I have reactions to all the songs, nicely packed in this playlist. Thanks for watching! ruclips.net/p/PLG217Y9Pofu46BdC9D0aJKKEBuFjXplPo
Nothing can fill this hole, but I would love for you to react to Morgan Clae's stuff, she's also developing her own musical, and she has some great songs, both covers and original stuff
i love how it comes after the guy says "open arms", the phrase/mentality Odysseus has tried his hardest to live with but just refuses to acknowledge, polites is heartbroken in the underworld
I love how collectively we're all like, "great vocals, you need to go, sir." 😂 I imagine after Antinous said he would dump Telemachus' body in the ocean Poseidon, still bleeding would be like, "Hell no! Keep me out of this!"
His vocal performance is amazing, but the song leaves no ambiguity about the character being pure evil. I appreciate that the animatic they used for him singing about Penelope shows Antinous with an absolutely psycho expression.
I honestly don't think Penelope asking "What kind of things did you do?" implies that there's a chance she won't forgive him depending on how he answers, or that she's angry. Rather, it's more proof of how strong their marriage is. She doesn't dismiss his guilt and angst, she doesn't tell him to forget about what happened or say that it doesn't matter because he's home now. She wants to share the burden _with_ him instead.
YES! She wasn't trying to put him down or dismiss him, she wanted him to tell him what he's been through so she can be there for him and share his burden.
Plus, you have to remember: This is Odysseus' wife. There's no way in hell she's not also a crafty, tricksy woman, too. HOW long was she fending off suitors, again?
"Hold Them Down" is such a good villain song... but I'm sorry, I cannot stop myself from singing "I heard today is Telemachus's birthday" because of that one brilliant parody :D
Fun fact: Scientifically nobody could string the bow cause it was a recurve and none of them knew how since it was an abnormal type BUT Mythologically(according to some sources) it was enchanted by Athena to only be useable by Ody and his house
@@ThePr1nceOfNothing recurve bows have a different technique for stringing then say a longbow does. The suitors wouldn't know this technique because the bow was a special gift to the king of Ithaca, and therefore was very rare
@@ThePr1nceOfNothing In addition to what schoolsenpai said it also has a rather absurd draw strength, which means it has more power but requires more arm strength to shoot than the suitors have. It might also be blessed in that regard so Ody can use it more easily.
31:31 I think Odysseus’ message to Athena is basically “I can’t make that dream come true anymore. It’s too late for me. But you can. Create that world for the future.”
Is the Cyclops struck with grief when he kills is he up in the middle of the night? Or does he end my men to avenge his friend, and then sleep knowing he has done them right? When the witch turns men to pigs to protect her nymphs is she going insane? Or did she learn to be colder when she got older and now she saves them the pain? When a god comes down and makes a fleet drown is he scared that he's doing something wrong? Or does he keep us in check so we must respect him and now no one dares to piss him off?
Penelope - "The King's old bow" Suitors - "The Old King's bow" Nah bruh the subtle differences are crazy. [edit: ALSO THIS LIVE WAS GAAAAS!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It ain't even "The King's old bow" it's "My husband's old bow." And it's a subtle detail but she says that whoever succeeds the challenge will "Be the new king, sit down on the throne, and rule with me as their queen." She very carefully never once says that they will be her husband. They will be king, this palace will be theirs, and she will act as queen. But she only has one husband.
22:34 Just to clarify, because it took me a few watch throughs to understand what was happening here myself, but basically, the order of operations here is that Odysseus locked their weapons away, but Telemachus, after coming home from his diplomatic mission to a massacre, unlocked it to arm himself, forgetting to lock it back up. That's what "I find it hard to believe that the sharpest of kings would leave his armory unlocked" is referring to- it wasn't Odysseus who left it unlocked, it was Telemachus.
You know you are so right his voice is like butter, then it turns into acid when he starts to talk about Penelope. Like it is still smooth it just hurts
His voice is my second favorite in the whole musical. Ok wait no that’s wrong it’s like a third or four I think. Poseidon is number one, then Athena, Penelope, and then either Zeus or this guy.
One thing I absolutely _love_ about Penelope is her heart. When Odysseus started to get angry, when the monster kicked in at her asking him to break the bed, she met him at that level. Penelope harmonized with the part of him he was terrified of her knowing, basically saying, “I don’t care what you’ve done! You’re my husband! I’ve loved you for the twenty years you were gone, and I’ll keep loving you!” An absolute legend on _so many levels_
I love the double meaning in Penelope's bed test- it hits the original meaning of testing that this is really Odysseus- and utterly refutes his attempts to back out/away from her- and you can see her also refusing to backdown in the face of Ody's building rage. She is and has always been his perfect match.
She not only didn't cower when faced with his anger, she met it with her own! "I have no doubts you've suffered, I'm not questioning that. I'M JUST SAYING! MY LIFE HASN'T BEEN EASY NEITHER!" Yeah, perfect match these two.
@@refilwe9954I mean, she literally is a Spartan. She’s the cousin of Helen, who Menelaus married to become king of Sparta. Another thing is that Penelope helped Odysseus come up with the plan of getting all the suitors of Helen to swear to defend her marriage and husband, which allowed them not to all fight each other over Helen, and convinced her father (or uncle can’t quite remember) to let Odysseus marry Penelope.
In case you didnt know, most of the cast are actually at Ithaca in Greece while they were recording the premiere, so technically livestream was pre recorded and wasnt live, hence the video being premiered rather than a live video because they had trouble livestreaming due to connection issues
Can we talk about the animatic at 11:46? Antinous' fantasy being played out with those creepy eyes was bone chilling. And the lyrics drive home how evil he really is
Honestly, the use of motifs in Epic is _so strong._ Turning "My Goodbye" into a fond farewell, and "Just A Man" into a triumphant refrain as Odysseus finally embraces the woman he loves, reframing it as finally being where he belongs and devoting himself to what matters most... It's genius. *EDIT:* Actually, there's something I need to point out. In 'Just A Man', Odysseus said, "Deep down, I would trade the world to see my son and wife." In 'I Can't Help But Wonder', Athena leads by pondering whether there could be a better world, and Odysseus tells her that, as a goddess she can probably create one, but he, as _just a man,_ has to pass on looking for that world, because there's something else he needs to do. Then we get that triumphant reprise when he reunites with Penelope, and it's the part of the melody that would be playing as he says he would trade the world to see his family again. _Odysseus is doing the thing he said he would do at the beginning of the story._
13:00 fr Antinous is SO WELL WRITTEN you can't help but hate him. You want him to meet an unpleasant end as soon as possible because he's so completely detestable. Ayrons buttery smooth voice almost distracts you from how disgusting what he's saying is, he says it so confidently and you just really really want him to get what he deserves. And then Ody coming in to protect his wife and son like a BAMF I was so pumped
@@dustyroo666 it was a recurved bow, something not too common in greece, or so i read somewhere. So makes sense that no ammount of strength would do it, it needed wits. As for enchanted i'm not sure, just recall it being mentioned to be a gift in the books last i read, but it's been a while
@@dudaalmeida4040 Pretty sure it was the bow of Heracles. So it could be enchanted depending on his myths (because there are a million that often contradict each other)
"You dont think i know my own palace? I built it!" Is the most raw line in the entire musical, i have been waiting for this song ever eince it was titled "King" and it was more satisfying than i could have been prepared for, hands down "Odysseus" jumped up to one of my top five songs.
@@speedy01247Yeah but I guarantee you Odysseus has been dreaming of that place every day since he left for Troy, bro still knows it like the back of his hand
24:11 such a cold part. Jorge sounds so terrifying and Odysseus IS terrifying. Antinous has been dancing around that word about Penelope, and Ody just went and say it. It’s so powerful and I love it.
The implications of the only way to move the bed is cutting the tree off it's roots means he murtured the tree to grow and carved it, guided the branches and finally made/built a bed, that one always makes me cry, so touching and lovely
FR. His slow, growing horror as the song progressed made me feel so validated 😂 I was SHOCKED the first time I heard it 'cuz mx. Impatient had to put the album on before bed without checking any of the socials LOL
8:40 someone already mentioned that Odysseus had a trick to string it so he was the only one who could, but you are correct. I've been doing archery most of my life, the tension and bow weight play a huge factor in it as well, especially if you're not accustom to the bow/stringing bows in general.
The trick was it was to be bent backwards. Not to mention it was a particularly strong bow for the time as well. Along with the feat of shooting an arrow cleanly through the axe heads, it's was truly a challenge that only Odysseus could win.
I love that they kept the tone shift of the books, throughout the story Odysseus thinks his way though any obstacle and tries to find an alternative that doesn't end with killing someone UNTIL the end where he just locks his house and unalives 100 suitors (His son and his two friends actually helped him in the story)
The two friends in question are actually Odysseus' most trusted pig farmer (irony) as well as Peisistratus, Son of Nestor and was a seer of some sort. In the Odyssey (for those who don't know) Peisistratus actually predicted that Odysseus was ALREADY in Ithaca by the time Penelope issued The Challenge
@meangenec1 Which is an INSANE NOTION!!! Was no one there to say, "My king, we can just use the wood from the tree to build the bed. The house can be anywhere." ?
@ The wedding bed was about more than just it being the tree where they met, it being built into an actual tree was representative how their love couldn't be moved or shaken as it was literally in the ground That's why he gets so angry when Penelope suggest he move the bed
@jordanlyons2609It's also a metaphor for building their home around their love for each other. In the same way that the palace is built around the bed, their lives are built around that love.
Poseidon wouldn't want that heat of associating with a dead Telemachus. He already got stabbed by Ody once, he ain't asking for seconds or tenths. Also I remember the short that called this song King. I have been hyped af for this song and that moment Ody over here saying "You think I don't know my own palace? I BUILT IT!" Also if you listen to the background near the end of Odysseus, you can hear the bow being fired with each arrow to the head of a suitor. Love that detail. Also also, that final song makes me tear up every single time. It's a wonderful song to end this all on.
Originally it was called king, but they changed it to Odysseus to fit the theme of him becoming the monster. Because every other song with a name as the title was representing the monster in the song. Examples being scylla and polyphemus. Ody also learns from all the enemies he's fought 1. Ruthless from Poseidon 2. Trapping his opponents from polyphemus 3. Aiming for the torches from scylla 4. Killing all of them to protect his loved ones from circe Not to mention the choir chanting his name in the same manner as polyphemus in survive
I honestly think Poseidon would just pull up on Odysseus and go , “Hey your son is dead and this guy did it. Go have your fun!” Then leave with extreme quickness.
The bed challenge covered a couple bases, 1 - Only Ody would know that to move the bed, he would need to cut the roots. It’s a test to confirm it really is him (thought she was like 98% sure of that already since Telemachus already talked to him). 2 - It pushes Ody’s claim that he’s not the man she knew aside, because the man that loved her enough to carve their wedding bed out of a living tree is clearly right there if he was about to lose his mind about the mere request of getting rid of it. 3 - It provoked Ody enough to anger him so Penelope could show him that not only did his rage not scare her, but that she could meet it with her own spartan rage. It really adds to the story that Ody needed Athena, the literal goddess of wisdom, to give him a boost to cuff her in the first place 😂
Fun fact: most of the cast members are in Ithaca Greece right now, jamming out throughout the entire time! The stream itself is a whole wild journey with the voice actors acting out each’s characters and it’s literally chaotic (in the best way ofc) We are in the suitors’ POV for Hold Them Down and Odysseus so the entire part abt Odysseus disguising as a beggar in the palace is omitted, sadly. There’s Telemachus’s diplomatic mission which is his own journey to other kingdoms like Pylos and Sparta, accompanied by Athena who disguised herself as Mentor (I’d like to think that’s also what happened here, cuz you can see she’s with Telemachus for the entire time). And I’d like to imagine Odysseus shooting through 12 axes to get the arrow to Antinous’s throat at the end of Hold Them Down, completing the entire challenge like he did in the Odyssey!
Odysseus in disguise is very subtle. Like, 558 men subtle. He's there singing along near the end, supposedly most audible in the left ear, best heard with headphones.
Ody forgot Penelope was a Princess of Sparta not Athens. her people vibes with Ares as the main god, Spartan kings are almost always monsters to those that disrespect them.
19:57 the sad thing is I think in The Odyssey this suitor was actually one of the nicer ones, but in this song, I don't feel like he would have actually stopped playing Odysseus (there's just something about the fact that he keeps calling him "Old King" that feels really disrespectful even as he's begging for his life) and obviously Odysseus heard him try to use plagiarize polities, so he had to die.
I may have only read parts of the original Odyssey, so anyone that has read the full one feel free to correct me (and apologies if you did and I'm wrong here) But the wiki says he was one of the two main suitors besides Antinous, and the more manipulative one of the two - hence instantly shifting all the blame on the dead leader. At one point, he even managed to deceive Penelope into believing in his lack of evil intent Also Penelope's favorite maid was his lover
@@TailsFan oh, okay, I guess that makes sense, it also makes sense why people would say he was nicer than the other ones, because it's such a low bar that even if he's a a manipulative dirtbag, he could still pass for nice whereas the others really couldn't'(I've only read part of the Odyssey as well, so it's nice to have a bit of clarification)
This one is the suitor believed to have had the biggest chance to actually get Penelope, really he’s just the most manipulative one. I think in the original he tries to attack Odysseus right after his ‘please spare us the main villain is dead’ speech (and he dies in doing so obviously).
The bow was a special weapon made specifically for Odysseus that had specific technique required to string it. It also had a draw strength of around 500 pounds
Just noticed when hunting the suitors he uses the same tactic as Scylla (“keep your head down he’s aiming for the torches”) - a reminder that “we are the same you and I” ? Except now he’s doing it to save the people he loves instead of dooming his friends
My man your freaking amazing. Your one of the only people who recognized that penelopes test was more her telling him that he hasn't changed and he's still the same man she fell in love with.
When Antinous was singing about what he wanted to do I was like- someone ending him for the love of everything and than Ody did. The sound I made. Finally he was gone, it was so satisfying. I was like- yes Ody, now do it again, about 100 times. Become their boogie man the same way they were to Telemachus.
YES!!!, your reaction to the wedding bed part was perfect, it wasn't just a test to confirm it was Ody, it was to prove to Ody that he is still the same man!
The challenge was always great because its shows not only odysseus's wisdom but strength The bow odysseus uses is unique and could only be stringed if you knew how (some movies did a fantastic job of showing it where you need to bend the bow by using your thigh while stepping through it.) even if you did pull it off the bow had an incredible draw strength so even when a suitor managed to string it the pure strain of drawing the bow made the axe shot impossible. People somtimes dont get just how clever the challenge is and how smart Penelope is. The challenge is a perfect test of a king, the bow requiring both strength and intelligence to even string. Penelope while hopeful didjt know if odysseus survied or would ever come back so she made the challenge to ensure if anyone was going to be the king and her husband it would be a strong and wise man.
23:13 that diplomacy mission was a pretty big part of the Odyssey where Athena helps Telemachus to find out what happened to his father but that story line got cut in the musical. You can still find some of the cut songs on youtube or his patreon
I really love the song Odysseus, because for one, it's named after him just like "polyphemus" in the Cyclops saga and "scylla"in the thunder saga, so he is now the final boss monster that everyone dies trying to fight (to make an even better the choir is literally chanting his name just like they did with Poseidon, that is just so cool and so terrifying)
Honestly, after hearing Hold them Down, when Antinuous says "Only the Ocean and I will know", I like to think it implies "only Poseidon and I will know", cause we all know Poseidon would be for that idea of getting rid of Telemachus and throwing him into his ocean.
@@user-nm1lx8qb3u it’s not like Poseidon would do anything wrong. He’s just simply willing to keep the secret for Telemachus. There’s really nothing Odysseus could do to him.
Thing I like about the "bed" move is that it wasn't just his whole fear of being a changed man after all the murder and loss he was through and she is like, "You dummy, you're still my husband."
When you walked away to get a belt or anything to throw at Antinous is something we all done at one point. The part where Ody offs that man and starts cleaning his home is wonderfully done. And Telemachus coming to fight suitors was great. I couldn't believe it. Our boy grew so much. Great reaction. You could check cut songs from Epic, they are good.
It makes me mad that we're supposed to hate the suitors, but they have all the best sing-along parts 😂 Jorge went balls to the wall with this and it was truly EPIC Also context for the bow, it was ridiculously strong and had hundreds of pounds of force, but since he received it as a gift, Odysseus never took it to war
The type of bow Ody would probably would've used is called a palintonos bow which is Bent backwards on it's relax state, so stringing it would be hard if you don't know the proper technique.
Regarding "The Challenge", its theorized that Penelope sees this storm as a sign because the last time they saw a storm like this (a storm from the gods) it washed away Odysseus and his crew. Its not just a random storm, this is presumably the same storm that took him away.
00:08:22 The reason no one could string his bow is because it was made specifically for Odysseus' immense strength. This meant that he would be the only one with the physical ability to bend the bow and draw the string to string it, effectively symbolizing his unique identity and heroic status. The same goes for the "shoot through twelve axes cleanly" is a reference to something ONLY Odysseus could do. If one of the suitors managed to string the bow and shoot through the axes, she would know it was Ody coming home. What's not really shown is that in the mythology, Athena actually changed Odysseus' appearance so the suitors would not recognize him; that's why him being able to string and shoot, winning the challenge, signified that it was him.
The draw strenght was one element, but the bow was also a special design that had to be string in a specific way that only oddiseus would know. The axe thing was similar in that it was a party trick that oddiseus used to do. Basiquelly the whole point of the challenge is that its so specific to oddiseus skills that no other man coudl ever accomplish it, no manner how strong or dexterous they may happen to be.
Also that it is a recurve bow instead of a longbow like was common in those times was a great help as because of how rare they were and that they need a different way of stringing only a few would know how so the combination of a different way of stringing together with the strenght needed to do it and the 12 axes makes sure the chance someone could do it would be minimal only a few others ( a few other royals) would know how to string it and even then the 12 axes would make it difficult for them
Odysseus did make the storm clouds cry for Telemachus, and he captured wind and sky for him. He took and unleashed the wind bag to beat Poseidon so he'd live to see his family, then forced the storm's end to make it home.
36:04 what I love about this section is that Odysseus isn’t just talking himself down and painting a monstrous picture of himself from before he left and Penelope shuts it down with the quickness! Such a power couple😤
7:25 Idk if this fun fact has ever been said but odysseus in the original did everything he could to avoid leaving for the war he even acted insane swinging his sword around or something and they had to put telemachus in his way to make him stop and thus prove he wasn't insane
I realized that the choir singing "Odysseus" is reprising the choir at the end of "No Longer You" .... when all he hears are screams like he claimed during "The Underworld". Good callback to my favorite saga!!!! 26:15-26:37
23:07 technically the diplomatic mission was a cover for them to go and figure out what happened to Odysseus, and this mission was ultimately how they found him, so it could be that telemachus left a little while before hold them down, and he secretly brought Odysseus back (obviously some things had to be on The cutting room floor because of time, but I think this is the gist)
I love how sweet and empathetic Penelope is when she asks him about what kinds of things he's done. With everything he said, it's obvious that it would've had to have been...something big to make her feel like she could never love him again. The fact she had such a thorough response after he shows her he knows about the wedding bed shows that she's thought about him and the things he could be having to do to survive, just like he's been thinking of her and wondering what his son must've been through while he was gone. She's smart enough to know that he's done enough that he hates that he's done to worry, and that he'd have to tell her and have her accept her to ever heal again or feel like their love going forward is real. That she actually knows him and who he is now, after everything he's been through. Instead of saying that it wouldn't matter what he's done, which seems to be how she actually feels, the first thing she does it let him get everything off his chest, and then she says it doesn't matter once he can believe it. It's really beautiful and empathetic.
Can't belive I was within the first minute of this video! Still watching it ofc but man everything about Oddyseus is so good! And can't wait to see your reactions

Little fact, Penelope is of Spartan blood, so her choosing a martial challenge is fitting. What I like to envision is that she chose this challenge because the Bow being so heavy to string speaks to Odysseus' strength, and his ability to hold the bow for the perfect shot reflects his patience and skill. What one portrayal I saw before showed that I love for Odysseus was that there was a trick to stringing it. Take one arm of the bow around the leg while the other is wrapped around the arm, flex them with your weight and your freehand strung the bow. This showed he was someone that could do what was seen as impossible by the lesser, with just some wit. Penelope at the end belting that beautiful "THAT MAKES HIM YOU!!" Just, OMG, QUEEN AMONG QUEENS!!! Odysseus you're the most blessed King in history!
20:39 I think Odysseus killed him immediately after he said “stay in our open arms” because it reminded Odysseus of Polites and all his fallen friends.
Stringing a bow takes a lot of strength- you've got to bend it without the leverage of the string. So they're proving they're not even strong enough to get the weapon into usable shape, let alone actually use it.
Not only that, but odysseus used a type of bow that was uncommon in those times, so only he knew the proper technique to string it. By failing to string it, the suitors are also showing that none of them are smart enough to figure out the technique, thus are unfit to be king.
So yeah, the bow is recurve, thus needs a stringer (a tool) or proper technique to string it rather than just brute strength as the suitors try. Odysseus knows the technique of course, cuz he's witty enough to know that.
I love your reactions so much! I have watched quite a few YTers that do them in regards to Epic, but I just adore your genuine, raw reactions. Looking forward to more of your videos!
I've heard the story of the bow challenge two different ways, one is that it would have been impossible for the suitors to make that shot because the bow has a draw strength of 500 lb, in this version Penelope would basically be snickering to herself, knowing that there was no way they'd be able to do it,. I have heard it another way though, this hunting bow was a gift that Odysseus received before the Trojan war, and he left it at home, so dispo would not be able to perform this feet right away, if one of the suitors knew how to take care of a bow and get it back and working condition, they might have been able to perform the shot in a few days, but they all assume it's a test of strength, and so they fail.
You were the first reactor I ever watched after getting into EPIC and needing to see others' thoughts, it's been a long journey and I'm so glad to be coming full circle and able to see your reaction to Ithaca saga now. So cathartic. It's been a wild ride. Thanks for reacting and sharing it with us, you're very insightful and all your reactions have been so cathartic.
Antinous made my stomach turn, even though I knew what was coming, I can only imagine how it was going into that verse having no clue. Been so fun watching you react to this. It's such a gorgeous musical and had the most beautiful ending- it's nice to see it getting the love it deserves.

The correct take.

Odysseus is feeling the wrath of Polythemus, the ruthlessness of Poseidon, and the protectiveness of Circe.
And aiming for the torches, like Scylla😊

Penelope - "The King's old bow"
Suitors - "The Old King's bow"
Nah bruh the subtle differences are crazy.
[edit: ALSO THIS LIVE WAS GAAAAS!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Her changing Ody's "You've been waiting for love" to "I've been waiting for YOU" also is such a masterpiece, she wasnt there for just any love, ma boi
@@LeviathanTamer31 RIGHT i love those little things, they make such a difference!
Dave: “I was about to get my belt or something.”
Odysseus: bow drawn “ Don’t worry… I got you.”
OHHHH THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE THANK YOU
I thought i was odesseys and he was hding in the shadows to come in and catch them off gaurd
that makes so much sense. cause i was confused and thought ody set a trap or something.
Oh so then when he's telling them to just leave maybe he knew his mistake and how his father was going crazy.
OH THANK YOU SO MUCH THAT MAKES SENSE
You know you are so right his voice is like butter, then it turns into acid when he starts to talk about Penelope. Like it is still smooth it just hurts
Like serpent
His voice is my second favorite in the whole musical. Ok wait no that’s wrong it’s like a third or four I think. Poseidon is number one, then Athena, Penelope, and then either Zeus or this guy.
One thing I absolutely _love_ about Penelope is her heart. When Odysseus started to get angry, when the monster kicked in at her asking him to break the bed, she met him at that level. Penelope harmonized with the part of him he was terrified of her knowing, basically saying, “I don’t care what you’ve done! You’re my husband! I’ve loved you for the twenty years you were gone, and I’ll keep loving you!”
An absolute legend on _so many levels_
12:32 mans was like "I looked away for two seconds. What the hell happened?"
I love the double meaning in Penelope's bed test- it hits the original meaning of testing that this is really Odysseus- and utterly refutes his attempts to back out/away from her- and you can see her also refusing to backdown in the face of Ody's building rage. She is and has always been his perfect match.
"Oh hell no you aint getting rid of me THAT easily"
Queen of Ithaca with Spartan aura. First the bow challenge and the bed question just to make sure
She not only didn't cower when faced with his anger, she met it with her own! "I have no doubts you've suffered, I'm not questioning that. I'M JUST SAYING! MY LIFE HASN'T BEEN EASY NEITHER!"
Yeah, perfect match these two.
In the words of another commenter from a different video, they both match each other’s FREAK!

@@midoi8161Even the vocals in that part made my skin crawl. It was so awful in the best way possible
8:25 The bow was specially made and needed a trick to string, only Odysseus knew how to string it
And the 12 axe haed thing to it was a party trick odi would from to entertain guests
wasn't the bow also enchanted or something?
@@dustyroo666 it was a recurved bow, something not too common in greece, or so i read somewhere. So makes sense that no ammount of strength would do it, it needed wits. As for enchanted i'm not sure, just recall it being mentioned to be a gift in the books last i read, but it's been a while

Your facial expressions during "hold them down" is priceless

17:45 this is the best reaction on Odysseus by far 🤣 the walking away is a MOOD, the ball and the stuttering 😭😭
Yeah, I actually felt like I had to punch something during the song
@henrybalgeman2100 "hey siri, set a reminder to get a punching bag or pillow the next time i plan to listen to the ithaca saga"
I feel like Odysseus strung the bow and shot through the 12 axes at Antinous. Only Odysseus can do that.
I hope someone animates that
That's what I wanted to happen.
Pretty sure in the original the bow was enchanted so only Odysseus or his bloodline could string it so he’s literally the one one who could.
In my mind that’s exactly what happened
I’m pretty sure that’s actually what happened in the original Odyssey :)
I, like you, had no idea about the wedding bed lore. That was such a good moment in such a short song.
It funny cause it means he made the bed THEN built a castle around it for the girl he loved
@meangenec1 Which is an INSANE NOTION!!! Was no one there to say, "My king, we can just use the wood from the tree to build the bed. The house can be anywhere." ?
@ The wedding bed was about more than just it being the tree where they met, it being built into an actual tree was representative how their love couldn't be moved or shaken as it was literally in the ground
That's why he gets so angry when Penelope suggest he move the bed
@jordanlyons2609It's also a metaphor for building their home around their love for each other. In the same way that the palace is built around the bed, their lives are built around that love.
"Such a short song", he says in reference to the longest song in the entire musical
I BUILT IT!"
Also if you listen to the background near the end of Odysseus, you can hear the bow being fired with each arrow to the head of a suitor.
Ody also learns from all the enemies he's fought
1. Ruthless from Poseidon
2. Trapping his opponents from polyphemus
3. Aiming for the torches from scylla
4. Killing all of them to protect his loved ones from circe
Not to mention the choir chanting his name in the same manner as polyphemus in survive
@schoolsenpai773 yeee. It fits well honestly
I honestly think Poseidon would just pull up on Odysseus and go , “Hey your son is dead and this guy did it. Go have your fun!” Then leave with extreme quickness.
The bed challenge covered a couple bases,
1 - Only Ody would know that to move the bed, he would need to cut the roots.
The stream itself is a whole wild journey with the voice actors acting out each’s characters and it’s literally chaotic (in the best way ofc)
We are in the suitors’ POV for Hold Them Down and Odysseus so the entire part abt Odysseus disguising as a beggar in the palace is omitted, sadly.
Penelope said the horrors are a part of the fun, he's her lil monster y'know?
Ody forgot Penelope was a Princess of Sparta not Athens. her people vibes with Ares as the main god, Spartan kings are almost always monsters to those that disrespect them.
19:57 the sad thing is I think in The Odyssey this suitor was actually one of the nicer ones, but in this song, I don't feel like he would have actually stopped playing Odysseus (there's just something about the fact that he keeps calling him "Old King" that feels really disrespectful even as he's begging for his life) and obviously Odysseus heard him try to use plagiarize polities, so he had to die.
I may have only read parts of the original Odyssey, so anyone that has read the full one feel free to correct me (and apologies if you did and I'm wrong here)
But the wiki says he was one of the two main suitors besides Antinous, and the more manipulative one of the two - hence instantly shifting all the blame on the dead leader.
At one point, he even managed to deceive Penelope into believing in his lack of evil intent
Also Penelope's favorite maid was his lover
@@ik8981 I'd say pretending to befriend Telemachus matches up with that description well, too.

The panic in your face as your were like “IS THIS A CLIFFHANGER” is golden lol
The challenge was always great because its shows not only odysseus's wisdom but strength
The bow odysseus uses is unique and could only be stringed if you knew how (some movies did a fantastic job of showing it where you need to bend the bow by using your thigh while stepping through it.)
even if you did pull it off the bow had an incredible draw strength so even when a suitor managed to string it the pure strain of drawing the bow made the axe shot impossible.
What's the song called? I wanna hear it
I really love the song Odysseus, because for one, it's named after him just like "polyphemus" in the Cyclops saga and "scylla"in the thunder saga, so he is now the final boss monster that everyone dies trying to fight (to make an even better the choir is literally chanting his name just like they did with Poseidon, that is just so cool and so terrifying)
Odysseus was aiming for the torches… “Eurylochus, light up six torches” 😁
20:06 the small kiss Jorge gives Tayla 💙 they’re adorable
Honestly, after hearing Hold them Down, when Antinuous says "Only the Ocean and I will know", I like to think it implies "only Poseidon and I will know", cause we all know Poseidon would be for that idea of getting rid of Telemachus and throwing him into his ocean.
Not if he wants to deal with Odysseus a SECOND time he won't!😨
@@user-nm1lx8qb3u it’s not like Poseidon would do anything wrong. He’s just simply willing to keep the secret for Telemachus. There’s really nothing Odysseus could do to him.

@@dualwieldroxas358oohhhh I hope so
The type of bow Ody would probably would've used is called a palintonos bow which is Bent backwards on it's relax state, so stringing it would be hard if you don't know the proper technique.
For those who don't know, Odysseus ' bow was something given to him, a gift . It was so strong that no one could string it but Odysseus
"Popeyes Chicken Biscuit Combo" had me going Dave🤣🤣🤣
He took and unleashed the wind bag to beat Poseidon so he'd live to see his family, then forced the storm's end to make it home.
the "I'm just a man" theme when penelope and ody were hugging 😭😭
36:04 what I love about this section is that Odysseus isn’t just talking himself down and painting a monstrous picture of himself from before he left and Penelope shuts it down with the quickness! Such a power couple😤
Man talking about how Antinous has a voice like butter when he himself sounds like he could narrate the encyclopedia and rack up tons of listens
"Hold Them Down" would leave you so disturbed at the end if not for that arrow.
22:10 I can't stop thinking about them "putting their hands in the air" 😂
HELP SAME
23:07 technically the diplomatic mission was a cover for them to go and figure out what happened to Odysseus, and this mission was ultimately how they found him, so it could be that telemachus left a little while before hold them down, and he secretly brought Odysseus back (obviously some things had to be on The cutting room floor because of time, but I think this is the gist)
The fact that the massacre is somehow more violent in the odyssey lol

Odysseus channeled his inner Dracula. These guys did *not* know with whom they were messing.

The cast Doing the live stream on Ithaca Greece was so utterly amazing ❤
So yeah, the bow is recurve, thus needs a stringer (a tool) or proper technique to string it rather than just brute strength as the suitors try.
Odysseus knows the technique of course, cuz he's witty enough to know that.

The Face Journeys are immaculate

Been so fun watching you react to this. It's such a gorgeous musical and had the most beautiful ending- it's nice to see it getting the love it deserves.
