The through-arc this season seems to be ginormous beings and Kaiju. The Emergence this episode had a Celestial. And, they might be setting up the two-part finale to be the other Watchers taking out Oatu. Perhaps with many of the "larger than life" characters involved.
I was so happy/excited to see Mysterio return to the MCU through this episode of "What if..?" and it was awesome to see White Vision return again as well even if it was only for a short amount of time. Riri had some really great and brutal moments in this episode. It's kind of crazy to think she would have lost if it wasn't for The Watcher's interference, but I'm glad he did because she had a really great final moment. Giving the rest of Earth's survivors something they haven't had in who knows how long. Hope. Similar to another superhero related thing that was released earlier last week, she encourages the survivors of Earth to look up in hopes for a brighter and more beautiful tomorrow. Another banger episode in my opinion, 9/10!
I mean…she basically did, which I love her power up but hate the fact that photon isn’t involved in this season save for being a second in command to Sam Wilson…. Like I actually hate that.
I think the biggest issue is people constantly say they have comics to pull from which is true. But they are forgetting this “What if” is blending the MCU and Comic material, not simply using the comics.
In theory I like the idea of a Riri vs Mysterio conflict- the tactile, pragmatic engineer vs the illusory showman. In execution, I found this episode full of a lot of really strange, arbitrary-feeling choices. That said, I DO appreciate that it’s one which finally pumped the brakes on the silliness. I don’t think there was a single moment of levity in the whole thing.
So this is what happens if The Emergence had happened? Thank god for the Eternals. Riri Williams, Mysterio, White Vision… and the Watcher broke his oath again. Can’t blame him. After seeing the world where Hank Pym killed the Avengers, the one where Strange Supreme destroys his world, Killmonger destroying Stark and Wakanda, Ultron destroying everything and even the Zombies one, I’d want to intervene to change the fate of that world as well. Mysterio really is a threat. Proof why he is one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous enemies.

Maybe not this exact thing since the Watcher said this Universes Emergence happened before the Eternals assembled again (and the MCU Emergence happened after Mysterio seemed to have died), but either way, whatever would have happened had the Emergence happened in the Sacred Timeline it wouldn't have been a good time for those living in that Universe.
