This guy is relaxing to listen to, no messing about, no stupid talk, no showing off, and some great information.
Liverpool UK
Begorrah !!! I am sure that he will be made up to hear that from a Scouser .
@@anthonydowling3356
I also have some wheel trims to sell him.
Yes I agree, I am from Australia and watch his reviews all the time. He does a good job with his reviews he does not try to be funny or entertain you like a lot of the other car reviewers I have seen like the yanks.
Well said. I agree. Zero crap.
I liked the Spanish video where said just wants to park a car to stop other people parking. Brilliant!
With the odd partridge line thrown in
You're not the car dealer we deserve, but the dealer we need!
If only every one was like you!
nothing like the warm embrace of a classic Lexus to mother you all the way home. Been enjoying the varied content!
Can't beat a Lexus tbh
Alright Clarkson
My family had a used 2006 RX330 (it was a Japan import so its a Toyota Harrier 3.3). It was 3 years old when we picked it up. It was so reliable and comfortable we ended up keepinh it for another 10 years. Toyota/Lexus of that era really proved that cars can be durable and luxurious at the same time.
Super job, Matt. It looks really great now. £5k sounds like a bargain for a car that will definitely run for yonks. Nice one.
Yonks.......haven't heard that word for too long!
Think it should be in everyone's vocabulary from now on 👍👍
You mean you haven't heard that word for..."yonks" @@freddythefrog70? 😄
I'm so jealous of the car prices in the UK. Over here it would easily be 8000€ in the 'before massively overspent' -condition. Only the most premium car dealerships and proper enthusiasts care about the condition of the paint and wheels. It's a shame.
A really great find. I like the RX, even though it looks like an old bread loaf.
Where is here mate?
Same here like I bet with its low mileage and world-class dependability. This thing would go for at least 10+ thousand here in the US. .
What country’s
Probably here in Ireland where our stealerships charge a small fortune for awful tat, that probably hasn’t been washed, valeted, serviced and you’re made to feel “privileged” that they take your money. I’m keeping my 13 year old car going because I refuse to pay a lot of money for junk.
@@shane6115 USA for me
They are just so solid. 20 years and still immaculate. Great job by all involved. 👍
Toyota. Can't be beat.
You always prepare cars to such a high standard. What a fantastic looking RX! Hopefully whoever buys it can actually afford to maintain it. Great video, as always.
I hope so too! Lexus owners are generally sensible people
This car has travelled through Switzerland and Italy, since it has swiss motorway stickers on the windshield and a Telepass box (that's the italian electronic toll system).
Matt, I had one of these 2000 reg, ran it for years, did 186,000 miles of no bother motoring but I did service it regularly, still miss it, had a sensor go that was going to cost £700 to replace, advertised it on ebay and couldnt believe how many wanted it for twice as much as the repair, used the money to buy a newer RX,
Another excellent video Matt as always! I've had a Lexus CT200h for the last 4 years and plan to keep it for a minimum of 10yrs. So reliable and comfortable. Had VAG group vehicles before and the whole Lexus experience beats the German brands hands down! Well done Matt on another great vehicle turnaround and on keeping another motor on the road!👍🏼
I thought I read my own comment 😂
These are some of the most common Lexus vehicles in the United States and since they are practically indestructible the cockroaches that survive the apocalypse will probably be driving them around!
Great vid as usual. Heathrow is expensive, cost everyone £5 just to drop off, so cabs have to pass it on. There are so many buses from T5 to Staines and only cost £2. Then a Uber would of only been £5.
Next time I may do the same and take flight to Manchester instead of train, like I normally do
Uber actually pay the £5 drop off fee my dad does Uber and he pays it then Uber refund him for it after about 2 3 hours. But they take far too much of the ride price for themselves he says a lot of journeys he gets £11 but the passenger was paying £24
Hi Matt,
Glad your man flu has cleared and pleased that you have restored life to this rare car through quality servicing. According to the car number plates I suspect one of the reasons why the previous owner wanted rid of this car with low mileage in the greater London area was that it’s non ULEZ compliant. Still profit in the car instead of the £2000 scrappage scheme. Keep up the excellent work 😊
I share your enthusiasm for older high end cars and love your drive to keep them on the road. 👌
Glad you like them!
These might be rare in the UK but here in Australia there are currently 50 RX300s for sale. Models range from 1999 to 2022. They hold their value quite well.
Australia appreciates a great car!
The Rx300’s are grey-import Harriers. Rx 330 was the first gen official import.
in what country?@@paulsz6194
@@CarsofGlasgow Even crazier, Lexus Australia sells the same amount of cars as Lexus UK (~15K new vehicles in 2023). 2.5x times the amount of vehicles per capita. UK is sleeping on great cars.
@@dwindeyer I never knew that
Firstly- what a great channel. I have been following you since the early days of the channel Congratulations on your continued success. I have had a 02 MK 1 rx300 for the last 10 years. They are fantastically reliable and very over engineered. I have been all over Europe in mine, towed cars, boats and all sorts of trailers with it. It is now at 200k miles and still going strong. Well done changing the transmission fluid and filter- Its an easy enough thing to change on the rx300 and a common fault on them if not changed every 60k miles. The only thing you didnt mention was a set of spark plugs. It is quite hard to change the rear 3 plugs and would have been worth it with a full service. Anyway - best of luck with it - I' m sure you will find a buyer for it no problem.
Always trust Matt not to miss anything out! At 11:40 he mentioned new spark plugs. Great to hear yours is on 200k and going strong.
I had a Mk2 RX 300 and the rear quarter window trim broke off and the sunroof leaked but that was about it.
Well done to the editing team... different format to the usual Matt 👍💯
I’m always pleased when I see a new video appear. I never tire of the format.
Lexi!? “Nice action”! As Alan Partridge would say! 😁👍🏻
“Man flu” is MUCH more severe than a cold!
P.S. I kick myself every day that I was stupid enough to sell my black, 2003 GS 430 Navigator 😩
We got so many of them here in Nigeria. I drove one for a year, belonged to an aunt. Smooth and quiet, with just enough power when you need it. The only thing i disliked was the driver seating position. There's no armrest so you have to keep both hands on the wheel all the time which can be really stressful for me on long journeys. I compromised by keeping my right hand on the gear lever sometimes (Left hand drive and im lefthanded). Other than that it was a champ. Her's got about 230k miles as at 2017 when i used it. She still owns the car. You say 10years, man as long as there's still aftermarket parts, that thing can go another 30 years if properly maintained.
I've watched dozens of your videos after researching getting a new old car, and they are all spot on. Many thanks
My boss had the same gen RX300 or RX350 probably since new and up until a year ago, 15 years at least. It's been bulletproof. Not entirely without things needing replacement over 150k+ miles (I think it's around 200k now), but overall very dependable. The biggest job that I remember is replacing pneumatic suspension with regular springs and shocks, since the pneumo is way too expensive to fix.
What I like about his videos is that he doesn't act loud and hyperactive. He just gets straight into the video without waffling.
I always enjoy your videos (as an ex motor trade bod - many moons ago) would love it if you did a tongue in cheek review "I bought an expensive...." showing buyers how not to pay over the odds perhaps? Keep up the good work! Best, Simon
After moving from Chicago to Manchester, it is insane to me how comparatively dirt-cheap used cars are here, and how much better care people seem to take of them in terms of general maintenance. Maybe because it's such a small country and people do far fewer miles, the MOT that cars need to pass, and the lack of as robust of a second-hand market due to the right-hand drive; or a combination of everything.
Lexus may not make the prettiest cars on the road but my goodness, they're reliable and bulletproof...if looked after of course.
I got a 1999 Lexus 300gs. Still looking good infact it's immaculate. Coming upto 187 thousand miles smoke emissions probe was 0.02. What an engine it's nothing short of being one of the best cars ever made. The car is 24 years old I can afford a new Merc or B.M.W. or another Lexus but why. I see many prestige cars costing thousands of pounds at the side of the road broken down. I think to myself boy I'm dead lucky it's never happened to me. I also got a Bentley and an XJ8. I still love driving the Lexus prefer it over the other two.
I live in Indonesia and still see these drive around now and then. Really great job on this one, a steal to get such low mileage example for this price.
Matt, I like the way you are adding new elements to your channel. Including road trips. Im sure you have some interesting content for future.
I have this car, an 02 reg RX300 in platinum ice with just shy of 100k on the clock. It still drives like new, lovely cars.
That thing that is making you ill is the same as I had, sweating, shivers, delirium, headache, lasted 3 days. Ibuprofen and paracetamol are your friend here. You’ll feel exhausted for the next two weeks.
Great vid as ever.
Waiting for the roadtrip video, I really enjoyed the one with the old Volvo as well! 😁
Absolutely love your older RR. Surprisingly I personally prefer that body style to the newer ones. Not sure what year your’s is but I had an awesome 2011 and loved it. That was my first RR and I’ve bought three since. Your finished work on the RX looks great.
Mine is a 2002
@@HighPeakAutosthe rangie you were in for this vid is 2002?
@@clintonparker4141seems it the vogue started from 2002.
@@clintonparker4141 yeah it’s very old now
@@HighPeakAutos it looks mint, I did email it would be great to see a vid of your collection, as from what I can tell you have 4/5 motors not including the Lexus & the Spain car!
In my humble opinion the best watch on RUclips these videos by Matt. It looks an easy thing to do professionally, talk about cars whilst filming but clearly looking at some other channels it’s not!
Keep up the good work Matt, your work is appreciated….
Thanks. That’s very kind
In Ireland - large engines (2.5 +) are road taxed to infinity - €1800 for 3l older Lexus - makes these excellent cars unaffordable
That’s a rip off
@@HighPeakAutos That's the government for you. Screw the 'sheeple'.
Prices in Ireland are through the roof for everything, from a pint of Guinness to a decent house to live in, it's mad. Dublin is unaffordable and feral thugs roam the city centre targeting tourists and kick the sh1t out of them. Police do sweet fa about it other than moan that they don't get enough overtime, probably need it to pay their road tax.😂
My 2014 2.5 Lexus is300h is only €190 to tax Ireland, your right fella our old tax system kills these old cars, it’s all about the environment.
Need to change out the horse's hoof who thinks he is charge of Ireland....
Yes-only option get a H version to save on RoadTax (doesn’t make any sense) - the RX non hybrid are appallingly expensive to tax
You really do amazing videos Matt. Another great car saved. Expensive? Yes, but it's so worth it. That Lexus will go on for ages if it's serviced properly every year. I love watching your videos. Keep them coming. Great tips when you buy the cars too.
You should do a Partridge-ism in every video. Only a few seconds in and bam, there we are. Also, my Dad had one of these a few years ago on a 52 plate, was LPG converted with cream leather and two tone grey on the outside, lovely car.
Loving all this content coming from you from your different platforms, keep it up 👍🏾
Thank you! Will do!
Looking forward to that road-trip to Spain. And the review of that Civic you were offered. (It's a Civic, we all know they sell easily.) Also glad to see you've recovered from that mystery illness, Matt.
Hi Matt from sunny skiathos, one more saved from being scrap, enjoy your road trip to Spain, and good luck with the sale. Cheers Phil
My wife had a gen 2 and it was amazing. Lovely to see a gen 1 looking so good well done 👍
They’re great cars
Jimmy The Magician should have a RUclips channel!
And he should double his prices!
Driven many hundreds of these 20 years ago along with every other Lexus of that era and I always liked the RX at the time over everything else. I should get one really they are bulletproof bargains.
Love the Lexus, with 59.000 miles its going to run forever!
Great video and work as always Matt! :D
Thanks! 👍 I think you’re right. Just need to find a buyer who will take care of it
Ho made this video? Is it you or your brother?😉 really good quality mixed and put together this different types of videos! Nice job
Thanks
Got my first RX in 1999 ...24 years later onto RX #7 and don't expect to change. Thankfully the exterior styling has been refreshed 3 or 4 times but the reliability has always been the best
The toll road is a damn sight better than driving through Spaghetti junction. The real rip off is the Mersey Gateway when the old Runcorn bridge was free. That Lexus looks great
Great video Matt, next time I visit London, I think I will choose to fly too, instead of using the train, not only for convenience, but because I’m an aviation geek, so will jump at any chance to fly, even when not visiting my Aunty in Spain.
The Lexus looks to be in fairly good condition for its age 😊.
Ah very good. It’s a nice flight because you never get up that high so you get good views the whole way
I can't believe the prices over there. For $1350 here in the states that would get you a rusted, and ragged out 200k miles piece of work. It looks great! I love those old Lexus vehicles.
Not many people want cars like this here which I just find weird. Apart from higher fuel costs, it’s a really good car
Love the way that you plan to spread your germs in order to rescue a car
Loving the random videos Matt. Such is life. 🙂
Great to have met you over the Bank Holiday. I'd be all over this once I've sold my 47k 2007 Grand Vitara.
Hi Matt, you said something very interesting in your video......will be a nice car if maintained! It never fails to amaze me how many owners let their vehicles fall apart and then moan at the next MOT visit. Great video by the way and all the best mate
I feel really unwell and have likely caught something off someone on a train who was really selfish and inconsiderate and passed it onto me. I know what I will do, I will go one better than that and go get on a plane to be even more selfish and pass it onto even more people who are trapped in seats around me. Love your videos and appreciate your content, but surely if Covid taught us anything it is to not spread it around.
I have just traded a lexus Sc430. An 03 model like the RX and it drove like a dream.
I grew up with a 2002 that I learned how to drive on, when my family finally traded it with 347k miles and it lived a hard life with little maintenance other than oil changes. Only had 2 timing belts and one set of plugs. We only traded it because it failed safety inspection for rust.
Road Trip! Road Trip! ....Great turn around on the RX...certainly worth £5K, as it will bring the next owner many reliable years of service if maintained properly. It’s just missing Bluetooth connectivity , something a prudent new owner could install.
If you do fly down to Heathrow again, would recommend getting an Uber or FreeNow from Heathrow. Windsor Cars if you want someone to be waiting for you. Far cheaper than the rip off Black Cabs.
Get prepared to do that journey more often Matt if you want some bargain stock - got to think that ULEZ will be prompting a lot of folks round there to get rid of a petrol of that age (or a much newer diesel but a ‘15 plate car is an easier sell)
Maybe not. There's a lot of misinformation about ULEZ. My 2004 Toyota car and 2002 BMW bike are both exempt even though they pre-date the implementation of the relevant Euro rates. If your vehicle met the standard voluntarily, prior to them being mandatory, you're exempt.
yep, my 04 Celica passes.
@@jonford6119
I have rarely used a cab out of Heathrow having been bitten once. Problem seemed to be the proximity to M25 so they set a black cab fixed rate to anywhere inside or a different and minimum rate to anywhere outside. On a good day it takes me 12 to 15 mins to cover the short run to my home but I could have gone to Essex for the same price !
I love my 05 3000 HC, 132,000 miles, wheels refurbished & £1500.00 spent on a full service, l thought it went well before the service but since it was really well looked after by my garage it’s like a brand new vehicle, it goes like it’s on steroids, nobody is going to come between me & my Lexus
Love it love it love it! What a beautiful turnaround 👍🏻 would I be right in saying in five years that car will be classed as ‘vintage’? So clean and so cool 👏🏻👍🏻
I have always loved a Lexus, I had a Soarer ( grey import) again nothing wrong with it think they built there cars to last
I drove my old Jag down to Southern Spain this summer. The fuel tank tried to fall out on the motorway near Seville and the AC packed up on the way back at Bordeaux.
Not too bad then.
Got a low mileage Lexus spent some money servicing and tidying it up looks good
Black cabs are expensive from Heathrow because operating from there is expensive. Cabbies pay extra to get a card to operate from there and are then charged about £7 to join the rank.
They may also be waiting 2-3 hours for a fare on the basis that most trips will earn them £50+. So options are hunt around London for 2-3 hours doing a few £10-20 trips or wait 3 hours and do a £50-100 run into central London.
I love this older model RX much more then the newer hybrids, a solid car, less crap to go wrong and very desirable in my eyes, your price sounds decent for a car with so much life left in it. Its a winner.
Manchester to London £80, Heathrow to Staine's £40, Huhhhhhhh.
yet another spot on video with plenty of information from matt
Glad you think so!
Good review. Hey, Matt, you need a dash of whiskey in your tea to get rid of the cold. BTW £40, for an eight minute taxi🚖 ride? Welcome to the big smoke.
Love a Lexus. They are just beautiful.
Mint condition that car would be a good buy , well spotted. Look forward to the road trip adventure ,
Great vid Matt keep the authenticity in what you do it’s what separates you from others
That is an excellent find. I think that the Toyota/Lexus is a great reliable used buy. You have spent every penny in the right places, and I look forward to the next videos
We bought a pristine low mileage one from Lexus many years ago; nothing went wrong (apart from a battery) but it was so dull and depressing it sapped the very soul from me and I changed it for a Volvo estate which seemed fun, youthful and fresh in comparison.
Great vlog Matt, plus another top job turning the Lexus into an almost new car, I wish I lived closer to you as all your cars seem to be loved by you.
Lovely Job on that .....I bought one for our Lass.....but went for the 2007 350 after some reserrch....to me the best model...as no CVT....no cambelt....and no air suspension....Engine has roller rockers and hydraulic tappets...one of the worlds best engines....only downside on her car.....Caramac Bar Dash board colour looks 1970s.
Another great video. Enjoyed seeing a slight variation on the normal format.
I’m pleased to hear the Panda is going to be rescued. I have been worrying about that one!
Keep up the good work!
These kinds of days always hit you with the worst colds or sickness. I started a new job back in march and got extremely sick for a whole months after working for 2 days. I remember doing the groceries once while I could barely walk and couldnt eat or drink anything, I felt like I was dying. Turned out I had covid and a throat infection and because of the antibiotics I got an inflammated liver :D
I used to own a Lexus CT200h. It was not the most exciting car in the world, but I never realised I'd miss it as much as I do.
I recognise Staines Halfords car park anywhere!
Is there a road trip video? Love how that turned out!
In the States, that Lexus would bring close to 10 grand……….seriously! Your people do such excellent work.
I am guessing that there are a lot of cars like this for sale now within the M25 due to the ULEZ
Got a customer at work who bought a Hybrid version of one of these and when he showed up in it and asked us to check it over we told him to take it back to seller and get his money back. Thing was from Scotland and the underside looked like it had been kept in sea all its life..... was rotten!!! He's spent more money trying to keep the thing going and at its last MOT we told to get rid ASAP!!!! Was not a nice a example. Lower arms were to fit as well, engine and gearbox sit on the subframe with only little supports on the body so that was sh*t to sort out as well.
Had this exact same model, bought it with 66000 miles, sold it four years later with 129000 miles, gave absolutely no bother, except one electric window switch, was serviced regularly, only problem, fuel consumption, 10-12 mpg around town, 25 on a run and high road tax bracket
Love that you care for cars so much. Long live the lexus!!
I do! It’s not always great for business but I like to save everything
@@HighPeakAutos we are roughly the same age and I can see your taste in cars a mile off!!! Keep going strong! 💪
Nice to see you using the local Staines Halford...
Your show gets more like Top Gear with planes and cars and road trips with your bro playing tricks on you. Maybe 'High Gear' would would be a good offshoot name Matt. 😎
Maybe!
Your videos are coming in thick and fast Matt 👍This Lexus looks fabulous now and I’m wondering if it’s going to end up as your Spanish runaround. Guess the only downside is it doesn’t even have a sun roof. If and when you move it on it would be good to know what price you got for it.
Cheers 😁

Sounds like you had that illness everyone panicked about for about 2 years which then vanished ;-) good lad for continuing to work.
Another great video, love these RX300’s. We nearly bought one as a family car but the fuel consumption put my Mrs off, not me though, I wanted it. Love the build quality, reliability and the feeling it wants to look after you, obviously as long as you look after it. Great turnaround Matt. P.s That taxi was a right pi## take.
You can get a newer high MPG car but you won't save any money - it'll either be more expensive to buy or you'll have higher maintenance costs - either way, it's a false economy, never mind the depreciation.... I've BTDT and it was a mistake.
Bleak in the peak 😮 never a dull moment with you matt 😂
I do like to be busy
The old Lex was in the Switzerland twice in its lifetime (05:37)
Really lucky to book BA down to London for £80. Fares usually much higher depending on demand. If you were to take a similar early flight on September 4 the lowest price is £245 one-way. If you were to take the 0850 hrs flight the only seats still available are in business class at £628 one-way ! (Prices checked today at 1910 hrs)
So I checked flights today going on 8/9 £67.98. Man to Heathrow.

Great Video Matt.
I had the same SUV in Portland Oregon, bought new in late 2002 and sold it in 2009 with 72k miles on the Clock. Had it Service every 10k by Lexus plus and Oil change every 5k at a Quick Lube. Apart from the servicing my only other expenses were change gear box Oil and coolant and 4 tires at 50k and a battery.
Start Ist time every time. Brilliant in all weather including snow and off the road.
