    Nice work Josh and very cool way to get more dynamic range with the best quality possible. That camera is a beast and Canon is making a run for some serious market share ;)

    Keen to watch this, you can't find these types of tests anywhere. Would be interested in canon cinema camera camera sharpening settings too (another knowledge black hole)

    Am I seeing things or at exactly 2:50 of this video, is the small top LCD displaying colors? Perhaps this is a reflection. I've looked through the menu and can't locate anything that looks like a setting for the top LCD. Enjoying the videos, Josh. All the best.

    Hi Josh,
    I was going to purchase the R5C but in UK is essentially impossible to find, out of stock everywhere with extended lead times (3-6 months).
    The EOS R (2018) I own is feeling limited as I had to use a focal reducer (1080p60 has the black circle and movie cropping lower even more the quality) and I couldn't shoot anything higher than 30fps in 4K. Also the CLOG is quite limited and contrasty itself. Although it was quite interesting editing and grading it in Davinci Resolve!
    I had in mind to purchase the R5C althoug I ended purchasing the Lumix S5, with a no brainer deal, on Amazon. 1200£ with the kit 20-60 lens. It has IBIS which is a feature I was looking since long time in camera.
    I have all prime lenses from Canon L series even though the rig I use it's far from being light, some smooth movement are quite difficult handheld, and I don't want to use always a gimbal.
    It has MicroHDMI but the R5C has it too, which made me a bit quite upset. I can't understand why they put a MicroHDMI on a hybrid cinema camera that costs 4500$.
    If you shoot with external recorder it's gonna be a problem. Luckily I'm trying to prevent any issue, hopefully, using a HDMI clamp on the cage. Rock solid!
    I've adapted my lenses on the S5 with a Viltrox active adapter. I'm not shooting anything commercially or paid, for now it's just personal projects and portfolio.
    I feel at some point of the year I'll the sell S5 and the EOS R and I will go back to Canon for videos with just one hybrid camera, which I have to be honest, I consider the R5C the perfect camera for hybrid shooters.
    I will continue watching your videos with interest and curiosity, I really appreciate your tests, explanations and the edit/concept of your videos.
    Hopefully I'll ill get the R5C one day.
    Keep going! Thanks

    I did a similar but much less polished video on my channel testing the noise reduction. I think it's a bit easier to tell the difference in the side by side shots that I did. Gerald's settings seem pretty good. They give you a bit more noise reduction than auto but don't destroy the image.

  • @DavidKfilmmaker
    @DavidKfilmmaker 2 года назад +1

    I wound imagine applying noise reduction to a very sharp image would be a good trade off. For this camera not something like c70 which starts with a softer image already. No?

  • @dvdaltizer

    how about the C70? do you know anything about noise reduction on that camera?

    Does this custom denoising help while shooting in RAW LT? Or will RAW settings override these custom settings?

    Thanks for this video. I will set up a user8 for helping with the noise. I have to shoot an event both outside and inside. The editor does not color correct so what setting should I use besides CLog3? Can I adjust for the other settings besides CLog in my user8. Right now I see a ton of noise shooting inside the house with just room lights on.

    Great stuff. I'm going to do some tests as well. Maybe the ghosting will be more prominent in dark/noisy situations with movement.

    Hey Josh, by any chance you found out from Canon or anyone about the fan noise rattling when holding and moving it the camera up and down? I just got my R5C today and notice this fan noise, which you mentioned in one of your videos reviewing it. Hopefully it is not an issue… thanks! 😊

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 года назад +1

      I have heard from other people that are hearing that issue as well. Mine doesn't seem to be getting any worse. The person at Canon never called me back even though he said he would so I'm not sure what the deal is.

    Great job! I have watched all your videos, but I still have the big doubt that many of us have, and I really need your help to guide me between Canon R5c, C70 or Sony FX3 , I don't need photo, I only shoot documentary by myself, I only need 4k and XLR, I only have money to buy a camera, really which one do you recommend me to put my money? Thanks Josh for all you do!

    • @Josh_Sattin

      Hey there! Thanks for the comment and checking out my videos. There are a lot of options out there for 4K and XLR. I will be doing videos about the R5C vs FX3 and R5C vs C70 soon.

    • @alexmainwaring
      @alexmainwaring 2 года назад

      Sounds like C70 might be a good choice for you. Only get the R5C if you need high quality photos as well.

    can we shoot in Clog2? raw is in clog2 which is better, isn't it?

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 года назад +1

      The Canon R5C does not shoot in Clog2, only Clog3. If you shoot in raw your editor will interpret it as Clog2.

    Honestly, Spatial isn't even that bad for this camera. It's REALLY sharp. Even when you turn the sharpness way done.

  • @lifeofdang92
    @lifeofdang92 2 года назад

    Hey Josh. I just got the R5C here. When I have my Sony, I always turn the sharpness to lowest as possible, do you recommend to do so on Canon R5C? Also the base ISO, do I need to switch to 3200 setting to start to use it? or just crank it up and it automatic kick in the 2nd base iso like A7S3 or FX3?

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 года назад

      Sharpness is all personal preference. I would experiment with it and see what you like. The lenses you use will vary a lot too. There is a setting in there to switch which base you are using. There is also a setting to automatically switch so when you get to 3200 it will switch to the high one.

    • @lifeofdang92
      @lifeofdang92 2 года назад

      @@Josh_Sattin it has 3 option, 800,3200 and nothing. So leave at nothing to let it switch automatically?

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 года назад +1

      @@lifeofdang92 Unfortunately I don't have the camera anymore to check for you. I remember there being an automatically select option. See page 77 of the manual: gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/5/0300043545/02/eosr5c-aug3-video-en.pdf
