I'm in Canada and refuse to use canola oil for any reason. I also avoid any foods that use the oil such as salad dressings. When you try and tell folks up here that canola is dangerous, they get pretty defensive. The government has been subsidizing canola growers for years and in Alberta a lot of food crops have been replaced by canola which is very bad for the soil.

Once again, I had bad hayfever like symptoms while the canola was in the paddocks. Once it was all harvested, the symptoms suddenly disappeared. Overnight. I've never had hayfever as such, but around wheat growing season for the past 15-16 years I get hit with these symptoms. They started after I got some spray drift from a crop duster plane that was spraying across the road at the time. I had a really cool job driving across Canada. There were and probably still are places where it grows all the way to the horizon on both sides of the road. It's sort of a pretty plant. I was talking to a farmer whose canola field was accidentally flooded with crude oil. The oil company paid him full price for his crop and the full real estate value of his land, which he was allowed to keep. They also attempted to clean it up. The next year he decided to plant canola on the same land. To his surprise it grew almost twice the yield per acre as the rest of his farm.

This is a blanket statement. Canola oils are processed and refined. But seed oils have been used since probably the beginning of time. It’s what processes is used. Seeds like sunflower, or nuts like peanuts and coconuts if they are cold pressed and not processed with chemicals still retain their oleics. So to says a blanket statement seed oils are not good is rather incorrect. What it comes down to is the method of processing.

Prior to agriculture about 12,000 to 6,000 to say 3000 years or more recently depending on which part of the planet people lived in we didn't have high amounts of seeds in our diets. Then in about 1890 or so we came up with cotton seed oil as a food product. Then in 1980 about we started demonize tallow and animal fat and the human consumption of seed oils greatly increased. I grew up in the 60's and we had very few fat kids in school.
So with agriculture the amount of omega-6 oil in diet went up. Then in 1890 it went up a lot. Then in the 1980's it went up a hell of a lot.

When will Americans seek justice upon the Authorities involved within our own FDA whom have dubbed Canola oil safe & provided false, mis-leading labeling & encoiraged food companies to use canola oil in their products?
Health food in America is too often too expensive to buy, when I can find it on retail store shelves like Wal-mart, Kroger's, Food Lion, & Publix.
[ With Publix being the only retailer who seems to actually care somewhat about human health. ]

I used canola oil a couple of decades ago, until I discovered that it gets rancid in a very short time.
Then I switched to olive oil, vegetable oil, and coconut oil when coconut oil was still considered bad for you.
You could get a 2 1/2 gallon tin of coconut oil for $25 back then at Smart & Final.

Reasons why I only use ghee, olive oil and beef tallow. Every other oil is not fit for humans and is not properly digestible for our gastric system. Also eating butter or olive oil will result in weight loss as the body is able to process it properly.

It's far better than seed oils but I don't use it- prefer butter and tallow for my fats/oils. I wouldn't heat olive oil, but if you want something to put on your salad (haha) a truly high quality EVOO that's organic works better than butter. For the record, I still don't eat salad.
