    New players: Do not be afraid to use /map to ask for help, or Y to open the friends and groups window to advertise a new player group to do some hard content (or jump in and help others already advertising). This isn't like other MMO's where new players are locked out, veterans and other new players are generally happy to jump in and do that story/map event/dungeon with you.

      Yeah, cus like the video said, the game doesn't require you to be grindy and there is level scaling (even if you're level 80 you're scaled down on easier areas). That's why many veterans are happy to help especially on starting areas since it'll benefit them in some way as well. You'll be surprised how many veterans haven't completed the map yet xD

    Not all but a lot of the settings you go through, anet did update and say new players will now automatically have on/switched to for a bunch of these, which is really nice. Was in their August 2'd patch notes...
    " AoE Loot on Interact: On
    Autoloot: Autopickup: On
    Show All Enemy Names: On
    Show All Usable Object Names: On
    Show Skill Recharge: On
    Show Target Health Percent: On
    Disable Player Camera Shake: On
    Right-Click to Attack/Interact: Off
    Melee Attack Assist: Off
    Lock Ground Target at Maximum Skill Range: On"
    Overall hopefully these and the suggestions here and from other vets of the game can really smooth out new players experience. Keep up the great work.

    Nice video!
    Another tip: read the tooltips for your skills, traits, and even the boons and conditions (if they last long enough for you to read) when you see them. Get familiar with what your abilities do and think about what your traits do as you level up so you can understand what might make for a cohesive build. Also, make sure you try out all the weapons and slot skills your class has access to as you level up! You'll be surprised how much utility they have, even if some skills don't necessarily show up in builds shared on meta build sites for endgame content.

    Great video! Thank you, I wish this video would existed when i started early this year. I would add, never buy storage tabs, bank or character, buy a new character instead. With a new character discover all the major cities, you will get to level 10 in no time and you will learn where everything is in cities. Do the diving achievement asap, you will unlock many waypoints and you can fast travel to any zone to do the important events. Also do any event you can. Do dailies and have all your unused character parked near good chests so you can farm them every day. Start PoF first after reaching lvl 80 to unlock the first 3 mounts, then work on your gliding. Never skip jumping puzzles, don't be lazy using mesmers on site, you will regret it later when you realize you suck at jumping, the entire game is based on jumping and dodging.

      A lot of that stuff is actually covered in my daily gold making and gemstore items videos! Definitely detouring for every event you can is a good one.

    Great tips. These address the major concerns that players would have when starting out. There's obviously more to the game, but these will get players through the early game and the wiki command to help themselves is so good

    Another thing you didn't mention, but that will be important to a LOT of players - set up Action Camera hotkey as soon as you launch the game. Me and my friend installed the free version like 3 years ago and we only got as far as starting town because both of us hated the default camera mode, but couldn't figure out how to make the camera "normal". I tried the game again a few years later with all the settings set up to my liking, but the first impression is the most important one.

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад

      I don't know if I'd describe action camera as "normal" unless you're an fps-only player, but that's a fair point. Personal preference settings are important.

    Great tip on the setting changes, I'll probably make them and a few others when I play on steam launch. Being able to change your build for free is also something I was wondering about as being locked in a build once you use your points can force you to have to make a new character if you choose wrong

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +1

      Yeah, the trait unlock order thing probably seems odd to include for some of the older players that might watch this video, but a lot of other games have very steep penalties for specing the wrong way so it's come up several times when I've talked to new players. For most other games, you either have to wait until hyper late game to fix it, pay large amounts of gold to reset them, or make a new character and fix it.

    Started playing 3 weeks ago and I'm attempting to do the Path of Fire expansion right now. I'm finding it extremely difficult. I guess I'm still figuring out how to get the best gear in the game right now. It felt like hitting a brick wall to get to level 80 and have zero ascended (pink) gear.

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +5

      The difference between exotic and ascended is quite small. The more important thing is to find a decent build for whatever it is you're doing. If you get the gear for that build and it's exotic, you'll do just fine.

      @jcm2606 Год назад +3

      Will also add that surviving in expansion/DLC content is much more about your gameplay rather than your build, especially if you're on a squishier class like a Thief, Mesmer or Elementalist. You want to make sure you're making full use of your dodges, your evades, your blocks, your project reflects, your condition cleanses, your heals, etc. Would be a good idea to just look over all the skills that you've got equipped so you know where all of your defensive tools are to not cause a panic in combat. Might also be a good idea to look into more defensive gear such as Marauder (for power DPS) or Trailblazer (for condition DPS) to pad out your health/toughness a bit if you feel like your health is just evaporating too quickly to be able to react.
