I feel like The Callisto Protocol would've been better if they had Glory Kills, different kinds of melee weapons or maybe if the stun baton shocked the biophages, more energy/enemy types and full invincibility on the dodge mechanic.
If the doge was based more on timing (and also consitent) then they would have had something. Also making multiple enemies a matter of crowd control instead of an ever increasing queue for their turn in the QTE. The most fun I have with Dead Space is when it forces me to line up a careful shot while the space zombie is rapidly approaching and his friends are sneaking up behind me.
I feel like it would have been better if the dodge mechanic had an actual dodge frame, so the game wasn't so easy. But yeah, the lack of weapon variety made it extremely boring. It seems much more closely inspired by a game like The Last of Us than it is by Dead Space.

Okay, so I had just got to the Mining area when I got cornered by a Necromorph Slasher and ran out of ammo. The game turned into a boxing simulator soon after. No Stasis, no upgraded Plasma Cutter, just me, an ugly SOB and several haymakers.
@highlander918 how consistently does it drop them? I've only had a few instances where I've had to square up and I was only able to knock down 2 after maybe a handful of swings. On the other occasions I just switched to the force gun.
To be fair, the Hand Cannon's melee is just as strong as it's fire modes. That's how it was in 2, anyway. A real challenge is the plasma cutter melee only playthrough.

Finishing the game on "impossible" difficulty is the only achievement that is left for me to get. But sadly during the week I don't get to game much, that's why I couldn't finish the playthrough on it yet.
You can save multiple times on impossible mode and if you die you can quickly quit the game before the black death screen appears and just continue from last save kinda cheesy but it works
@dezpotizmOFheaven after getting the ripper, the game becomes a cakewalk. I was stressed too all hell with just the plasma Cutter. I'm currently on chapter 4 and have been exclusively using the pulse rifle for the grenades, and the ripper for close quarters. Also, the flamethrower alt firewall stun locks almost all enemies. Edit: the only section I'm stressed about rn are the twitchers (forget the ships name)
Callisto protocol lacked variety. The melee mechanic wasn't a bad take but maybe add more melee weapons; not to mention the other guns in game felt boring and lack luster. Each dead space weapon offers enjoyment when fully upgraded
Not accurate enough, you're actually killing enemies in a timely manner and might actually have fun. Each enemy should be annoyingly damage-spongey, and then the devs still decide to throw 3 of them at you at once and the restrictive and barebones "cinematic" melee system falls to pieces.

Callisto wasn't bad, but it was cliche and lacking at launch. It could've been better, could've been worse. Did I make a mistake buying the GameStop collectors edition of Callisto? Yes and no, I like the collector's package but the game itself was not deserving of it
Callisto Protocol got a raw deal because it’s actually a really good game with some of the best graphics on consoles to date. And got even better with it patches. I’m replaying now alongside the DS remake for my own comparisons and I’m just reminded that I love TCP, and how it’s more realistic and brutal than Dead Space.
