Game dev here. I'll tell you why they didn't do the ice as actual platforms that other people can ride on. Right now the ice only exists as a VFX. It's not even there as a physical thing. And the "ice path ability" just fixes her movement in a specific way. As in her movement gets locked by a code to follow a specific path and ice exists as vfx. Think of it like she's riding a hover board with ice vfx. That's why the ice melts as fast as it does. Doing what you want would've required the ice path and her movement to be two independent systems that interact with one other. So coding wise her ice path would've been one thing that she lays down as an environmental interactable object, and then her riding on that ice path would've been a separate "incident". Benefit would be that you can then use that same "incident" and apply that to other characters that also use the ice path. But that's not what they did. However, there is a game that actually did do it correctly. It's called spellbreak. It's now shut down but in spell break the frost class could shoot an ice arrow that would freeze everything beneath it and every party member that got on the ice would get a massive speed boost. But that requires your characters to not exist in isolation in the game world. But in suicide squad all characters exist in isolation where their abilities don't actually interact with each others at all. And making the ice platform thing for "Mrs freeze" when you don't have an existing framework where characters abilities can interact with each other would've taken much more effort than the game is worth. Idk if I did good job of explaining it or not if anyone has any doubts feel free to ask and I'll explain further via edits.

I would also argue that it would create problems for other players in terms of obstructing elements while they want to aim. It leads to unintentional player harassment. A comparable would be Frost and Limbo from Warframe. Although Frost is fixed now … 9 years later ;)

Yeah no, the voice acting in this is horrible. Waller, Flash and Shark are the only ones sounding decent. The rest are painful to listen to on top of an incredibly shitty dialogue
Their attempts to pander with the gender swapping and the awful pride clothing are hilariously bad. It's like they're actively trying to make this game fail as hard as possible.
A character who can travel on air with her ice but couldn't even bother freezing her enemy. A character whose entire body basically an ice but somehow still got hair on her head. A character who call Ms.Freeze but using a minigun to fight the enemy instead of her cryo weapon. A character that revolve around ice yet glowing red the entire time. Brainiac somehow losing to these people but the thing that amazed me the most is that some investor really invest money on this game.
So the game was originally focused on melee. Investors typically invest around pitches and or prototypes. What they invested in was mostly likely not what we have now. They were pitched or showed something entirely different and then the game changed into this.
Didn't do Captain Cold (A Flash Rogue that Boomer knows) Didn't do Killer Frost (A established Squad member) Didn't do Icicle (A ice villain that's only had major appearance in Smallville, Young Justice and Robot Chicken) Didn't do Nora Fries as Mrs. Freeze (Since that's an actual thing in mainline Batman comics) ...but a Genderbent Mrs. Freeze with not great design...

After seeing Deadpool, I have to say… I’m EXTREMELY disappointed thinking about what this game COULD’VE been. This game was supposed to have that raunchy, “edgy” humor that Deadpool does so well, but literally everything about this game and its characters are cringe. The former, however, is another form of egregious: it is the literal embodiment of, "my sexual orientation is my identity". Like, that is her only defining trait, with the suit and the sign emote are both saying, "Hey guys, I'm a lesbian! I stand for pride! Do you get I'm LGBT?! Do you?! DO YOU!? I'M A LESBIAN!!!" Somebody designed these, showed these to the team, got them approved and modelled, and no where along that line did ANYONE even question it. I like how in her team intro cutscene they have her go to lift her helmet to have the bomb injected, we cut away entirely for more patented "jokes", and then we cut back to Mrs. Freeze just in time for her to have put her helmet back. They couldn't even be bothered to animate her helmet being removed for a brief cutscene.

The Miss freeze character design with the pride outfit is the most stereotypical design ive ever seen Icl if i was apart of that community and saw that outift when playing id be pissed, like im black but its like them designing a character with those usual side swept dreads but then sticking on a BLM shirt on me and a kneeling emote or dressing me into a wannabe gangster to fit the stereotype. You don't know the true origin of the snap as a method of indicating audience affirmation. Let this old gray werewolf help out. Snapping of fingers to show support or affirmation came from beatnik culture. There was a time when beatnik's had poetry readings and other events at "underground" residential locations. Many times these locations were at someones home. Many times these readings or events were late at night or early morning. The key was you had to be quiet so you did not wake up the landlord or others at the event location. So instead of many people clapping making LOTS of noise the much more quiet snapping of fingers became the correct way to signal affirmation \ appreciation to an actor or presenter.

Not only has she been on the SS several times before, but she already perfect fits what they wouldve been going for. It wouldve also helped with the criticism that there are too many batman adjacent characters on the squad and given a lesser known character an opportunity to shine. Look, this game doesn't deserve the energy of my braincells firing but I cannot stop being baffled at why Freeze let them put a bomb in her when she A) ALREADY MADE A DEAL TO WORK FOR THEM and B) let them take her wife which already is 99% of what Batman used to make Freeze work for him in the whole Arkham series. They had ONE actual cutscene with her and it makes NO SENSE. Literally the ONLY good thing about this game is the mo-cap and thats just having an actor in a suit that you slap a model on in game.

I think you said it best with the team signing on to do a Live-service needs to be in it for the long haul, and this team didn't want to be attached forever. WB could've made this game with another studio or repurposed the devs that didn't want to be attached put them somewhere else. That Waller is comic book Waller and animated. There was no heart. Me if it was a decade ago, I wouldve said we can have the weapons but each character needs to attack in there particular way. Like you equip Boomer with the bane shotgun and it changes how he throws his rangs, or With this Freeze it could've been Killer Frost shooting Icicles and the weapons change reactions and certain styles of play. This really comes down to direction and knowing source material with no heart. I love that Waller thing because I love the SS comics and cartoons.

I don’t know how these types of games work, but wouldn’t it have been better if you had a chance to test out a low level version of the new character, before you have to fully grind for them? For example, you boot up the dlc, mission 1 starts off as a “go get this person at that place”, you do that, meet the character, bad guys show up, switch from your pc to the dlc character, and you wreck shop for a bit. At the of the fight, dlc character says something along the lines of “yeah I got my own stuff to deal with, see you around” Then the customer gets what they paid for, and the company gets some initial investment for the players to keep playing.
I think asking executives to ever see anything beyond the next quarter’s profits is never going to happen. To be blunt, I think all of these service games are just trying to balance spending as little money as possible with players spending as often as they can. Its why WB wanted the iconography of suicide squad for this (the movies may not have been great but were undoubtedly seen by many, casual gamers and hardcore ones alike) and it also incorporated a popular game franchise like Arkham by setting them in the same universe. Beyond that, I think enough resources were poured into this just so players would have a reason to come back. I dont think at any point the people making big decisions on this game were ever aligned with the customers in terms of quality and scope, and thats why this is such a fun little disaster for the greedy execs at WB. Bravo!

So the game was originally focused on melee. Investors typically invest around pitches and or prototypes. What they invested in was mostly likely not what we have now. They were pitched or showed something entirely different and then the game changed into this.

After seeing Deadpool, I have to say… I’m EXTREMELY disappointed thinking about what this game COULD’VE been. This game was supposed to have that raunchy, “edgy” humor that Deadpool does so well, but literally everything about this game and its characters are cringe.

The Pride outfits are just hilariously uninspired, just take each flag and plaster it on there, as well as the holding up the sign lol.
Just when we thought her design wasn't hideous enough, they pull the Pride and Riddler skins (with the latter is the most hideous). The former, however, is another form of egregious: it is the literal embodiment of, "my sexual orientation is my identity". Like, that is her only defining trait, with the suit and the sign emote are both saying, "Hey guys, I'm a lesbian! I stand for pride! Do you get I'm LGBT?! Do you?! DO YOU!? I'M A LESBIAN!!!" Somebody designed these, showed these to the team, got them approved and modelled, and no where along that line did ANYONE even question it. And while I agree with Luke that activists in games will eventually bleed themselves out, the problem is the media running defense for them, calling anyone who points it out as a bigot. Of course, those sites aren't long for this world either, as Kotaku AU just learned recently (might want to update that resume, Alyssa, Kotaku actual is next!).
Nobody questioned and instead endorsed and approved it because people like that literally exist and probably work in the team. Their choice of who they sleep with is their entire identity because otherwise their lives are empty and miserable

I like how in her team intro cutscene they have her go to lift her helmet to have the bomb injected, we cut away entirely for more patented "jokes", and then we cut back to Mrs. Freeze just in time for her to have put her helmet back. They couldn't even be bothered to animate her helmet being removed for a brief cutscene.

The Miss freeze character design with the pride outfit is the most stereotypical design ive ever seen Icl if i was apart of that community and saw that outift when playing id be pissed, like im black but its like them designing a character with those usual side swept dreads but then sticking on a BLM shirt on me and a kneeling emote or dressing me into a wannabe gangster to fit the stereotype. All this shit does is give bigots fuel and make them think their false stereotypes are true.

Luke, that red and yellow "Mrs. Zero" outfit is actually the original version of Mr. Freeze's suit when he was first introduced. He was called Mr Zero in his first appearance in the 50s.

Pride was a month ago 1. 2. They're plenty of LGBTQ villains in DC that have no greater media presence than the comics so for them to not include them, but make a doppelganger of Mr freeze is just bizarre.

You don't know the true origin of the snap as a method of indicating audience affirmation. Let this old gray werewolf help out. Snapping of fingers to show support or affirmation came from beatnik culture. There was a time when beatnik's had poetry readings and other events at "underground" residential locations. Many times these locations were at someones home. Many times these readings or events were late at night or early morning. The key was you had to be quiet so you did not wake up the landlord or others at the event location. So instead of many people clapping making LOTS of noise the much more quiet snapping of fingers became the correct way to signal affirmation \ appreciation to an actor or presenter.

I just gotta say I feel so stupid for getting momentarily excited at seeing Mrs. Freeze’s combat. For just a second I thought "She’s gonna freeze people with her freeze ray! That’ll be cool!" and she pulls out a fucking minigun! I don’t care about the gender swap or the ugly skins, wasting the gameplay potential and uniqueness of DC’s rogue’s gallery is the biggest sin of this game.
It woulda been cool if instead Nora became Mrs Freeze and the story was flipped or something.

What's going on in this game is a very clear case of shoving it down people's throats and it's even worse because the neither the premise nor the game is enjoyable...

They dont even have an excuse for this one. If they needed another woman on the team and they wanted to be ice themed, killer frost. Not only has she been on the SS several times before, but she already perfect fits what they wouldve been going for. Not to mention that she doesn't have an iconic weapon like a freeze gun that would just get replaced with the normal guns anyway. It wouldve also helped with the criticism that there are too many batman adjacent characters on the squad and given a lesser known character an opportunity to shine. But why do anything that makes sense when they can just go against the grain and tell us theyre giving us the stuff we didnt know that we wanted

It's downright stupid, not only the design of the character itself (which is also fugly) but the fact that they could just only use Killer Frost if they wanted a DC female villan with ice powers.

Look, this game doesn't deserve the energy of my braincells firing but I cannot stop being baffled at why Freeze let them put a bomb in her when she A) ALREADY MADE A DEAL TO WORK FOR THEM and B) let them take her wife which already is 99% of what Batman used to make Freeze work for him in the whole Arkham series.
They had ONE actual cutscene with her and it makes NO SENSE. Literally the ONLY good thing about this game is the mo-cap and thats just having an actor in a suit that you slap a model on in game.

I think you said it best with the team signing on to do a Live-service needs to be in it for the long haul, and this team didn't want to be attached forever. WB could've made this game with another studio or repurposed the devs that didn't want to be attached put them somewhere else. That Waller is comic book Waller and animated. There was no heart. Me if it was a decade ago, I wouldve said we can have the weapons but each character needs to attack in there particular way. Like you equip Boomer with the bane shotgun and it changes how he throws his rangs, or With this Freeze it could've been Killer Frost shooting Icicles and the weapons change reactions and certain styles of play. This really comes down to direction and knowing source material with no heart. I love that Waller thing because I love the SS comics and cartoons.

I don’t know how these types of games work, but wouldn’t it have been better if you had a chance to test out a low level version of the new character, before you have to fully grind for them?
For example, you boot up the dlc, mission 1 starts off as a “go get this person at that place”, you do that, meet the character, bad guys show up, switch from your pc to the dlc character, and you wreck shop for a bit.
At the of the fight, dlc character says something along the lines of “yeah I got my own stuff to deal with, see you around”
Then the customer gets what they paid for, and the company gets some initial investment for the players to keep playing.
I reckon more people bought the ultimate bunny skin in first descendant than played this game

One thing that always make me mad is that the movement seens really really fun overall, with every character
I think asking executives to ever see anything beyond the next quarter’s profits is never going to happen. To be blunt, I think all of these service games are just trying to balance spending as little money as possible with players spending as often as they can. Its why WB wanted the iconography of suicide squad for this (the movies may not have been great but were undoubtedly seen by many, casual gamers and hardcore ones alike) and it also incorporated a popular game franchise like Arkham by setting them in the same universe. Beyond that, I think enough resources were poured into this just so players would have a reason to come back. I dont think at any point the people making big decisions on this game were ever aligned with the customers in terms of quality and scope, and thats why this is such a fun little disaster for the greedy execs at WB. Bravo!
