      There’s no reason why a police officer couldn’t pull you over for distracted driving if they observe you paying more attention to the screen in the car than the road… same as a mobile phone.
      Using your mobile phone in a cradle also isn’t illegal just like using a built in touch screen. But if an officer judges you’re using it too much and distracted then you can get fined and points.

    I went from a v8 range rover L322 to a tesla Y AWD 6 months ago. I ordered it on my phone whilst in the back of a recovery wagon that was taking the range rover for new turbos after it broke down. You might actually remember I contacted you to see if you wanted to buy the rangey. Anyway, I got used to the Tesla pretty quickly. £7 to charge overnight, 2 % BIK. All the stuff you can't figure out in this video, you get used to in about half a day. Its got voice control, so press the button and say "divers heated seat on". Hardly rocket science. Also unlike the range rover I know it'll work every morning. The biggest downside to it is the lack of adjustable headrests. That's it. The rest of it just works. Oh and you should have got the long range AWD, it's a different car entirely than the RWD, leagues ahead in how it goes and drives. It also tows my boat even better than the RR did, the 100% torque from any RPM is fantastic for towing.

    As of April 2025 all EV's will pay road tax of £190.00. If the vehicle costs over £40k you will also have to pay the expensive vehicle supplement. Coupling this with chewing through tyres, the high servicing costs, and massive depreciation, I'd say you need a new accountant.

And as long as he isn’t spending £500 a month on servicing (which is the amount he said he spends on fuel for his Range Rover) then the running costs will be much, much, much less. I leased mine on a great deal inc a free home charger and the cost of the lease has beaten the depreciation over 3 years. BIK is peanuts on my self assessment. So we are win win. It is also a brilliant car and with the supercharger network works really well. Good luck!

      Good for you, just dont be involved in an accident as the Fire Brigade hate them. Also be aware that even a minor collision will result in the car being written off due to the high voltage battery being potentially damaged. I think pretty soon the insurance required in EVs will sky rocket.

    • @michaelr4573
      @michaelr4573 8 месяцев назад +1

      50% VAT reduction is claimable on any new car used for a mix of business and personal use, irrespective of engine type. As you state the main benefit is that company car employee tax is charged at 2% BIK for any EV, whilst say a 1.6 diesel is charged at often 32% BIK. Combined with alternative salary sacrifice schemes that are exlusively for EVs only, the rest of the UK is massively subsidising these EVs by billions of pounds each year based upon flimsy assumptions about sustainability and overall emissions.

Has all the space, performance and we're saving monthly from what we spent on our diesel Kuga. You get used to the screen really quickly, but you can press and hold the right button to do anything via voice command (Open glovebox, turn on heated seat). I programmed a long press of the left button to open the glovebox. Security of the glovebox is important as the USB with the dashcam recordings are stored on it. I’ve read most of the comments and as a Tesla model Y owner most of peoples concerns were my own until I bought one! But in all honesty it’s a great A to B car! Cheap insurance, no road tax ‘for now’, service every 2 years and most importantly I do 500 miles per week and it cost me £11 in electricity is a no brainer! You don’t look at the screen as much as you think, the Tesla assistant does most of it for you “set temp to 22C” done! Standard auto pilot on M25 is a god send! What it does make you is a very lazy driver because the car does everything pretty much! But apart from a cost point of you even if you have to pay road tax, monthly electric bill for me is £31 (octopus energy). Tesla supercharging network is fantastic! I live and work in London so it makes perfect sense for me, so unless I win the lottery and can afford to buy a brand new Aston Martin I’ll stick with my Tesla for now!

No servicing, no problems with spark/glow plugs, egr valves, dpf's turbo's, injectors, numerous sensors, coolant, exhausts, emissions etc etc. Not a fan of the minimalistic dash/controls, but my first car only had a speedo, fuel and temp gauge.

      john the government are putting plans in place to increase the unit price per kw of electricity up massively for charging ev's from home hence the massive push amd pressure for smart meters to be installed once they get enough though the gate and switched over to ev's as they will be losing too much revenue on vat and fuel duty from fossil fuel sales... predictions range from 60p to 90p per kwh from home chargers.... good luck with that and getting rid of it in a few years time when the battery degrades and you will be lucky to get sub 200 miles on a charge or face multiple thousands in battery replacement costs..... EVs are the betamax of the car world you just don't know it yet

    • @g.d2450
      @g.d2450 8 месяцев назад +4

      silly statement to make, insurance is more expensive on an ev, eat through tyres and are more expensive in the first place to carry it's lardy weight around... damage the battery, it needs replaced and even then with battery degradation give it 5 years and the cars worthless as it will need replaced at the cost of multiple thousands of pounds.
      enough people make the transition to EVs and the government are going to massively increase the cost per kwh of electricity from home chargers through smart meter monitoring and will know when your charging an ev through the massive draw of electricity as they will be losing too much revenue from fuel duty and vat , they're also introducing road tax to EVs as well soon so any slight advantage an ev ever had over an ice car will be lost and then some 😂

    Personally I wouldn’t have gone HP, rather a decent-priced lease and hand it back after 3 years. Then you get the tax benefits with a known lifetime cost.
    EVs are not really for me, but then again if I needed a business-sensible A to B vehicle for an employee who actually wanted one, it’s a no brainier!

    My friend leases a model 3 long range through his company. In that respect it makes perfect sense. It takes time to learn how to do everything, ideally you’d not try to do it while driving and filming. If you’re leasing one through a business it’s a no brainer. You don’t have to give a monkeys about battery life or depreciation. If Tesla refresh the Model Y I’ll have a serious look at leasing one through my company. There are alternatives and if you can charge from home they’re worth looking at. The Jeep Wagoneer S, Cadillac Optiq and Polestar 4 all look promising.
    If you’re old enough to remember, they sold cars online back in the late 90’s. My friend ordered a new Honda Civic through Virgin Cars. Tesco also sold new cars I think. Didn’t last though - way too forward thinking for the time.

    Model Y driver here - I've had it for just over a year so happy to answer any questions. Car before it was a diesel Skoda Octavia Estate (which nearly bankrupted me as it died spectacularly but that's another story), before that I had a C Max, a C4 Grand Picasso (worst car ever!) and then a petrol Octavia hatchback. In a nutshell - I **LOVE** the Model Y. It's not perfect, obviously, but it's pretty darn close. It's hands-down the best car I've ever owned (well, leased) and driven. So so so cheap to run (7.5p/kWh to charge overnight at home so that's £5.62 for 300+ miles - if you compare that to a Diesel car that might get 600+ miles that's still only £11.25 for a "full tank". And contrary to what people who've never lived with an EV will probably assume, I hardly ever have to think about range / charging / any of that nonsense. Genuinely. I just drive it and get on with it, and it's excellent. Happy to answer any genuine questions (and no I don't work for Tesla, although I have bought some shares over the years...)
