I have to say that I have had the game/account for 6 years, but for some reason I never gave the game a chance, I only got deeper into the game a few days ago. I have to say that this is the best thing that I "discovered", I can't stop playing and there is so much. . . Definitely the best mmo so far. Old veteran of WoW even after GW2 I can't play those slow outdated games anymore

The MOST IMPORTANT, recently added, and may require the latest expansion (not sure), is the Wizard's Vault. Currently, you can spend only 1800 points to get an Ascended Weapon + 3 pieces of Ascended Armor. SUPEREASY to get some of the best equipments in the game.
Btw, though this is a great video, I don't agree with everything here. For example, I recommend to do the story lines as quickly as possible, since they unlock quite a lot of goodies or even essentials. And if you like the game, get all the expansions and Living Worlds asap.

One of the things i find great about and sometimes but rarely enrages me is the fact that after years of playing you will still be able to find things you can do even in content you allready played through lots of time.
The Treasure Hunter achievement being the one achievement that sometimes enrages me because the drop chance of most and particularly the most expensive items is very low... hence the value of such items like that one amulett or sam or rhendaks signet ring.
That is why i do from time to time rewatch and search for tips and tricks or "new player" content as such we have here... because let's face it peepawz... you just need to go through all the crafting recipes to know you're in for a fun "learning" experience... not to mention all the mostly unknown mystic forge recipes... like the bulk of armor recipes many ... even vet players don't know about

I am one of the guilty - if you're down, I'll revive you; if you're dead, I'll leave you laying there and fight over your corpse. Just WP away and jump back in.

The best tips for new players are talking to people and trying different things. Guys, do what you enjoy and find friends/guild who will do it with you. You don't necessarily have to make the most optimal gold farm, if you don't enjoy it, it can cause you to burn out and stop playing this amazing game because then it just becomes a grind. Unless you are grind enjoyer, then go and farm that juicy gold.
    Thanks Teapot another great video!

Sadly I have 4 lvl 80's and coming back I have lost where I am, because I been gone for over 2+ years, and lets face it this game is NOT returning player friendly, yes people will help you but would you take me into Fractals never seen one?? When you take me on a raid knowing I never been there, or maybe farming legendary gear would you take me never knowing where to start? Yes it sounds like please hold my hand but isn't asking questions the very thing of holding hands to begin with.

    • @epto
      @epto Год назад

@@jasons718 I came back to the game after 8 years. 1 year later and I'm clearing strikes, raids and T4 fractals. I even managed to clear some CMs.
Find a training group for Strike/Raid on LFG or join a guild. There are so many guild doing training runs every week for complete beginners. Tier 1 fractals (0-25) are for complete beginners, that does not even require you to have ascended gear, go for that and learn there.
If you don't have guild, LFG is your friend, just join a group and tell them you are new, they will either kick you or tell you what to do.
I was also joining training groups at the beginning, and majority of the commanders were super friendly, because they expect you to suck at the game.
Also, watch MightyTeapots zero to hero here on youtube, that will teach you a lot ;)

I disagree with not completing hearts... I would advice to complete 100% of each map as you go. After completing 100% of a map (quests, vistas, points of interested, hero points and waypoints) you will unlock rewards, including dyes and transmutable charges to customise your character's appearance. Moreover later on if you want to craft a first generation legendary weapon you will need the gift of exploration, which will be given to you when you complete 100% of all the maps. If would make it more smooth to complete maps every now and then and have that ingredient ready to go than to grind hard later on to get a legendary weapon. Exploration is one of the greatest features of gw2

Regarding Renown Hearts: Don't completely ignore them. There are certain items in later parts of the game that you can only buy from Renown Heart-locked merchants. A lot of map events take place within the Renown Hearts area so if you see an event symbol next to a renown heart try to do the event - you'll get to complete the event and the renown heart progress bar at the same time.

Great video! Started playing roughly two and a half weeks ago and just got my first character to lvl80. I took my time and just engaged in everything I saw while going through the different maps. Doing it that way was very enjoyable for me and a little confusing at the same time because in every other mmo I tried out or played a while I very much had the urge to rush and I can't really tell why...
Maybe GW2 just hit different because being in the open world is way more fun than in other games. Well, it seems like all I did was only the beginning of my GW2 journey... there's so much to do and I haven't really figured out where to start. It's great. Here are my own 2 tips.
Reading revisions! Skills in gw2 are a bit complicated if you are a new player. You don't have to remember the whole skill just what does in general but you should go back and read again at different times of your journey and reevaluate the information. You will often find skills that you previously thought useless to be much Much better, and skills that initially sounded good to be useless. Others may have components that you missed or forgot or new syngergies that you didnt know/understand before like combo fields or only doing condition damage when you have a power build.
The other important information is atttributes or stats. They are important in almost everything, from foods to gear to skills and traits. Understanding what each attribute is and does is actually really simple but infinitly important. Trust me on this one.

    • @EvilMrElmo
      @EvilMrElmo Год назад

honestly, both of these tips could be applied to anny mmo.. people are really bad about not actually reading skill tooltips in pretty much any mmo imo. and if you dont understand basic attributes.... then its pretty much garanteed youre going to suck ass..

I'm a returning player(played at launch then left till a couple months ago) and this video was very helpful! Two things I still can't wrap my head around tho are 1. the absurd amount of items you get from login, quests, events and so on(a lot of those present stuff to choose from and I store them in the bank because I don't know which to pick atm and the bank is now full) 2. dungeons
I'm levelling a toon from start despite having the insta 80 tomes, and I'm almost level 70, and while leveling I got the dungeons invitations in the mail as I was progressing but they say something confusing like that you first have to do them "In story mode"(how?) and then you can just do them again. I thought "in story mode" meant I could do them alone but even the first one, which was the Ascalonian Catacombs if I'm not mistaken, was too hard.
Any suggestion about these two things?

  • @Ham68229
    @Ham68229 Год назад +3

You can actually level up just by crafting as well. The best thing that anyone can do is, start crafting. Teaches you what goes together and how it goes together. Plus, if you don't like the gear you crafted, salvage it for materials and make something different. I think this is severely overlooked in game. People tend to buy gear, armor, weapons from the trading post, when in fact, they should be crafting it. Believe it or not, GW2efficiency helps with this as well. Relying on the RNG gods to give you an ascended piece from a drop is futile, since it's not a 100% guarantee you'll get such a drop each time.
I do complete the hearts for each map for the reason, you won't get map completion without those hearts being done. Hence 100% map completion won't happen. Getting into a good helpful guild is also a big plus. Hardstuck is a good one, right Teapot?! :P
Best tip of all, never let the game "overwhelm" you and it will at times. Take a break, ask questions, learn and just enjoy the game. Cheers :)

I bought the game 2 years and I didn't really play, now I tried again and it's been nice so far. I was kind of bored farming mobs only at some point and finished "heart quests" in a zone that's my level and got lazy to search an other zone that's around my level.
I love the heart quests tbh. But the only thing that is a bit hard to master for me, is the navigation between zones (especially following the wiki).
Even if you discover a zone you won't see immediately all the name of the subzones. Also it's kind of hard to know the outlines of a specific zone.
Beside that, I love everything in the game so far.
So now that I know about level scaling, I'm gonna finish all the heart quests in every zone.

If you don't care about the specifics and want to learn general roles (boon dps, healers, pure DPS), it might help to ask around for easier high end builds. For example, Power Soulbeast (a ranger elite specialization) is considered to be quite easy to learn, and Druid (another ranger espec) is considered to be both good and pretty easy to learn (although in raids you become the toolbelt/mechanic monkey player).

you said doing hearts isnt needed, you don't unlock something or get something needed. But I heard that you get legendary materials or something that you would need, no?

    • @MightyTeapot

That's correct, hearts are needed for map completion which grants legendary materials. However legendaries are optional and you can simply buy them for gold if you really want to avoid hearts.

I quite recently(179 days ago according to /age) started to play, while I intentionally try to limit myself to roughly doing things in order(in terms of expansions) I've yet to get bored of anything. Sure the personal story for the third time is a bit of a drag, but just doing something else for a bit and not actually feeling like I'm losing "progress" is great. To my mind the sheer amount of ways to progress is the best thing about gw2.

very nice guide, i remember doing so well in gw1, making builds and all, and on the surface level i said this should be a breeze, but there are so many nuances in gw2. i was like its a frickin collage coarse. so i tell people study one thing at a time. it will make it so easy. a guide like this cuts through alot of the learning curve.. ind i can say, to this day i forget to change my armor and build to the environment, then im like due,, after Dyeing (sp?) thank you mighty teapot

My biggest mistake, i think, is not remapping my buttons. I never looked at suggested templates so ive been clicking on the class abilities the entire time. I went through two playthroughs, a sylvari guardian playing the long way from 1-80 and then Filiman Tarlock for Path Of Fire. Ive since remapped and its hard to develop new reflexes and muscle memory when you spent like 30+ hours in default controls. Thats like swapping from controller to mouse and keyboard in an online fps game

My best advice for newer players who are struggling with the game is that success in this game when it comes to combat is reliant on your knowledge of enemy abilities and attack animations.
You could have a perfect build and set of gear, but if you don’t know what enemy attacks do, or when to dodge, or when they need to be interrupted, you may just be killed and not know why.
There are tons of enemies in this game and a lot of them are challenging until you know how to fight them, so the best advice I can give is just don’t be afraid to die and keep trying. Learn the enemies, and you will start to succeed.

I'm not sure theres ever been an individual player who's ever done more for an MMO than you have for GW2 Teapot.
Your videos helped get me back into the game (was a typical "played it pre expansion, enjoyed it but lack of endgame = quit" player) and I enjoying it so much.
Even got some of my WoW raider buddies to come along, and things are clicking so much for us. Your site helped us understand the psuedo trinity of GW2 with offensive / heal supports so we have everything covered as a group...I think.
Im on a P Quick Herald, also gonna put together a heal set. We've got a H Alac Druid, Spellbreaker DPS, Weaver DPS and Reaper DPS. I'm sure it's far from perfect, but we have the basics covered thanks to your content so thank you (and the community as a whole)!

DON'T USE TOMES OF KNOWLEDGE BEFORE LEVEL 80!
Tomes of knowledge will give you spirit shards at level 80, with a new account you will need spirit shards for Anthology of Heroes for stat swapping Ascended gear and Augur's Stone for making Lesser or normal vision crystals which you need to make Ascended gear. You CANNOT pay your way out of this mistake, getting these materials will require you to grind XP and do dailies.
If you want to boost, use a crafting guide and level any other than Cooking and Jewelcrafting to 500 which will get you to level 40, then do the Adventure Guide. Doing one part of it will easily get you levels and when you complete a Volume of the Adventure guide you gain 5 levels.
DON'T BUY KEYS OR TRANSMUTATION CHARGES
Make a level 1 human guardian with Commoner as your background.
Get to level 10, by completing every single city other than Lions Arch, you will have a waypoint unlocked near each city just go to the waypoint, go into the city and start unlocking everything. This will get you 5 Transmutation charges.
Do the story until you get the key, you can only do this once a week.
If you need more transmutation charges, make a Sylvari Ranger, when you get to the bridge stand at the edge and hold "1" to kill everything, the mobs won't attack you so it's easy to kill them, on the boss go to the far right tree trunk, press "1" and auto attack the boss, it can't kill you. Do the Sylvari city map, get the Transmutation charge, delete your Sylvari Ranger and do it all over again. It's unlimited so you can easily save yourself some money doing this, PvP and WvW also give you a lot but if you don't enjoy PvP and WvW this the easiest way to do it.

My main problem with leaving gw2 about 4 times already it's because I have no idea what to do next. I cleared world content avaliable, cleared the story, and then I have no idea how to start doing dungeons or raids. People in chat usually answer memes and don't help much, probably thinking I'm trolling or something, while I'm just clearly confused about what I should do to progress in pve.
At least pvp is understandable, you just go and fight...

    • @jcm2606

If you're interested in doing fractals then this guide should help: docs.google.com/document/d/16bt-vFeeLAeEsaoz72bkc4ZODsudIQ2hiQdvSnFYLtw/edit It's quite outdated so build information won't be quite up to date, but anything about fractals themselves should still be good. Dungeons, raids and strikes are a bit trickier to learn since they're a lot more free-form, so it'd probably be best to just do some research on what you can get from each dungeon/raid/strike and maybe join an endgame community/guild that focuses on running that sort of content. Best advice I can give you though would be to just keep doing _something_ each time you log in. _Everything_ in GW2 will progress your account in some way, whether it be endgame content, open world PvE, PvP, WvW, crafting, fishing, or even achievements. You have numerous ways to earn exotic and ascended gear, and there's a few different ways to get legendary gear (at least armour and weapons) that you can really just do whatever.
