I would like to see a series or feature that shows the transition of Voyager Seven to Picard Seven. Obviously, she had very little human interaction experience and was very robotic or detached in Voyager. But in Picard, she’s very different. She still has difficulty dealing with people, but no longer in a awkward way. Just a I don’t give a f$$k way.
I agree!! I think she played the Dr. perfectly! She managed to copy his way of speaking and body language in a very convincing way. And I don’t think the Dr. actions while in Sevens body was sexist. I’m sure if you entire existence was without sensations or feelings, anyone would indulge, regardless of sex.
D’al is a kid. He spent his whole life mistrusting or defying authority. Even though he’s learning to love the Federation, it’s hard not to be scared when you’re accused of destroying a whole ass base.
And at least 2 or 3 of these other points are just things that were probably made in good faith but seriously aged poorly. I suspect the Quark episode was intended to poke fun at misogynists rather than say anything negative about trans. Though the Musk one was just bad... quick research would reveal he just bought companies that invented things, rather than actually inventing things.
I agree Profit and Lace was well-intentioned and meant to poke fun at misogynists. But it plays certain scenes for laughs (e.g. a Ferengi trying to sexually assault fem!Quark) that really shouldn't have been. It's not the worst episode of DS9, but it is one of the most tone-deaf.
I admit I find the episode funny. But it's also pretty bad if you actually think about it. Seven is having her body violated while she watches. Not so unlike being borg. And when she calls out the Doc, he flips it around on her like she should be sorry.
As cringe goes, it's far far far less than the others on the list (except maybe the D'al one). And far less than some others I can think of (like pretty much everything to do with early Barclay). Really the only "cringe" to it is the "you got aroused in my body", which was delivered so well it's too funny to be upset at.
Agreed. This video is more of a list of fake virtue signals than it is about Star Trek. Also, Jeri Ryan's impression of Picardo was amazing. She is clearly much more than a smokeshow in a catsuit.
Not sure I can agree with #6. Being a show targeted at young teens, D'al reacted how you would expect him to react, because he's a teen himself. It's in line with his character.
Yeah i felt that one was off. D'al is effectively meeting his hero. Who else at that age (or any age tbh) would be able to string together a coherent sentence on the first attempt when meeting their hero, let alone having to deliver a message of "this may look bad, but...."
I belong to a Klingon LARPing group. We used to have Klingcon conventions with a potluck dinner. My tribble based dishes were a much anticipated staple of the buffet table.
TrekCulture: "The fact that everything was played off as a joke and focused on a cis man Quark pretending to be a woman made these scenes unbearable." Also TrekCulture: Let's photoshop Sean's head onto Seven of Nine's body for a laugh. ... real consistant guys.
For the older episodes (Those from the 90's and before) it's important not to judge too harshly, they are after all a product of their time. Having anything to do with gender and sexuality even be on Trek was something to celebrate back in the day and was a baby step to bigger and better things later on.
Often to get a progressive message across with holywood execs you need to have it mixed in with some Sex and/or Violence, you know just in case someone doesn't like the message, they will at least get something else from the show, and watch the ads and the ads on the next episode. While some of them were products of their time, others they knew it wasn't right but did it to get the show out. I am sure with new Trek in time some things we kinda overlooked would become cringe, and a lot of it we already know better, but just figured it is easier to write for.
And what's worse with Pike's comment about women on the bridge is that in the same scene there's another woman on the bridge at the console where the printout of the distress signal comes out.
If they showed all of discoveries cringe worthy moments we would have to rewatch the entire series from episode one to it’s merciful end. That is a fate I would not wish on my worst enemy or even Adolf Hitler.
The episode where Scotty is possessed with the ghost of Jack the Ripper and kills a bunch of women is pretty uncomfortable. Not to mention Kirk's very very uncomfortable interaction with the very child-like Miri.
I think the entirety of Sub Rosa was cringe, but two events stand out from that episode - Beverly being seduced by a cloud of Scottish chlorine, and Nana Howard coming back to life like a pisspoor Eighties rock video.
The storyline with Annika Hansen's implants is like the disaster of story with Odo: He became a "human" out of nowhere, but the writers realized, they had no idea for another standard humanoid and so there was another changling out of nowhere, died and this story arc was reset.
That was at least handled in an interesting way, it was a cliff hanger and for most part that episode is good. The idea that healing seven gives her the exact same implants in the eye and hand is pretty dumb
Surprised Galaxy's Child isn't on the list - that scene where Leah Brahms discovers the holodeck simulation and accuses La Forge of invading her privacy.... that scene is beyond cringe.
Presentism in decades-old episodes will never hold up. Cultures evolve over time. Stop putting things in present lenses and realize people decades or hundred of years from now will cringe at us for the same reasons. Also, the “Tuvix” episode wasn’t cringe? They’re killing another sentient being without his consent. How is that not murder? 🤷🏻♂️
They are saying that they are cringe-worthy now, not when they were made. Like looking back at your childhood or young adult photos and cringing at one’s clothes (that were stylish or liked at the time) or at one’s actions (that are now embarrassing or unacceptable or even just immature, even allowing for one’s age at the time). Not everyone can enjoy something just because it was a product of its time, especially if they themselves didn’t watch it then. Especially because Star Trek is supposed to be in the future and ostensibly our society, anachronistic beliefs break the willing suspension of disbelief in the show. Cringing at something doesn’t mean it is wrong or bad.
By that logic, Data isn't sentient either. While he wasn't created on accident, he's still a product of technology. Tuvix meets the criteria for sentience from "the measure of a man"; intelligence, self awareness and consciousness.
Disappointing to see this list as a platform just to berate Elon Musk, with veiled political overtones to the reasons why he is disliked with very one sided, subjective opinions posted as facts.

He refused to accept rescue because his ego was bruised from what he imagined she thought of him, even when she apologised profusely(despite having nothing to apologise for) in an attempt to save his life. Isn’t it great when you can use hindsight and modern cultural norms to assess things from the past. I wonder what the actors thought of those episodes at the time they were performed.
There was nothing that wasn't cringey about that tribble Short Trek. Everything including the socially awkward scientist and the nonchalant 'he deserved to die' attitude of the commanding officer
If the frengi acted any differently in that episode they would not be frengi, Of course the Klingons would laugh at a human male getting pregnant, Of course he would run from her when he did, if you watched the episode they were blamed at the time for the destruction of a star base, also you forget he was a kid. The fact that you make Elon Musk number one, made this list the most cringe moment.
I really love all of the trek information and insight, I just wish there were less political bashing. Number 1 was clearly more about the writers disdain for anything not progressive than about actual cringe.
Forty seconds in, paused. My mind is racing. I'm going to guess. - Sisko and crew dancing in that board game. - Paris and Janeway evolving into lizards and going for it. Because they went really fast. - That workout scene with Troi and Crusher. Like, for real - as if the regular outfits weren't bad enough. - Travis Mayweather and/or Neelix being on screen. - Kirk saying; "Full reverse! Emergency Warp! Do we have Emergency Warp?" in the Balance of Terror. - Everything about Discovery past the first episode. - Data saying 'I'm fully capable' to Tasha Yar - Khan saying his name in reboot 2. - *Every single time* they time-travel into our present day. Edit: Oh. It's about social justice. Never mind, I was hoping for a good time.
I love Trek Culture and watched since the beginning, but I will stop after those post. This was a political ideology video. Yes, Star Trek made some mistakes as viewed now vs in the present but that doesn't justify the Elon rant
No… just wrong on so many levels. Musk may be rich and you may not like that but he is an innovator and a person who isn’t afraid to think outside the box or to stray from the norm/herd mentality. It’s because of people like him that we may one day actually have Warp capability. You don’t have to like him but you shouldn’t make him out to be some sort of villain; the man has done some amazing things.
@@jobe457 There will never be a warp drive, but Elon musk types are the only way humans will ever get off this planet beyond USA vanity projects such as the space race that archived nothing once the job was done .
The seven-dr episode showed how impressive of an actress Jerry Ryan is. It wasn’t cringey at all. She not only replicated the dr in a woman body perfectly. She replicated it in scenarios he wouldn’t normally be in perfectly. And i think they were referring to Elon’s Mars endeavors that caused a race to mars. And generally all the inventions he contributed to space exploration
A lot of these episode are called out as "cringe" based on the CURRENT culture. People love to praise new trek for its inclusion of all kinds of people, but i'm sure some of the episodes we currently consider "groundbreaking" and "progressive" would be on a similar list in 20-30 yrs.
The season 2 episode of Voyager where Harry ended up accidentally changing the timeline so that he ended up not being on Voyager made me cringe. Not because it’s bad or anything, I thought it was a pretty good episode, but rather because something about characters doing something that makes them look/ sound crazy kinda makes me cringe.
Why do most of the comments seem to be thinking that “cringe” means something was bad? It can be hilarious,well-acted, entertaining, fair for its time, and also cringeworthy. These are not mutually exclusive.
There's plenty of evidence, not least the continuing retcon of World War III / The Eugenics Wars, to suggest that the _Star Trek_ prime timeline is not our timeline. So even without the reveal of Lorca's origin I figure there must be plenty of realities out there, perhaps including _Trek's_ prime reality, in which Elon Musk's character is closer to the one in _The Big Bang Theory_ than to the very mixed bag of pros and cons he exhibits in real life.
Curious that Stacey Abrams as "President of Earth" didn't make the cut as the single most cringe inducing moment in the history of Star Trek, especially considering her complete failure in elections, but the mere mention of Elon Musk sent you over the edge.
@@jodellestudios2048 The entire unnecessary politicization in this video made me a lose a lot of respect for the TrekCulture group. They should keep their political opinions to themselves, most of us simply don't care to hear them, one direction or the other.
The musk name drop was certainly cringe at the time when the episode aired but it in retrospect, given everything that happens in show and irl, it worked out rather perfectly. Now rewatching the scene gives me a good chuckle.
why was the starbase 80 reveal and the prodigy janeaway scene even included, neither is cringy, dal reacted as any teenaer when faced with owning up to authority, he panicked., and the starbase 80 was a running gag. Putting both above Code Of Honor in the list now that is cringeworthy. A grubby space station trumps racism, really?
I can think of enough things in every seson to meritva top 10 or 20. But i feel that fans who grew up with the older series will have completely different opinions with what's cringy in the post Discovery series.
I crined at Elon Musk. Why? Because it's not a good idea to include current-day individuals, like Elon Musk, on a list of "great" people. It's too early to tell if they will be remembered as positive or negative figures, and it would be disappointing if they were later found to have done something terrible.
As far as I'm concerned, Sub Rosa is way more cringeworthy than Code of Honor. It's the only episode of STTNG I refuse to watch again. Basically, it's like watching a bad episode of an early 1980s soap opera.
Exactly. This whole episode was waaaay more cringe than the throw away line of Elon yet they spent over 2 minutes going off on it like it was a main story plot or something. Truth be told I forgot about it. Seems like someone here has a political agenda more than cares about cringe episodes. This makes this video more cringe if you ask me.
Most of TNG's first season is cringe (and was then)...it's worst episode, however, is in its 2nd season. You could make an entire list just with Discovery.
I don't think y'all know what the word "cringe" really means or this supposed to be like Alanis Morissette's Ironic song where nothing on the list is actually cringe? Where's the entry for Beverly getting aroused reading her grandma's diaries? Where the anti-drug talk between Wes and Tasha? Where's Tasha telling Q's court to get on their knees to praise Gene for how great the Federation is or Tribble guy's captain acting like a brat to him?
I'm sorry but how is Admiral Brett Anderson's line from Battle of the Binary Stars not in here: "Because in fighting, we are not talking". That was cringe. It's like an Admiral read a Diplomacy for Dummies Guide on his way to the battle.
The politicalized statements about Elon Musk and Twitter does NOT belong in this video as it does NOT pertain to Star Trek. It's just a personal rant of hate against an individual that doesn't belong anywhere. Shame on you.
While I've casually enjoyed this channel, I have to unsubscribe. Star Trek has always been a great escape for me. I don't need that ruined by content like this.
I love how every time anyone brings up that Lorca praised Elon Musk, someone brings up that Lorca was from the Mirror Universe, and that, since everyone is opposites there, the Mirror Universe Elon Musk must be a genius because Prime Universe Musk is such an idiot.

Jeri Ryan is an accomplished actress. She did great in that episode.

Fun fact… supporting a death cult ideology that advocates for the prospect of men being able to give birth is *not* a culture norm.
Allamaraine, count to four,
Allamaraine, cringe some more,
Allamaraine, if you can see,
Allamaraine, you'll cringe with me…
actually besides code of honor, the whole discovery series is a cringeworthy moment.
There was nothing that wasn't cringey about that tribble Short Trek. Everything including the socially awkward scientist and the nonchalant 'he deserved to die' attitude of the commanding officer
Lorca is still waiting on his ancestral Tesla order
Hey, I saw that Red Dwarf 'Mind Swap' reference! You can't fool me.
The lack of self awareness 😂 this is by far more cringe than any of the cited examples.
After watching this, I'm sure this writer knows _all about_ cringe. 🙄
I can't be the only person to have seen the red dawf flashes
UGH. The Trouble with Edward should be excised from existence.
When it gets to Quark "acting" as a woman - let's not forget the Episode "Facets"
- Data saying 'I'm fully capable' to Tasha Yar
- Khan saying his name in reboot 2.
- *Every single time* they time-travel into our present day.
Edit: Oh. It's about social justice. Never mind, I was hoping for a good time.
I wouldn't really say cringe is an emotion it's more of a reaction to something
Love the red dwarf clips
I love Trek Culture and watched since the beginning, but I will stop after those post. This was a political ideology video. Yes, Star Trek made some mistakes as viewed now vs in the present but that doesn't justify the Elon rant
given that Lorca is from the terran universe it makes sense. Elon emulates everything terran humans glorify: power, wealth, domination, exploitation.
@@NJB74656 sure Jan.
@@jobe457 There will never be a warp drive, but Elon musk types are the only way humans will ever get off this planet beyond USA vanity projects such as the space race that archived nothing once the job was done .
@@NJB74656...what has Elon Musk PERSONALLY done besides purchase his way into boardrooms and take credit for actual engineers achievements?
@@NJB74656 Your reply is cringe.
Yeah, but this is "TrekCulture" we're talking about!
Hardly the sort of people who's opinions I'd take seriously!
20 year olds know nothing about being 40, until they are 40.
Time is in fact linear.
@@PhilBertran That is indeed how time works.
Canon of the week.
well also elon is pretty much a mirror universe character anyway so i can totally believe that he is a big player in early mirror universe history.
Curious that Stacey Abrams as "President of Earth" didn't make the cut as the single most cringe inducing moment in the history of Star Trek, especially considering her complete failure in elections, but the mere mention of Elon Musk sent you over the edge.
Ah, there's the Elcon puppy. How's the weather in Reich Whingeystan? Butthurt and full of cancel culture?
You know exactly why. She's their deity
Hey, let's not offend trans men with euterus's either
I feel you Travis. The swipe at republicans and conservatives was wrong.
I’m just glad I never liked him. The reference was cringe, but now it fits with it.
He was a leftist hero until he said something they didn’t agree with.
@@jobe457 The reference was awesome 👌 . Star trek is living in a fantasy land the rest of the time.

first bad list Ive seen on this channel, made me cringe more than most of the list lol
why was the starbase 80 reveal and the prodigy janeaway scene even included, neither is cringy, dal reacted as any teenaer when faced with owning up to authority, he panicked., and the starbase 80 was a running gag. Putting both above Code Of Honor in the list now that is cringeworthy. A grubby space station trumps racism, really?
I feel like you could make a list like this for every Trek series. In fact I would like to see that please!
I can think of enough things in every seson to meritva top 10 or 20. But i feel that fans who grew up with the older series will have completely different opinions with what's cringy in the post Discovery series.
Wokies can find a way to get offended at literally anything… so ya
The cringiest moment in all of Star Trek is hands down TrekCultures anti-Elon rant.
RIP Annie Wersching. So sad.
How did this turn into a 10 min dissertation on the evils of Elon?
Well this one riled them up. Keep up the good work!
Do remember, the musk reference was coming from a Terran...
Sevens' implants are a minor thing compared to Sub Rosa . . .
Honestly isn't discovery it's own list of cringe. The show is fucking awful
Anson Mount's version of Pike seems to have gotten used to having a woman on the bridge.
Tasha's 'Just Say No' speech...
Brie's attack on Elon Musk and those "baseless conspiracy theories of collusion" was more cringe than any of the moments mentioned.
Elon musk as a terran weapon scientist is a star trek plotline that i never knew i wanted. Thanks for the idea
Glad you got all preachy since I missed church on Sunday.
7:00 When "Tribble Cruelty" is mentioned the first thing that comes to mind is Kirk shoving one under his arm to free up both hands struggling to open the grain compartment door.
Not to mention Scotty's beaming them all over to a Klingon ship.
