@@TheBohemianTraveler I thought you don’t have a say in working hours. If you do, how different are the hours from CSA? Also, which airline gives the best flight benefits
@@dmxdave12 You bid for your schedule. The more senior you are, the more you have priority over your shifts that you want. Every airline is different when it comes to flight benefits. The good thing about Delta and American, you don’t pay extra to be upgraded to first class. United you do. However when you’re using your vacation passes for United, you don’t have to pay extra for first class. But other than that, many times the mainline flight benefits are more or less the same.
Omg I withdrew my flight attendant consideration after starting to follow you. A seasonal ramp position became available here so I applied. I was so excited that I received a CJO but I did not pass the new agility testing required by this airline. I don't know a single person who has passed yet 🙁.
Sacred Lotus Henna Oh no!! Keep trying for an airline position. Don’t give up! You must be pretty impressive if you received 2 job offers! Fortunately, I didn’t have an agility test. That really stinks. Thank you so much for watching my videos. Hopefully a new and greater door will open up really soon.🙏🏾
I think I'm lucky to work for a handling service that doesn't offer loading so I never have to load any bags. I rarely help out if we are running late. I wonder in which situation you have to carry bags do you load the aircraft yourself or do you prepare the bags coming from the check-in ?
Sam Brown Great question. We don't work by ourselves ever. Everyone has different roles. Some are loaders, some are unloaders, some are leads, some are rovers, some do lavatories, water and blue juice. It everyone carries their weight, it's not bad at all. We have tools that we use as well to help us. We use conveyor belts to bring the bags up to the plane and some planes have "magic carpets" that move the bags to us. Thanks for watching!!
I have been working as a ramper for 3 weeks now. my only pro is that im getting 45hrs a week but the con for me is that im not getting any training on anything else except cleaning.
nickie72392 That stinks that you're only trained on cleaning. Cool that you have full time hours! Thanks for contributing to this topic. It is interesting to hear what others in our community are doing.
Any progress on this? My company tried to typecast me into cleaner too, but any time there were long gaps between flights I would ask if I could help on the ramp. They saw how hard I worked there, saw that I wasn't afraid to get dirty. Now I am bagroom, which I have a lot of fun with :)
Best part of being a ramper for delta for me was the coworkers I had. Worst part definitely was cold weather and rainy days. The head didn't bother me a bit.
As a ramp agent myself, I have to say the pros are we get breaks. We don’t get as many flights, and I work for international flights. (There is no labore for them. We don’t stack) unless your in the bag room. But I’m not in the bagroom. It’s a good social environment. It’s pretty fun
I recently got accepted to a ramp agent position for AA. I'm waiting for my paperwork to be sent and approved though. I have a few questions for you: 1) Would it be pointless to earn elite membership for Delta and United? Elite memberships for life on all three airline alliances is a life goal for me. 2) Are taking photographs of airplanes forbidden while on schedule but not on duty? I like taking photos of airplanes, or planespotting, and logging them. 3) How do you spend downtime at work? That is, when you're not handling luggage or any other job duties?
BrownBrother27 No I don’t think it would be pointless to earn elite membership for other airlines if that’s your goal. I’m not sure about American, but for my airline, we can take pictures and videos. I usually don’t like to tag the company though. But my airline it’s not forbidden. As long as you say that you’re not a representative of the company. People do many teams during downtime. You can catch up on training, talk to your coworkers, look at your phone, anything. As long as you are ready for that next flight. Congratulations!
I know this video is old, but I’ve been watching your videos for insight as I applied for a ramp agent position at my local airport. My interview (I wasn’t really interviewed just got a brief summary of the positions) was today, I was basically told there were no positions open and I could choose what I wanted to be considered for out of the ticket counter and some other position (can’t remember the proper name for it). All I know is they said that position didn’t have flight benefits. However, the ticket counter position comes with all the benefits. I was told I should consider the ticket counter position because of my personality and I seemed like a people’s person (per supervisor). I’m really nervous now, because they didn’t ask me anything but made it seem like I’m going to the next step without formally extending an offer. It’s so confusing.
E Shelt Yes, that is confusing. Do you think is worth it to work there without flight benefits? Or are you just wanting to get a job in the industry? They seemed impressed with you though. Maybe when the positions open up, they will be extending an offer. I’m excited for you and your journey. Thanks so much for watching.
I had to correct the original comment. The counter position does come with full benefits. I’m just a bit puzzled on the hiring process. Mainly, the interview portion. They do have openings for the ticket counter though. I’m just concerned because they didn’t ask me anything about myself. Either way I’d be content if I get the job.
How flexible are they with your hours? Like say during the interview you say can’t work a certain day of the week. Also i go to school out of state (flight training) and could only work during my breaks, would they be fine with that?
No. They will only hire you if you say you are super flexible. There is also a minimum number of hours that they will require each pay period or quarter. After you get hired you have the option to shift trade with your coworkers. That will make the job flexible for your needs. If you can only work during summer breaks, consider applying for seasonal work. Good luck !
These airlines want you to have open availability for the ramp which is crazy for what they pay! You should be able to do this job part time like it says when the job is posted. Sorry but just went for an interview for the ramp, again part time but they want you to be open availability, which is crazy to me. Some it seems would maybe look at this as a part-time job after their 9-5 at night, or on weekends etc. seems fun and a great workout. I just don’t at all get the ask on availability, again for a part-time role.
It can be very very flexible though. Once you get through probation, you can design your own schedule with your coworkers. You can drop shifts, pick up shifts, combine, shifts, etc. It works for many people. It’s worked out for me this entire time. Good luck!

What’s the minimum hours for ramp agents ? I applied part time for my local airport small one but I have a full time job already . A 3-6am shift would be perfect
It’s going to depend on your station and your airline. When I was with one airline, I would work six hour a week. If you do a seasonal job you have to do minimum 150 hours a year. And if you work for some of the major airlines, they want you to work 50% of your shifts. So it’s all gonna depend.
Congratulations! Don’t you guys start out at like $23 an hour and LA? Your training pay is the same pay that you get paid for your normal shifts. Congrats on working for the best airline in the industry!

A week ago signed a contract with a major Int airport to work as a ramp agent, almost finished all minimum instructions/courses. Have my B license for service ways. Practical supervised work will start on 4th Dec. Needles to say, it is heavily snowing - will be fun. I am aiming straight away for pushback(aft. 3months) and GH coordinator(1-year minimum) qualifications.
I think it totally depends. I’ve worked at airlines where it was easy to use my flight benefits, because I was able to stack my shifts with my coworkers or give away my shifts. I’ve worked at Airlines also that it was a little bit more challenging to do so, but since I’ve always been part time, it hasn’t been too bad. But I can see that happening to some agents.
FIRST. i think a ramp agent is the closest thing to an angel that modern day theology can get... selfless preparation for the missionary flight. okay... with that said I agree with what she is saying for the most part... BUT... It twirls the hairs on my butt to hear "the ramp agent does not experience the drama of airline patronage. I remember skychef giving bags of chips and sodas to the kids who boarded plane early... just that should motivate the ramper to stay cheerful and work kind because kids love to see rampers. either air marshalling, or working the taxi walk to the runway..... even when unloading the bags there is at least 10 people on every flight who look out the window to see their bag hit the cart. overall, i agree the rampers best friend is the plane itself, BUT, there are those moments where you get to be mr flight guy or girl..
I just registered for two courses on ramp services and airport operations with Blue Ocean Training and Consultancy an IATA legal partner in Dubai. Which is best for me to make a good career?
Congratulations. I am not sure. Here in the US, we don’t generally need outside training courses. Once we are hired, they train us on the job. I wish you the best in your new career endeavor!

@@mikebrown6376 I hope this doesn’t sound insensitive, but was it at least easy to get in? Someone in my family is trying to get me in and they seem to like it. Id love to work with my family and fly all over the country on my days off tbh.

Christopher Dones I think it depends. I was ready reserve in the past for delta and I worked nights 8pm - 12am. However, most times you will need to take off for weeks for training and that’s Monday-Friday. Also, sometimes you are not given trade privileges for the first 6 months. Good luck!!🍀

Braced God It must have been be nice to work with your dad.’. I totally get it. Once the airline life is in your blood, it’s there for life. It’s like an appendage. Apply again! -Especially after you move to a warmer climate. You shouldn’t have a problem getting back in the industry since you have prior experience. Best of luck and take care!
The Bohemian Traveler hell yeah!
Im waiting for my phone call to start training with them then off to the working field 💪 so excited and cannot wait to start the job watxhing youtube videos to prepare myself
Congratulations!!!!!! I hope you love it!!! Let me know how it goes.
I will start my training for delta at LAX and I was wondering if how much they pay for the training and how long is the training process? Thanks!
Congratulations! Don’t you guys start out at like $23 an hour and LA? Your training pay is the same pay that you get paid for your normal shifts. Congrats on working for the best airline in the industry!
Oh wow this is an old video its 2022 now, and i just got a interview scheduled for me for Alaska/horizon air at my local airport lol what confuses me is why do i need 2 copies of my resume?? But all and all i hope i get this job
Maybe you have more than one person interviewing you and they both need a copy. I used to bring about five copies. I hope you get it! Let me know how it goes.
@@TheBohemianTraveler yeah i had 3 1 male 2 female, seem friendly good atmosphere i love it, told me they love my work background that i was not afraid of machinery, now gotta wait till friday! Thanks for your vid though!
Thanks so much for this informative information on Air Ramping. I'll be doing this soon so I needed some insight.
Thanks for watching! I wish you the best on your journey!!!
Hru hey frontier flight attendant or sw ramp agent help?
Totally up to you. Do you have the flexibility to be a flight attendant? That would be amazing. And it’s nice to have that option. If not, and you just want the fight benefits, do ramp. Please let me know what you choose!
What are some subjects needed to be a baggage handler
I tried applying for my old airline, and another legacy a few years back. But “””unforeseen circumstances””” rendered that not viable.
My dad retired from his but went to Southwest. He really wants me to join, as do I. Got an interview scheduled next week. Nervous cuz I’m a bit more “big boned” than before, but excited to hopefully be back on the ramp for good. I’m sick of these warehouse jobs, and I can’t wait to work with my old man again, and travel all over the US!
Oh my goodness! I pray you get it. Let me know what happens! You are gonna love it. Especially working with your dad.
@@TheBohemianTraveler Thanks it's looking good! Haven't got an official email confirmation but the higher-ups told him I did great and I got the job. Once I get the email in a couple days I'll be off to Dallas 🛫
Update: I just started 🤘🏼
A week ago signed a contract with a major Int airport to work as a ramp agent, almost finished all minimum instructions/courses. Have my B license for service ways. Practical supervised work will start on 4th Dec. Needles to say, it is heavily snowing - will be fun. I am aiming straight away for pushback(aft. 3months) and GH coordinator(1-year minimum) qualifications.
Wow. Congratulations!
Hello mam do have email address may I contact you? I have few questions about the job
Iamthebohemiantraveler@gmail.com
I just seen a video saying ramp agents work soooo much they barely get to use their flight benefits.. what is your take on that?
I think it totally depends. I’ve worked at airlines where it was easy to use my flight benefits, because I was able to stack my shifts with my coworkers or give away my shifts. I’ve worked at Airlines also that it was a little bit more challenging to do so, but since I’ve always been part time, it hasn’t been too bad. But I can see that happening to some agents.
@@TheBohemianTraveler thank you so much.. i start tomorrow! 🙏🏿
@@Turk_39_ how exciting! Congratulations!
FIRST. i think a ramp agent is the closest thing to an angel that modern day theology can get... selfless preparation for the missionary flight. okay... with that said I agree with what she is saying for the most part...
I stand corrected……😂💀 Thanks for your comment
Why were you putting some bags aside
Because they go on a different flight
Did u have to do the physical abilities test,??? And was it hard?
No I did not. I started off customer service and transferred to ramp
Cold ass Chicago ain’t no joke
😂🤣
When it comes to heavy baggage handling, is it easier to work as a ramp agent or a baggage handler?
I am assuming that a baggage handler is the same as a ramp agent? So I’m assuming it should be about the same. (Subbies, correct me if I’m wrong.)
@@TheBohemianTraveler Oh, I thought they were different 😂😅. Thanks anyways!
Can you please recommend me a Ramp Agency for employment opportunity in Chicago. Thank u.
Total airport service....on indeed
i recently put my resume on indeed & already got like 5 offers for ramp agent in Pearson airport (Toronto)i had an idea of what one does but not fully, found you & you've dropped gems. Thank You now i'm going for the best offer :)
SLEEK Good for you!!! Good luck and enjoy your new journey! Thank you so much for watching!
I have so much anxiety and depression about ramp at southwest
Oh no!! Why?
@@TheBohemianTraveler our management isn’t the greatest very rude and unprofessional everyday u go to work it’s like your job is being dangled in ya face it got to much I got sick 🤒 the pass week and I missed a call out by five minutes they consider it a “no show “ even when u call so they let me go because of that but still kept people that admitted to smoking weed… smh 🤦🏽♂️ other than that the job was cool really
@@mikebrown6376 I hope this doesn’t sound insensitive, but was it at least easy to get in? Someone in my family is trying to get me in and they seem to like it. I enjoyed working ramp in the old legacy carrier I worked before, but life went upside down causing me to leave.
I got to the IRL interview stage next week but honestly im a bit nervous. I -bombed- messed up an interview with another airline a few years back, though I wasn’t working, I sorta winged it, and it was not long after the pandemic.
Id love to work with my family and fly all over the country on my days off tbh.
How much is the pay??? Do you get paid hourly or how does that work?
Jorge Gonzalez I cant say. But it’s hourly.
Thanks so much am not aramper but I want to start here in the United Arab Emirates please God help me I need this
Best wishes on your journey. I wish you the best!!
@@TheBohemianTraveler but to be honest I want to come and do all my career in USA I think it’s better there
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Just got a job offer from Delta for Spirit Airlines. So I am here to see what it’s about
Joseph Cruz-Trinidad congratulations on your job offer!!
like your videos i am trying to get in as a ramp agent i work in the food industry at msp airport
Dusty312 I hope you get it!! Hopefully since you already work at the airport that will give you a leg up. Thank you for watching my videos.
Do you have to travel to other airports to work or do you usually work at the airport they hire you at?
I work at the airport they hired me. The same one the entire time.
Thanks!
You’re welcome.❤️
What is the ability test can you explain that thanks
Leah T I never had to do the agility test. My friends did and they said that when going against the machine have consistent strength throughout each position. That way it doesn’t detect an injury. Not sure though. That’s what I was told.
*I LOVE your videos, so helpful!! I'm trying to pursue my flight training but I need monies for my next 2 licenses. Great tips! Are you even able to use flight benefits though if you work so much, airport is open 24/7 you know I was wondering about that...* thanks for your video!
Thank you so much! I am definitely able to use my flight benefits a lot. I just trade with my coworkers and we help each other out. Congrats on your flight training pursuits!
Do ramp agents get free flights?
Tiffany Johnson they get the same benefits as everyone else. So yes, at my airline they do.
Thank you.
I’m applying for Ready Reserve but already have a full time M-F job... is it possible to just work weekends?
Christopher Dones I think it depends. I was ready reserve in the past for delta and I worked nights 8pm - 12am. However, most times you will need to take off for weeks for training and that’s Monday-Friday. Also, sometimes you are not given trade privileges for the first 6 months. Good luck!!🍀
@@TheBohemianTraveler Thanks for the reply! I completed the online interview part, and I definitely could work 8-12 any night, but I'm not sure about taking off weeks for training (I thought it was on the job training). I guess I'll cross that bridge if I even get there... thanks again!
Wait! is ramp agent the same as baggage handler ?
Serene Samb I’m not sure.🤔 I know that my position is called ramp agent at my airline.
I want a job at united states plz tell me process
Gugulavath Naveen You need to apply online on the airline’s websites.
Plzz chat in wats app+971564319616
Howdo u get part time?
Michael Bucy you apply for part time. You can also bid for part time lines.
What about benefits?
TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsMagoo Hello. Yes, the benefits of flying the world make the job totally worth it. Thanks for watching!
I have ramp experience But I have a bad knee, is this is good or bad to apply for ramp agent?
dj.Ereck I think it would be bad because it would only exacerbate the problem. It’s very physical. Perhaps you can apply for another role within the airline?
The Bohemian Traveler thank you for your advice.
Thank you for your advice.
Starting at Airport Terminal Services as a ramper working for United on the 20th here in Columbus, Ohio, I'm super excited to start and your videos make it look like an amazing job. One question though relating more toward the hiring process, did you have to pay for your fingerprint and threat assessments or did the company cover it?
John Young Congratulations!!! No, the company paid for it.
@johnyoung did you get drug tested and if so did they test you on the spot at the airport or schedule you to go somewhere? I have an interview with ats in reno today and just was curious ?
91sicsicsicX 91sicsicsicX I was drug tested off-site at LabCorp same day. Good luck with your interview!
I have been a Ramp Agent for 10 years now for Delta and i love it good company pay benefits not everyday is the same, you deal with lazy co workers and some times 200+ pound electric wheel chairs, and also HR's ( Human remains)
JakkeYe Delta is the best!! Never a dull moment in this industry. Thanks for watching!
Does delta pay well
hello just wanted to let you know I am almost hired as a ramp agent I just have to go and take my exam for my badge and ill be working at LAX and your videos has helped a lot

@@TheBohemianTraveler thank you . Now I just have to get ready for the test to get my badge and ready for the 8hours of home work . Just hope I pass cause I not good at exams
emmanuel quiroz Awesome! You’ve got this!!🙏🏾

Going to Start ramp with Air Canada soon
Congratulations!!!
How was your experience? I'm considering it!
Shervin Seil Sepour well I’m 3months in and I find it pretty chill here. It’s not has bad as people say it is. I didn’t get to bid for a shift cuz I’m near the bottom in seniority so the hours change up a lot, I’ve been lucky enough to get some good times tho. It may vary per airport tho. I’m at Toronto’s main airport at CYYZ but I enjoy it.
@@davede1999 alright, good to know man. I might join up in the same airport. Thanks
are you in a union?
Marco Gomez No. There is no union at my current job.
The Bohemian Traveler I applied for southwest as a ramper and they are Union. Just don't like the idea of union fees being withdrawn from my check. Do you think being union is good?
Marco Gomez southwest is good and they treat their employees well. I think the union is there to protect you and keep the company accountable. I think it will be fine.
i’m in the process for jetblue GroundOps and this hiring process is making me so anxious lol i checked it says i’m in the compliance cleared stage so hopefully i start soon! i’m very excited!
