I hope you don't mind but I thought I'd add another point which might resonate with you. It was alluded to several times in this interview by Jes but also has been brought up in Lauren's other videos which is why I find Lauren's (and John and "good" Lori) work relatively unique and a special contribution to the true crime community.
I think that, as a science and philosophy educator, who has spent a decade trying to pass on some of the things that we can say about human nature, our behavior and psychology, that part of the fascination that humanity has with crime, (especially the most egregious) is trying to understand what it says about all of us, about humanity.
We far too often prefer to vilify and otherize the most violent criminals in an effort to distance ourselves from them. I think it so confuses us that we need to believe and treat these people as if they're not even human at all. We prefer to believe they are something different from us. After all, no moral and functional human being could ever do these things to another, right? Clearly, this view, while understandable, is not only wrong but probably immoral as well.
      They are very much human.
I think that probably scares us the most because somewhere in the darkest cavities of our conscious and unconscious mind, we have an inkling, a sort of uncomfortable twitch that forces us to wonder if we too could ever do such a thing. I am human and they are human yet these people do the most unthinkable (and seemingly inhuman) of things. It can't possibly be true that we are the same sort of animal. They must be a different sort of animal, rather a monster.
What Jes painfully expresses in this interview is the reality that Lori is not all bad. She was not all bad. She had not always been all bad, however you wish to qualify it. She clearly has good in her, likely to this day. Jes' poignant testimony really brings this home when she discusses not only Lori's good qualities but also those of Melanie.
It's just not simple enough to try to understand these people in a nuanced fashion; to accept that they are not monsters. Dysfunctional? Damaged? Possibly genetically inclined? Brainwashed? Greedy? Poor judgment? Desperate? All of these things and many more not listed. But we always prefer simple answers to complex ones, so monsters they must remain for most of us. That protects us as well. That simple answer is reassuring. It provides us with security in the belief that we are not monsters and could never become one.
While some might take issue with this position presuming it to mean it is either a sort of denial of "evil" or a show of excessive and weak compassion, I think that position is horribly misinformed about the sort of animal that we are.
Trying to better understand extreme and harmful human behavior should be the objective, not simply to identify "good" and "bad" humans. Empathy and compassion are also a central part of what it is to be an evolved social animal. And it is a required quality for those who are curious and wish to learn.
And none of that excludes the realism that some people simply need to be removed from society to the extent that we have every good reason to believe they are harmful not only to others but to themselves as well.
If the empirical, scientific evidence is present to show that people can be rehabilitated, we should attempt to do so. And if the empirical evidence of likely recidivism is present, we must not make the mistake of liberating them from secure environments.
So thank you Lauren, to you and your husband, for both also exemplifying this crucial part of the puzzle; a sensitivity, curiousity and empathy to try to educate others and help us all better understand how we tick. That seems part of the right pathway, in addition to analyzing the cold facts, in order to ultimately find ways to reduce the likelihood that events like this continue to replicate.

I did hear Melanie Gibb say in her interview with Nate Eaton the Lori asked her to go to Brandon’s home and see if he was there… There was no one there. The neighbours came out and she asked about Brandon. Neighbour told her he left after the murder attempt. Melanie G said that was the first she had heard about the shooting. I find Melanie to be a weak minded person who was manipulated and used by Lori… stupid yes but I don’t reckon she was actually involved in the murder side of it all. Just the feeling I got from listening to a lot of her interviews. But Melanie P is up to her neck in all the murder side and definitely needs to be held accountable.

My first questions would be...How does Brandon's kids are living with this readaptation of being with their mother again? Are they feeling secured and love from their mother now? How was the transition for them?
You see I'm a preschool and early childhood educator so this is my concern, their all around developpement emotionally and psychologically in this very difficult situation where they might of felt some loving and caring rejection from their mother.
That must of have affected their reunions at one point, mostly from the older ones.
This is just still so painful to think she did something like this to them...they might also be or revolted or scared to lose her again if they are not perfect with her....I'm trying to figure what can pass through their little head...from a kid's logic. It would not surprise me a bit if Alex wasn’t responsible for the death of Melanie Ps mother. It was up to him to keep an eye on her when her parents went off on vacation. I think there was insurance money there to be had as well.

That's exactly what I think, Alex, under Lori's direction. I wonder who financially benefited by her death....
