It made me want to cry. Plus all the beautiful happiness all around not just him and mom but of the kids and wife (I'm assuming). Great job. Beautiful job.
Such a special gift for your mom. I know that she will treasure it always 1) because it's beautiful and 2) her son made it for her. I know your mom must be very very proud of all you do. It's so sweet that you do things for your parents. You're a good son!
Stone looks great. I would replace the tv mount with a mantel mount to bring the tv down over the fireplace so the viewing angle is better and can be easily moved back above the mantle afterwards.
Looks amazing, for me personally though I would not like my tv mounted that high, so when lounging on the couch I have too look up, also to get the best colour and contrast you are supposed too have your middle of the screen in your eye line view. Never the less a great present and it looks awesome good job.
Great build and I love that you did it for your parents. I hope my kids are so thoughtful. For those looking here, I would suggest for the corners they buy panels that have corner pieces. And I would suggest running a chalk line from the bottom to make sure the stone is installed level. Also, would probably use cement backboard because it's less expensive and has better adhesion.
I am not a pro, but a suggestion for anyone attempting this build, use cement backer board or wonder board instead of particle board, and always use a cement thin set that is rated to hold the tile or in this case, the stack stone you are using.
Yeah unless you're installing this in a wet place, like your bathroom, cement backer boards aren't even close to being necessary. Good thing you're not a pro...
@@zimvader25 My SUGGESTION of cement board or wonder board may be over kill but its safe. I see you didn't comment on using a thin set that is rated for the stone or tile that is being installed so i guess thats how you would do it. Good thing ur not a pro either.
A suggestion for anyone mounting a TV on a wall. A TV is not art work so don’t hang it high. Ideally it should be at a height where your eyes are at the midpoint of the screen when you’re sitting down.
Couldn't agree more. It's a fad, and in a few years people will start wondering why they have neck problems, and hopefully the fad will die out, much like sliding barn doors. :)
I hardly ever watch a full video this long! its 1:48am and I have watched 3 of your videos! Just found your channel and I love, love your work! Keep it up! 🥰
A lot of people have mentioned it and we have been using it for over 6 months now with no complaints. We are a tall family though so maybe that’s why 🤷♂️
Great video - love that you left the part in where the piece fell off the wall! One comment: I would be wearing safety glasses when using a wet saw myself. Subscribed!
I felt very optimistic actually, thanks for sharing your mom a little of your great talent and gift, it's wonderful to have a son like you caring for his family and parents. I'm really admired by you and your great job .. Keep up I'm really enjoying watching your videos and giving you my full support 🙏❤😊
Your video was on my home feed today. I've wanted to do something similar in my family room. Thank you for posting your project. I'd love to find a person to build this for me and I can use your project as a guide and inspiration. My husband and I are handy but not that ambitious so hiring it out sounds like a better idea. Love how it turned out.
Really nice and great gift, but just one very critical mention for anyone wanting to do something like this: be careful with the height of the TV. This TV, while beautiful, is technically too high and would make you have to look up the whole time watching, ending up being uncomfortable for longer periods. Just think of sitting in the front row of a movie theater and that feeling of looking up all he time. It's good for show, but not for watching TV. Hate to be critical or rain on the parade, but it's a very common mistake people make when building these, and I hope to help others from making it. TV stands are made a certain height for a reason. If it's your main place for watching TV or movies, start with putting the TV at the proper height, Google it, and then build around it from there. If it's not your main place, and it's mainly for show, have at it, because it is pretty.
As someone who does this sort of thing professionally, I agree. The TV center line should be just slightly above your eye level when sitting. Anything higher becomes uncomfortable. Somewhere around 54" to center is a good starting point for a living room, 60" to center for a bedroom. It's a good place for art, not a TV.
DREW!!....amazing job my friend. Thank you for being an awesome son, having the space, tools, knowledge and passion for building this. Most of all, thank you for taking us all on that journey....may MY mom never see this....hahahahaha
looks really good!! one thing i'd say for those who would want to make one of these would be to leave more space without bricks where the tv bracket is. why? because each year the holes behind the tv for the mount will change positions and you may need to reposition your bracket. i worked on tv installs for a few years and i had to repositions so many brackets some as much as 1ft and then the bricks are in the way and you gotta break it and stuff. so maybe leave a bigger gap just so it'll be easier to mount your tv if you have to replace it.
I can’t help but notice that you barely even used a level, yet this build came out so perfect. Wow. Great work man. Your mom has got to be really proud of you for this. Amazing work
I've been getting recommendations for a few built-in fireplace/TV setups lately, this is the nicest one so far (or at least matches my taste). Well done!
U did a PHENOMENAL job on this - and to know that u POWERED THRU with COVID to meet ur deadline. Kudos to u my friend! I'm sure ur mom is going to enjoy this gem for a very long time to come. ❤
A homemade gift is better than anything store bought. It looks very nice. When you said you were feeling loopy, I thought it was because of the Bud Light lol. Glad you got over the Covid.
Nice job, looks beautiful. I’m surprised as little adhesive as you used it held. They do make some strong adhesives. One amateur mistake is the tv is to high. When you sit down it’s supposed to be the center of your eye.
Looks great! I'm wondering a few things: how high did you mount the fireplace off the ground? How much space is on either side of the fireplace to the edge of the build out?
This is the first video that I see and I must say you made that look so easy! AND it turned out great! It's great that you did that for your mom! 2 Thumbs up Drew!
The same mistake most people make when mounting a tv to a wall - far too high. A tv should be at eye level when you’re seated. Other than that it’s a nice job.
Was just about to post the same comment. Looks great but completely non-functional. If you want a TV and fire, put the electrical fire above the TV. Also heat from the fire will kill most TV's, particularly OLED TVs.
Same thing I was going to comment. Usually people in the US are forced to mount it this ridiculously high over fire places but he willingly made it that high.
This is a nice build you did here ! I might mistaken but did you hide junction boxes behind the stone wall ? I don't know about where you live in Canada, but in Quebec it is forbidden by the electrical code to hide junction boxes...
This looks amazing! My wife wants me to do something like this *cough exactly like this cough*. Question though, when you ran the lag bolts in for the TV Mount, were they ran into the new studs or only into the OBX sheathing? I was trying to pay more attention to that part but it was hard to tell.
I would definitely try to make sure it goes into studs and whole framework attached into the stud in existing wall as well. TV over 65 inch is very heavy...
You are amazing Builder you have a true gift and what a wonderful gift to give back to your mother for her birthday... God bless!🙏 and a Happy New Years to you and your family!🙏🎉✌🎆🎉
Good job kiddo ! How about covering the mantel ( and basically every soft part ) with a protective blanket till the job is completed on future projects! 👍🏻
Agreed, the skill, effort and intentions are good, but if someone changed the height of my TV like that, I wouldn’t be happy. Unwatchable. Can’t tell how big the room is, but maybe a Mantel Mount could solve for it, otherwise this is a downgrade for anyone that actually uses their TV
A year late, but here I go. When you put the TV at that height in such a small room you are creating ergonomic problems. Designers always think of design over physical well being.
I really don’t understand why all of a sudden everyone is putting their TVs close to the ceiling when they should be at eye level when you’re sitting down…..
As a Mom I’ll say that is a gesture of pure love. Amazing. The fireplace is beautiful, too. ❤️❤️

if you have enough distance between, you can hang it even on the ceiling... Bit higher than the rules said, isn't a problem
Or just let people mount their tv how they want
Absolutely beautiful!!! Blessings for you and your family🙏
Nice! I would have hung one of those tvs that can look like a framed painting though. That would have been pretty cool.
