Of course not
They (media) do this deliberately for whatever reason When the Force Awakens trailer dropped, they included a deliberate close up shot of a stormtrooper taking off their helmet and a highly phenotypical nigerian-british face emerging...not what the audience expected, it was likely done for marketing purposes in order to adversie the film through controversy as well as capture a more global audience. Given what we'd seen about the clones previously (maori actor, who didn't receive noticeable backlash btw) it was definitely unexpected from what we thought we knew about stormtroopers. A minority of Star wars fans were concerned the story was being set up for a romance between a dark african man and an exceptionally gifted white woman (which is an insufferable and overdone media trope at this point) and they voiced that disliking. Trust Boyega and his colleagues to cherry pick that and project some delusions of racial injustice to the world...star wars IS multicultural and has been since the 70's, star wars fans are like the original fans of diversity and tolerance.
fans of diversity and tolerance? tolerance towards Han's furry friend. People don't want to admit they're just bigoted racists, they always say "Lando is black and everyone likes him" but have you ever seen the interviews with actor Billy Dee Williams? How do people react at the time? They threatened his daughter at school, he went out on the street and received insults and threats.
If he had gone on the scene with Rey in episode 8, they could have weaved in his “force” sensitive qualities for a more dramatic buildup in episode 9. Also, to be consistent, they could have made him a distant relative of Mace Windu (a nod to the Revenge of the Sith fight scene on the spaceship with their predecessors). Then that would have made for an epic finale in episode nine. What a love triangle (and funny one ) that would be.
I honestly don't think the sequel trilogy would have faced such opposition had Disney not squandered the potential by giving Ruin JarJarson free reign. Anway, I came here because Star Wars is supposed to be in a time and place where racism is gone, but it strikes me as very wrong that all characters still are white. It's such a ... ridiculous franchise that way.

Yeah. He has moved on to bigger and better movies like "the woman king" and "they cloned tyrone". I don't think anyone was particularly looking for his return to star wars anyway.
I'm a massive Star Wars fan, a Finn fan, and of John Boyega who plays him. Great actor, playing a great character, and I feel everything that was said. Disney did not do his character justice and if it were me, Finn would have become a Jedi in the prequels and developed a better relationship with Rey. That was what was teased from the beginning and Disney dropped the ball by hiring different directors and writers to make one cohesive story. Bad play by them. I hear they're trying to do a Rey film or series, and if they do, that's Disney's chance to make it up to everyone, right their wrongs, and make Finn a real Jedi in Rey's new order. That's just what I think as a multiple decade long fan of Star Wars.
Not gonna lie, a child that was kidnapped and turned into a soldier that defects from the empire and becomes a Jedi would have been pretty damn cool. I've heard stories that that was the original plan too. So I'd be kind of mad if shit went left like it did in the movies too.
John Boyega had the last laugh, the decision not make him the lead Jedi in the movie and make him the buffoon comic relief, turned black audiences against the franchise and Star Wars doesn’t have a broad enough audience to even make movies any more. You reap what you sow.
i liked finn in force awakens, he should have been trained by luke alongside rey... i mean a storm trooper becoming a jedi is a fresh original idea that most people actually liked about force awakens

Think of this question as a character study, maybe easier to answer if you think of it that way. 😂😂
Shame . His character should have been a First Order spy. He infiltrates the resistance easily by saving Poe. I would love to see Fin’s Jedi journey . Most fans were just disappointed with bad movies rather than being racist.
Wow, what an amazing viewpoint John brought to this. Such an eloquent and intelligent perspective, and one we need so badly right now.
@@tommckellen342 That is the most racist thing anyone has ever said to me. Meanwhile it’ll be a whole fictional character that either doesn’t have a race, race isn’t relevant/crucial to the character, or even DESCRIBED as black in the books, but certain types of white people (mindset wise) think they are the default for EVERYTHING.
Like Rue from Hunger Games, was described as dark skin…they had a light skinned biracial girl play her and they STILL got mad which is interesting because she’s described as dark skinned, but you’re mad that she’s black instead of being mad that she’s too light…i thought it was about accuracy lmao. Of course not
Never was about accuracy, its all about hate e bigotry with racists.
Especially evident in the poster for force awakens, and how it was changed for the Chinese version
how come John looks so much like Denzel Washington . Nice thou. He's gonna make success in the industry just like him too
They (media) do this deliberately for whatever reason
When the Force Awakens trailer dropped, they included a deliberate close up shot of a stormtrooper taking off their helmet and a highly phenotypical nigerian-british face emerging...not what the audience expected, it was likely done for marketing purposes in order to adversie the film through controversy as well as capture a more global audience.
Trust Boyega and his colleagues to cherry pick that and project some delusions of racial injustice to the world...star wars IS multicultural and has been since the 70's, star wars fans are like the original fans of diversity and tolerance.
facts
fans of diversity and tolerance? tolerance towards Han's furry friend.
Fantastic discussion. I have endless amounts of respect for John.
The same people who wanted Finn was the same people that were mad he was in it

I honestly don't think the sequel trilogy would have faced such opposition had Disney not squandered the potential by giving Ruin JarJarson free reign. If anyone is to blame for killing the Skywalker story, it's him, and those who let him.
John is absolutely correct in the bait-and-switch that happened with Finn, but it's that select few in the upper echelon that are the racist a**holes that created the problem they are now trying to fight.
With Moses Ingram in the Kenobi series, she wasn't that bad, but the character was uninspiring and her story wasn't very believable. Seriously, how can a kid survive impalement by a saber?! Even if this is a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, that is too much to ask in the willing suspension of disbelief...

Boyega forgot to mention that if the check amount from Disney is fat enough he will return to play Fin in a heartbeat.
Finn as a character from Force Awakens trailer to Rise of Skywalker arguably has one of the most disappointing story arcs in recent movie history. I was one of those people who got pumped thinking we were getting a black stormtrooper turned Jedi, and instead we got comic relief.
I want to slightly disagree with this. I don't think there was a true game plan going into Moses Ingram's character. She took it upon herself to share the harassment being received through her social media. I think that reached Ewan McGregor and called Disney to support her as well. I don't really believe Disney had anything in structure to support her before Kenobi launched
Much Respect for John and Moses but if Ewan McGregor hadn't stepped up I don't believe in an instant that Disney would've done anything.

Dude I really thought he would of been a jedi smh
Not gonna lie, a child that was kidnapped and turned into a soldier that defects from the empire and becomes a Jedi would have been pretty damn cool. I've heard stories that that was the original plan too. So I'd be kind of mad if shit went left like it did in the movies too.
I really was shipping Finn & Rey together! When I saw that scene between Rey & Kylo , it didn’t feel organic.
He's such a good actor. Shame they pushed his character to the sideline.
John Boyega had the last laugh, the decision not make him the lead Jedi in the movie and make him the buffoon comic relief, turned black audiences against the franchise and Star Wars doesn’t have a broad enough audience to even make movies any more. You reap what you sow.
Where's Rebel Ridge portion?
Ryan Johnson screwed over his character. He was supposed to have qa bigger part but he changed it.
Most memorable thing did in three years was troll Reylo fans as if they weren't low-hanging fruit.
