I used to, as a kid, find DS9 boring and too political, especially compared to the exploration in the other series. As an adult, I realise it was bloody brilliant
I feel like I was the only child who enjoyed ds9 over the other shows. It was Bashir and O'briens friendship and Sisko and Jakes relationship that drove the show for me. As I never knew my dad growing up, Sisko was a a nice fantasy Dad. Yaknow?
Thanks for making these videos. DS9 isn’t the latest Trek, but it’s my favorite. The character growth and their interaction with each other was fantastic.
The Wire also introduced Enabran Tain, who then showed up again in the awesome two-parter "Improbable Cause" and "The Die is Cast" and then the awesomer two-parter "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light."
According to Nana Visitor is the DS9 documentary. The affair between Dukat and Kira's mother was originally written that Kira was the one who had the affair with Dukat. Nana Visitor angerily fought against that reveal forcing the writers to change it.
The fd up thing is in that same documentary, Marc Alaimo said his one regret on the series was Dukat never being romantically involved with Kira. And I’m just like “Either Alaimo just really wanted to kiss Nana Visitor, or he was just extremely tone deaf”
Really? It's a great episode and story (is a Garak episode ever bad?), but I always felt the actor playing the Romulan senator fumbled the line. He just didn't hit it right. And he was good throughout, but just did not deliver his most important line.
The episodic nature coupled with store archs made it very appealing, because you can jump in at any point and still enjoy it while at the same time if you watch it in order you are treated to another over arching story
DS9 was the biggest departure from the ST formula. That said, I never watched the show when it was on the air, but afterwards I see it as my second favorite (after Voyager) series.
@@yougosquishnow two things. 1. They are still on Netflix in Canada ( I’ve started re watching ds9 and enterprise on Netflix a month ago) and ………….why would they be on peacock? Shouldn’t they be on Paramount Plus+ as NBC does not own the rights to Star Trek, but Paramount does?
One minor correction. In the Pale Moonlight was told in Sisko’s personal log or “Captain’s personal log”. At the end he tell the computer to “erase that entire personal log”.
I always thought that it would have been interesting if Odo had joined the Founders midway through the series and had this huge character arc/redemption story.
DS9 was hands-down the best Star Trek series. They had incredible character development, intriguing characters, great storylines, fewer filler episodes, in incredible story arcs. It’s ball and chain was the banal, boring, and empty emissary/prophets/wormhole gods arc. If they would’ve left that garbage out, there would be very little to criticize in this series. It was just great TV.
Oh my god, I don't think a more hateable character has ever been than Chai Winn. Dude, every time you see her on screen and hear her voice you get a little angry
She was Lieutenant Commander Dax, not Lieutenant Dax. Check out her 2&1/2 pips on her uniform at 12:55. “Centered around the Trill, Lieutenant* Jadzia Dax… .” 12:59
DS9 has always been my favorite Trek. And Enterprise redeemed itself with the bad ending because it allowed me to watch again with a slightly different viewpoint (I can explain if you want, but it may take a minute) and I ended up enjoying it more on rewatch.
Second Skin also had a scene that was never shot in which Bashir told Kira that he couldn't confirm whether or not she was Kira Neyrs or Iliana Ghemor.
First "interracial" kiss on Trek? That took place on Space Seed, between a White West European female (Marla McGivers) and a South Asian male (Khan Noonien Singh; actor portraying him was Hispanic). Jake Sisko in _In the Pale Moonlight_ would not have worked, so good on them!
DS9 rotten tomatoes score is 91% while Star Trek Original Series only has 80%. No one says DS9 is inferior to Original Series. Only TNG is rated higher.
Honesty: While I found the actors portraying B. Sisko & J. Bashear to often be stilted and sub-par, especially compared to the others, I LOVED DS9. These were great episodes
I think Rejoined had more weight as a story with two women. It sometimes feels kinda... cheap? To do the 'society forbids our love' plot with like, two characters who would not face that kind of taboo in our world.
Im sure Marcus is a lovely guy but Im sorry he clearly isnt a star trek fan….he constantly pronounces names wrongly! I enjoy these videos when I KNOW that the person presenting is also a fan. Sorry Marcus but Sean and Adam need to be presenting these videos

Garak getting exiled over tax evasion would be the greatest thing I've ever heard.
Never mess with the IRS... Or the Cardassian equivalent.

It used to come on at 1 am and i would stay up to watch back when i was in high school
I found it brilliant as a kid too. I guess I understood the politics at younger age
I felt the way about the series as a kid. But after this video and your post, I’m watching the entire series to see what I missed. Thanks.
I feel like I was the only child who enjoyed ds9 over the other shows.

👍👏👏👏👏👏👍
To most, Enterprise was the latest Trek.
Calling Winn the Smiling Viper is a perfect fit for her.
The Wire also introduced Enabran Tain, who then showed up again in the awesome two-parter "Improbable Cause" and "The Die is Cast" and then the awesomer two-parter "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light."
Train did not appear in "By Infernos Light" (he died in the preceding episode).
According to Nana Visitor is the DS9 documentary. The affair between Dukat and Kira's mother was originally written that Kira was the one who had the affair with Dukat. Nana Visitor angerily fought against that reveal forcing the writers to change it.
Glad the change had been made. Still, even _that_ is just too exploitative.
The fd up thing is in that same documentary, Marc Alaimo said his one regret on the series was Dukat never being romantically involved with Kira. And I’m just like “Either Alaimo just really wanted to kiss Nana Visitor, or he was just extremely tone deaf”
Oh god, that would have been horrible.
@@CaptainEnglehorn everything Marc Alaimo has said about Dukat's character has been incredibly unhinged so this is pretty par for the course
To set the affair during the Occupation would have been a bad choice. Only way it works is if Kira exploits Dukat. But, probably still a stretch.
I think the speech from “pale moonlight” at the end is the finest moment in DS9
In second skin I feel they missed a trick by not having Seska be the Cardassian who they altered Kira to be.
Wouldnt that be voyager missed the trick, as Second skin came out in 1994 , voyager premiered in 1995
@@CaptainEnglehorn true
Seska was busy masquerading as a Romulan working with Starfleet on the Defiant project, at the time. ;)
"IT'S A FAKE!"

So fitting as I actually finished watching DS9 today, going through all the series on netflix
Gotta go to peacock now. A the others left netflix last year.

My favorite series. The politics, religion and war as major plot points wear handled well.
The religion was not handled well. The entire Bajor/Emissary arc was awful and embarrassing. It was the worst thing RDM ever wrote.
Ds9 is hands down the best trek show.
Special mentions for any Garak or Dukat episodes.
Yep. TNG is the famous one, DS9 is absolutely the best.

I love the videos on this channel in general, but it's always an extra pleasure to get a Marcus video!
Pale Moonlight is the best Star Trek episode.
I love rewatching deep space 9
Oh my god, I don't think a more hateable character has ever been than Chai Winn. Dude, every time you see her on screen and hear her voice you get a little angry
The last time I rewatched DS9 and saw her first appear my instinctive reaction was to think “ugh that bitch”
The best part is she also played Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Wouldn't be a Marcus video without the mispronunciations. I wonder if he has ever actually watched a full episode?
I cringed at Ro La'Ren...
This. Sadly this.
I'm sorry, but was that intentional?
Rolla Ren?
Ro Laren.
She and Mark A-lim-o are likely friends. (It’s A-LAY-mo)
My favorite Star Trek series by far ❤️
She was Lieutenant Commander Dax, not Lieutenant Dax. Check out her 2&1/2 pips on her uniform at 12:55. “Centered around the Trill, Lieutenant* Jadzia Dax… .” 12:59

DS9 has always been my favorite Trek.

I simply ignore that episode
Has this presenter ever watched ST, or is he just reading from somebody else's script? The way he mispronounces names suggests the latter.
He's always like this. Du-cat comes up a lot.
Also struggles with a few regular English words too.
The way he said “Ro Laren” would make you think it was one word…
Someone else writes it. Nick Edgeworth on this one. They need a narrator who has seen Trek.
Great episode always loved DS 9
This is very well written. Good job guys.
Second Skin also had a scene that was never shot in which Bashir told Kira that he couldn't confirm whether or not she was Kira Neyrs or Iliana Ghemor.
This should've stayed.
In the pale moonlight! :D
DS9 is by far my Favorite Series. By FAR.
Garak was always my favorite. By far the most dangerous person on the station…
Agree with these choices indeed. WELL DONE
DS9 has the best acting performances and great stories :-)
Marcus, you called Garak a spy-tailor.
He's just plain, simple Garak. A tailor on a Bajoran space station.
I didn't like it when I first saw it, but I think it's my favorite now.
Those were all really great episodes in their final form. DS9 is the most under-rated Star Wars series imo.
"...star _wars_ ..." Confused? Typographical error?
Best Trek ever.
Still my favorite Star Trek series!
Those were some good changes.

Star trek should make a a series with Academy. Showing how Picard and other got where they are.
The game Starfleet Academy was set in the original movie era and was really good. It featured Shatner, Takei and Koenig.
Fantastic video!
Honesty: While I found the actors portraying B. Sisko & J. Bashear to often be stilted and sub-par, especially compared to the others, I LOVED DS9. These were great episodes
'Nurse Cratchet' at her Finest!
Ratched!
What about "Duet" and "The Visitor" ?
DS9 is the best Star Trek Series!
Great list! Good job on this one Marcus.
Sisko: Best captain.
💖The wire is my favorite episode💖
"How the spice pudding"
Kira’s mother. . .it’s priceless getting to see Dukat operate. . .what a chick crusher.
I'm assuming the pot shots taken at Kai Winn are partially based on Louise Fletcher's role as Nurse Ratched??
DS-9 is the BEST Star Trek series bar none. So much variety in storylines and characters over the whole show. Truly superb
The Bajoran makeup took two hours. Maybe Michelle Forbes didn't want 5am call times or years
Best series ever.
I have to admit, TNG was my #1 for a long time but now im DS9 > Voy > TNG > enterprise
"It's a fake!"
Great choices and great writing.
@7:45 -- "Dictorial?" I think you meant to say "dictatorial."
Second Skin. . .Kira discovers the truth. . .seconds too late.
What backlash?
I saw The Kiss, original run, on TV, in the South.
No riots, no threats.
The last three seasons were great.
Yep- my Fav!
Winn was a right moll!
DS9 was really good. Much Better than TNG to me.
EPIC
Best trek for me!
Ahh yes the projuhdee guy
"exiled... for unpaid taxes." hahahahahahaha I forgot about that bs story he told. lmfao
Taxes? Sometimes I do wonder if they even watch Star Trek.
Rola Ren? 🤦♂️
As much as I liked Ro Laren, DS9 would NOT have been the same without Kira
I went to uni with the guy who wrote the article for this video

"Rejoined" may have saved lives? That's some BS right there.
DS9 is clearly the best Trek 🥰
It might only be an Aussie problem but no station has played DS9 on free to air for years anyone know why ?
The original series was a great success? LOL, they had the hardest time trying to get anyone to give them money for season 2 or 3.

"unpaid taxes"
I mean, making Bareil the Kai… he dies later on from a weird brain issue, so they could have had Winn succeed him anyway. 🤷♂️
I'm not sure if Bareil would've pushed himself as much if Winn hadn't been Kai...
Sorry but I just don't accept that a Cardassian could be "surgically altered" to appear Bajoran or vice reversa, and anyone would be fooled for long.
They had that nonsense in every Star Trek series, including Enterprise
