @TheBohemianTraveler  7 лет назад +1

      Swl232nd Keep trying!!! It will happen! Between my layoff with Delta and my current airline job, it took like seven years for me. LAX was always hiring and I could get jobs there, but it is way too far of a commute especially with traffic. So, I had to wait until my airport finally hired me. Persistence pays off and it's going to happen!Southwest is a great company. Thanks for watching and good luck!

    I always wanted to be a ramper, but because my dad said only men could do this job, my hope was a little slackened. But if I get to know who and what I'm looking at, I think; "You see, just like I said, if I'm just fine, maybe it's possible." Really deep respect to you ... ❤️

    • @TheBohemianTraveler
      @TheBohemianTraveler  7 лет назад +3

      Megan Nieuwendijk Thank you so much!!! You can do anything you put your mind to. Half of the rampers at my airline are women. It's not easy but if you have the right tools and learn how to stretch before and lift correctly, you should be fine. I'm not the strongest person, but your body builds up and you get used to it. Good luck and thanks for watching!!

    • @Ho0ly

      This is definitely not a men only job. In fact, there are many areas where women seem to excel more than men, such as with the bulk cargo loaders. There are many different duties, but it IS a job that can cause you harm if done incorrectly. I am a small female human and I work primarily in the bagroom, and I love it. I am so much stronger today than I was even a week ago. In my area it's probably 40/60 women/men. Do your research, go apply, get through training, and see if it's still something you might be interested in.

    @The Bohemian Traveler: I work full time for Marriott International and I have the chance to work for Delta part time as a ramp agent... Do you think Delta will be willing to work afternoons and evenings only since I don't get off until 2:00pm? Flight Benefits & Cheap Rooms I hope so.

    • @TheBohemianTraveler
      @TheBohemianTraveler  7 лет назад +1

      Elliott Ness that would be so awesome if it worked out. I used to have a coworker who worked for the Hilton and Delta Airlines. That was such a wonderful combination. I don't know if Delta would be willing to do that. It will all depend upon your bid schedule that you get. I know when I recently got hired at Delta a few years ago, they told me that I could not shift trade for six months. I feel though since you did get hired at Delta, I would try it out and try to make it work. Good luck and let me know what happens. This is a great opportunity for you. Delta is the best airline to work for in my opinion.

    how many hours does a ramp agent usually get in a week average?

    • @TheBohemianTraveler
      @TheBohemianTraveler  7 лет назад +3

      Michael B Great question. It totally depends upon your airline. For instance Delta LAX requires five days a week four hours a day with no chance to trade shifts for six months. My airline is in a smaller station so we don't have to work as many hours. Our bids are from four to about 12 hours a week for part time agents. So in essence it depends upon your airline and station needs. Hope this helps!!

    • @mooutlaws32
      @mooutlaws32 7 лет назад +1

      Michael B like she said, it all depends on which airline you're with. A lot of big carriers at good sized stations, the majority of agents are going to be full time with however many part timers are needed to fill any gaps.

    I used to do this ! Consider stacking the bags with the flat side up vs soft side up. For me, it made the stack more stable. Also those bags that are curvy like the blue one you got at 3:05, those are perfect for corners! Like you'd flip it so that the blue side is facing down, right beside the green and blue bags at the right. Best of luck in there!

    • @TheBohemianTraveler
      @TheBohemianTraveler  5 лет назад +1

      Myia Thomas every airline is different. We used to work six hours a week. But now that I’m with another airline, my average is 15 hours a week. I do give away a lot of my hours so I’m averaging about seven working hours a week. We don’t have reserve at the airline I’m with now. But they do have relief lines-Where people work the lines of people that are going on vacation. I used to be ready reserve with Delta and absolutely loved it!!!
