There was a time when Cathay Pacific were heading toward extinction like Pan Am to deliver a viable product, but they have upped their game in the last decade to compete with the likes of SIA, Emirates, Thai and Qatar Airways in the lucrative Europe/America to Asia market and now deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as those airlines.

I have been a worldwide first class frequent traveler (including Concorde) for more than 40 years. I can say, in my opinion, Cathay’s intercontinental first class is the best in the world. It’s not just the extra wide seats, the premium pajamas, the wonderful food, beautiful china and flatware, but it’s the consistently impeccable service. Their first class is not garish with gold-plated this and that instead it’s functional British Hong Kong-influenced luxury and class. Think of it as a Rolls Royce compared to Bentley.

I've been binge watching your content Dan! I haven't flown in 7 years due to an immense fear in an an emergency landing from EMA to PRA. However I watch others who do this, and they seem to brag their riches. You don't. You're so down to earth and kind. I'm pushing myself and going to get back on a plane this year!!! Thank you ❤️❤️

It is a great product! I recently flew LHR to HKG in CX F and I had my best sleep in flight. That bed is so wide and comfortable, almost like at home! And the PJs and slippers are soft and comfy too, not to mention the incredible service from the crew. The food was very good, but not the most beautifully presented though. I thought they would have hot canapés with the welcome drink, but no. Yes, I would love to fly them in F again!

Thanks. Reminded me of an upgrade to first on a triple seven after a grueling 23 days in Korea and Japan working some new supply agreements. I was offered the upgrade at Narita to SFO for very few miles, which I had piled up in excess. I still remember that first lay flat bed, I really loved it.

I once had a chance to take the Cathay Pacific first class from Chicago to Hong Kong and their bed has utmost comfort across the airline industry! But I also would like to see them upgrading the First class and Business class to stay competitive in the industry. A sliding door, combining 2 first class seats into 1 gigantic bed, better food options would be a great addition to the already fabulous First and Business class! Nice review.

Looking forward to the new CX first class seats on the 777-9! I wonder what CX'll come up with. Probably not as spacious than an SQ A380 F suite, although to be fair it's pretty much impossible to waste more space than SQ.

If you weren’t so tall, I’d refer to you as the Little Prince. You looked like you belonged in first class, on a big throne yet. Most of your food looked good apart from that dry looking salad, that needed noodles and a sauce! It’s those nuances that people from other cultures can miss from time to time. Cathay Pacific is fabulous but it’s these little things that make a difference. When I fly on different international airlines I always pick their national food rather than the Western option so that the food seems better and if anything is amiss, I don’t know. Glad you had a great time and I hope the rest if this journey goes as well as this leg. Cheers, Colin
