3-5 years of increasing numbers of EVs on the market will see older EVs with smaller degrading batteries and decreasing range walking themselves to horrific resale values.
Add in the Solid State Battery packs coming from the Japanese and this current generation of batteries don't add up.

I used to work for Kia and left them just after the launch of the EV6. People need to realise that Kia are now a premium brand. They are not the Brand they were years ago. I guarantee that anyone goes to drive one will be impressed by the build quality and finish. They are really that good. Add the the mix the 7 years manufacturers warranty and without doubt they are arguably one of the best brands on the road today. Great video Matt

Kia make good, comfortable well-built cars that have very good fit-and-finish - but they are not a "premium brand".
They may have a much more premium *build* than a Ford/equivalent category car - but that is different to brand.
Anyone in the market for a 76K SUV is, I think, going to skip this entirely and look at an alternative German offering. Right or wrong? That's the buyer's prerogative - and it's what makes the biggest difference in deciding if something is a premium brand or not.

Opinions vary. Never been a badge snob. I can't figure out why anyone would buy a low numbered Audi BMW or Merc. Quite frankly, they are boring, and the build quality and level of specifications are poor. In the not so long distant past, the German badges had it hands down . But like many things, those days are long gone, and there's badges now offering equal if not better build quality and much more bang for your buck. I've been in the motor trade for coming on 4 decades now and we don't have a problem now when we come up against the zee Germans. It's an easy deal .

Long ago, when I was 15 years old in 1967, my family rented a caravan on summer holiday about 300 yards on the other side of Eilean Donan. All week it rained, and rained, and rained, and rained. Then it paused momentarily. And then it rained some lots more. I remember feeling so relieved to get home to Galloway, with the winds, and horizontal trees. And needing a seven-seater in the first place reveals questionable life choices. Discuss.

£76K for the car, 4 x 21" tyres is probably £1000 per corner and at 2.5 tonnes you'll likely be changing those often. Also, the amount of open house windows I've seen with power leads plugged into the EV is concerning. It's currently Winter, so I'm assuming the central heating is on with a house window open so the occupant can charge the EV outside. This doesn't sound very green to me. As a regular man on the street, there is no compelling reason for me to even think about buying an EV right now. They're just beyond my means and nowhere near as practical as what I've got. Is this just an enormous scam or am I genuinely missing the point?

Most owners of an EV with access to off street parking would use a car charger, which is affordable to install. You also get the benefit of low tariff charging at night, saving you money and minimising the burden on the grid.

Interesting video. Especially the range figures. I can speak from experience as I drive a 23 reg Toyota proace electric van every day for work (not my own) and that only gets 172 "indicated" miles from a full charge. In reality though since the cold snap came, it's realistically getting less than 100 before needing charging again. That is with the heater set to 18° and slowest blower speed. Luckily I rarely travel more than 100 miles in a day and only carry light gear in the back and don't usually have a passenger. Not the way forward for commercial vehicles that have to carry weight and do long distances until they perfect the traction battery.

Back in the day when car's were 1st invented they were expensive, noisy, dirty, uncomfortable, poor brakes, poor handling, hardly any petrol stations, hardly any garages to get them fixed - and worst of all... no cup holders! For most people a horse and cart made more sense but we stuck with them and they got cheaper, better and the infrastructure arrived... same will happen with EV's.

In the 90s and maybe 2000s, Kia was a cheap budget brand.....but since the 2010s, they've totally changed their target market. Kia is not budget anymore. Their prices reflect that. We should pay more attention to what kind of quality brands are putting out these days, 2023, rather than what we first thought about them in 1993.

Company car owners have had their share for tax reasons, some wealthy private owners have bought them but they aren't affordable or desirable for the average new car buyer. The front of the Kia looks hopeless, yes it's quiet but so is my diesel Jaguar, and £76k is ridiculous. It might well be that it would be great if everyone owned one but purchasers have to WANT to and it's not an attractive option.

Great-looking vehicles but priced far out of Middle-class family budgets. And honestly, it's a KIA. Those who can actually afford these KIA vehicles, are not even going to consider a KIA EV.
