Wow, that is beautiful! I removed my circa 1982 original to house pre fab fireplace insert this summer. It was huge, took up an entire corner of a very small rectangular living room and blocked part of my lakefront view. Rented a demo hammer and took down the beautiful brick faux wall first. I did so because I have gas lines a few mere feet away from the real fire and chimney. Have been considering an electric insert. You did an incredible job.
This is what I need. Currently retiled my fireplace hardwire setup...just need to clean up inside to get it ready for insert
This was an awesome video. We have a wood burning fireplace. We have had trouble with wasps nest and cracks with water causing mildew inside the fireplace. Needless to say, we are over the fireplace and looking for ideas like this. This motivates me to change that old fireplace.
We love this fireplace! I got the one in this video as a demo from Dimplex. Well, my wife and I liked it so much, we bought one for our house! ruclips.net/video/V4DjiDojJGw/видео.html
P.S. I’m in the process of moving and already planning to buy another one for the next house.
Great idea !!!
Thanks
Perfect cozy little fireplace at a great price
Thanks 😊
BeaU’IFUL electric fireplace choice!👍🏼
Thanks. They love it!
Am new here, love your work Handy Dad
Thanks for the video. Me and husband are thinking of getting this for our family room old wood fireplace. How is the heat output? I'm in PA close to NJ and we would definitely want to use this as supplemental heat for the family room in the winter.
If you want serious heat, run a 240v line to it. The way I wired it to a normal plug, it’s just like an average space heater.
Thank you for this. Looks quite nice. We have a similar set up in our rental property and we have a problem. A lot of dust is coming in from the chimney as it is not sealed and/or cleaned. I would like to install something between the electric fireplace and opening it slots into. But don't know what. I came across fibre glass strips but they will be visible from the edges. Any suggestions?
Rock wool insulation
This looks awesome!
Is an electric insert as yours safe to put in a wood 2 x 4 enclosure?
Yes absolutely zero clearance. It only emits heat from the front vent just above the doors.
The tv should of been mounted a little more down looks a bit too high.
How loud is the exhaust fan for when you turn on the heat. Can you make a video demonstrating it!?
It is a variable speed fan that gets louder when you need a lot of heat to warm the room. Once it’s warm, it slows down.
You guys have been doing so many things to this house that my wife and I would like to eventually do to our house. This is one of this things and it looks great!
I have connections you can leverage if you want to crossover to DIY on your channel. 😉
@@handydadtv 😊I wish we could do a collab and have you come help teach me how to do some projects. 😉
Thank you for making helpful videos. One question, how did you seal the chimney from inside?
Thank you in advance.
We just made sure the flue was closed. The chimney is capped on the roof so no animals will get down.
One of the issues we’ve had with our traditional wood burning fireplace chimney is that it pulls warm air out of the room, even with the flue closed. Will the fireplace insert provide enough of an insulation gap to prevent this, or would it need to be stopped up prior to adding the insert, as the previous commenter inquired? Thank you for the helpful videos!
@Megan A - With an electric fireplace insert, you can stuff the chimney with insulation.
Thanks just bought a house with a similar fire place . Thanks
Congratulations on the new home!
Hi, I’m new here but what did u clean your fireplace with? Like the cleaning supplies and everything?!
Just a wire brush and vacuum.
What size is that unit and what log set is that also...I know it’s fresh cut...I guess you have to order them separately?
This is the 30” log. Yes, the fresh cut logs are ordered separately. All the model numbers are in the video description.
How would a person put electrical outlet inside the fireplace to not have cords run outside ? Just asking
You'd need to run a wire into the firebox from outside or from a basement. Typically done through the ash clean-out, if you have one. Otherwise, by drilling through the mortar between the bricks.
I want to make electric fireplace by myself how did the image display out ? What kind of glass will be good please can you tell me
You want to build one from scratch? That would be a challenge to say the least.
Did you close or seal the real fireplace? Is it recommended to permanently seal the real place if I want to change to electric fireplace?
No, we just left the flue closed. The chimney is capped so no rain gets in. No issues.
Is the black paint a specific type? one that resists heat?
They painted it with normal spray paint because they never intended to burn a fire. They originally expected to just fill it with candles and such. Then we got the opportunity to get a demo unit from Dimplex and ended up covering the paint anyway.
I need to change mine but not sure where to start
Start by deciding what you want. Use Pinterest for inspiration.
What I mean by it is I’m not really familiar with the measurements but my fire is 95 cm length and 85 width
Not sure if I need the 36 inches or 39 inches
You’re constrained by the width. 85cm is a little more than 33 inches. A 36” insert won’t fit. You need the 30” unit.
whoa! $1,750?!?! I was thinking I'd found the solution but OMG. That's insane!
Yeah not cheap
@@handydadtv Considering gas inserts are 5K+ as are chimney liners,
I'd call it a bargain
Where did you purchase the electric fireplace from
handydad.tv/dplx
Can you feel the heat? Or is it just for looks?
It has a heater that does a great job, but we have underfloor heating down there and don’t really need the fireplace heater.
@@handydadtv awesome!! I may do this. Just bought a house in this crazy market. 😆
You have guts! Congratulations!!
You have a good wife...mine does the same.
Lucky guy 👍🏻
What brand of fireplace insert did you use?
Details in description
@@handydadtv 0:32
@julianab60 That old thing was there when they bought the house.
Amazon reviews aren't as stellar for this. Many claim the heating is pretty weak and the unit is noisy. Thoughts?
Sorry can’t help. They don’t use the heat because they have underfloor heating in that room.
Where is the video removing the the first fireplace ??
We didn’t remove the fireplace. We removed the doors, cleaned it, painted it, and installed the electric fireplace insert.
Painting the brickwork is such a bad look, but those bricks were already covered with paint splotches so I don't know how they could have been cleaned. Changing the fireplace away from wood though...that was just sad. :'( Nothing beats the smell and coziness of a real wood fire.
I know but wood fireplaces are extremely inefficient, dirty and dangerous. Nothing here is permanent anyway.
Seems a little odd as you have fully burnt embers at the bottom and not a touch of flame or rather not being burnt on the logs. Yes it could be worked out with creativity but I'm sure for what one of these costs it should have been a consideration in the designing stages. Just my thoughts on this fire place.
Thanks for your feedback. I did a more in-depth review of this fireplace here: ruclips.net/video/V4DjiDojJGw/видео.html.
I used the birch log set in mine and I agree with you that the ember bed doesn’t really go with either of the accessory logs. You could easily disconnect the LED strip while changing the log, if you think that would look better.
Do they have an option so you don't have those ugly butt bricks showing on the inside?
Yes they have different backgrounds.
😅
👍🏻

I think they’re awesome
Why?
what's the dimplex cost to us mere mortals?
I try not to mention prices because everything changes. Best to look it up.
