I feel like this new All Too Well connects to so many songs in the album it all fits

don't think of the 10 minute version as "being extended" or "added on to". This is the original version. the one we had for 9 years was cut down and shortened

i’m gonna get hella shit on for this but i think some of the “original” lyrics are new. this is not hating in any form i’m a huge fan and have been for over 10 years so obviously i still love the song; but the new parts feel more like her recent-er albums in terms of writing style
@@nature598 yup. “did the love affair maim you too?” was definitely written by post-2020 Taylor. And that’s not a bad thing. It’s a very poignant lyric, no matter when it was added to the song.

@@nature598 there are a few lyrics I’m fairly confident are new-Taylor, but the only one I’m absolutely certain about is “I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age.” Now that the new lyrics absolutely confirm our suspicions this was about Jake G (21st Birthday was mentioned and that’s who she was dating then) a quick google search reveals he’s dating a 25 year old (22 when they started, a 7 year larger gap than when He and Taylor were dating 10 years ago) so I’m confident that’s a new-Taylor line.
Sorry if this comment lost coherence towards the end. I just wanted to get all that stuff typed out now while it’s fresh in my mind.

The end of All Too Well literally sounds like it could’ve been on August. I was confused by the ending at first, but it actually proves the fact that she still remembers it all too well. The echoes, the reverb and the repetition of the lines are perfect and are symbolizing how the memory keeps going through her mind again and again and again
I totally agree it sounds just like a song from folklore

The song is like a how breakup. It begins, denial, anger, and let go, that’s why it fades at the end because it’s like she’s letting go

no because ALSO! the line "i was never good at telling jokes but the punchline goes "I'll get older but your lovers stay my age"" is even more savage when you connect it to Begin Again where she says "I think it's strange that you think I'm funny cause he (Jake) never did". It's like a massive middle finger. Like "yeah, you never thought I was all that funny, but how's this for a joke!" And then proceeds to absolutely decimate him

The reaction to the 21 lyric. I was sitting on my bed and ended up on the floor crying
The thing about this song is it mentions almost every other song in the Album which is why this album is about a heartbroken woman. It actually shows up in some subtle ways.
22 doesn't really make a whole lot of sense in the context of the album because it's almost a party song. But with this, it turns 22 into a spiteful reflection of the end of the relationship where she's starting over and drowning her sorrows.
Seeing Michael slowly break down during the All Too Well (Taylor's 10 min ver) is EVERYTHING I was laughing so hard because same, those were my initial reactions too 😭

Also just realized that 22 comes right after the short version of all too well.
“I'll get older, but your lovers stay my age" - Is a really good punchline for a joke about them. Him being a joke part of it all. He told her she was too young, that is why they didn't work out, but he kept dating women same age as she becomes as years goes by. So his remarks about her being too young were total joke of an excuse. Cruel excuse too, he chose something she couldn't change about herself, and what put all fault on her and made her feel lacking and not enough at the time. But now when time passed she see his dating record and can clearly see that he was full of shit all along, cause he keeps dating girl in same age as she would have got with years if they have stayed together, why would you do that if age was a problem that broke one of your relationships. It seems "Been there - done that" logical deduction of mistakes principal doesn't apply to this guy.
He totally gaslighted her in the past.
Something I noticed:
All Too Well 10 min - "All's well that ends well, but i'm in a new hell"
Lover - "All's well that ends well to end up with you."
It's like when she wrote Lover, she realized that Joe is the one. She's really been through stuff with relationships and hearing those similar lines made me so happy for her, that she was now in a great relationship. The original All Too Well made me teary but the 10 min one made me ball my eyes out.

Your entire lead-up to listening to All Too Well again was 100% accurate and perfect. You speak for us all with the "You can't keep getting away with this!!" Also, just a note that she didn't add to the song to make the 10-minute version. This is the original and she had to cut out a ton of it to make a song that could be played on the radio.

The "'fuck the patriarchy' keychain" line is her calling out the irony of this older man having a keychain that says that while dating someone as young as her and messing with her head.
Not only that, but the implication of him ‘tossing her the car keys’ when she clearly wasn’t ready or expecting it, and them falling on the ground is doubly upsetting…
I love how the first time listening to All Too Well 10 minute version is a special experience for every fan, and truly a one I will never forget. Now I´m trying to learn all the words so I can sing the whole thing through, but it is honestly gonna take some time, because every part is unique and the original version alone took some time.
Also my favorite thing about "Nothing new" is that its vibe is 100% that of phoebe Bridgers and all her music. You need to check her music out for sure

And they started dating in 2018 which means she was 22 and jake was 37 when they first started dating. My jaw literally dropped when I heard her say that.
That is exactly what I wanted to say about All Too Well. It is extremely graphic. She uses her words and the musical line to paint you this whole story and you are literally visualizing the whole thing in your mind without even knowing it. A lot of people can relate because the heartbreak is so well described that it hits you no matter what. I do believe that it will also be #1 this year.
So in case you haven't noticed yet, it's "I'd take that bomb in your HEAD and disarm it." it's a song about her friend that struggled with mental health/ addiction who ended up passing from an OD. As someone who has struggled IMMENSELY with mental health that song really touches me.

message in a bottle is one of my faves lol. I think it does feel out of place in the context of the vault tracks but in terms of the original album I think it works. with songs like I knew you were trouble, starlight, and even 22, there’s already pop/dance music on the album, so it does fit in there for me.

My favorite thing about the 10 minute version is how she didn’t only keep the hero’s journey aspect of the original, but she expanded on it. Such a master class at storytelling and song writing.
I definitely recommend checking out Phoebe Bridgers music, her writing and voice are incredible

All too well becomes a whole new level of pain when you think about the emotional manipulation, gaslighting, and the huge age gap between her and Jake. He kept telling her that she remembered things incorrectly, and so she keeps repeating "i was there, i remember it all too well" because he keeps trying to tell her she's being crazy. She turns her memory into a weapon, he tried to make her doubt it but now she is using it against him. She remembers everything that happened, and as much as he denies it, he does too.

Oh gosh you literally had me crying during parts of this! RED is the most cathartic Taylor album & the 10 minute version is just magical and adds so many layers to the original. The fact that this material was written 9 years ago is mind blowing. I love the fact that Taylor has let go of a lot of the constraints that she used to be held back by of rly releasing her creativity, this whole re-recording journey is like reliving my late teens.

Forever winter has to be my favorite. As someone whose best friend also committed suicide it mean so much to me. She wrote it about her best friend who was battling depression and unfortunately lost. The lyrics, “if i was standing there in your apartment I’d take that bomb in your head and disarm it. I’d say i love you even at your darkest and please don’t go” completely ruin me. I’m so grateful to her for releasing this song.

She didn't extend All Too Well. The original was the cut version of the 10 minute version. The longer version already existed when Red was originally released.

It took me three listens to understand the Forever Winter is about Taylor worrying about a loved one struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. "All this time I didn't know, you were breaking down. I'd fall to pieces on the floor, if you weren't around. Too young to know it gets better, I'll be the summer sun for you forever. Forever winter if you go." It's such an upbeat song and then the lyrics just punch you in the gut.

The way I ugly cried through the whole lyric video for Ronan (as I knew I would). I thought All Too Well 10 minute version was going to break me, and it didn't. The addition to the song showed the relationship in a new light. It went from being a song about a heartbroken girl, to a song about a heartbroken girl who was treated so poorly, the short film really showed the gaslighting and manipulation of her emotions.
