you speak really clear and content is consise. no extra fluff. Respect and thanks from new zealand.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching!
Josh, Truly you're a blessing to those that you know and those you'll never meet and thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for showing us how to actually put everything together‼ Saw plenty videos explaining how it all works, but skipped that part 👏🏽
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much! I've watched countless vids re battery solutions and NO one but YOU has shown how it is all put together, which is really what is needed to quickly learn.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I like people that find solutions to issues to make stuff work for them. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Man I never realized the SmallRig bottom part of the cage was arca Swiss plate mount 12:30 😂
Thank you so much ❤ had to pause the video to say thank you
Learning a bunch now back to watching
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
I'm thinking of picking up the R5C, this was super helpful. Thanks a bunch, Josh!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Did you pick it up? I’m thinking about it too, so I’m looking for real user reviews
This is a very nice video showing compact options with the R5C. This convinced me more about getting this camera, especially for having the ability to shoot great pictures. It is a very good option for documentary and even for making short films with this setup you just shown. You just add a wireless go and a separate sound system, like a Zoom H5/H6 with a boom and a decent shotgun microphone with a timecode generator and you are good to go! Thanks for the follow up!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
@@Josh_Sattin have you ever used a cage system with the Tascam in the hot shoe? I use wireless mics that are xlr that would need the tascam.
just got my r5c and you helped me a lot with fixing the battery problem. thank you.
You're welcome. Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching!
With my R5C, I get around 8 hours of recording time with the Anker 87w power bank. With 25600 mah, It works quite well, lasting about 2 1/2 times longer then average v mount batteries. However, it's less convenient to to mount on a rig.
Sweet! 8 hours of 4K 60? Or HD?
whats your voltage?
@@pr1sm55 more or less, mostly in 4k 24p however, 60 fps has about the same amount of time. The record time with the Anker battery will differ when shooting in 4k 120 and 8k 24-60.
@@natemassar I'm not sure actually, I just look at the watts.
My rig is built around the Anker battery, using the SmallRig power bank holder. Works like a charm, it’s low profile, and balanced as it lays flat. I even have a 2nd Anker battery, using the same power bank holder, attached to my RSI2. Works all day (wedding videographer ~8-10h).
I really appreciate your videos. They have been a huge help for me. I feel like you're going to be a staple of creator community. Thanks again
You are very welcome. Thank you for the kind words!
thank you so much for this! I bought a R5C but didn't have the time to buy the cage and stuff yet. Now I got an upcoming job and delivery dates for cages are 3-4 weeks... it's just a small job but I didn't even think to use the battery grip, which I own for the R5 cause I didn't think it would fit. Will do the job until the rest arrives. Had a production in July with the R5C and had to switch the normal batteries every 15min which was getting really tricky in the end of the day because the charging didn't keep up with the camera running out of battery.
The set up at the end is perfect and essential. so hot
Great video! Thank you. This is exactly how I build cameras. Smallest form factor as possible. Some people miss the point of a small camera by making a large rig. Good job
just wanted to say thanks. I went with your set up and love it! changed up a few things for the rig with quick release and swivel bracket to make for easy in and out for screen but thanks for all your advice. hope to get some new content on my channel soon!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I've just bought a R5C, your advice is great, thanks for sharing
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
haha my kit exactly lol So compact and great! Also connect an ANKER battery to the V mount FXLION battery so I have zero power problems all day filming
Super helpful video, Josh. thanks for sharing the detailed explanations and showing exactly how you set it up for each scenario. Go-to for practical R5 C content!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
It makes sense why people choose the C70 over the R5/C. Once you rig it up to be useful it ends up costing the same as the C70. The difference comes down to built in ND vs full frame sensor.
And what is the best option?
And if you want to be able to take photos..
Built in Nd Filter + better dynamic range + built in audio Equipment VS better autofocus + full frame + Photos
Best solution ever!!!
Exactly the info I needed. Thank you :-)
You're welcome. Glad the video was helpful for you. Thanks for watching!
I have the EXACT same setup and it works perfect
Nice!
You have very good suggestions. Congratulations. I was going to buy fx30, I researched a lot. I decided to give up apsc and switch to fullframe. I was between A1 and Rc5. I chose to buy canon rc5. I watched your videos as well. If you prepare a video about the video shooting modes of canon cr5, people can benefit. Like what values are the fullframe equivalent of 4k. A new update is coming in June. It seems to me that Canon will close the gap. Good news for those who have canon rc5. Greetings from Turkey.❤❤❤🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🌹🌹
Love this build! Pretty awesome run and gun setup. I'm building this out for sure.
I really enjoyed watching this. Learnt alot, thank you.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I may just utilize this exact setup. Thank you. Will use your links if so
Just did the above. Cheers
Thanks! Great run down of options. Clears up confusion on my end about shore powering the rig, USB C will work great for me. Just got an R5 C for some VR work, looking forward to it!
Also, didn't know about the mount on the base of the Smallrig cage, that's perfect for my Ronin. Glad I just like Smallrig and went with that cage, ha ha. I have the Tilta Ring for the Ronin which has USB power ports as well.
You're welcome. Glad the video was helpful and thanks for watching!
Returned mine. Rigging it up should be optional not mandatory.
amazing stuff my dude, used your links to cop a few things 👌
Thanks Sam! I appreciate you checking out the video and using the links.
The statistic I researched with batteries is cost per watt-hour. The Canon batteries, even the third party types, cost around $3.64 per watt-hour ( $/Wh ). The V mount batteries I found were cheaper but still in the $2 / Wh range. The bulk AA size batteries from battery sellers came in at about $1/Wh.
The lowest cost batteries are the “power bank” type batteries - batteries designed to recharge an iPhone or laptop. I found on Amazon a HenHot battery at $0.65 / Wh. And there are cheaper ones AND the competition is very stiff and so the price is plummeting rather aggressively. I have no doubts that in 6 months there will be bigger, better, and cheaper batteries being offered. They are also have way more energy. Many in the 100 Wh range and some as high as 200 Wh range.
There are some catches. Most batteries advertise on Amazon only their mAh (milliamp hours) which is somewhat useless. But it seems that this is at 3.3 volts so you can take the stated mAh and multiple by 3.3 to get the mWh - then divide by 1000 to get watt-hours. Some brands advertise Wh on the web site so a little digging will produce better numbers.
The other thing to watch out for is USB-C PD comes in several different flavors. (Technically, different output voltage capabilities.). The R5C requires just under 20 watts in the 8K 60p mode (with the lenses I’ve tested). Be sure to check that the power bank can deliver this type of power *from* *a* *single* *port*. Many of them say that they have four ports and so they can deliver some astounding amount of power but they can’t deliver that power out a single port. As usually with Chinese consumer products on Amazon, there is a TON of advertising hype so please read and research AND… don’t be ashamed to just send the crap that doesn’t work back to Amazon. It is what they signed up for by allowing the vague descriptions in the first place.
Now… mounting it is going to be more challenging. I’m using just some Velcro straps right now. Not pretty but I consider it still a work in progress.
Hows the Power pack working now? Im interested in going that route but like you said mounting might be tricky
@@sundersquare Well... it is working for me but I'm not sure that counts for much. I use it for things like time lapse. On my R5C, I have the battery grip which holds two batteries. Generally that is enough power for what I'm doing. I'm mostly VERY idle right now (for the past 6 or more months) due to various personal reasons (not medical). I think I'm going to be able to get out and be more active at the first of 2023.
Hyperjuice finally released their product. It looks super sweet but it is now $250 for a 100Wh which brings it in as one of the most expensive options. The neat features are that it tells you a lot of information on its display. I've resisted buying one so far. It ISN'T a good deal but it hits a lot of my geek buttons. They also have a four port USB-C charger that seems competitively priced. I'm trying to wait until I have a real need before buying more toys.
Great video Man! and that's a beast setup!!!
Thanks!
I would love to see a good rig based on vertical or "reel" style content!
I used this setup most of last year for vertical real estate videos: ruclips.net/video/031SZG7tjqk/видео.html
Amazing .. So simply put and very helpful.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Your videos are amazing... I love it
Thank you so much!
Thanks for making this video. It was helpful.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I use the Anton Bauer Titon kit. Works great also
Nice presentation. I would like to ask you for a recommendation for Remote audio transmitter / receiver for shooting a "classroom-like" presentation, where the presenter is walking and a Mic on him. Possibly with 2 Mic in case another supporting presenter is on the set as well. Camera on tripod at the back of the room using battery grip for a presentation that's less than 2 hours long. TIA.
Nice setup. Thanks for the clear walkthrough 👍🏼
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Dude love your videos, really helped me out. Thank you so much!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Love the rig setup.
Thank you!
I shoot weddings so is that here a cage that allows the use of the Tascam XLR inputs on the 5RC?
Have you noticed that the r5c once rigged out with the Nano One wont turn back on once if you power off the camera from video mode? I have to unplug the Nano One, eject the internal lp-e6 (wont turn on with nano one unless theres an lp-e6) and then boot everything back up again.
Hey Josh this video and other videos on shooting cinematic video are super informative and helpful. Just a question …are you planning to do a video on camera monitors or make a recommendation ?
Glad the videos are helpful for you. I don't currently have any plans to review monitors. I do recommend Small HD if you have the budget for them. I have the Cine 5 and 702 Touch. Both are excellent.
No setup with the 45w PD power bank? Heads ppl have had lots of success with that
this awesome, thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Almost the same setup I am looking to do. I got a v-mount that has the USB C power in itself so you can use any battery, but likely to use a USB Power Bank as my main power source since you get more capacity for cheaper vs the v-mount batteries. Just need to figure out the best plate to attach the cage to my tripod quick and easy.
What mico to full HDMI do you use? I'm getting problems with mine cutting the input signal in and out.
Battery grip with 2 batteries plus the external battery 👍
Thanks for the great video! One major question: at around 11:40, you use a "basic arca swiss" screw you had from a previous project to attach the quick release to the base plate. What are the specs for that screw? I'm putting the rig together and have hit that roadblock. Thanks again! Your presentation style is great. Cheers!
Great video , well presented and subscribed mate !
Thank you so much!
What color paint do you have on the wall behind you?
could I get the link to video where you discuss the newer small rig v-mount plate and the small rig battery for the R5C
ruclips.net/video/BmCaiQ_RP1A/видео.html
What charger do you use for the V mount battery?
You, sir, are FN Rad. Subscribed.
Thank you so much!
Awesome ...just Awesome!😀
Got my eye on the tilta side handle that doubles as battery. Suppose to enable enough power for 8k 60 too. Under development I guess.
Thank you, very helpful.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I wonder how heavy the full build is?
Love this! Very helpful and informative, thank you for making this video. I was wondering if something like this rig would work for the R6?
You're welcome. Yes, this would work great on the R6. You would just need a different cage.
First you take Table then care all small parts, if any part missing you purchage another set?
is it hard to manually focus while shooting handheld with the rods underneath the lens?
Thank you. Appreciate the video.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great video, thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I tried to save money and get a PD USB battery instead. I could prob use a small rig battery holder and mount that to v mount plate. If I wanted to use the rods and mount the battery.
Thanks for this video one thing about this black mumba cage do you find on the right hand side the grip around the shutter button has some play in it as you squeeze the grip and take photos it almost like they needed to add a extra mount point for the right hand side top strap fixing on the camera body to prevent this play I find that after some time shooting it can loosen the cage
So I just came across your channel and I did subscribe. I'm new to cameras and now retired I'm looking to get into wildlife and landscape photography as well as video so after researching I was looking at the Canon r5c over the r5 due to the 30 minute video recording. Any way can you explain how the external battery is 14 volts but the cameras runs off its 7 volt battery. Or does the camera have a voltage range 7-14 volts built in. Thanks for your help and I will continue to follow your channel
Great vid! Thanks!🙏 Will be nice to see a gimbal minimal solution..
I would just use the cage and the internal battery on a gimbal.
@@Josh_Sattin Thanks a lot!
Amazing video here
Thanks!
Just a heads up, I had the same hot shoe setup and it wiggles. It easily comes loose and you won’t have a solid hold. Best to go with smallrigs nato setup.
Good call. Yes, a nato rail would definitely be more solid.
Hi Josh! How long does the r5c last with the atomos ninja v both plugged in to the vmount battery?
Can the battery power your ninja and camera at the same time?
Great film Josh - could you post links for everything you just showed us, like the Arca Swiss, rods, USB-C right-angle cable, etc because I don't want to miss anything out that I would need to connect everything up. Thanks in advance.
Thanks. There are links to everything in the description of the video.
@@Josh_Sattin Thanks so much!
Hi Josh. Have you had any issues with the cage rubbing paint off of your R5C?
does the r5c with battery grip fit on the rs2 gimbal?
Fantastic.
congratulations nice video!! Can you tell me which ninja you use, Thank you very much

I have a UHS2 memory card that's 300 megabits per second but when I set it to record on the R5C it says it's not compatible. Then when I press record it works... Lol ever run into this?
Thank you for this video. You mentioned that you can power camera and monitor from same battery? How do you do that ?
You're welcome. Power the camera via USB and the monitor using the DTAP port.
@@Josh_Sattin thank you
Good Stuff! Thanks man
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
How do you power the monitor while you re using the usb-c to provide the camera externly.

Getting a little hum in the audio around the small rig. It sounds like when I put a lav mic in the DJI Mic. I think u r using a shotgun mic though.
What minimalist bag would you recommend for this setup?
Hi josh,
I got a question: If you use this canon battery grip. Does it become an "extra battery" package, so you can run 8k 60fps with all the camera lens functions on?
Hey! I have a question: I hear everyone talk about batterylife in film-mode. However its a hybrid camera and I cant seem to find what the batterylife is if you are only in Photomode. thoughts?
I really don't do much photography. It should have similar battery life in photo mode to the Canon R5.
sir pls can canon R5c ring cage feets the R7 camara
Whats the code numer of that SmallRig monitor mount? It's sweet that you can adjust it with one hand.
There are links to all of the products in the description.
Obrigada pelo seu trabalho. Muito me ajudou.
Good Job. Could give me the exact number of smallrig cage because in Italy I cannot find it? Thanks
Does this setup works on a DJI RS3 pro?
You said the rods were 6" but on the website they only have 4 and 8"
I made this video a while ago. Unfortunately they might not have the same lengths anymore.
Hi! please tell me..the 4k is just crop sensor mode of full sensor? thanks!
You can shoot 4K in both the full frame and the S35 crop modes on the Canon R5C.
Hey Josh, can you mount the battery grip on a gimbal ?
this might be a dumb question, but do they make a rig that can fit the grip AND the external power? with the same type setup you're doing here?
amzn.to/3SQlMEQ
Great content! A question : is this setup compatible with the DJI RS3 Pro gimbal?
Thank you. Unfortunately I don't have a RS3 Pro. Since the cage has an arca swiss on the bottom it should hopefully work.
I really like your assembly. The idea of the compact battery installed behind the R5C is great and is much better than the power-bank attached with adhesive under the gimbal mount. With no monitor and no microphone (or maybe even a microphone) I hope your system is well digested by the DJI RS3 Pro! Thanks again from Italy!

🙏
You are making this video with a damn camera right now
Or you could Mount the vlock plate upside down and have chance to look at evf and don’t block the screen 😊 the only problem is that won’t sit flush on a table
Cool🎉
8 batteries plus the battery grip two hrs for every two batteries =8hrs for 4K 24..without adding a rig ..it’s between that or just buying a c70 and buying two Bp A30’s and speed booster
Awesome solution, but if we’re being honest after all that rigging and battery hassle why not just get a C70? Probably lighter too
Because C70 doesn't do photos
