Not to forget her supporting grimaces while he was working. ^^ But the work here in this video is very good. Looking good and I love the way he designed the shelves and how to mount them.

@@mantelmann13 In all fairness, she does a lot of working from home, so she can't just spend all of her time building stuff. She has also admitted numerous times that Grant is much more experienced with building, and that she is not as comfortable doing everything he does.
That being said, she still does some work of her own. Drawing lines, handing him tools, and giving him support is as good of a job as any other. She wouldn't be helping him if she didn't want to support him. Therefore, they are working together.

what I like most about this build is that all of it is made with equipment most people (who are renovating that is) actually have. Projects that are made with expensive giant woodworking machines may be nice too, but 'amateurs' like most of us are, neither have the money or space to do that. But this shows what you can achieve with 'normal' tools and a realistic budget.

📍 Nice DIY! 1st time viewer. Looks nice! Any post construction and 1 year later review/notes on changes for your viewers?
    Suggestions:
Cabinet lumber is better purchased at a local wood store. The big box places are typically construction grade wood. Also, MDF is prone to moisture/humidity issues.
LED channel could have been routed in at a bit deeper and at a ~20’ inward towards the wall to have less light glare towards the couch. Possibly individual shelf lighting control (rather than all shelves illuminated). Paint the channels black, too. I didn’t see the end width of the shelf, but perhaps a solid piece of lumber for the front 4 inches? (That router seems close to lessening the structural integrity. Maybe a biscuit and glue to assist in strength?
Floating shelves might have been good to have anchored metal braces from the wall into your shelves, but your load appears light… so, all good.
    Brilliant use of dyed concrete.
PVC pipe installed 1st (behind the walls and into the wallpaper layer wall) is great for feeding wires and changing wiring later. Easy with a fishing string, cotton balls, and a shop vac to pull the fishing line through, then tie in the new wire and pull. Can even leave a fishing line in there for the future. Don’t use monofilament (use threaded spider wire). Use this PVC method for new floor as well if you want to have power in the middle of the room (under a couch or side/coffee table). Works great for hiding speaker wires, too. Also great for outdoor wires to go underground (even if only an extension cord or speaker wire).

Awesome design and building skills. I see all the comments supporting positivity with this build. First step that was mentioned was planning which of course I agree with, but one factor is 98% of times ignored. Ergonomics of TV placement is almost never mentioned instead Design is the driving force that has everyone tripping out. In most cases TV’s are placed somewhat too high forcing people to strain their necks which in the long run discourages people from wanting to watch anything on that TV. I saw a video somewhere with the large TV in the kitchen was placed high above the Kitchen Island and the kid living there put a chair on top of the Island so he could comfortably play his Xbox games. My number one rule in planning is first sit down on the planned couch and temporarily place the TV according to the correct ergonomics of your neck, then plan the desired design.

Or just put rubber or cork on the bottom of the speakers. Personally I would get them 1/2 to 1 inch off the ground and they will sound much better.

Nice work. Not ro sure if you knew about or have used the counter sink wood bits. But they do wonders for setting wood screws/fasteners flush and clean to surfaces. Also, they help prevent splitting.
I was in a pinch once, and just picked up a Ryobi Countersink Set, AR2008G, 4pc, #6 #8 #10 #12, from homedepot once. Thinking I'd get a better set later. But honestly they have held up quite well and one of my favorite assembly tools to use. They also come with an adjustable depth drill bit for more accurate use, and also creating undersized pilot holes. Honestly making projects look better, be stronger and just better quality work.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Looks great.. just one suggestion on your shelf lights. Drop your front boards down what ever that defuser is an put led facing back wall. 2 reasons .. it will create a better shadow effect on the texture.. also when you sit down on couch looking up at tv the light is shining an taking away visibility of said tv . Little touches like that. Is what sets you up next level . As well as sub wolfer. Intergrade it in center of cabinet run . It would all flow . But do great work. Always learn something new everyday . From someone. Just put your own spin on it .

The project turned out amazing. 😎
I’ve never had much luck with those adhesive backed led strips. It’s always just a matter of time before the adhesive gives up and they start falling off. 😒

The result of this project actually came out pretty good! I ve been working as a carpenter in the past and had similar projects to deal with.
There will always be some issues appearing that no one thought about prior to the execution, however certain things could have made your life
    way easier.
Planing phase should have showed you that its way easier to paint the boards on the floor before mounting them.
The side blends you installed at the floating board could have been mounted with magnets, so that the extra space can be used to hide electrics like the power supply at 25:31 .
If you keep some space to the sides you can literally do the same thing with covers over the whole hight.
That way you have some extra space to install wires over the coming years for things you might add.
The LED you installed in your shelves looks good, however it would have been standard to install them at the top back. that way the give indirect light to the wall +
light up everything you put on these shelves from behind. (exception would be the lowest board which can be done top and bottom to a more even light effect)
Pro argument: it will be easier on the eyes when it comes to late night watch sessions.
All in all very solid! looks pretty good!

That 77” looks so small, mainly due to the room being so huge and the couch is far from it. You’re gonna need something bigger.

Looks good. I have the same cabinets in my living room. Only thing I’d be worried about is the drywall anchors to mount the track. Mine are into the studs. I hadn’t thought to put a countertop on mine but might opt to go that route!

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  10 месяцев назад

Thanks! All the brackets have 2 GRK fasteners going into studs. We added 2 additional drywall anchors just to be safe but they are not necessary

Super cool, I have imagined stuff like this but to see someone make this type of room come to life is amazing. Now please make it so the speakers are flush with the edge of the furniture and angle the center speaker up slightly, for the sound quality 😇

There was no point. If I ever take these cabinets down (probably won’t for many years), I will take the drywall out with them and replace it then.

Putting a lot of trust in these screw in drywall anchors. These are really more meant for hanging a picture frame long term and pretty much lack any anchoring force in the direction away from the wall. End result looks awesome though!

Scribing the countertop would have been such a pain in the ass. I'm so glad that you did the "easy" (smart) way and removed the drywall. That is NOT a cop out, you did the right move. Anyone who says otherwise is a try-hard and values their achievements over their time on this earth.
