Captain Sisko once threw a photon grenade and killed 50 Jem'Hadar. Then the grenade exploded.
They named a street on Bajor after Captain Sisko, then had to change it because no one crosses Captain Sisko and lives.
Captain Sisko was once bitten by a Mugato. After 5 days of agonizing pain, the Mugato died.
Romulus wasn't destroyed by a supernova. Captain Sisko jumped out of the orbiting Defiant and punched the ground.
Captain Sisko once destroyed a Dominion warship by pointing at it and saying "Bang".
The Prophets didn't understand linear time until Captain Sisko punched them into next week.

Best ST comment of the year!
ROFL! That's great.
He is the most interesting Captain in Starfleet
I don't always commit War Crimes, but when I do I can live with it.
Raktajino my friends!
Captain Sisko doesn’t do pushups, he irradiates the surface of the planet. Did I do this right?
When I rewatch DS9 I realize how well thought out the show was from beginning to end EVERY character had an arc.
What always stood out to me about Sisko was that he was the first captain to actually have a life outside of being a captain. Kirk was "married to the ship" and never had much interest in family or planet life. Picard had a poorly defined background (at least until his later series) with an estranged brother and a vineyard, and got his fix for Shakespeare and archeology while zooming around space. Sisko had a fully thought out characterization with a son, a deceased wife, and a ship-building job (not to mention: BASEBALL). I think the franchise had matured enough by DS9 to give us a protagonist that was more than "space captain goes on space adventures".
Not entirely accurate. Janeway was engaged to a Human philosopher at the start of Voyager. Starfleet presumed Voyager "lost." 4 yrs later alter Voyager started; her ex-fiancé Mark Johnson got married. Kirk with temporary amnesia did marry a 1st Nations lady on a planet that the Preservers seeded centuries before with Human Native Americans. Her name was Merimee (spelling?). She was stoned to death by other tribal members and miscarried their baby. Kirk also had an affair with scientist Carol Marcus. They had his son Dr. David Marcus. Carol asked Kirk to stay away. Carol wanted their son in her world, not following his father to Starfleet. Kirk clearly regretted to her request.
@FrauIndian I appreciate your attention to detail, but none of that contradicts my earlier point. Janeway's fiance was a footnote to her character, not a foundational aspect (and she was created after Sisko in any case). Kirk's son was added to canon well after his time as a Captain, and his "marriage" (in one of the worst episodes of TOS) only happened after he lost his memory. Left to his own devices, he ALWAYS chose the captain's chair over any other family.

The beard and shaved head look was so iconic because it was the look he had for his famous previous character, Hawk. From my understanding, the producers wanted to make sure that Sisko wasn't going to just be a recycling of Hawk, so they had Brooks grow his hair back out until they were comfortable enough with Sisko being his own unique person.
The look from Hawk suites him well.
@@jojoone1099 What if it penthouses him well?
@@GabePuratekuta
I have no idea what you mean by that.
@@jojoone1099 You said "suite" instead of "suit".
@@GabePuratekuta
Gotcha! I enjoy a pun. 👍🏾
I still hate how season 3 of Picard borrowed so much from DS9 and yet we got no guest stars apart from Worf. DS9 has shaped the series so much, yet still remains in the shadows.
This is what I have been saying! DS9 and Enterprise get NO LOVE from current Trek producers
DS9 has max stealth.
Ships are a character in these series and the Defiant was at the fleet museum.
@@Dmann4Christthe Defiant barely gets a look in how they shot those scenes. They’re more interested in keeping the camera on the Enterprise-A and Voyager.
@@Guiscardr true but at least it was shown still. Not saying I wouldn't liked to see more of it and the NX also.
Far Beyond the Stars is my favorite Star Trek episode in the entire franchise. The entire cast did amazing, but Avery's emotion made that episode what it was. What you left behind? The best 50 F'ing minutes in television history is what you left behind. I like Picard, but I always felt Sisko was "my" Captain.
Ben Sisko and Chuck Norris were once staring at each other before a fight.
They shook hands and went for a beer.
This needs to be on Christmas Day on the chuck Norris calendar
I had no idea about Peter Capaldi's connection. That's insane!
In retrospect it makes more sense for Sisko's appearance to change overtime. If he was bald and bearded from the beginning, it would've subtracted from his character development. Brooks's unease with this appearance shifting into his more confident demeanor later on is reflective of Sisko's character development from being a commander to getting promoted to captain IMO.
I said this too ... 100% agreed
I feel like these videos are becoming more of "10 things you didn't know about the actor who played the character"
Sisko has long been my favorite character in Trek (replacing Kirk). He was a badass, at a time when a badass was needed, and I LOVE his voice. Didn't know he was a musician, guess I'm gonna have to go looking for his music, now. Thanks!
My favorite captain! The Sisko!
I love Captain Sisko! He's my favourite Captain. "Far Beyond the Stars" is the best episode. ❤❤
I'm a In the Pale Moonlight guy myself. But he's by far my favorite.
A golden rule throughout the Alpha Quadrant:

Alpha AND Gamma Quadrants.
Q probably started that rumor.
@@hansvandermeulen5515 Alpha Gamma and beta quadrants. I am sure there's more than a few beta quadrant species it wouldn't mess with him either. I mean look how human manipulated the Romulans. They are alpha and beta as are the Klingons
@@amandamatheny3675 Q started that rumor. Everyone else spread it across the Milky Way.
Sisko, is a better Friend, Officer, Father and Captain than all others in Trek. Avery Brooks is great actor.
Tony Todd would’ve been great as Sisko too. But Sisko/Brooks is my fav captain, and DS9 my co-fav trek along with TOS. The character development in DS9 was incredibly good.
The IDW Star Trek comic series Godshock is really good if you’re a Sisko fan. It guest stars lots of other classic Trek characters. I’m a sucker for anything involving Sisko’s return!! 🖖✌️
It is a pretty good run of Trek comics
To clarify, "Godshock" is the name of the first collected volume (TPB/HC). The series is just titled "Star Trek".
Sisko will always be my Captain. But DS9 is also to this day still my all-time favorite Trek Series.
Both for me as well😊
Same 👍🏽
Agree
I was at a professional conference once, and was wearing a Star Trek shirt, a person working there asked me who my favorite captain was. Without missing a beat, I reply "Sisko." He looks at me for a moment and goes "....interesting choice"
I feel if he hadn't been on shift I'd have been in for an argument.
My favourite Trek series, too - closely followed by Lower Decks!
best Jazz captain there ever was
I truly wonder why Avery has withdrawn from the fandom. Sisko is beloved, but perhaps Avery is not into the kind of mayhem that frequently happens in conventions.
Avery is an intersting guy. I have two theories: either he believes or even knows that there is a language of music running through the entire universe....or he is batsh*t crazy. Either way intersting dude.
For me DS9 still is the best star trek show & Sisko is the best captain ❤❤❤
I would NEVER trade Brooks as Sisko but now I NEED to see Capaldi in a Captain in his style.
DS9 is my all time favorite Trek series. The characters are the most interesting and fleshed out. I loved Sisko, Kira, and Dax from the first episode. I think Roddenberry's edict that everyone gets along was better scrapped for better stories.
One of the most talked about aspects of Sisko's portayal from the start was that he was playing *against* the stereotype of black children being raised without their fathers. That's why he insisted on indicating in "What We Leave Behind" that he'd be back, and why I really hope it's canonized that he returned on the day his second child was born.
They did that in the books, and I *hope* it happens onscreen one day...
I didn't really watch DS9 when it originally aired. At the time I scoffed at its premise of being based on a station. Not only did I recant that when I caught up with the show later, but Sisko became my favorite Star Trek Captain.
Best ad I ever saw!!!
As a father with young kids at the time of DSN, I always loved the relationship between Ben and Jake. It's why I say over and over that worst thing about the ending of DSN was Ben coming back to say good-bye to Cassidy but he didn't say good-bye to Jake. No father would have done that.
I hate “you don’t know about” titles. “You might not know” is less insulting, especially if I know some of the facts already.
You have a low bar for what counts as an insult.
Sisko is clearly a descendant from the Man called Hawk
😅
So much about the character and the actor were like being one in the same. That’s why to me having hair the first few seasons, made more sense, due to Brooks having to be the Character, instead of the character becoming Brooks. But the transition held up, and Sisko was who he was meant to be in the end.
I never understood why Brooks wanted to distance himself from the franchise after DS9 was over, especially since there was an open ended storyline suggesting Sisko’s possible return. (Which btw, is a great plot for a one and only franchise movie of DS9) it would be great to see all of the characters come back for a reunion of sorts, even if we have to do some cgi to get a few of the characters back.
Pretty much everything mentioned in this video is widely known. So there is no surprise that Brooks put everything into his acting. You could tell when he was yelling on screen, that it was as real as it gets. It sometimes makes me wonder how deep do some of these actors get swallowed up by the character they portray.
In the end, Brooks delivered a great performance of his character. He had a faceted personality, which made him real. From his tenderness and protectiveness as a father, to his passion as a husband to both wives, as well as his unswerving command of DS9, and how he dealt with his foes.
There may be many who loved the other shows better, due to their exploration of space, the engaging of new species in each episode, but the story arch, and the character building of DS9 is the best of all the franchise I think. Sisko being one that developed over the full series, until he joined the prophets. Good writing all around.
Bring Sisko back for one more round. Have him be a father and husband again, show us his family and friends. Just one more time.
I want an official Cisco update, and if it's not going to be done by Avery Brooks, I would say that they wouldn't necessarily have to bring Jake back and they could cast Ciroc Lofton as his father. L O L
What does Avery Brooks have to do with a software company, though?
He bleeping PUNCHED Q!!
And that duet with Vic Fontaine....❤
Intersting thst he had a falling out with Siddig, as i always got the impression sisko, didnt like Bashir. Reapected him, would go to bat for him but didnt consider him a friend.
I'd love to see him in STO.
Thanks for this one, Mr. Ferrick.
After Captain James Tiberius Kirk, Capt. Benjamin Lafayette Sisko is my fave Star Trek CO.
In regards to the Emissary's actions in "For the Uniform", I agree: Jim Kirk would understand, perhaps even admire how Ben outwitted Eddington (who had the temerity to phaser the beautiful Major Kira as well!): its very doubtful Jean-Luc would. He's far too much a believer in diplomacy. Like Jim, and Star Trek: New Frontier's Mackenzie Calhoun, the Emissary's the pragmatic sort.
James Earl Jones as the Emissary would've been a great alternative; imagine him telling Kai Winn, "I find your lack of faith disturbing..."
IDW's current main Star Trek title is set 3 years after What You Leave Behind and has Capt. Sisko sent back by the Prophets. With Picard's backing he commands the USS Theseus NX-1987 with a mixed Trek crew of established characters: Scotty, Data, Tom Paris, Dr. Beverly Crusher, as well as new ones like Ens. Lili Sato, Ens. T'Lir, & Lt. Descheeni.
Too bad its can't be done live action. Its a great series, with the latest issue, #25 having the Emissary meet Capt. James T. Kirk - of the Kelvin Trekverse. 🖖
Has anyone here ever watched the brilliant show Homicide: Life On the Street? It made me realize that Yaphet Kotto might be the only other actor who could pull off Sisko's combination of intensity and tenderness.
Sean, it sounded like your audio track was sped up at least 25%. Much faster and a bit higher pitched than you normally speak.
That said, I've always admired Avery Brooks' work in DS9, but Patrick Stewart is still my favorite ST captain.
I wish i had multiverse cable because I'd love to see how some of these orher actors would have done as Sisko.
James Earl Jones would have been awesome.
Brosnan might have been too damn smooth and suave. Imagine the Bond intro but he's wearing a Starfleet uniform and turns to fire a phaser.
"The names Sisko, Captain Sisko".
" Kira, I need to see you in my private quarters."
"Yes Captain".
"Uh, you as well Dax."
"Mmm, right away Captain".
I was looking for the Delta Flyers episode mentioned in this video, is it anywhere online or is it Patreon only?
Question: "What does God need with a Starship?"
Answer: "He's the Sisko whatever he damn well wants"
Actually I did know. You see I used to pal around with Jake, who told me a lot about his father.
Sisko's kid was a friend of mine.
Sisko was certainly a very different captain to all the others we had experienced in the other series, logical, but volatile, no LCARS panel was safe from his fists of fury, and even Q knew this power was too great even for him... :P
So, my head canon has always been that his early uncomfortableness with the look of Sisko versus his personal style is a HUGE part of what makes the character work. In the beginning, Sisko is SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable. He's a broken man, holding on to his dead wife, harbouring strong resentments and I think Brooks' discomfort with the look helps bring that REALLY into focus in the early seasons. As his look gets closer to what Brooks likes, the character becomes more confident, but the plots completely mirror that as well IMO.
Whether it was intentional or not, forcing Brooks to play the character as a look he was personally uncomfortable with really helped define his early character for me, because at the beginning of the show, Sisko is VERY much "not himself" ... that's reflected in Brooks' discomfort I think because Brooks also "isn't himself" in the role. So, for me, it wouldn't work nearly as well if had the iconic look from the start ...
I'll add that the Brooks/Darren version of The Best is Yet to Come isn't just a "good version for a TV show" ... it's an iconic version of the tune, IMO, that ranks musically with any other ...
Between season, he made a Spencer reunion movie too
EVERY iteration of Trek has movies, follow-ups, and additional stories- except any of the series with Black leads. Current producers of Trek have no respect for the character of Sisko or the stories of DS9. We'll see how it goes with Disco and Decks.
I was disappointed that the video glossed over Sisko's actions in "For the Uniform".
A Sisko list!
5:40 I can just imagine an ambulance rolling up to the local ER and wheeling Gul Dukat over to the triage desk. Attention Bajoran workers...
Lower Decks confirmed that Sisko is still chilling with the Prophets in the wormhole.
that can very easily be amended. He told Cassidy he didn't know when he was going to be back. He even said it might be yesterday. Remember the profits are timeless, so there's no telling when he would show up again. They might even send him hundreds of years into the past or thousands of years into the future. There's just no way to know.
He also could've popped out and visited his son and wife for a week and gone back in. Maybe he can do so by way of the orbs or something?
I knew that Sisko was an associate of Section 31, helping Data and Geordi, to keep Worf, the greatest poker player ever, from winning another hand after, "The Emissary."
The greatest captain in star trek history.
Fight me!!
Star Trek: Harbinger
One of the rare computer games I gave up because I couldn't figure out how to get where I should be.
i noticed you said “graphic novels” are you talking about the current comic book run?
"...those important SECOND CONTACTS." (my capitalization). Second contacts? Can anyone say 'Cali class? Hey Seán, how about a speculative video on who were the Cerritos equivalent before there was a Lower Decks?...
As sfdebris pointed out reviewing 'Tribunal'- "I didn't invent "The Sisko is a badass meme", it invented itself!"
Fact #11 - His first Second in Command was Ebert.
Janeway should have shared the hairstyle of Picard and Sisko.
Do you know this is a video about sisko but after the 2024 election the more I want to live in Star Trek no hunger everyone has a roof over their head and everyone is truly equal
Wow, new uniform you're using. Since when was it introduced in starfleet?
so they possessed her (likely against her will) got her knocked up by some total rando and then were just like "thanks for that!!" and peaced out??
Pretty much. lol
11:47 Todd was the older Jake Sisko in that one episode.
Thanks. 🖖🏻
I still think DS9 is the best Star Trek Series because of Captain Benjamin Sisko.
Bring back Jake for a Lower Decks movie and/or Legacy!
My favorite meme about Sisko: He had to name his ship “Defiant” because “Ben Sisko’s Mother****ing Pimp Hand” was too long to fit on the side.
That music in the background is really distracting and doesn't fit the episode very well. I'd almost think that Sean was listening to something while he was recording and it's in the episode.
I know it’s not the point of the video, but when you were listing all the names they were considering for DS9 lead, it made me think what about Jeffrey Combs? Not saying it should have been him over Brooks or anything, just more of the general question why was he never cast as a series lead or regular for any Star Trek show? He’s played nine different characters across four different Trek shows, for a total of 40+ episodes over his career… I mean, he clearly loves Star Trek, Star Trek clearly loves him, and the fans love them both, especially when they are together! So, can we please get the man into the main cast of a Star Trek show? Starfleet Academy is on the way, so we could legitimately have Robert Picardo and Jeffrey Combs together on a regular weekly basis… Who says no to that?! 🤯🖖👽
The Sisko is of Bajor
They have newer star trek comic books with cap sisko after deep space 9
I really hoped Avery Brooks returned as Benjamin Sisko, even if is a small cameo.
His mother was not one of the Prophets, she was inhabited by one. I hate it when Behr refers to him as part Prophet because his dna is all human.
Soul parent = Beverly Crusher
But BC did not bestow that intimate REAL physical caring ,like a hug or a kiss on the head ,like Avery Brooks did to Cîroc Lofton . You could see that was the real DEAL in the body language ,like a father would do to his son .That is the big difference between the two being soul parents .
Long overdue list
I wonder. Since Sisko's mommy is a Prophet does that make Benjamin a demigod?
Bald and a goatee --- good look for Sisko.
Of course (incert any actors name) would be interested in returning for a paycheck.
Let's be honest here. The hair and beard were an "uncomfortable white people" move. They just didn't want to ever say it out loud. However, the 90's were huge for black representation and the look was viewed far more positively by the time he was finally able to get it into the show.
Do I need to remind you of the saga of bearded Geordi?
Shawn is a s31 operative feeding us propaganda 😂
Gods, but I'm so glad James Earl Jones didn't go for the role, as strange as that sounds...someone with his voice and Shakespearean style should be a Klingon.
I didn't know he had siblings
❤❤❤
BRAG ALL YOU WANT....BUT DONT GET BETWEEN ME..AND THE BLOODWINE!
The Sisko> beta Canon like discovery
I know he can live with it.
He CAN live with it
He's the reason (combined with that fucking awful first season episode - you know the one I mean) that it took me until lockdown to watch DS9. I get that "it's shakespearian" or something, but I just absolutely hate his acting. It's awful.
🖖🖖🖖😏😊🖖🖖🖖🍁
This was the biggest soap opera ever. All of it awful. Sorry but it’s true. Shit tv at its finest. It insulted Star Trek honestly
11) He stole my bike.
Daddy❤
I never liked Sisko. It was a background character fire me. Everyone including Jake was a better developed than Sisko.
If he would be missing from 90% of the episodes I wouldn't even noticed.
Um. Okey dokey then. Wow.
