      This comment is bang on some customers who will try and get anything for free he's gone for MDF to avoid paying plaster. At the same time, I'm trying to get it at the same price as the plaster board. Not to mention changing sizes. If any customer touches my tools, I'd ask them to leave the room. Your insurance wouldn't cover their injuries

    Wow, the customer changing his mind on the tv size is quite simply mind boggling. You would think this would be the very first thing he would have decided on! I would have said ok, no problem. You pull it all apart 😂

    I’m recently qualified from college myself and enjoy watching your videos! I think if you could ask you’re apprentice all the topics he needs to cover for his apprenticeship and then making detailed videos about them (obviously when/ if you ever cover the topics yourself), it would be really helpful to all other apprentice’s out there watching! Your vids are real easy to watch and not boring so keep it up mate

    You made good money for that job so I would invest some of it in a festool midi extractor. 90% of that mdf dust would be in the extractor. You won't regret it. Good job 👍

    Yo man, you did an amazing job... I also do custom work... I do have a few tips I'd like to share with you, but I don't want to come off as criticizing... Let me know if you'd like me to share... One thing I will say openly is never sell yourself short... Your work speaks for itself and you should be compensated for that... In my opinion, you're not just charging customers for the length of time it takes, but also for the quality of the work... I would've charged double of what you charged... Always take pictures of your work and show future customers if you aren't doing so already... Overall man, great job and ignore anyone that gives you negative feedback... Keep it going bro!

      @@Mrsquick Absolutely... and thank you for responding... we can always take something away, negative or positive, from what someone else does. Even though I've been doing this for a while, I'm also continuously learning!

    • @megangaze
      @megangaze 5 месяцев назад +2

      That’s full of rubbish he’s not selling himself short at all. I hope he doesn’t listen to you on that part. If customers see his price as reasonable that’s competition for you as someone in the industry NOT him. This is why so many British business close down and self employers are losing out on customers, because customers go to foreigners in favor of them due to the costs. Especially now that everything is hard. As a customer I will go where the price is reasonable, then make recommendations to all my friends/family etc which means in the long run he will win. Customers will be loyal to the business. Even with landscapers businesses, more and more people are moving away from hiring British individuals because of this very reason. No one wants to spend ridiculous amount of money on things they can live without so British individuals like you with businesses needs to wake up and study the way in which society is spending and on who. If you don’t adjust you will close down sooner or later like so many and that’s a fact. Also, More and more people are taking up DIY’s too for this very reason or going to foreign workers to get the jobs done at a reasonable cost. It doesn’t matter how well you think your work is, if the price is ridiculous you won’t have longevity.

      U charge customer double? Good luck finding customers then.

    • @mrjasonbarnes
      @mrjasonbarnes Месяц назад

      @megangaze192 1st of all, I'm not British... and 2nd, I'm simply telling the young man to understand his worth... if he feels that he's selling his services at a reasonable price, then good for him... I'm simply saying that as someone looking from the outside, and as good as a job he's done, he could charge a lot more for his quality of work... and I stand on what I said... if you as a customer want to go to someone else who will charge you a cheaper price... then understand you get what you pay for... I feel that it's unfair for him to put out this quality of work for pennies... you as a consumer are taking advantage of him... but again, if he feels that his prices are good for him... then I'm happy for him.
      Here, in the US, things are different... and I'm sure it's different in Canada... markets are different everywhere you go... but with that said, understand that you produce quality work and you should be compensated accordingly... you, as the builder, set your rates...

    Being self-employed comes with its challenges, and valuable lessons accompany the journey. Utilizing contracts with clients is essential. It not only sets clear expectations but also empowers you to charge appropriately for any deviations from the agreed terms. Keep up the excellent work🙌🏾💪🏾‼️

    Nice work my friend. Good to see the younger generation making a go of being self employed, as I know it’s not an easy decision to take when you have a young family. I’ve just recently retired after 50 years of being self employed and doing this sort of work. I have never advertised my services and my whole life’s work has been by recommendations and lots of repeat customers. Always strive to turn up on time, do a good job and always clean up after yourself, then you will thrive! Well done! 👍

    As a chippy myself for 36 years in the uk I think u did a good job for the money you asked. Built out of mdf is OK and better than plasterboard because it can be altered without the hassle of replastering. You could have glued the edges on the face so they don't open in future. Hope your apprentice has improved 👍

    • @deniztakimoglu3927
      @deniztakimoglu3927 6 месяцев назад

      When doing it with mdf how do you smooth out the edges where it meets the next piece so that it is seamless, my knowledge is limited on this stuff, but I guessing u know lol

    Beautiful work brother. My only critique would be to recess and hide the strip lights so that only the illumination from the light is visible, and not all the bulbs. Take a small piece of trim, cut out a small channel in it, place the strip light in it and place it somewhere in the shelf. Apart from that, carry on! -fellow contractor in the USA.

    £1200, that was my guess and I was bang on the money!... One of my first carpentry projects was a built in tv wall, way back in 2012. That was for a 42" TV. The aperture that I made for that size actually suits my 55" Sony Oled better as the screen now sits flush with only the bracket in the back. It looks like I've got a 5mm thick TV screen on my wall.

    Hey Bro i am going to do this. Thanks for your Knowledge. We have a bricked wall with a tile base and a tiled shelf. I can cover all that in wood. It will look amazing.

    Good job. But I believe the media wall should always be ready to accommodate a bigger TV at all times. For example, I now own a 55” TV. But I am going to build my media wall to cater for a 75” TV which I am planning to buy in a couple of years.. Apprentice video bombing was hilarious 😝

    The end results looks fab. Most of these media walls seem to use plasterboard, I'm interested to know why you/ your client used mdf over the plasterboard?
    Love the design.

    Hopefully that customer buys some diffuser for those leds as it’s obvious there’s hot spots a diffuser is easy to install aswell and will look better

    First i was like that cheap! Then i was like, wow that quick! So then back to the price and i was like wow spot on, 2 of those a week would be decent money, but very technical all day long everyday would be draining i bet. Great job. 👍👍
