That's because this game feels like it's gonna change the future for better or worse. I also don't plan on playing this because fawk live services in these types of games but the fascination stems from how it performs critically and financially. It it succeeds that means more studios are gonna greenlight live services and if it fails it sends one more strong message that gamers won't support this and hopefully that causes a restructuring of the future to the gamers benefit. Or maybe I'm just overthrowing it and this game literally doesn't mean shit either way.

By no means am I expecting this to be some great game day 1, but I see the potential, and I WANT it to succeed and be a good game. More good games is always a good thing. As someone who's loved borderlands since the first game all that matters to me is that the characters feel unique and that loot system is deep enough to keep me chasing the dragon. Can't lie, I think this looks like a blast 🤷

WB looked at the horrible reception that Leto's Joker received and went "Yeah let's go with that!". I mean, Jesus Christ, even in a game that doesn't center around Batman anymore, they STILL can't help themselves from shoehorning the Joker in.
Honestly it's really hard to make the Joker stand out with so many different portrayals of the same character. Like I'm not saying to never do it again or that he isn't the Batman's hardest and best villan. But there are other villans to focus on

Bro I can't get past King Shark running around with an AR doing parkour. They weren't creative enough to make use of his character, they'll do the same with every single character they add. They'll have Clayface running around with a rifle, cracking quips, and swinging like spiderman

Ill be honest, they kinda won me over. I hated that they weren't making a new arkham game, but the more ive seen of this and the more i know what to expect, im kinda pumped for this. Man, Rocksteady missed out on the opportunity of bringing The Batman Who Laughs to the game through the elseworld / multiverse. It may have not won me over, but it would be cool to see as a comic book fan

Their "you get loot if another player uses your build" feature probably reminds of, like your chat mentioned, the AC: Valaha companion system or most likely Draagon Dogma's Pawn system, which essentially functioned the same way. Also I think that other dude was generalizing about videogames being fun and unique experiences when multiplayer, that playing with friends is always a unique thing, not that their multiplayer specifically is.
I dont disagree with your take on the pick up & put down from players quickly after launch. The saving grace is the free episodes that are playable ar any point, so if you dont like a theme you can just skip it and then pick it up again for a few weeks when they like the theme
The game you were remembering is Dragons Dogma. It lent you other players characters or bits while they were offline. They would get exp as a result of you playing their character. So there is nothing unique about this game.
While I don't think this game looks amazing and most of the critiques seem pretty valid, I'm still looking forward to this. I'm not crazy about battle royales, souls likes, or roguelikes and everything seems to be a lot of that. A narrative driven (although with live service elements) third person shooter isn't as common to come by as it was 15 years ago and almost feels like a nice little rarity. I won't hold my breath, but I hope this is fun.
Despite what I'm seeing and hearing, I'm still have this deep curiosity about this game. 19:56 i think theyeve said that theres a bunch of different enemy types based for each member of the justice league. The purple ones will be brainiac villains but then theyll be differnet ki ds of enemeies (similiar to the gangs from previous games) for each of the other targets. Like thay red one looks like one of the flash's enemy types. Its why ive hated this "lilling ourple monsters" thing.. like hes braniac... purples kind of his colour. Even if they made a superman game when youre fighting braniac youd just be fighting hundreds of purple monsters

Yeah, I'm kinda interested in this Joker. The moment they said he was in a team, I immediately said, "ok, so not the Joker?" Which is true. But if they actually flesh out this essentially new character and play into an obviously interesting dynamic he could have with Harley, it could be cool. Maybe I'm just glad somebody finally leaned away from the grunge gross joker trend that the Nolan Batman movies infected everything with. Also his movement and combat animation look fun, that influenced my opinion for sure.
I really hate that characters can never stay dead nowadays. They always have to come back some how and the only reason they are adding a new Joker is because they know people will buy it and a cheap way to make money. It really removes all meaning from killing off a character just so that you can bring them back a little while later. I'm so sick of this bullshit. I do think the idea of adding new villains to play as is really cool, but I don't like this new Joker thing. Plus, Joker is not a fighter, not sure if it's just me, but it seems as if they are doing what they did back in Arkham Asylum with the final boss fight and they are making Joker a physical threat rather than a psychological and mental threat.
Problem i have here now with them opening up the multiverse is what the hell does the game being set in the arkham universe even matter now? What does the main story even matter for? Anything can just be retconned, and theres no more sense or reason for continuity. One of the main appeals was seeing the continuation of the arkhamverse, but that now has no overall bearing with them just pulling out full characters from elseworlds

Everytime i see this game it looks good. There really hasnt been anything putting me off. I liked the idea of gotham knights but the gameplay wasnt there. This looks good! Story, gameplay (even with guns), atmosphere, post-release plan. Genuinely looks good to me. Also arkham is one of my favorite series so if anything my bias should be in the other diection. Am i the only one who feels this? Before i post tho, the hud is atrocious
Not sure if this is the plan but the endgame should also contain boss fights against the JL like in the story. Then maybe add alternate world JL members or even new league heroes to fight.

It's going to be hilarious how people still can't understand critique vs criticism as fans, and this comes out and is an 8/10. The quasi personal attacks on a creation/product, is not critique, its criticism and should be left to people not with voices in the medium. This constant notion of "shooting purple guys for hour and hours" as a bad thing is kind of pointless when you realize that the game is literally a looter SHOOTER. Every single looter shooter on the market has the player shooting/killing hundreds/thousands of similar enemy types throughout the entire gameplay loop, with mini bosses, and main bosses thrown in. Borderlands has the bandits, skags, rakks,....etc, division has the street gangs, drones, named bosses,....etc, Destiny has the same handful of enemy factions and their variants the player is shooting their way through,.....etc. Its the nature of the genre and has been since its popularity with the Borderlands series. Also they have already talked about enemy variants in the steam with Lupo and the others, that will be in the base game not just the next season (such as flash infused enemies that zip around the map). So while I agree more enemy variety in a looter shooter is always a good thing, the game is about shooting so obviously if you don't want to spend hundreds of hours shooting similar enemies for the entire time then the entire genre was never for you in the first place. I'm kind of tired of people looking at looter shooters with the lens of other genres, rather then looking at them and realizing that 99% of the gameplay is SHOOTING (duh), its in the name of the genre lol.
i swear DC online did this premise the fact that brainiac tries to take over the world and in DC online heroes and villains help to save the world but in this its just the villains and it feels like the end game is the villains of DC stuck in a time loop of constantly defeating brainiac

One thought… I’m definitely disappointed in the direction and have virtually no interest in this - as a huge Batman fan it just wasn’t made for me. And I’m saddened by that. Also hope everybody that can love it… does. THAT SAID… the point about the dev regarding the unique multiplayer experience… I think that was taken out of context unintentionally. If you listen to what he says immediately after the cut you referenced, he makes it obvious he didn’t misspeak. It may have been clunky, but he was saying that the multiplayer gaming experience is unique and special as a WHOLE, not that SSKTJL invented it. He immediately afterward adds the specific things they’ve worked to add to that experience to take it to a different level. That would indicate the original level(s) previously existed and the hype reel is instead asserting they’re doing some cool new stuff to build upon the multiplayer squad based genre, including deeper character development for multiple playable characters.
These elseworld boss fights are definitely just gunna be reskins of the base bosses. Joker chapters will just be a re skin batman with new voicelines, if the do Professor Zoom then the boss will be Wally West flash etc. A cool concept but more than likely a dull addition. I really want to like this game and feel like the real impressions will come from reviews that can show the 3rd act gameplay.

the fact that every DLC will be free is good, yes, but the "avengers vibes" are still here. Games failing is bad for both the developers and the players, i never expected a new arkham game and i still hope this game turns out to be at least a "DC themed" sunset overdrive. what i expected, though, was more focus on melee. i like the shooting focus but it's a bit weird that rocksteady (the pioneers of free-flow) gave the characters one melee attack each. it would have been cool to see a mixture of freeflow combat with shooting mechanics: potentially an original, really cool thing.
It feels like a bad faith take but the fact they're ALREADY talking about post-launch content on a game they barely even want to admit is live-service feels like they already gave up on the game selling itself. Like having a tiny teaser wouldn't have hurt but they're basically showing the whole plan for season 1 a week before launch.
I really like the game's presentation. The character models, the cutscenes, the dialogue are all appealing to me. The gameplay is still not convincing though.

With all these colours onscreen, I'd expect there's gonna be colour coded enemies tied to your character. So some are more/less buffed against you when fighting them.

I hope it's awesome, too. It's coming around I think, like at first it was looking like a mess but they're starting to finally get to telling us the core of the game. This stuff clicks with me, I've put 100s of hours into Destiny, so I love shooter combat that lets you break it up with some melee and the idea of having this indirect pvp is cool. The problem to me is still the end game, like if end game is literally just chasing scoreboards, fashion and waiting on new character drops, that's not going to keep people playing. But all of this stuff being free and not being taken away is actually a step in the right direction, coming from being used to Bungie's model with Destiny.

the only critique i've heard for this game is that there's "too much" going on onscreen and that it's not an arkham batman game. you can turn the damage numbers, healthbars etc off in the settings, and it's not bad that rocksteady's trying something new. when Origins was released everyone complained that it was the same as City, people really can't make their minds up

I’m assuming episodes are similar to chapters and in the beta each chapter was around an hour to two hours long.Also it would be actual story stuff cause Joker has cutscenes.
I do like that these episodes will always be available unlike MK1 which when a new season hits they remove the previous one so you may miss out on content.

I honestly think the endgame looks good for a looter shooter. I understand people are turned off by looter shooters but for an endgame what they are describing is actually really good. Their "you get loot if another player uses your build" feature probably reminds of, like your chat mentioned, the AC: Valaha companion system or most likely Draagon Dogma's Pawn system, which essentially functioned the same way. Also I think that other dude was generalizing about videogames being fun and unique experiences when multiplayer, that playing with friends is always a unique thing, not that their multiplayer specifically is.
I dont disagree with your take on the pick up & put down from players quickly after launch.
The saving grace is the free episodes that are playable ar any point, so if you dont like a theme you can just skip it and then pick it up again for a few weeks when they like the theme
The game you were remembering is Dragons Dogma. It lent you other players characters or bits while they were offline. They would get exp as a result of you playing their character. So there is nothing unique about this game.
Hoping it’s more than just XP
While I don't think this game looks amazing and most of the critiques seem pretty valid, I'm still looking forward to this.
I'm not crazy about battle royales, souls likes, or roguelikes and everything seems to be a lot of that. A narrative driven (although with live service elements) third person shooter isn't as common to come by as it was 15 years ago and almost feels like a nice little rarity. I won't hold my breath, but I hope this is fun.
Despite what I'm seeing and hearing, I'm still have this deep curiosity about this game. Personally my hopes of it being a great game is pretty much nonexistent, BUT I do see the potential of it, and think that it can be a good game eventually. I hope that it can succeed and become a good game, because I like the universe and want another game that I can just chill out and play to without much thought. Obviously not going to be a day 1 purchase for me, but I hope that it is good enough to where it will be worth purchasing later down the line.

19:56 i think theyeve said that theres a bunch of different enemy types based for each member of the justice league. The purple ones will be brainiac villains but then theyll be differnet ki ds of enemeies (similiar to the gangs from previous games) for each of the other targets. Like thay red one looks like one of the flash's enemy types.

Thank you for this. How many thugs that did the same shit did we beat up in Arkham. Surprise they pretty much were all dressed like inmates. Also most people have only played the beginning of the game and typically those are the easiest and most mundane enemies.
Yeah, I'm kinda interested in this Joker. The moment they said he was in a team, I immediately said, "ok, so not the Joker?" Which is true. But if they actually flesh out this essentially new character and play into an obviously interesting dynamic he could have with Harley, it could be cool. Maybe I'm just glad somebody finally leaned away from the grunge gross joker trend that the Nolan Batman movies infected everything with.
Also his movement and combat animation look fun, that influenced my opinion for sure.
I really hate that characters can never stay dead nowadays. They always have to come back some how and the only reason they are adding a new Joker is because they know people will buy it and a cheap way to make money. It really removes all meaning from killing off a character just so that you can bring them back a little while later. I'm so sick of this bullshit. I do think the idea of adding new villains to play as is really cool, but I don't like this new Joker thing. Plus, Joker is not a fighter, not sure if it's just me, but it seems as if they are doing what they did back in Arkham Asylum with the final boss fight and they are making Joker a physical threat rather than a psychological and mental threat.
Problem i have here now with them opening up the multiverse is what the hell does the game being set in the arkham universe even matter now? What does the main story even matter for? Anything can just be retconned, and theres no more sense or reason for continuity. One of the main appeals was seeing the continuation of the arkhamverse, but that now has no overall bearing with them just pulling out full characters from elseworlds

Everytime i see this game it looks good. There really hasnt been anything putting me off. I liked the idea of gotham knights but the gameplay wasnt there. This looks good! Story, gameplay (even with guns), atmosphere, post-release plan. Genuinely looks good to me. Also arkham is one of my favorite series so if anything my bias should be in the other diection. Am i the only one who feels this? Before i post tho, the hud is atrocious
Not sure if this is the plan but the endgame should also contain boss fights against the JL like in the story. Then maybe add alternate world JL members or even new league heroes to fight.

WB not putting Joker in a Rocksteady game challenge: Impossible
This constant notion of "shooting purple guys for hour and hours" as a bad thing is kind of pointless when you realize that the game is literally a looter SHOOTER. Every single looter shooter on the market has the player shooting/killing hundreds/thousands of similar enemy types throughout the entire gameplay loop, with mini bosses, and main bosses thrown in. Borderlands has the bandits, skags, rakks,....etc, division has the street gangs, drones, named bosses,....etc, Destiny has the same handful of enemy factions and their variants the player is shooting their way through,.....etc. Its the nature of the genre and has been since its popularity with the Borderlands series.
Also they have already talked about enemy variants in the steam with Lupo and the others, that will be in the base game not just the next season (such as flash infused enemies that zip around the map). So while I agree more enemy variety in a looter shooter is always a good thing, the game is about shooting so obviously if you don't want to spend hundreds of hours shooting similar enemies for the entire time then the entire genre was never for you in the first place.
I'm kind of tired of people looking at looter shooters with the lens of other genres, rather then looking at them and realizing that 99% of the gameplay is SHOOTING (duh), its in the name of the genre lol.

One thought… I’m definitely disappointed in the direction and have virtually no interest in this - as a huge Batman fan it just wasn’t made for me. And I’m saddened by that. Also hope everybody that can love it… does.
THAT SAID… the point about the dev regarding the unique multiplayer experience… I think that was taken out of context unintentionally. If you listen to what he says immediately after the cut you referenced, he makes it obvious he didn’t misspeak. It may have been clunky, but he was saying that the multiplayer gaming experience is unique and special as a WHOLE, not that SSKTJL invented it. He immediately afterward adds the specific things they’ve worked to add to that experience to take it to a different level.
That would indicate the original level(s) previously existed and the hype reel is instead asserting they’re doing some cool new stuff to build upon the multiplayer squad based genre, including deeper character development for multiple playable characters.

These elseworld boss fights are definitely just gunna be reskins of the base bosses. Joker chapters will just be a re skin batman with new voicelines, if the do Professor Zoom then the boss will be Wally West flash etc. A cool concept but more than likely a dull addition. I really want to like this game and feel like the real impressions will come from reviews that can show the 3rd act gameplay.

what i expected, though, was more focus on melee. i like the shooting focus but it's a bit weird that rocksteady (the pioneers of free-flow) gave the characters one melee attack each. it would have been cool to see a mixture of freeflow combat with shooting mechanics: potentially an original, really cool thing.

It feels like a bad faith take but the fact they're ALREADY talking about post-launch content on a game they barely even want to admit is live-service feels like they already gave up on the game selling itself. Like having a tiny teaser wouldn't have hurt but they're basically showing the whole plan for season 1 a week before launch.
To get players invested in the game to know there’s more to it..?
This truly is a game made for dc fans. I think its also going to be a game for grinders, which not everyone enjoys, but I do. I will be buying.
I really like the game's presentation. The character models, the cutscenes, the dialogue are all appealing to me. The gameplay is still not convincing though.

The Moment they gave guns to melee characters, especially some that DON'T EVEN HAVE REAL HANDS they lost me and confirmed this game is a joke and will be stillborn

Again, what's funny about the tutorial having the same map as the endgame else world.
It was aprt of the narrative for us to think that the world haa gone to shit before it warps us back to the start of the story.

Well, after looking up the names from the ones who created Arkham knight, none of them people even worked on this game, and it definitely shows in this product
With all these colours onscreen, I'd expect there's gonna be colour coded enemies tied to your character. So some are more/less buffed against you when fighting them.
I really like to see this live service style for justice league for example for the post story content they could add non main justice league members like atom,hawk man,green arrow and...

I hope it's awesome, too. It's coming around I think, like at first it was looking like a mess but they're starting to finally get to telling us the core of the game. This stuff clicks with me, I've put 100s of hours into Destiny, so I love shooter combat that lets you break it up with some melee and the idea of having this indirect pvp is cool. The problem to me is still the end game, like if end game is literally just chasing scoreboards, fashion and waiting on new character drops, that's not going to keep people playing. But all of this stuff being free and not being taken away is actually a step in the right direction, coming from being used to Bungie's model with Destiny.

Rocksteady should've made a Justice League game, no idea what they were thinking with this abomination (Suicide Squad)...
the only critique i've heard for this game is that there's "too much" going on onscreen and that it's not an arkham batman game. you can turn the damage numbers, healthbars etc off in the settings, and it's not bad that rocksteady's trying something new. when Origins was released everyone complained that it was the same as City, people really can't make their minds up
I was staring at the chat there is NO WAY Dekuworld and CM weren't paid chatters. They were glazing this game an unrealistic amount. Either they're paid or children and I hate saying people were paid to support a game 😂
I’m assuming episodes are similar to chapters and in the beta each chapter was around an hour to two hours long.Also it would be actual story stuff cause Joker has cutscenes.
I do like that these episodes will always be available unlike MK1 which when a new season hits they remove the previous one so you may miss out on content.

I feel like the devs are really trying but it’s just boxed in somewhere where all of us kinda know what it already is so it’s hard to surprise us I kinda feel for them tbh but I still ain’t paying full price or anything for that game

I feel like it’ll be cheap fast so I’ll wait for that unless I start hearing fantastic things, alpha felt pretty smooth and I kinda liked what I played but not enough to really hook me
